      I might be an exception then. When I bought the NAD T758 V3 back in 2018, I bought it partly for DIRAC though I had no previous hifi- or home-theater knowledge. It was just what I read was the best, and it's turned out to be true. A bit of a steep learning curve to be sure, but they have definitely been rectifying that over the past few years.

    Dirac is awesome. I have it at home (in a dedicated + treated space) and it does a great job. To hear how much improvement it makes in an open space with no treatments makes me feel like upgrading my living room setup now. Great video. And that little micro sub is working wonders for its size.

    Without DIRAC the system sounds nice and gives you a sense of what the stereo can do. A little dry and boxy though. DIRAC gives you the fullness, presence, and great sound field defenition. Almost like what a compressor would do . I like the effect of the DIRAC.

    Wait. "Go into the AVR and have everything set properly". Not sure about the preliminary receiver settings. I set distances, dbl to 74 on each speaker, set my low cut-offs of each speaker and then zero my bass and treble knobs. I hope I am doing this correctly using Android and RZ50. I'm new to this.

    I notice you're using your mic on a tripod, which is what I tend to do.
    But in Dirac's own demonstration video, they just stick a puck mic like that on the sofa seat...
    That seems like a big difference, and especially the way Dirac demos the measurements, it seems like it works be well below the tweeter, which is generally a bad place to measure (from what I've heard and read).

  • @keithiegee1
    @keithiegee1 2 года назад

    The vertical sliding bars are new where you design the target curves. Would you say they’re better than the traditional breakouts points? Is the idea that you keep them just inside the speakers natural response?

    Can you comment on the heco auroras? Think they could compete with Polk reference line?

    • @joentell
      @joentell  2 года назад +1

      I haven't heard the Polk Reference floorstanders, but I'm impressed with both. Maybe the Polk R600's I've reviewed are more neutral but picky about where the tweeter is aimed. These are more forgiving and have a wider sweet spot. Bass is kinda nutty with the Heco in this room. It somehow just works well in this particular room, even though I wasn't blown away with the measurements. Sometimes, some speakers just work better than others in certain rooms (especially when it comes to bass.)

      Yes that’s within my budget, just wasn’t looking for an AVR with that many channels of processing. Would prefer something smaller and easier to operate since my wife and kids would interact with it the most.
      - Bluesound Powernode
      - Sonos AMP
      - SVS Soundbase Pro (when it comes out)
      These are my top choices before wanting room correction. Is there a Dirac option that you would recommend along these lines?
      At this point I think a Sonos ARC & Sub with TruePlay will be the best compromise.
      Thanks again 👍🏼

    • @joentell
      @joentell  2 года назад

      @@H2OFSU The Denon isn't very complicated. They have 4 quick settings that can set the source and input volume. Because the volume and menu shows on-screen, it's easier from a user experience standpoint. The least expensive 2-channel Dirac all-in-one is probably that NAD M10, but that's up there in price.
      I've reviewed the Sonos products and while I was impressed with their app and ease of use, I still think you'll get a better audio experience with an amp and passive speaker combo, especially if you add a good sub. The Sonos sub didn't impress me. It was too much boomy bass, and the adjustments weren't fine enough to get it dialed in.
