Lucy represents a good person playthrough. Maximus represents a Neutral persons playthrough, And the Ghoul represents a Bad person playthrough. Imo

Pretty much what I took away from it as well. Lucy definitely feels like a luck build, Maximus is the strength/PA build, and the Ghoul is pure VATS. Solid way to bring the game mechanics into the narrative.

I didn't notice this but The ghoul calls them "Tomatoes" instead of tatos like everyone else in the wasteland, he was around with the normal fruit

Jonathan Nolan wanted the show out all at once. He eluded to reddit being your worst enemy if you do it episodic. They come up with theories/get mad when the theories dont come true. Fallout has a hardcore fanbase, so i think they did the right thing
It means you have to awkwardly insert 7 cliffhangers too. I prefer watching an 8 hour movie, over 8 episodes with filler cliffhangers and weekly recaps and previews that eat up time, leaving you with a 30 minute actual show each week.
but to that point, i think keeping it once a week keeps a show more relevant in the zeitgeist of pop culture. People tend to forget binge shows quicker.

I think Star Wars would benefit from taking that approach. While the engagement and theorizing is in theory good I think it actually ends up doing more harm.

Michael Emerson who played the doctor worked with show runner Jonathan Nolan on a great show called Person Of Interest a decade ago, he played a genius scientist who walked with a limp and had a Belgian Malinois to protect him. Person of Interest was a good watch, lot of interesting characters
Also the stimpak and jet made the exact sounds from the game.
In this one when the dog gets up from the stimpak i swears its the exact animation dogmeat has when you revive him in game.
Walter Goggins said in an interview not that long ago that he didn't base his performance of the ghoul on anything from previous fallout games. He based his performance on old westerns like John Wayne and Clint Eastwood and it works SO SO WELL in my opinion. Because if you really think about it Fallout IS pretty much a sci fi western
Heck yeah. I think he made a good choice by coming at it fresh, with no prior knowledge other than what's in the script.

The Ghoul is playing a V.A.T.S. build, clearly.
As the show progressed I mentally went through various perks and oddities from the game. Howard/Ghoul definitely has the Penetrator perk with the ability to thread the needle to get hits.
Also, when Lucy walked up to the guy to ask directions she had her gun out, yet he didn't freak out. Because in the world of FPS games, having a gun in your hand 24/7 is perfectly normal.
I totally didn't get it the first time I watched this episode, I dig it so much.

Well, the mindless selfie shot crowd has got their work cut out for them reaching that location😂. Wonder if it'd cause a small uptick in tourism. The Skeleton Coast has its own stark beauty. The abandoned desert town in the later scenes does exist.
There are several significant dogs in the Fallout series. Most of them are called Dogmeat. The only robot dog I’m aware of is Rex from New Vegas.
There was another one you can get as a companion in Fallout 2, just referred to as Robodog.

Two were cyberdogs (Robodog and K-9), third was Dogmeat from a very rare random encounter, and the fourth was the cursed dog you're thinking of. And you can have all four of them following you around at once (though why you want the last one is beyond me).

I don’t think Maximus is the opposite of Lucy, they’re more like different sides of the same coin. They’re both naive and idealistic, it just manifests in different ways due to their different upbringings.
All three were naive and innocent. The Ghouls just been around longer and is no longer naive.
Cool fact about the filly set, they build the set of filly in Texas and invited a bunch of Fallout Content creators and the cast for a special showing before it opened to the public.
Michael Emerson must be getting expensive if they couldn't afford more than his head for most of the season.
I was grinning ear to ear when she walked into Filly and it looked so much like Megaton. Took me back to playing fallout 3 for the first time and just wandering exploring everything discovering the world.
Oh man, my first playthrough of Fallout 3, I didn't make it to Megaton before the sun set. And I didn't know how to wait or sleep. So I found a beat-up camper in the middle of the ruins and got in there and closed the door, and I just sat there listening to the sounds of the wasteland until the sun came up. I've never quite had an experience like that in a game since then.

Maximus grew on me 100x faster once I realized that he's basically a stand-in for the player.

Things do hit different when you're a dad. Situations involving kids or families used to just illicit a sympathetic reaction of sadness in a "Aww, that's a shame." sort of way. After kids it's hits home harder and your brain easily superimposes you and your family into those situations and your brain prompts you with "WHAT WOULD YOU DO???"
I think Hemingway sums it up best, "When you have a child the world has a hostage"

OMG I just realized... At the standoff in Filly, Maximus's gun got shot out of his hand. I've seen this episode several times and I always thought he just fumbled it. lmao
It's really subtle, but you can see and hear the bullet hit it.
Seeing who was playing the Knight immediately made me think of him going: "Maximus! Maximus! Look at this fuckin bear!"
if y'all like michael emerson you should *totally* watch person of interest. its 5 seasons of pure fun with a slow burn scifi twist. Emerson really gets to flex his acting chops in it. its an cult classes series.
Lost is where he first gained fame. One of the best characters on that show, and he helped carry the mediocre final seasons.
Person of Interest was great, and would be amazing for the boys to watch.
Another vote for Person of Interest! Given how much Jay and Adam appreciate "lore", the show would be a perfect fit for the channel.

