I eat like a king and live in a rooftop apartment in Seoul and my cost of living is so much lower than when I lived in Detroit. Not needing to own a car makes a really big difference.
My family are always shocked that I have money for travel adventures. They joke that I'm a hooker..... nah bro just don't own a car, have no children or responsibilities for that matter 😂
Your videos really give me a nice “vacation” on these dull and home staying days 🥺 thank you so much... I hope you know how much it helps during lockdown times 🥲
Food and transportation in Kores are CHEAP ! $1 for bus or subway ride? Living in the US, you have to pay tax+tip for every food in restaurant. For transportation, you need 2-4 cars for 4 members of family. Maintenance +fuel alone costs a lot
seoul is a much safer city, your apartment is so much nicer than mine and you still have a lower cost of living there than i do 😭 not to mention my transportation costs here in the US are ridiculous because i don’t live in a city with good or safe public transportation. your videos are such a drive for me to finish my BA so i can be on my way ✈️
im housesitting and taking care of three dogs, and ive been putting your vlogs on in that background while studying for the past few days! the boys and i are living it up and loving your content lol
I love your observations on the price range differences of certain cuisines and produce. I've seen a lot of YT videos on what it takes to maintain a vegan/vegetarian diet in various Asian countries, and those videos tend to focus on restaurants and what can be bought at grocery stores, without considering the price tag.
I never saw a Tea for 7-9 Euro here in Germany , what the?! 🤔 In a normal bakery its about 2,50 - 3,50 Euro. In fancy coffee shops like Starbucks its about 3-5 Euro, depending on the size. In a cafe its about 3-5 Euro too, for a cup.
In Korea, strawberry shipments in natural state are around April. Strawberries grown in the greenhouse are shipped from winter because they can get a better price.
Food are so expensive here. For what i notice : Tofu, bean sprout, white radish, tteok, noodles flour are affordable. i found quite cheap frozen veggies in a mart name "Food and" if you wanna check. I think rice is super expensive TT. I'm really on a budget and it's pretty difficult when you want eat properly and a bit diverse. I struggle even to find not too expensive cabbage or potato which are suppose to be local and season veggies here. And i'm in Busan, so it's suppose to be cheaper than seoul. Also as a vegetarian, i struggle to eat meal outside that make me full for a "normal price". Yes, i can buy a kimpab for 2500 but i'm not gonna go far away with that. So i'm cooking, mosty korean, japanese, chinese because that's the cheapest food to buy and they share a lot of ingredients ^^
May I applaud you just for the honest look at the logistics -- financial or otherwise -- of the "content creator lifestyle." I've only recently found your channel this past year, so I never saw your original cost-breakdown post, but I find it super commendable that you choose to show your viewers the reality of how you live. Considering how many younger people might look up to people like you and other youtubers, it's a refreshingly responsible way for one to use their influence and I respect that. Keep it up!! 👍❤️
I just want to say, I discovered your channel via your CLOY review (which I loved TO DEATH) and am now on binge watching your videos. Your videos are all so so sooooo good, so entertaining and educational and very well made! I’m honestly surprised that you don’t have more subscribers and views. Looking forward to seeing more of your content!
this was really informative and interesting to get to know how different the prices for something like fruits can be! 🍓 and that you pay for the ambience of a pretty cafe, but still want to visit of course! 😁☕
I can totally vouch for Korean food being sooooo cheap! You get a meal that can be shareable(depending how much you can eat) and the banchan... oh my god, it should be like that here too at the other side of the world. If people cannot handle spicy food, you can ask them politely to lessen the spiciness and they'll do that for you. :) No matter how expensive it can get, I would always go for goguma latte if it's available. LOL That was my very first drink when I travelled to SK few years back so it made it to my top drinks to try when going to SK.
Thanks for the insight, Cari! I would love a video that covers your experience speaking Korean in everyday life - at the grocery store, restaurants clothes/home goods shopping, etc. If you would feel comfortable putting small clips of you doing so, that would be great too!
It would be fun to see a list of your favorite kpop songs of all time, I know you probably don’t listen to kpop as much as you use to but it would still be interesting 💜
wow how timely 😂 just watched your last week’s vlog and out of curiosity randomly mentally computed you‘ve spent that day and thought how expensive it must be living in korea ✨
Greetings from U.K. 🇬🇧 always excited to see you upload just before bedtime :) really enjoy your videos, we are very slowly moving towards opening up after lockdown and seeing you in cafes and libraries is a nice reminder of what will be possible soon !
Hii Cari! Thank you for the video! That's a topic I've been looking up a lot lately 🌸 I'm trying to estimate the cost of living in korea for my exchange year, so you really helped me out!
Its hard because you’ll want to do a lot of things that are expensive while youre here hahah once you’re here longer, you tend to find a cheaper routine. Just make sure to find a budget that works for you ✨🙏
I live for those coffee house ambiance shots you do. ❤︎ The last time I was able to sit down in a coffee house and enjoy a cup of coffee was in October, because since then we've been in lockdown here in Austria. 😭
Hi Cari! I love all of the music you use in your videos and was sad to see that they are not noted in the description. I am specifically wondering about the song that starts at 17:19. Thank you for making such wonderful videos and keeping me inspired during lockdown.
I love how much more connected I am to the seasons since watching your videos!! even from a different continent and a place where weather is pretty grey all round (the uk lol)
I'm glad you brought up coffee as the first thing. When we visited Seoul a few years ago, that was one of the first things that struck us; the coffee costs a lot more than in Canada! Like, the first place we went too wasn't even fancy, it was corporate-y / Starbucks-like (I think it was called the Coffee Bean). Anyhow, it was equivalent to like $4.50 CDN for a drip coffee, when usually it's about half that at home... even at the fancy joints!
Cari!! Would you consider doing a video on the fashion in Korea? It seems like lately blazers and wide leg pants are in!! I’m just curious what style is preferred 😁
heeey idk but could you maybe do a sit-down vid with kaila? she seems like a rly interesting person and you two look like you have loads of fun together hehe idk what you’d wanna talk about in a sit-down but i’d definitely love to watch it ☺️
I actually rewatched the video from 3 years ago recently and also after your new one it really makes me want to move to Seoul (not only bc of that ofc haha). I love big cities and tbh many Americans comment like "it's affordable but you don't make as much as in the US"..... idk about the US, I live in Poland and except for the groceries everything's the same price basically (also the rent). I'm studying Marketing and the average salary is 5000PLN (per month, BEFORE TAX...., this is about 1,500,000KW), meanwhile in Seoul (it's just based on Google so idk if it's 100% accurate) the average is 3 TIMES THAT. and yes I love living in Europe I think it's super convenient and bc of EU we can easily move to other countries but there aren't as many big convenient and affordable cities (yes in western Europe you make much more but also the expenses are higher). anyways, thanks a lot for sharing with us (money is kind of a taboo topic amongst influencers/youtubers etc), I hope that someday I will also be able to enjoy this amazing city myself. Hope you're having an amazing day Cari, love you

@@caricakes yeah I grew up in so-cali and a good hole in the wall place is always best, but living here in Utah the suit down restaurants aren't that cheap anymore.
I went to Seoul 11 years ago, so I'm pretty sure it's become more expensive. Korea imports asparagus and avocados from my country! Here avocados are so cheap but yeah, I remember that fruit and some vegetables were really expensive!

So funny that in Korea the strawberry season is during the winter. Here in Finland it is during the summer as they grow outside :Ddd
