I am no longer a cave man, soon I will be making my own Clothes, thanks! You guys have given me the encouragement and support I need to replace my buttons with confidence!
It's true, I'm sure I could have pulled it off, but without doing to properly I know it would have looked askew in some way. Yeah, I second, I'm becoming less of a caveman as the days go by. Seriously, I don't think I'm much of a caveman because I remember on Home Ec. decades ago licking the fingers and twisting the thread so you could just pull down and wind up with a knot.
clear and to the point, thank you! just fixed a shirt that was in our "donate" pile. it's so good for the environment for people to know how to mend things to help keep clothing out of the landfill!
@@Mika-gu4hw the local thrift store we donate to does "bag of rags" with flawed fabric that people use for cleaning! they also sell jars of buttons. one lovely older woman's volunteer job is to remove all of the buttons and fill up donated jars for people to purchase! so the intent of donating the shirt there was less for someone to wear and more for the parts to still be used. it's back in the closet though at least for now! :)
For those who never sewn before just tie a double knot at at the very end of the string after threading it through the needle then trim it before proceeding to step one.
Worked like a charm the first time. Sewed 2 buttons on my shirt. I yanked and pulled on them harder than would ever happen in real life. They are on solid. Thank you! I think my mother taught me this over 50 years ago, but I had forgotten everything. The hardest part was threading the needle!
In spite of not understanding the double-knot thingy at the end and poking myself with the needle, I think I sewed the button on my shorts that have been buttonless for about a year! If my pants don't fall off, I'll know it was a success! Thanks!
Wow! I'm in my mid 50's and have been sewing since I was 7. I've never seen the technique of using a pin/toothpick when sewing on a button. This sounds much better than doing it without that "spacer". My buttons always ended up being too tight on the fabric.
I did well with this video on my very first attempt to sew anything! One good thing about RUclips how-to videos is that you can slow down the speed, pause, and also replay the video.
This makes it look so easy, but I always have a problem with the knot-tying, both the first one and the last one. My initial knots are usually never big enough, because it's hard to double that initial knot and get it lined up right.
someone once suggested to me to use a needle to "point" to where I want the knot to finish, and put it through the knot loop as you pull it, to make the knot nice and snug and line things up better. kind of like having someone put their finger down at the "bottom" of your knot to make it tighter. a little tricky to explain, but maybe something like that would help!
i realize your comment is year old but....fer your first knot, wrap the string around your index finger once then roll it off. thatll create a loose knot then just pull it tight.very easy.
Thanks. Helped me out. Haven't sewed a button but once in my life when I was like 10, it was horrible then, lol. All loose and unusable. Turned out great today!
thank you so much for this!!! i appreciate the simple step by step process alogside the visuals of each step, i'm still learning how to tie knots properly but this helped tremendously for a project i've been confused/stuck on for weeks! 😭✌️
I found this video helpful in explaining exactly how to do the knotting... ruclips.net/video/xNy9hLCl0NM/видео.htmlm7s . The whole thing is worth a watch too.
I'm a male in my mid 50's and have never sewed anything throughout my life. This is one thing that I thought I'd never have to do. However.....the button on my favorite pair of shorts came off. When I was younger, I'd just throw them away. No big deal, I'd just go buy another pair. But now....no.....I love those shorts and I ain't about to give them up. So I bought a small sewing repair kit. It's 9pm and I've been sitting on my couch looking at my shorts, then looking at the sewing repair kit. Back and forth for the past hour. (I'm trying really hard to work up enough nerves to grab the kit, grab my shorts and button and just DO IT!!) But I'm pretty sure they'll still be right where they are now, first thing in the morning. And I'll be ashamed of myself...lol...
Hey You! Yeah Im talking to you. Im soo freaking proud of you and you should too! either you did it or not, doesn't matter you tried Doing It By Yourself. And oh.. wait you dropped something down there...👇 👉👑

Ebraheem Fermas not really. made this name to fun around like saying DEMACIA! on any videos but realised I couldn't change my name again so I'm just staying with this. :(
Why do I feel so proud as a man from sewing a simple button on a shirt for the first time in my life?
Thank you for the tutorial!
Because you damn should soldier.
Relatable😂
Well sewing is hard. You should be proud of yourself. Hate sewing but had to just sew a button.

For sure sometimes its not about being thrifty or cheap its about doing our part for the earth
I guess you didn’t donate it after you fixed it! Lol the homeless aren’t good enough to wear a shirt with every button on it 😂😂

Excellent, easy to follow. Just put a button on my trousers, never attempted it before. Great result!
26 years of asking my mom or wife to fix my pants and shirts. Today I fix my own shirt. Thank! Very easy and took less than five minutes ^_^

thank you!
Don't suppose you could tell me how to tie it off after you're done sewing on the button? They did that step too fast for me to get
Thank you!
Very clear, although it would be clearer if you explained how to knot the thread at the beginning and do the double-knot at the end to secure it.
Not clear is it. It missed out 2 essential steps that need explain. Duffous
yeah, I agree. She didn't explain HOW to do the double-knot. That would have been nice.

This just helped me fix a button on one of my favorite dresses that’s just been laying in my repair pile forever! Thank you!
Yeah the double knot seems to be key and this slipped over it terribly.
Thank you. Was overseas when my favourite coat lost a button. I managed to sew it back on perfectly in the hotel room purely using this video.
another disaster averted! what's next? world hunger?
lol only joking!

Thank god you uploaded, I was using my legs all the time for it
I like how it took you 2 seconds to thread and knot the needle with no explanation, I gave up after an 45 minutes of attempting this, nice tutorial
Wow, the fact that you have the same shirt as my own is blew me
i.e. a blue cotton button up shirt?