Everyone talks about Johnathan Nolan and Westworld, but Person of Interest is his greatest work as a showrunner, hands down.

"enclave" and "conclave" have similar etymological roots, but a conclave is a locked room private meeting, and an enclave is a territory surrounded by another state in every direction.

To answer your question from first episode the Brotherhood do indeed exist on the West Coast. The group was founded by Roger Maxson a captain within the U.S Army who was sent to monitor a West-Tek facility in California on January 3, 2076. A year later on January 7, 2077 all West-Tek personal along with Maxson and his team included were relocated to the newly constructed Mariposa Military Base just south east of San Francisco.
On On October 10, 2077, Maxson and his men discovered that West-Tek scientists were using military prisoners as test subjects for the Forced Evolutionary Virus (F.E.V.) in hopes of creating Super Soldiers but ended up giving birth to the Super Mutants. Maxson had the research team executed for their crimes and declared his desertion from the United States Army via radio on October 20 just three days before the Great Way. Maxson and his fellow soldiers moved their families into the Military and then three days later the Great War broke out. By November 2077 Maxson eventually led his band of survivors to the safety of Lost Hills which would become the home of the Brotherhood of Steel.
The Brotherhood of Steel would later spread across America decades later forming their own chapters with differing ideas such as the East Coast BOS you meet in Fallout 3 who took on the goal of helping the wastelanders over collecting tech. They also hire wastelanders as well into the ranks of the BOS something the West Coast refuse to do. This led the West Coast to cut contact with the East Coast Brotherhood of Steel after differing ideals.
By the events of Fallout New Vegas the West Coast Brotherhood of Steel were limited in numbers with many in hiding thanks to the NCR coming to power and hunting them down.
By Fallout 4 set in 2287 (9 years before the show) Arthur Maxson began Elder of the East Coast BOS sometime after Fallout 3 post 2277 bringing the ideals of the original Brotherhood of Steel back. He made contact with the West Coast by promising to return to the main mission of the Brotherhood of Steel and the other Elders welcomed him with open arms.
The Brotherhood of Steel in this show seem much closer to the East Coast BOS. They fly the East Coast BOS flag, there's a massive airship that I personally believe to be from the East Coast. And the Knights wear T-60 power armour something we see Knights wear in Fallout 4 thanks to the BOS discovering a stockpile of T-60 Power Armour sometime after Fallout 3.
Also seems that that the East Coast are still in contact with the West as the orders to hunt down the target came from the Commonwealth, Boston. Setting of Fallout 4 and where the East Coast BOS travelled too from D.C on a mission involving a new faction.
I imagine that Airship is from the East Coast and is filled with equipment found on the East Coast including the T-60 power armour. We know Max had a flashback to a Knight in T-60 so I imagine they've been here for a while on the West Coast, maybe even before the events of Fallout 4. Once Arthur became Elder they could've sent out a few airships to meet up with the older chapters.

The Airships are what carried the BoS TO the East Coast, so of course they would be on the West Coast too

Given what we learn later about the NCR - I think it’s safe to assume the Brotherhood recentered its leadership eastwards since then
I saw an interview with Purnell (Lucy). Most of what we see as derelict stuff is practical, including the skeletal ship in the desert. It was shot on what is called the Skeleton Coast in Namibia.
I totally forgot that your companions always get back up after combat... Explains how a health stim cured all that damage. And comes right back in 'default standing animation'.
My favorite sound in the show is the grenade launcher FOOMP of The Ghouls four barrel 40k bolter.

This is an absolute amazing game adaption, they even have the same type of ambiant background music. It is so damn impressive.

I think the turret also represents that 70% of the things in the fall out universe are more designed to look good rather than to actually be super effective. Everything but the nukes. Their success rate was pretty high.😂
My thought is that it was explicitly designed as a deterrent to escapees rather than a to eliminate them - people in a facility like that are both an investment and resource, so just firing *at* them to convince them to retreat is arguably a more pragmatic option than outright killing them.
That's just a plausible thought though and it's not to say both theories can't be right.

