Subbed because watching slightly older guys teach sports fitness is much more valid than watching very young guys do it. Incredibly young muscular guys wouldnt even notice if they were doing things wrong because their strength, vitality and bodily repair mechanisms will mask their mistakes until they are older and their bodies slow down. Great stuff. Watched two videos tonight and both were totally on point

I started out two weeks ago barely able to do 10 push-ups. As of yesterday, I’ve been doing sets of 25-30 up to 100+ throughout the day (at age 65+). *BUT* after watching the PROPER way, I’ve been doing them exactly WRONG! I tried the proper way and could only do a few! I’ll have to start all over again. Thanks for the instruction!

I would have thought the opposite, and that you do want to be looking at the ground because it would be keeping you essentially in the same body position as when you are doing bench press. Plus it looks like the spine would be more lined up that way.
I would be going from looking forward to looking down at the ground all in the same set, so definitely improperly right?
Going to try looking up. Thank you for the "HEADS UP"!!

On a good day I can do 10 but if some part of my body feels cranky I will do just 5-7. So far it's going well and by that I mean no injuries and getting stronger.

Keep good form slow and easy to loose weight by not adding to much stress . Keep your breathing above normal but not heavy, this will help you loose weight and get fit. Hope this helps and adds to what Bob and Brad is saying. This works for me , and we are similar but not exactly the same . Good health to everyone .

I have to agree with Bob that the exercise at 9:40 is working serratus anterior. I can't find any source indicating subscapularis is involved with protraction of the scapula. Brad even mentions it keeping the scapula firmly against the rib cage, which is clearly the role of serratus anterior, not subscapularis.

I'm in my mid 40s and had recently started to have shoulder pain every time I tried to do pushups. It was sort of depressing since not so long ago I could do twenty five at a time no problem. I still tried to do some with stretches to try to work through the pain and just get past it but every time it would still be there and only allow me to get through about fifteen pushups. I had noticed that it felt like I was leaning too far forward into my shoulders and couldn't figure out what was going on. I just tried this technique and OMG!!! So much better! Shoulders didn't feel it at all and could get through to twenty with ease again. Thank you!!

I've gotten "Up there" in age, and even though I've been into fitness
for years, For some dumb reason I neglected push-ups to the point
where, it caused some discomfort to my shoulder and my wrists.
Well, number one, I slowly began to retrain my shoulder muscles
implementing stretch bands. I also worked on my fingers, wrists,
and forearms. After a few months, push-ups became much more
doable. Trying your form helped even more. Thanx again guys!

I’m thinking “makes pushups fun” is a bit of a reach but those rotating handles do help a bunch. I’ve used them for years.

Thanks! I feel like my wrists always are the problem to doing more pushups, and I thought it was just me. I took karate as a kid and remember doing the fist pushups, but nobody else does that so I felt like out of place doing those in public. Will try those again and get over it!

Great video thanks. I'm up to 150 per day - 50 x 3 times per day.
I'm 60 and the wrist problem is real for me - I thought I was the only one. I can't use dumbbells or handles because the pressure on my palm bones is too painful - especially perfect pushups - ouch!. What works for me is anything that wedges and raises the back of my hands 1/2 to 1 inch higher than the fingers. Books, edge of a thick mat, heels of sandals, like that. Works wonders.

Knee pushups are great when you need to hit that number and up your game.
You guys should do a video on burpees, quite possibly the hardest and single best exercise ever!

Thanks for this video, especially the part about the scapula and wrists. I have just hurt my shoulder while doing push ups and now have problem moving my arms in the forward -upward direction.

Use push up handles. Can be bought for a few bucks and they save your wrists.

When I do push-ups I like to spread my fingers out more and grip the floor. It seems to give me a little more power and stability, and perhaps and forearms strengthening.
I have a set of those perfect push-up handles I bought several years ago and I really like those too.
