it had to be too as it just sounds so longingly wistful whereas a normal guitar wouldn't have had that and would have jarred you out of the trance this song puts you into.
For me, this is the best version of my favourite Pink Floyd song. Everyone knows the Comfortably Numb guitar solo, but IMO this is the most beautiful solo Gilmour has ever created. 100% pure emotion, and the stage + background video make it even better. Magical. Check out David Gilmour - The Blue feat. Crosby & Nash (Remember That Night). It has another magic guitar solo.
High Hopes is my favorite Pink Floyd song too. And the end solo is one of my favorites along with the 2nd solo in Comfortably Numb and the solo in Coming Back to Life.
This is my 2and favourite version my favourite was a live studio session around the time he released On An Island here is the link to the performance ruclips.net/video/o3O_Wi9UDfY/видео.html it is stunning.
The guy was simply stunned! I don't blame him. One of my friends who doesn't really listen to music actively, heard this and told me that this is by far the best thing he has ever heard in his life. He was completely overwhelmed.
Since first hearing this back in 1994 I have down the years found myself connecting to the song more and more, the sense of melancholy that I hear in the song really does resonant as I am heading to the end of my days.
I'm familiar with Pink Floyd since I was maybe 6-7 years old... Since my father brought "Dark Side Of The Moon" cassette tape home... I've never turned back from them since then. Pure perfection, emotional wizards, transcendental high without drugs... Great video Ruben! Try some more Pink Floyd in your own time ;) You will not regret it. I promise. \m/
Wow, I just cried watching this. Isn't the first time after listening to PF, and won't be the last I'm sure. But I've had a few moments today that have reminded me that I'm getting older, and things change, and I need to love the people around me. Great reaction I've loved them since I was a kid. Enjoy the journey you're on with them!
Yet another excellent analysis. You have very strong powers of perception. I very much appreciate your attempt at stoicism while being emotionally overwhelmed. It's a credit to your intellect.
Definitely one of the precious few groups, outside of the worlds of Classical art music or Jazz, whose creations go straight to the back of the brain, instead of just hammering away at superficial sensations or obsessing on the literal content of lyrics. They absolutely take you away to a place far richer and deeper, and that is something very very special.
It has been too long since I have heard this song, thank you for doing this one. It is so great to watch you discover Pink Floyd. Do not think there has been or will ever be another steel guitar solo like that one. David Gilmour shows his talent once again.
Ruben. Thank you. Wonderful song. If you want to enjoy a wonderful Pink Floyd night then try and see Australian Pink Floyd. They are amazing. They are in Netherlands in Feb 2020. Tilburg. Thank you again 😀🏴🇱🇺😀
The studio version is just as beautiful! It's clarity is astounding, but this live performance is something special! Since my mom's passing in April 2018, I never fail to get tears in my eyes when Dave hits the lap steel guitar. This song was one of her favourites (I introduced her to the Floyd), so between this, Wish You Were Here & Shine On You Crazy Diamond, it brings back fond memories of her...and a longing (or High Hopes if you will) of the day we'll meet again!! Great reaction to a stellar tune!
What a wonderful reaction Ruben! This song is kind of a farewell by them, because its the closer of their last album The Division Bell way back in 1994 (I wasn't even borne, I'm from 1995)...yes they released The endless river in 2014 but in my opinion that record is a sort of spin off of their discography. The slide guitar solo at the end is simply beyond human! Don't worry, more PF suggestion will come and I promise they will be as great as this one, or even better!
@@rokkkrinn2793 Yeah the early days are awesome as well with the contribution of Syd Barrett...but those albums and songs are more experimental and less easy listening for a non-fan. Step by step we can guide Ruben even into those records! :D
My compliments, not just for suggesting this song, but also for picking the upload with the best audio quality on youtube (this is the 60fps upload by mrsnoo86)!
