    Thanks! My resewn pants buttons used to always come off eventually. I was tying the knot through the button and not using needle to keep a gap between button and pants. This guy feels confident now!

    took me half an hour to thread the needle, making me quite mad, broke down a few times, but putting the button on was quite easy

      Google "needle threader". I am willing to argue that without it, some needles are simply impossible to thread.

    Thank you so much, Christina! I really appreciated your friendly and easy-to-follow instructions. I looked online and discovered that I could use a bobby pin to substitute for a darning needle, as I only had one needle size available. And, I also learned what a shank was (besides the stabby kind). My boyfriend's pants are as good as new! Thanks for teaching me a new skill :)

      @@DasAntiNaziBroetchen...this was 6 years ago. I didn't mean it as a gender role thing. He didn't demand I fix it or anything...he asked if I could. I was embarrassed because I feel like basic sewing should be a skill that any person should know as an adult.
      I ask him to help me with things all the time...it's a balance.

      @@Ebenezer456 ...I don't know how many buttons, but I do know that I have picked up a sewing needle a lot more than I ever thought I would back then! Mostly fixing stuffed animals and holes in shirts. Also, yes I am still with him. Will be celebrating nine years next month.

    OK so i just finished re-building a set of diesel car injectors and that was easier than sewing a button on a pair of shorts. 🤣That said I got there in the end so thanks lady 👍

    A figure 8 knot gives the knot a bit more bulk so it doesn't pull through thinner fabric when you're starting.

    Seems like quality instructions, but I would need more detailed ones. Like why the knot at the beginning, is that the start of the thread or do I leave it for the tail, how and when do I do the loops and such.

    The reason my button always falls off is when I reach down my pants to scratch my taint area I tend to pull back to much. This causes the button to fly off.

    Instructions unclear, somehow the button lost all the thread, fell out, and the needle, despite being tied to the string, still managed to escape the string. Yall I don't think sewing is my thing I just rolled a nat 1 irl.

    My thinking is if somebody is inexperienced enough to go on RUclips to lookup how to sew a button on pants they know NOTHING .... so even the very first step of tying a knott was confusing and even how to thread a needle should have been explained way more slowly like you are talking to a total imbicile like me!!... thanks for the effort though!

    Single guy here, just sewed my first button back on my pants. Used 4 stitches per side plus about 6 loops of the shank. Assuming the knot holds at the end, I think it will stay put. We'll see how it hold up in a real world test in a couple days.

    Is sewing a button on MALE dress pants different because of the penis? So, if a woman were to wear men's trousers you could sew a button on the pant the same as one would for a woman since, although they are men's trousers, no penis is involved? Please let me know, I won't be able to sleep or cross-dress until I know for certain. Oh, what if the person wearing the trousers is transgender.... or a male stripper who would need to remove them quickly?
