Love this. Now at 70 I am finally learning to do pushups, which I’ve never been to do in my life. If you have zero upper body strength it’s simply not possible to do pushups in order to develop it. Cori gets this and comes up with a solution. Thanks so much!
So many, including the entire medical system, believe loss of muscle is a natural result of aging and is unavoidable. I built more muscle after 65 than I had ever had in my life, through a weightlifting regime. The truth is, muscle loss is a result of a sedentary lifestyle and most people over 65 have a sedentary lifestyle.
I couldn’t do even a SINGLE push up. But then I started to hit the gym and concentrate on weight liftings. I did not practice push ups at all. After 3 months of weight liftings, I could do about 13-14 push ups nonstop. I think it was the back muscle workouts that really helped me do push ups. I was just astonished by the mere fact that I could do push-ups. It was amazing!
Hey guys, if you're struggling to do push ups. One really good tip is to do negatives after your push-up routine. Letting your body slowly descend will help you build strength without you needing to push up. Do it slowly at the end of your workouts. (Start with like 5 secs x 10 sets, then work your way up from there. By adding more time to each set.) Good luck! 💪

I never did more than 22 push ups. I'm a servicewomen and we have physical tests. Our grade "10" is 26 push ups and I realized I spent my last three years in the army not pointing my heels like you said in the video. When I did that I actually managed to reach 26 push ups, because I felt my weight balance moving down to my core and aliviating the effort in my back, chest and arms. It was really cool. I never improved so much at once.
Military too and I feel you. Push-ups are my biggest weakness and the Air Force just did away with the waist measurement and increased push-ups by about 50% for my age bracket… definitely not helping a sister out 😩 Gonna have to practice using that tip and see what happens!
This is exactly how and what I feel I need to be taught in order to excise properly. This is amazing. All the real information you need to know to execute the movements effectively. I am always wondering "where should I be pulling/ pushing from" "what muscles should I be focusing on using" etc .. but most videos don't quite give this full in depth explanation. 🧡 Great content.
I’ve been told since I was a kid that I don’t have good form or strength when it comes to upper body exercises and because of that my self esteem is next to zero when it comes to push-ups, and the very thought of doing even one makes me want to sob, but you’re so encouraging and helped to walk through how to do it even on a very steep incline and I feel like I actually have a chance at figuring this thing out for the first time in my life. Thank you 🥰
"I’ve been told since I was a kid that I don’t have good form or strength" You probably didn't, but you were a kid - a blank canvas, if you like, to use a big cliché. People telling you that kept you from actually developing and even though I'm sure of them meant no harm, they still inflicted some. However, the good news is it's never too late to start improving your body so if this video does it for you, then great. As a general rule of thumb, try to take things this way: any exercise is more than no exercise, any improvement is a step forward. And tiny steps is what you should be looking for, not huge leaps. Go get 'em.

this is the best explaination I have ever seen. Why did no one in PE class actually teach us how movements work? Why was it always just "here's two teams and a ball, now play" or "here's this move, this is what it should look like, now go practise". This video taught me more about push ups and how to utilize strength than 12 years of PE at school did.
Omg! I think this video is what most people need. Though fitness instructors do tell us bit and pieces of how to correct our pushups, they dont do it as detailed as you do. Thanks for this vid! Subscribed!
Yes! Calling it a moving plank completely changed my irrespective. I don't think I've ever focused on engaging my heels or back, aside from trying to keep it straight. This was great.

Wow, I started doing this 3 weeks ago without even knowing it. I started on the stairs at home! It's really fun to see my (slow but still) progress. Your arms (and back!) are goals! Thanks for this video!

