Not only great info, but entertaining as hell. I literally laughed out loud when you were interacting with the gimbal.
Haha, thanks Jakub!
Like no joke hahahaha
Every time I watch a video of yours, I just want that boom more and more
#BoomLife! Haha
Me too.... its still in my cart.. just waiting on me to press that button.. The struggle is real.. My concern is will it fit in my studio.
@@MsSpokenvoiceYeah me too! Could you tell me where I could buy a similar one?
I also loved the gimbal!
Ha, thank you!
The gimbal sequence made me laugh out loud.
Great ideas for dance and cheer
Thanks Karl, been a while since I did that one!
Great Video, and I think everyone laughed out loud at the "Pixar “ style gimble interaction. Keep them coming.
Thanks, Kermit! I probably should've included some of the bloopers....haha
Great Video. I loved the interaction with the gimbal camera. Real Cute.
Thank you!
Ok, you get style points for intro and outro with the camera rig. 👏
I try!! 🤣
Awesome video. How about a video on how you edit big group shots 😃
Noted!
I bought the 2 sheets of gator board to make the background. I'm so excited. Going to try cutting it on a CNC machine to have it exact.
That is awesome! Good luck!
@@QuantzPhotoIs there a video on how you made or what the product is?
I am just so so happy with the content, can't help myself not thinking of subscribing
🙏
James you are a genius man👍👍
hey James, just found your channel and I’m so glad I did! Thank you for your transparency, speaks volumes when a photographer show their tricks of the trade. Subbed!
Awesome, thank you!
this was great! would love to see more about your action shot lighting setups.
Thanks! Hopefully I'll have some more soon!
Gimbal Guy made for a fun change up 😅😉😃
🤣
Sad I will miss this live.... can’t wait for the replay.
Sorry Kathleen but it’s not going anywhere! 🙏🙏
Great professional useful staff. Thanks for sharing !
Thanks for watching!
OK... The Gimbal thing was cute as hell.... PERFECTLY executed.
Haha, appreciate that Deaqon!
Thank you for sharing!
My pleasure!
Love it, great stuff man. Thank you!!
You bet! Thanks for watching!
Wow, another great video. Thanks for showing us all of your setup. Educational and entertaining at the same time. 👍❤️✌️
Thanks for your support Camilo!!
you looking at the camera on the gimbal is to funny!!
AWESOME WORK... AND (SO WANT YOUR GEAR!!!)
Ha, I guess I better and another lock to the studio door! 🤣
Fantastic channel, so glad I found it! It’s great to see how you set up and capture your dramatic images. I would be curious to see how you meter one or a couple of your set ups. Thanks for sharing, I see great things for your presence on RUclips.
Thanks, Darrell!
These are fabulous tutorials!
Thanks so much!
Love seeing your lighting setups, thank for sharing! And I also like your new little friend. Can you list what boom stands you use?
Check my “bring the boom” video!
Really love your style and lighting. Could you do another one on group shootings like this one?
Sure, the next time I get the chance!
Thanks
Welcome
Enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing! :)
Thanks for watching!
Great content as always!! ❤️
Thank you for watching!!
Can you discuss light ratios for the setup #1. the large rim umbrellas. Red reflectors. Front fill. And key light. Thanks for everything.
There was really not a "set" ratio due to group size, arrangement, skin tones, etc.. The best way to figure it out is to practice to find out what works best. Good thing we aren't shooting film!
@@QuantzPhoto thank you! Film😂 . I remember those days
I notice you usually use a black background, is that the easiest color to cutout the subject from the background? You're work is awesome, thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Hey Chuck, it really just depends on how the subjects are lit and what the final use is going to be.
Can’t thank you enough James, these set breakup videos are so helpful... for the last setup, the now famous black with stripe backdrop how is the subject lit front the front. Is there a fill light or just the octa in the front (apart from the 7 footers in the back)?
Thanks, Ali! It's just the boomed octa - too much fill would ruin the contrast!
GIMBAL!
😂
Hopefully you'll see this but what is that black glossy floor piece they are on? Where did you get it? Thanks for these videos as well!
Just saw the video where you said it was black acrylic. Now I have to find it
Love the video, what’s the gimbals name? Lol. I would love to know how you setup the lights regarding power settings.
Haha, we haven't made it that far! Settings varied for each setup and many other variables so I'm wary of putting that out there because I don't want someone to try the same thing and not get the same results - which would open anther can of worms!
These videos are so helpful!! For photos with items held out (football, pom pom, pointing finger), what camera settings do you use to keep everything in focus?
