No sarcasm here: As a middle-aged male, I very much appreciate not only this helpful tutorial but the fact that you speak to me like a 4-year-old so I don't get frustrated and break things.
Yeah this lady is a goddess for speaking like she does, otherwise I would have thrown these shorts away because I was getting frustrated as shit. And when I say thrown them away I mean I'd have burn the bastard.

Now that she's old and unable to sew much, I really appreciate this type of tutorial. It brings me back but also makes me feel as capable as a bright little girl again. Thank you so much 💗

Thank you you're life saver! Prom is this weekend, and I haven't worn this vest since the beginning of the school year when I still would Wear my suit and trench-coat to cope with people leaving me. And the last time I wore it I lost another friend and angrily took off my vest and pulled the button clean off. But shortly after that I met this girl who gets me more than anyone I've ever met in a really long time, and I didn't feel like I needed the suit and trench-coat anymore, I didn't need to look good or be mysterious to feel "normal", or to stand out and hide at the same time. About a week ago I asked her to prom. I've never wanted to be a better person for anyone in the way I do for her, I asked her out in a traditional cheesy promposal which I'd never do, I made sure she was comfortable with going with me, I found a group and planned some things to help her enjoy the experience, like we're going to hang out with her family before so she doesn't feel like she's losing time or leaving anyone to be unseen or unnoticed. I asked my mom to make her a corsage, it's a dragon snap and teal flower silk corsage so that she could keep it forever, I'm not very good at making stuff like that lol. And I'm buying a seafoam bowtie so I can match my date, she loves teal, turquoise, and apparently seafoam. And I bought the tickets. It's not very evident because you don't know me personally but I wouldn't usually go this far for anyone. And I fixed my vest all by myself, well I guess not all by myself, cause I looked up how to fix a button, but I've never successfully done that before. She's my best friend, and I want to give her something as amazing as she is. And with your help I think I might be able to accomplish that. She's my favorite person in the whole world and she's special to me and because of you I'm gonna be able to make her feel genuinely special. Thank you!
Thank you SO MUCH for using the giant button! I can't believe I've procrastinated for weeks on fixing something that really takes less than 10 minutes. So helpful.
This was not done correctly - you need to create spacing between the button and fabric to add a shank that actually keeps the button elevated above the fabric. The procedure in this video just sews the button flush with the fabric - the shank does nothing when sewn this way.

Ms. Callahan thank you so much for this tutorial, I know its been 12 years since you uploaded it but I genuinely appreciate this. thirty year old male who just had to resew his work pants button back on. its so secure now it should last me a while!
Came here because I started getting into military surplus gear. You could teach the czech a thing or two on buttons haha. Simply amazing. Thank you for the help! Had a button on a sleeve fall off as soon as I pulled it from the box.
Merry Christmas and thanks for that great tutorial. Im a 57 year old guy, and the only thing Ive ever sewn just turned 22. I did manage to get this button on so tight it was hard to get through the button hole:) Thanks so much for the huge button also, I used my readers and a magnifying glass but got er done! :D
just sewed on my first button and am feeling super proud of myself after giving up on a few tutorials before I found yours. You're a great teacher! Thank you!
They taught me this in home economics and I’ve remembered this for nearly forty years! Thank you for solidifying that technique! But… I didn’t remember the knot at the end, so many thank yous!
I'm the type that just does things instead of reaching it. But after years with buttons falling off all the time, I finally pulled myself together and watched this video. I should have looked it up sooner. THANK YOU SO MUCH for teaching me how to finally do it right!
Somme years passed without a button falling off, until some days ago. I come again to this wonderful video for the xth time and not only I learn (again) how to sew, but have some laughs with the comments. Much respect for you Nicki.
I am a 58 year old man who just sewed on my first button thanks to your tutorial. My wife is very busy and I hate to aggravate her with doing it for me even though I know she would. I used to say that I think every man should learn to play an instrument, sing a little and dance. I think now I'm going to add sew on a button as well LOL.
The last time I tried to sew a button on clothing was in 1993. It didn't work out so well. Now some near 30 years later I need to do it again. I'm glad I didn't just try to figure it out. Thank goodness for RUclips. I speak for many grown men everywhere, Thank you!
Thanks so much Nicki! I have very bad hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills and I never learned how to sew growing up, but your explanation was clear enough that I could persevere and save my favorite dress shirt. You're a hero!

Dude literally. I didn’t want to have to buy new camies all cause one dumb ass button fell off. Sowing is an underrated skill
As one who spent 14 years in in Army, this is easily the most underrated comment here. So spot on. XD
I came here searching “Military Uniform Button” just to see if I could find something general and this is more than good enough.
For real!

LERNING TO HAND SEWING ON A BUTTON WITH DOLPHINGS N' SHIT
Hey man, everyone should know how to sew a button tho so if Dolphins are educational in that aspect then so be it. *-Dolphin noises-*
4 months after the first watch, I had to sew another button on a pair of pants. Sew glad I could watch this a second time! Thanks again!
Came here because I started getting into military surplus gear. You could teach the czech a thing or two on buttons haha. Simply amazing. Thank you for the help! Had a button on a sleeve fall off as soon as I pulled it from the box.
Nice video. Very informative. Maybe try not to sound so angry and condescending next time? Just a thought from another teacher.
Melissa Tse you’re probably not much better of a teacher because I think her voice was perfectly fine
I am 31 years old and my first attempt at sewing a button was successful thanks to this video! We'll see how it holds up in the wash!
just sewed on my first button and am feeling super proud of myself after giving up on a few tutorials before I found yours. You're a great teacher! Thank you!
They taught me this in home economics and I’ve remembered this for nearly forty years! Thank you for solidifying that technique! But… I didn’t remember the knot at the end, so many thank yous!
I still come back to this video to refresh my memory. It’s not that often I lose a button. When I do I enjoy seeing this again.
Many thanks for this video! I've been able to fix 2 buttons so far by watching this video. You saved me from going to the clothing repair store twice!
As a 44-year-old man, I cannot express enough how helpful this was.
Ah the Asian mom tone. Brings back memories for sure. Of all varieties....
Love this video though thank so much!!!
This video was so direct. Felt like I was in class for a minute. Thank you so much!!
This was extremely helpful. The fact that you sounded like Harley Quinn just helped me pay even more attention. Thank you so much!!
29yr old woman & I just made my thrifted blazer functional! THANK YOU
