I watched my life slowly fall apart as the reality of my celebrity life style finally came crashing down.
MATT DAMON?
this is why we took your phone away Matt Damon
matt damon no
Surprise it’s Matt Damon
@Ryan Akwar It seemed like a really good idea at the time, ok? I mean “manchester by the sea”? Really??? Sounded extremely boring.
Beyond that, I generally pick roles that either I feel can challenge me, or will involve cast and crew members that I have enjoyed working with in the past (i.e. not Casey). I have been to masses of water several times, and have fought aliens in China significantly less times.
Finally, Casey’s Chinese ponytail phase was lame and misinformed, much like the man himself. Did you see my haircut in The Great Wall? I looked fabulous.
Karsten, you always ask how our day is going so... Karsten, how's your day going?
KAKAKAKAKAKAK this is wonderful! PRANK! IT is terrible! I looked in the mirror and saw something UNPRETTY: my face. KAKAKAKAKAKA! But I am happy agayn because I have TWO HOT GIRLFRIENDS and I use them to get vi*ws on my hilarious v*deos! KAKAKAKAK!!! Good day, dear juli

i’m doing well thanks for asking!
This is the only way I keep track of the time of year
Bo Burnham inside is literally existential crisis the musical
and I love it.
Imo it was insufferably corny
Can i ask for an example why its corny? Not tryin to be aggressive but curious cos karsten said it too but i cant really see it
@@bababooey6640 dunno, the edgy millenial-style irony packed into musical numbers is so 2010s. Also all the social commentary feels like it was taken straight out of TicTok
@@scumoftheearth741 i feel the same way. i normally like bo burnham but this one wasn't a favorite of mine, it could barely keep my attention and rarely got a chuckle out of me
Bo Burnams “comedy special” made me acknowledge my depression
I started therapy about 2 months ago, but the first time I've cried in front of my therapist was when I was explaining how Bo's special made me cry.
For me it was so depressing I turned it off
It’s an existential claustrophobic horror/musical with comedy on the side
Looking forward to your 10 second interview. You’re an interesting guy. Excited to learn more about you 🤝
I feel like we’re the same person bruh lmao I see u in every comment section. Keep up the good work too.

So… the things is.
I really give Karsten 5 dollars every month to hear him rip apart some of my favorite films. This month it was Cruella.
😭😭😭😭❤️
Ikr I loved that movie
not disney trying to make a predictable, story of an antagonist making a sob story that romanticizes a villain thinking it would be like maleficent
@@supersucks she's still evil just no that much like the original movie because she's younger. I liked it 🥺
I watched Fight Club for the first time. So good
surprise me
Don't talk about it
Y'know arthouse movies have never been for me, but listening to people who love them talk about why they love them genuinely makes me smile
I love "Naked". It's such a weird movie without much of a plot that just follows a weird cynical, but very smart character without purpose in life wondering through London and having weird conversations about life
Had two great big screen experiences in June: In the Heights with the busiest audience I've been in since lockdown in the biggest screen, and Fargo, one of my top five movies of all time!
@@npcimknot958 why do you gotta be so damn rude?
Had a great experience with ITH too. Not the busiest audience BUT a group of people sitting next to me must’ve been Lin-Manuel Miranda’s fans & reacted (respectfully) to every Hamilton references and cameos. I missed those kind of experiences!
i love you karsten
I watched inside on June 1st. A couple of weeks later i rewatched make happy. And then i finished the second season of twin peaks. I think my soul if somehow on fire
Heat is always somewhere between #1 and #3 on my all time favorites. It's such a good film, and despite its solid following it's still SO underrated. It blows my mind that it was so completely overlooked by the Oscars that year with the star power and quality at play. And the score! I was a fan of Elliot Goldenthal for his work on FF: Spirits Within (low key a huge fan on that one) and his collision with Brian Eno on the Heat score is just unbelievably good. I love how the music peaks when De Niro's character makes that doomed decision near the end to get revenge instead of running away with the girl. I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it.
I'm also glad you're getting into Gregg Araki. Mysterious Skin is another all time favorite for me and I really love the vibe of his older films.
Still no local hero? It’s a perfect movie.
This is random but I love how you appeared on Ruff Criminal’s channel!