Push ups are definitely my nemesis. I have never made it past my knees. I know my hatred for them has caused me to not even care. 😂 I just do other chest exercises. 🙄 With this information, I'm going to try and master these. Thanks for being my at home coach, who provides clear and concise information. 😊
This was such a quality explanation. The fact that she instructed not to go for half knee push-ups, shows that she knows what she is talking about. I can do any number of half knee push-up but not a single full push up.
Wow, no joking, your push-up is the most beautiful I have ever seen!! 😍 Your in a straight line and everything is moving in the same way. I have seen soo many people who's upper body is just moving weirdly and doing this wave with the body because they are not strong enough to do it. But wow your push up is so clean! You are such a strong person, keep going!! 💪😘 P.S.: I've also never seen a man doing better push ups than you do honestly haha 👍🏻
i was literally about to look up how to get better at pushups when i scrolled down two videos and saw this. sometimes the youtube algorithm is random, and sometimes it reads your mind
I have been doing push ups against the wall for about a week. Today I moved to the kitchen counter after watching your video. I can feel the difference across my chest by implementing the incline change and change to my form after watching this video! I look forwardto decreasing my incline as I build my strength. Thanks for this great video!
I'm so glad I found your channel. I have always struggled with push ups and your explanations and instructions have helped a lot. I just did a push up workout using the fourth step on my staircase. I'm going to work my way down one step at a time until I get to the floor! Thank you so much, I'm excited to do push ups now!
I've been doing martial arts for years and could never understand why I struggled so much with push-ups, but these tips really helped me understand why I was doing them wrong and now they are so much easier!
I can't get my body off the ground as I do this exercise, it's like I'm lifting 10 bodies at the same time, and I always feel my shoulder a lot. I never could understand what I did wrong. Now, with your explanation, I know that my hands were ahead my chest and I wasn't grabbing the ground. Thank you very much. I can't do more than 2 but at least I'm not in pain.
My aim is to do one full push up off the ground. Once I get one under my belt I’ll push for two! I can currently do a half push up (can’t go all the way down) but after watching this I’m going to try and get my technique right be restarting with incline push ups until I’m ready!! Thanks for this and all your other tips, so helpful.
hoo boy, it's so good to come back to your channel! Your body-weight exercises absolutely saved me during the Covid lockdowns, and now I come back here and find how to fix my push-ups (something I was _just_ struggling with doing some strength training a couple days ago). When I tried them a week ago, I was _exactly_ like that first over-dramatized version: back arched, almost a cobra pose, to get my upper body up off the ground. But now? It's work, but I can do a few push-ups with a straight body, off my toes, just like I should. Thank you so much for all these tutorials! Please keep making them!
Could you please do a follow up video to this on Hand-stance for pushups. There are many variations and would be helpful to know which to use when. Thanks
This is another one of those moves I always took for granted! I sure learned a lot more about the "simple push up" from your video. Great stuff and as always, thank you Coach! (Nice thumbnail too!)👍
Thank you on all counts! Yes! I think so many of us don't fully appreciate the challenge of it until we force ourselves to use it properly! Sometimes we even need to regress to progress to start to build up those picture perfect reps! :-)
Thank you so much for these videos. I don't think my trainer knows these things. I am so sore but I bet if I take these ideas into account I will master this move. I am now 73 years old and when I was growing up it was discouraged for women to want to be physically strong. I am making up for that now. Thank you for your help. You are inspiring!
Thank you! Will correct my mind-body connection and look forward to results! BTW, you are always praised for this, so one more time ~ you have the BEST music! Excellent choices!
I absolutely loved this. Can’t wait to give it a try! As I gain strength in my upper body I could never understand why I could never do a push up. I’m super excited to try this steps and see my progression! Thanks a lot 😊