Doc was gonna bleed out well before they made it twenty miles.
I thought it wasn't a pencil sharpener, but it was grinding off the ragged, jagged bone splinters and flapping flesh into a cohesive flat/rounded stump, and then acted as a sealed protective shell.... or at least that was the design intention of the device. But, this was a cheap, inferior version, and as such didn't quite function well.
Probably weren't supposed to immediately flee for your life on the new limb either
This episode really showcased the series choice to use the factions and grey morality of the original games, paired with the environmental story telling of the Bethesda games. Oh, also the starter town in Fallout 3 is Megaton. The villain(ish) woman's name is Maltese Falcon, named after the ship that Indiana Jones flew in Star Trek.

The machine gun at the start missed cause it used the VATS. Never use VATS with the minigun, you'll never hit a shot. What a noob turret.

the turrets in fallout almost never manage to hit anything that isn't standing still or moving directly towards them, their tracking is atrocious

This episode got 1 out of 1 ornery Yao Guais (yes, this is that they named the irradiated bears, because bad puns were essential in the 90s😂).
I just finished the series last night with the wife (I’m a massive fan, she is a fan by association) and there is SO MUCH FAN SERVICE in the last few episodes that it had me doing the Di Caprio “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” meme every few minutes. But not only that, it’s a beautifully crafted story for people who enjoy genre fiction like this as well, which is why it’s such a great series. And without spoiling things - I’m absolutely certain they wrote this series assuming they’d get another one greenlit!

The desert scenes are shot in Namibia, it was actually the first set location that Nolan had in mind when he left the meeting with Howard when they first got together to discuss making the show.
The Ghoul obviously chose Better Criticals and Bloody Mess as Perks.

That Fallout 3 town with the nuke in the center of it was Megaton. I always disarm, with the exception of one time where I just wanted to see what would happen.

The Conclave: “It’s where the government went!”
Im excited for this man. Its up there with my all time favorites. Episode 6 has a moment that made me almost cry. I wont ruin it but the nostalgia hit like a brick to the face.
I've been to Namibia in south-west Africa back in 1997, and when I saw the scenes inside the abandoned houses half-buried in sand I went "Wait, did they actually film this in Kolmanskop?" The larger scenic aerial shot is obviously doctored with CGI, but the inside of those early 20th century houses is pretty iconic from photographs.
Kolmanskop (Afrikaans for "Coleman's peak", German: Kolmannskuppe) is a ghost town in the Namib in southern Namibia, 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) inland from the port town of Lüderitz at the Skeleton Coast. (So named for the skeletons of many ships that stranded there over the past centuries, not for human skeletons.)
You drive right by it on the road to Lüderitz, but the ghost town of Kolmanskop is restricted area and not normally open to tourists unless you get a special permit. That hasn't stopped the local youth from Lüderitz going there in the evening for secret parties. Many years ago photographers from National Geographic got a permit to film there, for an article on how the sand dunes are slowly burying the ghost town, with the inside of rooms half full of blown sand.
I don't believe this is a spoiler. But in this episode we hear the shopkeeper say that her client is Moldaver, so we can assume Wilzig (now headless man) knows that is where he is going. If he knows that she took Lucy's dad, then he would know who Lucy is because she is a Vault Dweller that is trying to find Moldaver to get her dad back. Least that was my reading of the situation.

I think the perfect video game adaptation works so well for the game designers, because if you watch the show you want to play the games. After finishing the show I loaded up fallout 3 so fast hahaha (I haven't played it in 10 years).

Maximus reminds me of what one of you said (I think Jay) about Walker in Falcon and the Winter Soldier...I trust him to do the right thing but not 100% of the time. I think he wants to be in a position where he can do something about bullies, rude, wanting to hurt others. In the first episode when he was talking to his friend who was supposed to go, they pointed or nodded at one of the bullies. I think he could go either way. Determined and desperate to prove himself or wanting to believe the brotherhood are supposed to be good, but his choices can go either or and he'll probably find a way to justify it. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, I've never played the game. Honestly, I haven't had a game console since a PS2 😅
This was such a fascinating watch for me, who has tried his hands on Fallout, but never really got further than the first few quests, so I was sometimes completely lost when it came to creatures, lore dumps, or other tidbits. Like that compound being part of the Enclave. I had to read up what the Enclave was, yet it basically turned out what I imagined it must've been.
Anyway, I went back to Fallout 4 and now I really want to see where it goes and how I fare in the wasteland.

I know the Enclave is in basically every Fallout game, but I still just remember them for President Dick Richardson. Fallout is a very serious franchise.
The fallout universe had the same history as ours until world War 2 instead of fearing nuclear energy as we did after the bombs dropped on Japan, they reveled in it and studied nuclear energy in household objects. Some tech advanced while others were stagnant and society never advanced in style beyond the 50s
