I love art but my motivation has always been low because i'm not very good, but everytime i watch your videos i burn up with energy and just get to practicing. Hopefully i'll be able to create beautiful artworks like this one day. Thank you :)
The grainy watercolor might not have been a bad batch, there are ways to use it for your advantage in creating texture. (been painting for 30+ years).
Connie Faye Ive run into issues with grainy paints (watercolor and acrylic mainly), I usually get rid of it, although I hate just trashing it. How do you use it? Any tips? I would love being able to actually use the paints instead of dumping them out!
BananaPiePaige It's called granulation in watercolors and there's no way around it other than to avoid pigments that granulate, which cobalt pigments are known for. Any graininess in acrylics is probably because the pigments aren't ground up small enough, which I'm assuming is a problem in your earthy tones. Again, avoid those pigments or use a brand that grinds the pigments to a smaller size. Artist grade paint usually lists the pigment on the tube, look it up to find out whether it'll granulate or be grainy before buying it. :)
Thank you! I've only had the graininess issue happen twice, one with watercolor and one with acrylic. Thank you though! I will definitely look into that!
There are some really interesting ways to use it to get a nice texture. I usually use it over other washes (it's the top layer). Play around with it, but I usually use lots of water (so the granules are floating) then tilt your paper, you'll see the granules move. From what I've seen companies are producing these kinds of paints for this effect.

You can! But *wishing* won't make it happen, *doing* is the only way to to learn and improve a skill. We all started with stick figures :)
I started working with watercolors few mnths ago. With no extra room as a studio and having cats around, that option is the best, compared with oil, for example. Plus... that technique is just special.

What type of pencils should I look for? I feel like regular pencils get smudged when they come in contact with water, but yours stay just as well as ink.