I actually strengthened my arms enough to reach the complete motion for a push up. I struggle at keeping my back straight, especially in the lower part :( (I'm gonna focus on driving back my heels as you suggested!)
Thank you, I have tried EVERYTHING, and just couldn't get a push up to save my life, resulting in knee pushups. I know this sounds crazy, but all the pep stuff especially pushing the feet back, pushing against the ground, and scapular movement made the difference! I got my first push up thanks to your guidance. Thank you
Thank you so much for the **details**! As a former music instructor I appreciate the importance of breaking things down into components. It also give me hope! I was never good at push-ups (phys. ed. high school teachers just don't have the expertise to describe these things adequately), and I haven't even attempted one in probably decades! However, starting from the wall is such a great tip and I'm feeling enthusiastic. Will report back!
Great tips for reminding us the importance of the lower body during a push-up! QUESTION: I have osteoarthritis and osteoporosis especially badly in my right wrist. It’s not good for me to put that pressure on all those little bones (and it hurts!). Any suggestions for a modification? Thank you in advance for your reply.
I have the same problem and the wrist positions for a push up kill me. I found a solution by putting two dumbbells side by side on my mat where my hands would be, and I grasp them as I do the push ups instead of having my hands flat on the mat. Game changer!
Quick question, though. My wrists are the weakest link in being able to master this exercise. Do you recommend specific wrist strengthening exercises prior to practicing pushups?
I just started an extreme sport in elite levels again after taking a four month break, this video has given me hope that I can get back to what I used to be and further

