Really enjoyed your video James. Showing your BTS on how you achieved your backdrop look has triggered ideas of how I could adapt some of these principles myself when working on a budget. Thank you!

Wonderful discussion about the idea and build behind this backdrop built. My experience is that artistic and talented people are willing to share their ideas and don't worry about competition since they constantly inovate.

Love this mindset! Great stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The community love is awesome. I really love that you guys are paying it forward. It makes me feel better because now I want to try this, but I am on a much tighter budget and I don't have all the lights you do so I will have to figure something out and I'll share how I do it.
You don't necessarily need all the lights and there are def some lower cost alternatives to get started!
LOVE THIS ... I love when photographer share info .. thanks to you and John for this great idea and wonderful spirt .. I'm a subscriber for life now lol :)
Welcome aboard, MK! Thanks!

So happy I came across your channel as I've been hoping to get into this type of Photography. I've definitely been inspired by this set up and would love to try it. Subscribing to this channel. Looking forward to more content all the way from Ireland 🇮🇪
Thanks, Joe! Let's meet up in a pub someday!
@@QuantzPhoto pints of Guinness are on me 🤝
I was considering using this setup for a HS basketball shoot. I use Godox 400AD for most of my shoots now, but have 4 Paul buff Einsteins. Could I get by with using godox by using the godox 400AD (enough power) or would I get better results using the Einsteins?
💥💥 You’re really awesome, James. and just so humble. No wonder why you’re so successful. Definitely gave it a 👍🏼 I’m stealing all of your info and I’m going out to shoot the NY Giants…. (As soon as they call me)…. 🤣
Subscribed, liked and many thanks!
Awesome, thanks for the support!
Thank you both, really great state of mind and great skills to share. God bless you
I'm looking for some inspiration and i'm serve with your instagram and john's too.
Thank you for the kind words!
Hi James! Would you consider using other material than the gatorfoam? It's pretty much impossible to get it in Mexico and I've run out of ideas of other materials to use. ThanksQ
Love this!! I was wondering if the white diffusion material you have linked is still the same material you used for this shoot? I am looking to purchase it and wanted to make sure I am getting the right thing.
These shots are amazing. Do you think the concept would work with some V-Flats?
Hey do you think this would work with v-flats. I couldn’t find a supplier in my area for the gator board?
I finally cut mines. I'm excited. Now just have to add the diffuser and I'm ready to go
Awesome! I hope it goes well!
I cut it with jigsaw thank you again. I will give you a shout out when I take a picture with it.
How do you keep it together when it's standing?
Where did you get your foam if you don’t mind my asking, I’ve been searching and can’t seem to find anything this size
So awesome! Thank you for sharing! Can you suggest a supplier on foam core or was it a local place you utilized?
Hey Kevin, because of the size of the board I had to source locally.
Was browsing on Instagram and realized one of your pictures was featured on BoardroomU for a Zia Cooke feature!!
Nice! She had a amazing game last night
Hello James… I watched you got the first time today, and I’m highly impressed! Btw, if like to thank you for telling us about your V-shaped backdrop. I’d like to purchase one, would you please tell me (us), where you bought your boards! Like you, I’d rather have them do the cuts! You have a new sub… I’ll be watching you and I’m going to share you with a good friend, that’s a photographer as well! Thanks!!!
LOVE this! Where did you buy the black Vflat from?
Hey James, I also became a Patron and would love to know what white things that are holding it up? B/c I had some made like this and they arrived today, and it looks like it needs some stability to stand up and support. Any help today would be very much appreciated! . Also, how did you stand it up on it's own?
Thank you for this! I will pay it forward. Do you think reflective strips would work and glow as well?
Hey Alison, I don't think they would but you're welcome to prove me wrong!
Do you ever run into your shadow created by the 7' umbrella behind you when you use that as part of your setup?
Hey James! What kind of continuous lighting fixture would be comparable to the output of the strobes you used to light from behind? I'm considering building this for an upcoming media day but we are filming rather than photoghraphing and I'm wondering what kind of lights we would need to get to have a similar output? Two Aputure 600d's? 1200d's? Curious to hear your thoughts and thanks for making this awesome video :)
As much power as you can get! Another reason why I came up with the prolightmods.com idea since they're more compact and utilize the same backlighting principle.
This was GREAT!!! just curious as to how you got that smoke look.
Thanks! I used a product called atmosphere aerosol - amzn.to/3vAzdwQ
Hey mate, thanks for the inspiration. But I can't really understand which material the walls are out of. I searched for big cardboards but it is not so stabil. Did you paint it black or was it black already? Thanks a lot and keep going! Greets from Germany!
Over here it is caller "GatorFoam" and it is a foam core product. It comes in white or black. Hope you can find it there!
@@QuantzPhoto Thanks. Found it :)
I saw that background on tv yesterday with the Seattle Storm WNBA team. Were any of you involved with the photoshoot? I might have to build my own one day. Thanks for providing the insight and background story. Great video!
Saw that too, and nope....😩🤣
Are those foam boards a one time use thing or are you able to save them? I feel like you'd have to be suuper careful when transporting for breaking but also scratching up and denting
We saved them but you do need to be careful!
When I first saw this I thought it was reflective tape, but you went for a much more difficulty option.
John Gress said he'd blasted two 1200w strobes paired with softboxes behind the backdrop, at full power. It seems the 500w output delivered by your profotos were sufficient to reach an f8 stop down....
Am I missing something where you got the gaterboard? Love this idea. Thanks for all the info
Any sign company should have it.
I always think James is gonna say "Roll that beautiful bean footage" like the guy from the bean commercials....
🤣
Thank you for this! Can you tell me where to get the Gator board and your booms! I don't see links for these.
Hey Michelle, the booms are linked on my "Bringing the Boom" video(I guess I should add them here too!). Check local sign shops in your area for the Gator Foam.
Congratulations on a great channel. I just stumbled into it. Where do you get your foam core for your 8ft VFlats acá for this backdrop?
I got them from a commercial sign company - thanks!
@@QuantzPhoto thanks! I've been meaning to make a custom one.
Are silver umbrellas the only way to go or is there another modifier that could work?
I’m sure plenty of other modifiers would work. You could also use multiple lights if needed. This was a situation that was time sensitive so I needed to use something that could work for both setups.
Who did you order the order gator foam board from to where you could actually request cuts to be made to a specification?
Check your local sign companies.
Which kind of boards did you use?
Which supplier did you order this through? I'm having a hard time finding these boards not in bulk, and the places I find them individually don't seem to have an option for custom cutting.
Look for a commercial sign company.
do you have a link to that boom arm? That thing looks so much more user friendly than my boom.
nvm just found the video about it.
What are your measurements for the board? Trying to find a board big enough for track pictures.
I'm pretty sure I have it in the video but they're 4'x8'
From top of the foam board. Where did you make the first cut? Two feet down?
I believe so
💥 Hey James. Could you kindly tell me how you attached these two 4x8 boards together in the middle.??
Black Gaffers tape on the outside!
Made me think, one could cut a logo into backdrop and shoot light thru that. Gotta test it!
Yes you could!
Where did you get the foam core
Why do you use the westcott and not the profoto umbrellas
From a local supplier and I use Westcott because they are less expensive and really nice.
Awesome content!!! Where can I find the 4x8 foam boards?
Thanks! You will probably have to try and source them local like I had to do.
@@QuantzPhoto I'm not sure where to start looking and what to ask for...
This is what I have been looking for!!! May I ask what company was used for the boards?
Hey Brandy, this was a couple years ago and they aren't doing it anymore. You can find a local sign shop and they should be able to help you out!
