    LOL - I’m pretty sure the footage of Bubba swinging is from The Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands. I used to live in one of those houses on the first fairway (but the video is on the back 9 - probably hole 13)…
    Anyway, great video and thanks for posting!

    Great tips. When I do it, I have to be careful to careful to start « falling » to my left side, rather than forcefully pushing toward the left. If I actively push towards the left I over do it and its hard to trigger the rotation as there is too much momentum of my whole body towards the target. If I stay patient with it and feel that I just start to fall on my left side, then once I feel my left heel firmly planted with my left knee flexed forward, the club is in the slot and I can push with both legs very hard to rotate. A great benefit of that is that I can totally ignore my upper body, my arms and wrists: they all just follow and release naturally. My brain plays tricks on me though. When I swing correctly, I have the feeling that the club head is very slow initially and that the ball will not go anywhere as well as the sensation that the club will miss the ball. The reality is that the club zips through the ball so much faster that my right right hand has a hard time to stay on the grip. My brain still has a hard time trusting that the correct moves that feel effortless will generate more power. This catches up with me over water. Hole number 4 at my club is a 154 yards par 3 with a huge pond that extends from 10 yards forward of the tee box to 6 yards in front of the green. I use a 6 iron , which usually carries between 152-162 with a good swing, and I still send it in the water (often topping it) 1/3 of the time, as on those occasions I cannot prevent myself from wanting to muscle it over the obstacle. When it is windy, I kind of expect to leave it in the drink and I just make a smooth swing, and on those times I always carry it at least to the middle of the green. When I use a 5 iron, I still top it in the water 1/3 of the time, but when I swing it correctly , I always overshoot the green completely. Another thing is that I often have better golf shots with bare lies, slopes , ball above my feet or below my feet. In those circumstances, I have no expectations for a good result and I just swing smoothly, not caring where the ball ends up, with often surprisningly good results. I think there are more psychological limitations to my golf my golf game than physical limitation

    Hi Russell. I did this drill for the first time today I had a few duff hits but I was chuffed with the ones I nutted 10 yards further 💪🏻😃. I then went out to play a round with my mates and WoW I struck the ball so much better. Thank you so much. Awesome.

    Very good. I really needed to understand how to shift but keep rotating. I also wanted to use the ground on the lead side. Thanks!

      You tube has Ben Hogan practice swing compilation where he does a little step drill with his right foot on the backswing followed by a small step drill on the fore swing. It's pretty neat!

    For as long as I can remember I've been a "sweeper" more than a "squeezer", which is all well and good with my fairway metals but I think its holding me back when it comes to irons. I tend to finish my swing walking backwards. I think this drill will be my target over the coming "off season". Thanks Russell.

    Russell, I’ve only recently started to follow you- I’m greatly impressed! On the suggestion portion from me- try to find a sound system which greatly reduces the background noise- the road noise is distracting. The best to you, and thank for your teaching tips.(Opps, just read Bill Westphal's comments. Sorry for the repeat.)

    Really helps! I’ve had this issue too! The other issue I had was too much grip pressure. I’ve found that with the weight transfer the light grip pressure really helped me pop through the ball.

    I will really need to work at this to get the correct sequence. My natural feeling is to want to rush the downswing and therefore not get back far enough but I can sense the momentum change.........a great video and for me one of the most critical aspects of the swing...Thank you.

    I really like the front foot being fanned out a bit because it helps the weight transfer as you say, as well as, it helps create a bit of torque between the hips and shoulders in the backswing creating more power without trying too much. Great tips - easy to understand and apply. Thanks.

    I can get back to the top ok with my trail leg rotation....and shoulder turn however I still have a problem getting the feel to transfer my weight to my lead leg and keep my myself in posture....I can’t seem to feel anything but a feeling of confusion and guesswork....to get to my lead side for my release and fight to not go back to my old swing where I feel more comfortable....I guess it’s just more practice and drills...

      You may need to experiment with a feeling of falling in transition I’ll be discussing this again soon

  • @williamreichert4798
    @williamreichert4798 2 года назад

    The most important concept in weight transfer is to start the weight shift as soon as the clubhead changes direction from going away from the target. and towards the target towards end of the backswing. If you wait to shift the weight at the end of the backswing the clubhead will be moving away from the target in the early downswing and this will be a force hindering your weight shift towards the target in the downswing.All good golfers do this. and all bad golfers dont. It is all about the momentum that the clubhead creates in the backswing.If you dont get this timing right , nothing else will. help you.

    Is the feeling in transition a tensing of lead glute and pressure down on lead heel?

  • @ko9306
    @ko9306 4 года назад

    I guess I am having a problem with what pressure should I feel in the transfer in my foot...leg...thigh etc...as the controlling muscles or is it the momentum drives the feel?

    Russell would you be able to label your videos by category, lesson # and date please? Being left handed at golf/cricket BUT right hand for all racquet sports writing and throwing I cannot develop the proper release motions in my left hand and arm. I watched a video of yours last evening (20/2) which showed downswing, keeping your right elbow into right hip and moving your right shoulder down allowing the lead hip to clear, and keeping club on plane into/through the ball. If able to develop this movement it should arrest my ever increasing lateral slide. I think your video contained swings of various PGA pros including DJ as examples. I cant find it, can you assist please?

      Yes, although due to the tilted nature of the driver you may feel more weight on the right toe

  • @demystifiedgolf1856

    Weight shift can't be done purposefully which is why it's a horrible concept that infects so many players. If anything trying NOT to transfer your weight is what you should be doing in order for it to happen naturally. Most importantly is learning to avoid slack in the swing arc. If you take the club back and move that direction you've created slack in the swing arc. That slack will create a snap or tug when it catches up, if it ever does. A taut swing arc has no slack which allows you to swing the club smoothly through the ball without a hitch or snap. I hate the idea of weight shift. So many people get this so wrong and I was one of them early on. Moving a windmill or bike wheel 3 or 4" forward as it's spinning won't make it spin faster. Hitting the ball well with a reasonable swing speed will make the ball go farther and straighter than a super-fast, wild out of control swing.