P.S.: I've also never seen a man doing better push ups than you do honestly haha 👍🏻
I can't do a push up ,like my shoulder blades just won't break . I am sticking with wall push ups now.
Love the new way of explaining each and every movement of the muscles in push up.
Holy shit, watching this compared to recent vids, your body has changed so much
How refreshing to hear someone speak and use the english language so beautifully. Great video
I've never heard these tips before, they are SO helpful - thank you!
i was literally about to look up how to get better at pushups when i scrolled down two videos and saw this. sometimes the youtube algorithm is random, and sometimes it reads your mind
Brilliant! My upper body has always been weak no matter what. Staying with the wall before moving on. Thank you!
gem geek I have the same problem! My arms are waaaayyyy too weak even my 9 years sister have stronger arms 😅😅😢😂
Thanks for the tips. I will implement them. I can just about do one push up, but I wanted to know how to do it efficiently. Now I know. TY.
I have been doing push ups against the wall for about a week. Today I moved to the kitchen counter after watching your video. I can feel the difference across my chest by implementing the incline change and change to my form after watching this video! I look forwardto decreasing my incline as I build my strength. Thanks for this great video!
I started on kitchen counter, and have moved to a combination of reps on a bench, and then a low step. How's it going for you?
❤️ that you explain each part of the move!!!! If only others did this- many would have less injuries and they would build up exercises to master moves
Jeannette Ryals FEWER injuries, please!
I'm so glad I found your channel. I have always struggled with push ups and your explanations and instructions have helped a lot. I just did a push up workout using the fourth step on my staircase. I'm going to work my way down one step at a time until I get to the floor! Thank you so much, I'm excited to do push ups now!
Great video! Thank you for the explanation. Doing the correct military push-up form is frustrating when you’re first starting out💯.
I've been doing martial arts for years and could never understand why I struggled so much with push-ups, but these tips really helped me understand why I was doing them wrong and now they are so much easier!
Like your clarity !!!
Thank you this is really helpful for someone like myself who never successfully completed a push-up in my entire life-yes never
Wow.. this was way more informative than I could've ever imagined
Your clear verbal explanation combined with the demonstrations make this a very effective video. Thank you!!
This is the most detailed, most helpful instructions for pressups I've ever had, including from personal trainers 😊
Glad it helps!
Thank you for this! I never thought of pushing off an incline rather than going from my knees!
Cori, You are absolutely amazing! I cannot thank you enough.
Thanks Leonia! Glad the video helps!
I tried to do planks and push-ups today and I couldn't. This video was very helpful! Thanks 👍
hoo boy, it's so good to come back to your channel!
Thanks
So you can use a variety based on needs and goals to change to what extent you activate muscles. Would for sure make a good video topic ;-)
@Redefining Strength: Very well said, Coach! 😄🙏
Rare type of "trainer". Most don't care or even pay any attention. I need you in my life.
Every workout ever: ENGAGE YOUR CORE! Me: wha- sounds painful
Omg girl same im always like um.. okay?😅
YES, and I say no to that kind of "engagement" 😅😅
Thank you! Will correct my mind-body connection and look forward to results!
BTW, you are always praised for this, so one more time ~ you have the BEST music! Excellent choices!
bahaha thanks Lisa!!
I absolutely loved this. Can’t wait to give it a try! As I gain strength in my upper body I could never understand why I could never do a push up. I’m super excited to try this steps and see my progression! Thanks a lot 😊
Hi
have been doing all of these for roughly 2 months and have honestly never felt better. I feel toned all the time and building muscle has become ridiculously easy
The absolute best explanation on how to properly do push-ups. I can barely do one or two without having issues.
I have never felt so weak and worthless again when I realized I can't do even one push up anymore and I want to cry .
I couldnt either
😟
That's okay! Start off easy with wall push ups and incline push ups. I can't do full push ups yet either but am getting there :)
@@rippingthestrings any improvement now
@@darktamilshorts9876 i can do a lot more push ups with better form - still not a full push up yet though :)
I actually strengthened my arms enough to reach the complete motion for a push up.
I struggle at keeping my back straight, especially in the lower part :(
(I'm gonna focus on driving back my heels as you suggested!)
Her biceps is to die for ❤🔥
Thank you, at last I am starting to do decent push-ups. The scapula movement is what it is all about for me; and I love your beautiful brown eyes!
Thank you
Awesome glad it helped 💪
Incrediblyy helpful tips. You sure do bring out some pretty impressive stuff.
Thanks!
Who is laying in the bed and watching
Me!
I'm on the bed not even made it in the bed yet 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Me
Me! Even though I do bodybuilding, there’s nothing wrong with a little R&R! 😂
Oml meee
Thank you for the info. I actually have been doing the incline as it’s easier for me. Thanks for sharing that absolutely cute doggie for us to enjoy.
Glad it helps! And Kiwi says you're welcome ;-P
I love push ups from my Army days!! Thanks for sharing the proper technique so we build up strength! Wonderful! #pushupsrock #upperarms
Great info. Would love for you to provide recommendations on reps and pacing to progress from inclined push ups to full push ups. Thanks!
I would use lower rep "skill work" to start and always make those 1-5 reps the hardest variations possible so that you're testing out lower inclines.
i was inspired to try to do a push up after this and GUYS!!!! i still couldn’t do it lmao
Hahahahaha 😆😆😆
0:58 I have only a chocolate BAR hopefully that’s ok 😅
I've never heard of using the incline to practice push-ups! Sounds like something I could try, thank you!
This really helped in just 1 day i could do pushups from this and i used to try doing it and fall while doing this i really recommend this
I wasn’t able to do a single push-up. Now I can do 5 half ones. Baby steps...
Wow! Awesome at least you can do! 💪
This will help me get to a better Chaturanga. Like for that pup--gaaaaa!
Karla Koebernick research how to do that properly...you can screw up your shoulder doing it wrong.
Lisa Johnson can you recommend a good video to look at for chaturanga pleasw?
Durham Girl Check out Jennilee Toner on You Tube - The perfect Chaturanga.
omgg the driving back through your heels helps so much. this is a great explanation, thank you
The most legit and complete push up guide. Kudos
Quick question, though. My wrists are the weakest link in being able to master this exercise. Do you recommend specific wrist strengthening exercises prior to practicing pushups?

Palak Chheda, thank you so much! I had looked through her videos for the answer and somehow I overlooked this one! 🙂
Sue Free I had a trainer recommend holding dumbbells instead of the ground. It really helped the wrist.
I kinda embarrassed because everyone in the school can do pushups but I can't. :/
RUclips knows I can't do push ups and it 's showing me how to master them. 😱
I just started an extreme sport in elite levels again after taking a four month break, this video has given me hope that I can get back to what I used to be and further
Best explanation of a pushup I have ever heard. Best I hear it again and again ...