welcome to pink floyd he whole pulse concert is considered to be the best live show ever suggestions from pulse , great gig in the sky , high hopes, one of these days , keep talking and the final number using over 1 million dollars of lighting hold onto your seat its run like hell and of coarse comfortably numb David Gilmore the main man is still performing world wide to sell out crowds at 78 yo you should also watch his live concert at Pompeii in 2016 aged 70 again comfortably numb and run like hell . first time an audience has been there since the roman gladiators The pulse concerts featured even more special effects than the previous tour, including two custom designed airships.[2] Three stages leapfrogged around North America and Europe, each 180 feet (55 m) long and featuring a 130-foot (40 m) arch resembling the Hollywood Bowl venue. All in all, the tour required 700 tons of steel carried by 53 articulated trucks, a crew of 161 people and an initial investment of US$4 million plus US$25 million of running costs just to stage. This tour played to over 5 million people in 68 cities; each concert gathered an average audience of 45,000
A very beautiful and powerful song. I think you had a great point about the element of pain in their music. This one always brought tears to my eyes, what an experience it is. Bravo 👏 👍
I am curious Ruben.......where would you rank this song, in terms of; musicianship, composition, writing and most importantly (for me) the emotion. Now at 68, I have such a deep sense of appreciation for the wonderful times and memories I have had in my life. This song, more than any other, makes me think of my past (the good and the bad) and just be glad for all of it. It has made me who I am. The old saying is, “You can never go back”, is true, but I wouldn’t want to......I like the memories....just the way they are. Some songs make you happy, some sad......but this song makes you remember.
Fantastic! Pink Floyd is my all time favorite band, I guess you can start to understand why ;) I recommend you to react to Hey You, one of my favorite PF songs - and the guitar solo is just amazing. Keep it up!
This concert is just unbeliavable! Nightwish did a cover of this song and they did some justice to Pink Floyd with that performance. Check it out too, 👍🏻
Thank you my friend for this... truly great composition.... always loved this song...dig in Reuben, you won't ever be disappointed with Pink Floyd.... peace.
I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction. There are a lot of reaction channels out there trying Pink Floyd, Led Zep, gnr and other classic rock bands but they would pause and rewind a track just to blabber in between that you as a true admirer of their art would be pissed of... Please react to Comfortably Numb, Wish you were here, Money and teachers by Floyd... They are their chart busters till date...
david broughton Saw Floyd live Earls Court 1975 been a fan ever since the only ground break band I’ve seen since are NightWish . Most bands are commercial first creative second.
Much of what PF did was influenced by The Beatles. Much of what every band did was influenced by The Beatles. They were the great innovators who did more to change popular music than any other band. I don't think you can compare any band to The Beatles. Who said that? David Gilmour.
Technically, he is playing a peddle steel guitar (it has a volume peddle controlled with his right foot) and he calls it that. Gilmour also plays a lap steel on occasion (Meltdown concert) where a small guitar literally sits in his lap but played virtually the same as a peddle steel with a slide.
Love listening to David play slide guitar such an amazing guitarist an human being. Why he hasn't been knighted yet I'll never know? He's done as much if not more charity work then Paul McCartney. You should definitely do more from the poles live album just an amazing album
This is the difference. There are faster and shredded solos on guitar by others but no one is even close to the playing emotional solos like Gilmour. These emotive solos have no parallel!!!
Try the live in Gdansk version of High Hopes. It has even better solo near the ending part and it is completed, not been cut unfinished like this version or the version in the album, makes much more complete experience than any other versions.
Well, there he is...The Dutchman himself. If I may recommend another Pink Floyd somg that I'm certain that you will emjoy, from this same concert, I believe, is their song "Sorrow." It is amazing. Please do yourself this favor, you won't regret a single second of it...Promise!
Awesome choice. Great band, definitely in my top 5. Dude, still hoping you will do Rush The Necromancer. You haven't done any Rush for a while, and that would be a great choice for you since it seems you really like their early stuff. I would highly recommend the version from the studio album (Caress of Steal I believe).
I'd very much like your impression of Roger Waters, Us and Them tour live, Pigs(three different ones) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles that I saw live.
