Life is totally a journey. Glad you came here though. I always admire anyone who leaves the comfort of their birth country to start somewhere else. Very interesting stories. thanks for sharing.
I’m a Kiwi sitting inside in Reading on an overcast day, binging your podcasts. Been in the UK 3 years for work and still can’t get over that people judge each other over what supermarket they shop at over here 😂 That and no one talking to each other has taken some getting used to. Chur guys, fascinating stuff hearing the other side of the coin!
Thanks so much Abe! It makes us warm inside to know that we are reaching you far and wide...thank you for your kind words and say hi to Reading for us! 😁
Just found your videos I like them very interesting to listen to your views and opinions on nz, I moved to taranaki when I was 18 on my own from the uk, i moved back to the uk 3 years ago and i just cant stand it here anymore back to taranaki in for me cant bloody wait.
Love listening to you two!! Amusing and so full of information! Wish you had been around when we were coming to NZ, you would have answered so many questions we had that were impossible to find in guide books. Can’t wait for the next one!!
I stayed in a hotel for 2 and a half weeks while looking at rental properties, many were awful, but quickly found the right place. So glad I didn't try to arrange something from the UK, it is impossible to get a feel for the suburbs until you arrive and drive around. Something to be aware of regarding possessions being shipped over - due to having to start a job on a given date my partner and I had to travel before getting our visas in place, we were left sweating on the visas coming through before the container hit the dock or we would have been charged GST on the value of the contents, in the end, and with the application of considerable pressure my partners visa was faxed through a couple of hours before the container was unloaded.
Oh no...I can imagine that was a bit hairy...nothing like a bit of added pressure to start your new life with?! Thanks so much for watching and for the comment; really appreciate the support - Liz :)
@@ItsaDrama it had been a bit stressful from the off, because we were emigrating we had bought tickets one way only, but because we hadn't received our visas they wouldn't let us on the plane, we purchased flights to Sydney to overcome this issue. Then on arrival in Auckland the immigration officer asked if we were coming to work? To which I lied, no we are just travelling. How are you going to support yourselves for 6 months? We just sold our house in the UK. Fortunately he saw fit to give us visitors visas. The other advice around moving here that came to mind was using the removal company to pack your possessions, not only do they know what can or can't be shipped, but the inventory and box numbers were essential when NZ Biosecurity came to inspect our possessions. Fortunately the officer was impressed by the cleanliness and organisation and the experience was painless.

I sold a 5 year old Volvo before leaving the UK in 2010, and couldn't believe the cost of very average second hand vehicles in Christchurch. The vehicles available were older, higher milage , less features and more expensive. To buy the equivalent car as we had sold would have cost 3 to 4 times what I had sold for.
That was something we were miffed about for years Ian...not bringing our old Rav 4...though to be honest she probably wouldn't have made it through compliance 🧐
Brian & Liz we are enjoying a Sunday here watching some of your past video's. We do have a question: @ 6:07 you mentioned that you are allowed double luggage when you emigrate. Is this the country or the airlines? Secondly how did you find out about this? Thanks again!
If I remember rightly it was a Singapore airline thing. Each airline has different luggage allowance and theirs allowed us extra as we could prove that we were emigrating. I'll as Bri to clarify but I'm pretty sure that was what it was Randy!
I don't know what part of the Taranaki region you are in, but at one point I was planning to move to New Plymouth (if I won a lottery). Then I mapped all the mines and the oil refinery in the region, and decided against it. I was wondering; being in that region, have you felt at all affected by the petroleum industry in the Taranaki basin?
Laughing out loud…. Re: the Subaru…. You two are so entertaining. Honestly, if I closed my eyes, I’d think Yvette and Carl Beatie were talking, only Liz is not so out the gate dramatic as Yvette, so far. Oh wait! You said the F word Liz. I may have spoken too soon. LOVEi it!!
I did?? Oh no!! (Don't let my mum here it 🤣) It has been such a lovely joy seeing you comment on so many of our videos Kass, we really, really appreciate it ☺️
@@ItsaDrama Hiya Liz. 👋🏻😀 I’m sure mum would understand your frustration at the topic of the Subaru and at least it wasn’t the full on F word 😬 Uh ohhh… another addict for Most Haunted, in the making … Thank you for for your guys cool vids. I can’t help but comment and give credit where due.
If I DO win that ever-elusive lottery, I have so many questions for you. The first is: Do you think it was better to immediately rent an RV as opposed to a house when you arrived?
HI Liz and Bryan! I loved listening to the conversation. Really helps puts everything in perspective. I'm a 26 year old South African that recently switched to the plumbing industry, motivated by my dream to immigrate to a more developed country. I have a couple of questions on the laws and registration for plumbers in New Zealand. Is there an email address I could reach you two on for a sit down and chat? Bennett Terblanche

🤣Tah dah! Perfect!

100k ouch! 🤑
I know right?...😬😬I try not to remind Bri about this too often...
It is not possible not to make any
mistakes in life...
So true. Thanks for watching Joanna :)
Your first and biggest mistake, was not moving to NZ sooner :-P
Yup! 😂
Jeromy Clarkson wouldnt know which end to put on the toilet seat.
I'm not going to show Brian this comment...he will cry...🙃🤣
Liz tell it like it is. No,! It's horrible!(the car. We pronounce su ba ru Subaru, not Supa ru.
Always my friend...always...🤣
Boy racer car lol
😂I bet he secretly knew Eileen...
So your first mistake, you made a profit on? 2nd one worked out ok. All good then? Lmao
Yeah...nah ...when you put it like that...but the third made up for it big style ...😳🤣
I'm just saying you need to shorten your videos.
Ok, thank you. We'll have a go at shortening them.
@BB21 AGAIN I disagree - this is a great length for podcast! If you find it too long, maybe you should try listening at 2x speed? Just saying.
@@juliamonteiro7466 No because then they would sound funny.
As a Kiwi it's very interesting to hear about NZ failings for Brits.
You can be heard very well.
the sound is great
Thank you Jane 😊