Hey Karen, that's where you need to make a creative decision on what needs to be in focus. Also the further you move away from the subject the more you can keep everything in focus. I generally concentrate on the player!
@@QuantzPhoto That makes sense, thank you! Do you typically shoot in AV or TV (or other setting) if you have a plain white or black background?
I'm usually in Manual!
So amazing! Going to experiment with this idea soon! Not sure if you can share, but curious as to how much you charge your clients for a shoot like this?
Good luck!
How does it feel to be a total badass? Asking for a friend.
You're silly, John, silly! Haha
Can you share information on the boom you're using?
Hey Ed, check out my "Bring the Boom" video!
thanks for the great instructional vids .what brand are those booms?
Cambo makes them - I also have a full video on the booms if you check out my videos library
I sure have enjoyed your videos since I subscribed a month or so ago. Maybe you or a viewer could answer this question. When using a backdrop as your black cloth one, how do you deal with the subject that sometimes falls outside the dimension of the backdrop? I imagine you extract the subjects for use otherwise but what if you wanted them all to be in front of the backdrop. Obviously the focal length plays a big part also. thanks for the time you spend sharing your knowledge with viewers.
Hey Ted, you might have to make a selection around them and then fill in with the backdrop color. No big deal, just a couple more steps.
In your intro, the cheerleader dancing - did you shoot at HSS to freeze their movement or was it at sync speed?
Strobe flash duration speed!
Best video!!! 🤣🤣
Thank you!
Great video. Where’d you find the acrylic sheet?
Thanks! I had to search for a local supplier.
I have never seen you shoot with a green backdrop.
That's because I don't! 🤷♂️
what is used on the floor?
Greetings from R2D2;)
😂😂😂
Can you drop a link to the spray fog you are using. I looked for one on Amazon.. but it had mixed reviews. Thanks for all your help!
I just added it to the links in description!
That snap...lol, loved it and I love your work! What size umbrella did you use as the side/rim lights - was it the 43"?
...maybe it was the 7'? I was looking at strip lights but really like the mobility of the umbrellas! Do you have any issue with flare using the umbrellas?
Hey Julie, those are the 7' umbrellas! Depending on space you could experience some flare. To help you can get the diffusion material to go over them which also softens the light a little. Umbrellas are def easy to deal with but it just depends on what look you're wanting.
@@QuantzPhoto thank you for the response! I will be doing HS Senior Cheer portraits (indoors) then doing an outside group session. I'll be creating their senior banners from those images and the outdoor stuff is for the yearbook...just in case the season is shortened even more than it already has been :-(. I may go ahead and get the strip boxes with grids, set them up and carry them in to save time. I do have one 7' umbrella in white but know the room I'll be in isn't very large. Now if I could just get my R5 in hand before the shoot, I'll be set...but I'm not holding my breath!
Try CanonUSA for the R5 they have been getting them out pretty regularly
@@QuantzPhoto I ordered from Adorama months ago and the date keeps changing. They're now saying it will ship the first week of Nov...we shall see.🤞 I almost cancelled and went with CanonUSA, but they couldn't give me a straight answer, so I kept my order with Adorama. I guess with camera concerns, pandemic problems, and shipping slow downs they don't want to guarantee/promise anything and that makes sense. It will be okay. 😊
Thanks James! Is the link to the book listed and I missed it? What is the setup time on your boom stand?
Hey Jay, check my "bring the boom" video and you'll see links in the description. Setup is very quick!
@@QuantzPhoto doing now! Thanks James! I have competition cheer next week, can’t wait to try some of your methods out!
Would like to know MR. Quantz did you have to use v flats to block any flair from the two large umbrellas you used for the rim lighting ?
Don't believe so.
@@QuantzPhoto were they Parabolic umbrellas ?
the black acrylic floor doesn't break went they step on it
No, it's a 1/4" thick
where did you get your black floor from?
Local supplier for black acrylic
Can you please tell me where can I get a boom like the one you are using?
Cambo Boom Arm:

Mathews Rolling Stand - I went back and looked at the exact stand I ordered:

Awesome, thanks a lot!
What were the dimensions on your black acrylic?
4’x8’
never seen that type of boom before can you inform on it.
Check my "Bringing the Boom" video!
@@QuantzPhoto Thx
Why is the gimbal jittering so bad?
It's being controlled by the phone in my other hand....too much coffee maybe??!!
Gamecocks.. 🤔
Yessir!
Terrible music
