Lessons I've learned and wish to share:
    1. The secret to weight loss is simple: eat less, eat the right foods, move more. I lost 25 pounds and have maintained the loss for 5 years.
    2. The past is nothing more than carefully edited nostalgia because not all memories are true or even ever happened. Example: I have/had a memory of my best friend coming out to me. It's clear as bell and I could even draw a picture if asked. Problem: IT NEVER HAPPENED THAT WAY!
    3. You can't and shouldn't be happy every single moment. Hope and strive for contentment and when happiness hit, put it in memory (keep it real and don't idealize it).
4.Shit happens. Deal with it and don't dwell on it. It's now in the past and unless you have a time machine you can't go back and change a thing.
    5. When feeing overwhelmed, take a walk.
    6. Meditate / practices mindfulness whatever everyday. Keeps you from going fucking crazy.
    7. There is no shame in seeking professional help. It may be your road to sanity.
    Thank you.

  • @chrisgoodship2940
    @chrisgoodship2940 2 года назад +16

    WHY?
    1) Historically successful people do it.
    2) Helps you to stop looking for answers and listen to yourself
    3) You can use your journal to coach yourself
    WHAT?
    1) Not a diary, not complete sentences, not neat
    2) Journal from inspiration not obligation
    HOW?
    1) Use a blank sketchbook
    2) Save the first page for top 1% of lessons learnt
    3) Write in big font in front cover the number of days left till you're 90
    4) In the back cover write your goals for the year in 3 categories (work, rest & play) - Should be quantifiable
    5) 6&1 Journaling Method - divide pages into 6 sections in your life (20 pages or so for each) e.g. business ideas, business ideas...

    My six sections are
    • Daily (basically diary summaries)
    • Freedom (brain dump)
    • Things I've learned (from podcasts, RUclips, social media, school, etc)

    • Mental health reflection

"I don't want it to be neat, I want it to be effective." This really made sense to me, I guess that's the factor that's keeping me from having half-filled journals, because I don't wanna write in it anymore if I'm not "in the zone" to make my writing neat and pretty.

Really love journaling and have always had a time at find one that was all encompassing. I like a (1) daily schedule with priorities and daily/weekly goals, so that would be a section, (2) book review section, (3) meditation insights section, (4) business brain storming, (5) food journal (water intake, meal planning and meal prep), exercise log with workouts, body measurements, etc.; (6) finance section for tracking spending, budget, financial plan and money goals.

My blank book came in today and im excited to build my year.
Going to sound funny, but in a way you've given permission to Not be OCD in the journal; just be organized and let it flow.

I am grateful for this video. I’ve always had a diary/journal since I was like 12. Usually my journals last like 5 years since I only journal when I have a crisis (usually an emotional/mental health/depression/anxiety situation) but 2020 made me realize that maybe I should be more consistent with my journaling and use it as a way to stay balanced and productive. This video gave me lots of ideas. So thanks for that.

    My 6 sections will be:
    1) travel: a record of places I want to go and places I visited during the year.
    2) education: right now I’m studying my masters so I’d mostly write about that, but I also like to practice my Italian and would probably come up with ideas on how to practice it more or record how it’s developing, hopefully will begin with French, I’m learning hand-lettering and calligraphy, among many other things.
    3) health: this is mostly for mental health issues or situations; physical health might also be included.
    4) financial independence: planning for retirement, keeping up with my savings, planning big purchases, etc.
    5) love & relationships: I’ll write about friends and lovers and everything that I experience in these relationships.
    6) memories: I’m very forgetful so I’ll record here important events or situations in my life that I wanna keep.

I was searching for Jim Kwik's how to write a journal and landed on your 2015 recording then watched the two more thereafter. This is the fourth one. It is becoming well baked method on the journaling as a tool for being effective in life. Thanks for sharing your experience and details of why, what and how. I used to write down ideas, and hard issues, track my work and action items, then shifted to use Excel to keep track of things in one spot electronically. You have a very nice method. Great job in showing value in writing and documenting by hand.