@@jackschindler1769 I ordered a hard physical copy online, after months of not being able to find it anywhere else myself. It was well worth tracking down, it’s easily become one of my new favourite movies. You can find the standalone on dvd or alternatively, I believe it’s also part of the Vengeance trilogy on blu-ray (which I only found out about after I had already ordered the former).
@@jackschindler1769 it’s on prime video
Only as my opinion, Scanners is the best psychics movie I've ever seen. It mixes scientific realism with paranormal horror in just a flawless way (As all Cronenberg movies tend to do). I would give it at least an 8/10.
Love you Karsten, you make me feel better about me and the world and just make my day with every video.
i think you’d really love come and see - i know it’s on your watchlist but i watched it this month and thought afterwards that it seemed like the type of movie you would love. i’d highly suggest biting the bullet and checking it out sooner rather than later!! it’s such an important film and one that i feel like everyone should see at least once in their lives.
“This is Bo’s magnus opus”
Make Happy would like to have a word with you
So painful every month I go through these films and find out none of them are available to watch
i live for these videos every month
Can't wait for the interview
The Apartment IS perfect. So glad you watched it!
I need to rewatch Bo Burnham’s Inside, still loved it a lot but to have a deeper analysis of it would be great for me.
It gets even darker, but the filmmaking behind it shines brighter on a rewatch
What Ben said!! But also!! The music is so fun to sing along to once you know it. It only gets better IMO
I also watched Pink Flamingos for the first time this past month and loved it, so much passion to it
So happy to see you give heat the praise it deserves!!!
Was waiting so long for your inside review
I really loved Inside, still put the album on loop sometimes
Soooo glad you watched Nowhere, absolutely love that movie
Cinema Paradiso is one of my all time favs, happy you saw it in theaters
You’re making me wanna revisit PlayTime. Didn’t hit for me the first time.
Same here, definitely need to give it another watch and checkout some of his other films
karsten coming thru with the gems again les gooooo
I binged game of thrones and regretted the ending so much
I love the theme of Karsten watching Climax once a month
I’ve been looking forward to this
I also rewatched IT this june!
I watched Starsky & Hutch. That movie shouldn’t work, but it does.
Omg yes, saw it while browsing Netflix and it has a weird charm about it. Kinda loved it tbf
I suggest the movie Mystic River. It’s a great story and shows how friendships change and how life can take people on different paths from childhood moments that may be good or bad. I truly loved it.
If you like The Apartment you NEED to watch "Some like it hot' which is such a perfect comedy
It's also the movie that became the biggest Oscar Snub. Seriously, why didn't the great Marylin Monroe get an Oscar nomination/win? And why didn't it Win Best Picture or Best Actor for Jack Lemmon? I know Ben-Hur is a classic and Charlton Heston gave an amazing performance, but they couldn't at least make a tie, or maybe release the film at a time where it can win?
That cake metaphor for umbrellas of cherbourg is so true
i watched nowhere a couple weeks ago, its such a good movie and the soundtrack is amazing
Pink Flamingos is one of my favorites!. So nasty yet so fun !. John Waters just has this uniqe vibe to his films ❤.

