I think 'kiddiestare' is based on 'minipops".
Minipops was a short-lived ch.4 show were toddlers were dressed up and sang songs like famous pop stars.
People innocently thought it was cute. Until they realised that a show where getting a 4 year old dressed as Madonna to sing 'like a virgin' may have an altogether different audience...

It definitely is based on Minipops.

Chris Morris and Armando Iannucci are geniuses. Nearly 30 years on this is still hilarious, and relevant. I think TV news producers think this is a documentary.

One of the most perfect comedy series ever, up there with Fawlty Towers and The Office (original version, obvs). Still great after over 30 years.

As youve started the Alan Partridge TV journey at the very beginning I suggest do Knowing Me, Knowing You next so you can witness the evolution of the character.

That first 'in-house' interview, with the jam festival... Really did test and change my idea of comedy as it's just so unnecessary and brutal. I wasn't sure if it was a joke, so well acted. I couldn't tell if the interviewee was real or pretending, because their reaction seemed so genuine, as someone would if confronted in this way over a charity drive. Certainly rule breaking and ahead of its time. Not sure anyone's caught up with it in the same way just yet...

The reason the graphics are so great is that they were made by a real news graphics studio. Also it is worth watching the credits to the end (both end, and as part of a scene), as there are some funky (quite literally) easter eggs.
    News, from telly to belly!

Love this show. There's a show similar to this kind of comedy called 'TV Offal', that has bits just as brutal as that scene with the jam lady haha They have full episodes on RUclips.

Steven Hawkins was a legend for doing the intros "TV offal, where quadriplegia is a suitable subject for light entertainment" he looks so happy :)

he seemed to have a great sense of humour.
By the way I just noticed that the TV offal pilot episode has that piss take of Noel Edmonds and the dirty Rainbow clip. Would be a great episode for Noah to react to.

Good reaction - unfortunately the historical shows segment are scarily close to real shows. The Steve Coogan being fellated was a spoof of a 60’s show when someone took LSD on camera. Kiddystare was a parody of short lived Channel 4 show Minipops and Them Next Door was a spoof of Love Thy Neighbour. I don’t remember there being a live hanging though!

      Details no-one's mentioned yet -
      * That whole Attitudes Night segment is a parody of the TV Hell/TV Heaven themed nights that BBC 2 ran in the early '90s. TV Hell saw the first ever airing of that clip of Chris Mayhew tripping - he wasn't on LSD though, he was on mescaline. I've been quoting Mayhew's "...your space and time" and "...what now is" outbursts for decades.
      * Some of us always stifle a giggle when Alan, in his intro, uses the word "sport" in the Samuel-Pepysian sense

So many quotable lines in this. To this day my best friend and I sometimes say goodbye by saying 'Ta-ra, ya shitter!'
By the way the 'It's Your Blood' section was parodying '999', a show that reconstructed life saving emergency service rescues involving the public. Except with fewer old women on poles.