The greatest period of change came when I moved to a new country and started blogging about my life. Then I stopped after a few months, perhaps content. I find it difficult to start blogging again because of the need to have all my ideas aligned and the lack of "proper setup" when backpacking. I think journaling is my answer to WRITING MORE. I'm going to get a notebook TODAY!

Clark is right on, listening to yourself is key to success. I have worked with many people who want to make journaling part of their habits and daily routines, yet they struggle with getting started and making it a habit. If that is you, my best tip to you all is to start small, maybe once or twice per week in the beginning, and eventually roll out to doing it daily. It's a fantastic tool for being the best you can be!

Every year the company I work for wants me to set productivity goals. I hate doing it! But I set the goals anyway and turn them in and never look at them again. Trying to stick to a daily list becomes very frustrating because the first time something urgent happens that thwarts the routine it is almost impossible to get back to a rigid plan that really doesn't allow for flexibility. I am excited about this method of journaling where I can keep a record of the past and set goals for the future in one place. Thank you very much!

Hi I’m new and I’ve been journaling since I was 14 and now I’m 28 I keep all of my journals but I love your method as well. I’m happy I came across your channel lol! Love how you explained it, hopefully my boyfriend would watch you and start journaling because I think 💭 it grows your mental health physically mentally- Also I really love the freedom page & family page , I’m thinking about starting this as soon as my current journal is done!!!

Stumbled on this channel by chance and am really glad I did. Definitely going to follow for me things.
Another thing; I never knew Sectioning your journal is a thing. I have been doing that for almost 5 years now 😂. I did it on a whim because i tend to be overly organized with things. My secontions are: Daily, Spirituality, Art, Books, Studies and Writing. They definitely help to have a section for everything and it's more organized as well.
    Thank you for this video!

Life time count down. I did that to count down 10 years to retirment, removing sick, vacation and holidays. I made it a key metric for the last year. It was a surprise to see how fast the numbers were going down in the final year to retiremnet, and it was inspriational. It’s a great idea and even better when you plan for actual, reachable and personal target dates.

    My segments would probably be:
    1. Self-Taught (autodidact)
    2. Interpersonal
    3. Linguistic (Neuro-Linguistic programming)
    4. Psychodynamically (psychology)
    5. Personal Growth and Health
    6. Affirmations and long-term (life) goals
Something along those categories I would be journaling about.💫

Thanks for sharing your journaling technique. I found your video in early 2021 and started journaling this way. I mentioned it today in my video to kick of 2022 and included the link to your video in the description. I'll also be giving you a shoutout in my podcast. I've really appreciated the content you share on your channel. Thank you.

You just gained a New Subscriber. I too love blank journals, however never knew what to do with my older journals. Why I never thought to just move on to a new book for a new year. I also liked that you stated to get the same looking journals. I didn't do that and now it is harder to keep them organized neatly because they are all different sizes. Going to keep getting more of the sketch books. Thanks for the tips. I write down quotes, sayings, etc.. never thought about them being a "journal" book too. You made me get excited about journaling again.
    😊🙏

My sections .. but I will try to rework how much to put in each section for the next journal; because some sections are bigger than others.
    1. Manage me: with financials, home mgt, plans for impovement, health and fitness..
    2. Friends, family and connections: stories, event planning, cooking and our shared hobbies. Teaching.
    3. Creative me: art and writing, arts ideation, also any new creative hobbies. Art shows.
    4. Develop me: learning new things, improving tech skills, learning things that improve me and are outside of creative me.
    5. Entertain: travel, gaming, the ‘fun just for fun’ stuff.
Also I color code these. In my master index at the front, color dots in front of each page or spread, usually 1 color but sometimes 2 or 3. More than that is very rare.

Hey, really nice list! Kinda stole some of your ideas, since I thought that they were real good. I wanted to check with you, on how often do you write to your journal? Is it like a daily or more of a weekly thing?