I also watched cinema paradiso and cried, which is pretty rare despite how many movies I’ve seen. And I rewatched It chapter 1 (& 2) and gives my such a sense of childhood nostalgia, not just 80s nostalgia in the way Stranger things can be over handed at times. I gotta say, Pink Panther with Steve Martin is severely underrated, however I cant say I can compare it to the original pink panther films as I have yet to see them. And The Apartment!! Yes! I’m not sure I would call it perfect, but I was completely caught off guard by how amazing it was
I'd recommend watching/rewatching "whos afraid of Virginia wolf". I'd love to see what you have to say about it.
Nichols man, such a crazy good film
I have been saying this about pink panther for a while now. It’s just a fun film
“Big guns make loud noises and that’s cool to me” me too Karsten me too
Great video bro
I love Mike Leigh’s Naked. After watching it a couple times I believe it’s a modern day interpretation of the Greek philosopher Diogenes
Inside is my favourite film of this year so far.
It's gonna take a really great movie to beat it.
gotta love the criterion channel!
Great Watch!
I'm a big fan of Jacques Tati and I love his film Playtime (1967) although my favourite film from him would have to be M. Hulot's Holiday (1953). I'm a big fan of the Peter Sellers Pink Panther films and I've seen bits of the Steve Martin ones and they look awful but I do usually like Steve Martin. Pink Flamingos looks atrocious! Not sure if I'll watch the new Cruella because I'm really not a fan of these recent Disney remakes. The last one I watched was Dumbo which is mh least favourite of the Disney remakes.
9:50 Heat is my favourite film of all time. Michael Mann made a classic and a masterpiece back in 1995. DeNiro and Pacino are brilliant.
Damn. Hearing Karsten call Clerks only fine hurt.
Glad to see love for Nowhere 💜
I wonder what were your thoughts on Jacques Demy's 1970 Donkey Skin? Growing up it was and is still is one of my top films. From the sets, to the music and costumes it made my little French heart flutter with joy! I am aware that a part of my love and adoration for this film may be because of my nostalgia but I wonder if you have seen it and what your thoughts on it were
I'm excited to hear your thoughts on The Young Girls of Rochefort
So when are we getting the Agnès Varda marathon after the Demy one? :)
I was just gonna comment this!
nowhere is one of the weirdest and best movie experiences i've ever had
Comparing In the Heights to an Old Navy commercial is the best thing I’ve heard all day
have you watched "but i'm a cheerleader" its a really good lgbtq+ movie with natasha lyonne as the lead it is my favorite movie of all time
yeah he's watched it, it's logged on his letterboxd and he gave it four stars
Paris Texas and Sixth Sense were my favorite movies I watched in June 2021

You should watch "Das Boot", since its 6 part series (which is just the movie with some extra scenes) just came to Netflix! In my opinion its maybe the best war movie of all time. No other movie has ever made me this anxious and sad, and actually gave me a "real" feel of what it must have been like to fight in a war that you knew was lost, basically knowing that you are giving your life for nothing. Also the music, you are not gonna get the main theme out of your head for the next week...
You have to watch Young Girls of Rochefort next!!
in june, i watched luca. from a more objective and critical standpoint, it had a few flaws, (like how it felt like it resolved to quickly, it set up what seemed to be plot points with no elaboration, we didnt get to see more of the underwater world, etc) so compared to other pixar films it's a bit average. (compared to the average animated film, though, its way way above average. such is pixar). so if im thinking without bias, i'd give it an 8.5 or 9/10. however, this movie felt deeply personal to me, almost as if the directors cracked open my brain and wrote a movie about what they saw- which makes it my favorite movie. so with that bias in mind, i'd give it a 10/10, as high as it can go.
As I noticed you're discovering European cinema (old and not so old), I'm going to give you a suggestion: watch Nanni Moretti's "Dear Diary". If you like it, next time I will give you another suggestion. Cheers!
In June I watched:
Red White and Blue
500 Days of Summer
The Master
Penguins of Madagascar (the 2015 movie)
Stand By Me
At Eternity's Gate
Lover's Rock
Palm Springs
About Time
Superbad
Climax
Definitely, Maybe
If you enjoyed and were intrigued by Pink Flamingos, I highly recommend Female Trouble. It serves as the second film in John Waters unofficial “trash trilogy” that consists of Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble and Desperate Living. Pink Flamingos is iconic but Female Trouble is basically Divine’s film through & through. It still maintains the filth, shock and style of early John Waters but has more genuine hilarity and charm than Pink Flamingos IMO.
