I work for foodstuffs and you are completely correct. It is up to each franchise owner what they stock. However you are able to request products that they don't stock. I know our local Pak'n'Save has a book you can write in to request things. If your supermarket doesn't have one, talk to the manager\owner and I'm sure they'll help if they are able.
Love your videos, I am kiwi born and you guys make me proud to be one :)

Writing stuff in the book or sending emails does nothing at my Provincial Pak n Save! The boss there knows better 🙄
To do your shopping, you have to go to *three* supermarkets because there is no *one* supermarket that has everything! 🤣

@@TheScratchingKiwi thanks for that info. I'm sorry your local PNS isn't helpful. My local is pretty good with it but I would guess that again comes down to where you live and who owns it. I write the software for our Four Squares so don't have much contact with the bigger stores anymore and maybe my advice is out of date. Apologies if I'm incorrect.

I grew up in Northland. What bollocks that you don't need heating! All we had in our house was a single bar heater, and it was kept in the parent's room. We got very little sleep in winter because we were shivering cold all night. In the mornings on the way to school, us kids would play with breaking the ice on top of the puddles, and would scrape up the 1cm thick frost to make "snowballs". In the day, at school, the heat was turned off at 9am and we could see our breath in the classroom, and my white fingers were so cold they couldn't hold a pen.
That's the _sub_ tropical part of Aotearoa. The climate ranges from subtropical to sub-Antarctic. And all parts bloody well need heating everywhere in winter!

    Ha ha L&B,
the trucking of goods to Taranaki & Gisborne always costs more, fuel and distance because of 'centralisation' since the 1980's.
Auckland to Wellington is the main highway. Any places in these areas have better access, and costs accordingly. But New Plymouth & Gisborne costs for everything that are trucked are according to the distance away from what kiwis call 'the main drag'. Same as for here. Fuel and essential costs are always more on the coast here in the Buller and west coast areas compared to main cities like Nelson and Christchurch. The costs rise accordingly.
    Cost of haulage 'they' say.

The prices and availability of food is always different in each town in the US. A small town will have less availability and higher prices. It’s always cheaper to drive 30 minutes to the nearest decent town to get better prices. Isn’t England the same way

Yeah, Wellington has alot of one-way roads and such, and if you're not used to it can be a pain to drive on. Like driving in Auckland if you're not used to it.
And I imagine the price difference and selection for the Super markets will be because of some (not alot) actual competition in the larger market as Wellington is bigger, so they have to try keep prices lower to get people to buy there. Still, some super market prices are getting a little out of control, as we're now paying twice what we did last year for a bag of Frozen peas, and that is in Wellington.

Nark on any difference between a foodies franchise in Taranaki versus Wellington. Since covid, the average store has changed prices to suit profit. Although, foodies demand same pricing in all stores when on special and when off special. eg Pak save's, New worlds, 4 Squares. So all pak saves should provide the same pricing when advertised on special or when not on special, unless it's an instore special. Their delivery schedule allows for cost savings from their main depots. But unfortunately, how ever many thousands of extra people live in Wellington will demand extra variety versus a smaller town. If you had the same amount of people living in Taranaki versus Wellington and they could purchase as many different varieties of foods on a REGULAR basis - you may get that in Taranaki. If not, too much wastage - so no more stocking of those products. Simple. If you ask for a specific item - yes they could get it for you but they may require you buy the whole carton if no one else buys it. If you use 1 box per month and the carton holds 12 boxes. You may not chose to buy a whole carton. Same process for a super market. Price variations on some casual products eg Dinner candles. Some stores may not have them sold very often - so, they maybe left at an older price to get rid of them knowing there profit will still be the same from when they 1st purchased it. When sold, they wont rebuy unless sales prove its worth keeping. Funny but unsettling, you will never know why some people take offence to you and your vehicle. The other driver may have had an experience during the day which has given them a short wick. Short wicks will be set off at any time and during any daily task. eg driving etc etc. Just try to be aware of all signs and road directions or speed lanes or indicating time frames(longer v quick and go) in a city that may have changes often. Incase you do miss something. Oh, and don't be bothered until they follow you home - most people will honk etc etc then go on their swearing merry way. lol. Stay safe.