I would love to see you react to Dogs of war off the momentary lapse of reason LP its a side of Pink Floyd you dont see to often The live version is even better
Shine on you Crazy Diamond. Comfortably Numb. Both from the same concert are my next suggestions for you. But pick anything. You won't be disappointed.
The ironic thing for me is when this album came out in 94 I think? I was right in the middle of my “green grass” part of life and thought Pink Floyd was “lame” and for people my parents age. Now 25 years later I hear it and it’s like “holy Christ. What happened?” 🤭
You react to a lot of Metal, in it's different forms, but you should throw in a prog song occasionally to balance things out. I think that changing it up is good for your channel. I hope to see more.
I'd love to see ypu react to "Fat old sun" Live in Gdansk by David Gilmour. I've never seen any reaction to this song, which i can't really understand. Because the song is beautiful and Gilmours solo is one of his bests ever recorded. Check it out, you won't be dissapointed
And i thought i knew every version of this song... see that's the magic, every live version has it's own touch but all of them are great! Ruben, i really recommend you to explore their live versions, maybe even older ones like Pink Floyd Live in Pompeii. "A saucerful of secrets" will amaze you!!
That instrument David Gilmore played the solo on is called lap steel guitar. It sounds surreal!
it had to be too as it just sounds so longingly wistful whereas a normal guitar wouldn't have had that and would have jarred you out of the trance this song puts you into.
Troy from QOTSA plays something similar on The Blood is Love. Cool dark song from their album Lullabies to Paralyze.
Too bad they hardly show him playing the solo!
It sounds unbelievable! Gives those tingles
How can this be topped? That song gives me the piss shivers each time I hear it. Just absolutely beautiful.
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
When friends surrounded
The nights of wonder
Im speechless, thank you ❤
This song will ALWAYS make me cry! Such an incredible send off!!! Rest easy Syd!! Shine on you crazy diamond. ❣️
My favourite Pink Floyd song too, but I think I prefer the live version from Robert Wyatt's Meltdown
High Hopes is my favorite Pink Floyd song too. And the end solo is one of my favorites along with the 2nd solo in Comfortably Numb and the solo in Coming Back to Life.
I kinda like the David Gilmour version. Pompeii 2016. It sounds rougher and has some new twists.
Gdansk is the ultimate performance for me, check it out, extra long guitar riff at the end with orchestra 👍👌
This is my 2and favourite version my favourite was a live studio session around the time he released On An Island here is the link to the performance ruclips.net/video/o3O_Wi9UDfY/видео.html it is stunning.
A piece of art where every note is played with the outmost care. Beautiful. Agree with you. Nice reaction
Gilmour is just a genius!, so smooth, clear and powerful.
The song is so deep and beautifully played.
A masterpiece, given a master performance. My one regret is never seeing Pink Floyd in concert.
The guy was simply stunned! I don't blame him. One of my friends who doesn't really listen to music actively, heard this and told me that this is by far the best thing he has ever heard in his life. He was completely overwhelmed.
It's just hard for me to believe that someone who has Metallica poster on his wall is first time introduced to this song at this age.
I am ashamed of myself ;)
Such a sad song yet so relatable for us “old timers” wondering what happened to our youth. Cheers Ruben! 🍻🤘🏻
Since first hearing this back in 1994 I have down the years found myself connecting to the song more and more, the sense of melancholy that I hear in the song really does resonant as I am heading to the end of my days.
And the world.
Almost impossible to believe that this is a LIVE performance! Absolute perfection
One of the very few songs that gives me goosebumps every time. Monumental.
any pink floyd is amazing. any from that pulse tour though, is just pure excellence.
Pink Floyd are heritage of humanity!
One of their five greatest tracks in my opinion. That's high praise for Pink Floyd. Glad you enjoyed it.
I promise. \m/
DG makes the slide guitar beg for its life !
"and they have the skill to play it like there is no tomorrow" - perfect!
Such a relatable song it always makes me shed a tear or two.
There will never be another Pink Floyd
Great song....well written, emotional, and leaves you thinking!
Wow, I just cried watching this. Isn't the first time after listening to PF, and won't be the last I'm sure. But I've had a few moments today that have reminded me that I'm getting older, and things change, and I need to love the people around me.

Very well said😄
Saw this tour at the Rose Bowl in 94. One of the best shows I have ever witnessed. Great reaction!
Beautiful composition. It has kind of a sad feel. With the years passing by I'm beginning to appreciate this music style more and more.
High Hopes live in Gdansk is even better, as he added an additional acoustic solo at the end.
It has been too long since I have heard this song, thank you for doing this one. It is so great to watch you discover Pink Floyd. Do not think there has been or will ever be another steel guitar solo like that one. David Gilmour shows his talent once again.
You are young and yet you feel the emotion of the song. Listen it in 10 years and it will hit even harder. MUCH harder...
Ruben. Thank you. Wonderful song. If you want to enjoy a wonderful Pink Floyd night then try and see Australian Pink Floyd. They are amazing. They are in Netherlands in Feb 2020. Tilburg. Thank you again 😀🏴🇱🇺😀

@Stian Myrdal Laursen exactly, that's why I consider it as a spin off album...it isn't new material, more of a tribute to Rick as you said
My compliments, not just for suggesting this song, but also for picking the upload with the best audio quality on youtube (this is the 60fps upload by mrsnoo86)!
A subtle song delivers a gut punch... not an easy task to move with such emotion through subtle means.

One of my favorite songs on Pulse. The Division Bell album was a really good album in itself. Great reaction! Great seeing your genuine feelings.
Sheer perfection. It's hard to listen to any other artist or natural sound after a Pink Floyd marathon 🏃
A very beautiful and powerful song. I think you had a great point about the element of pain in their music. This one always brought tears to my eyes, what an experience it is. Bravo 👏 👍

One of the best solos by Gilmour. It touches my soul. Thank you peace ✌️
I never tire hearing this magnum opus over and over again. Hits me hard every time!
you said it... their magnus opus
Fantastic! Pink Floyd is my all time favorite band, I guess you can start to understand why ;)

Lorenzo thanks for this request. I was already a fan of the studio version of the song but hadn't heard or seen the Pulse performance. Masterful.
Was an awesome tour..Saw it at 3 rivers stadium from down on the field.
Pink Floyd are awesome can’t beat David Gilmores guitar for emotional connection
Many great songs . Thanks for not interrupting 👏

I would highly recommend you do anything off of the Live at Pompeii DVD. Absolutely amazing
Any Live Pulse song by Pink Floyd is amazing.
Excellent performance
Quickly becoming one of my favorites.
That steel guitar solo is so perfect.
That outro slide solo gets me all the time
One of these Days is worth a look
It's already in the list :D
Im just 1 out of 6 billion people....and i will always love PINK FLOYD........1 day i hope 6 billion do....might just change things.
🇬🇧 Greetings! Pink Floyd are better than the Beatles 😊
When Pink Floyd recorded their first album the Beatles were recording in Abbey Road studios at the same time. Don’t you wish you were there?

When i was a kid growing up in yorkshire....cut....was a canal
If I had the chance to use a time machine for only one time, I would choose this moment and experience this concert live.
and it's live.. its perfection.
David Gilmour is one of those guitarists that don’t play the guitar, He breathes life into it
Only seen them live once, 1973(I think) Manchester UK, Dark Side Of The Moon. It was rather good.
Yes,forever and ever
The final track on the final Pink Floyd album. What a way to go out.
What a trip, ah brotha?. xD.
Fantastic.. Really fantastic.

Perfectly encapsulates the suffering of human existence! Art in its purest form.
breakthrough by Rick and played on "in concert David Gilmour". Is awesome, indeed.
Might I suggest, from the same concert, the song “Sorrow”. Utterly powerful and beautiful.....masterful
I highly recommend The Australian Pink Floyd tribute band. I've seen the Floyd twice and the Australian tribute band about three times now.
Brit Floyd are excellent, plenty of RUclips videos of them and well worth seeing live.
Great song, check out the version from the Gdansk concert, it has an amazing extended acoustic outro.
The Gdansk version is perhaps the only one that may slightly edge out the PULSE version, IMHO, but both are ethereal, wonderful versions!
This song was even better performed in 2006 when David played a much longer acoustic outro to it.
This is the difference. There are faster and shredded solos on guitar by others but no one is even close to the playing emotional solos like Gilmour. These emotive solos have no parallel!!!
I love Pink Floyd. Especially David Gilmour. For its incredible solos and the striking timbre. They are the best without a doubt.
listen on the turning away
