I just love the chickens. Never realized before how extensive their vocabulary is and how much they try to talk to you.
I think it's bad because of their fowl language. Hahahahaha

Martjin, as a cinematographer, I can't help but feel your filmmaking skills and efforts deserve more recognition. It would be incredibly inspiring to hear about your process in finding the perfect camera angles and framing to tell your story. Your filmmaking and construction work are equally admirable. Please consider sharing insights with us someday. Thank you for bringing such inspiration and humility into my life

I started usually my Sundays just the same way...though it's still too cold to sit on balcony yet, but soon. 😊 I am preparing it ready and putting violas ready...other flowers have to waite because there are frosty nights coming this week...hopefully for the last time. The power of water is frightening sometimes, but your hike along the River was probably the most beautiful I've seen on your show so far. It's so nice to see you taking care of yourself by embracing nature around you. All around you are vibrant and lush scenes; no wonder you seem so content with the life you have chosen. And I must say, those two chickens have more character than I've ever seen in chickens! On top of all your talents and skills, you're even thoughtful towards your chickens. What a pleasure to watch such kindness. Thank you for sharing your days with us.
I cried when I heard the sound of the Cuckoo bird, reminded me of life back home in England. It's a bird that doesn't reside in the country I now live in. For that I thank you, for todays episode.
I love hearing the cuckoo, I would love to see it
@@joycegronenthal2560 Joyce, I spent the first 33 years of my life in England, the cuckoo was to the most beautiful sound of all birds, it was the first sign of spring...sadly I never saw one.
My home backs onto farmland here in Warwickshire, haven't heard a cuckoo here in the last seven or eight years. Hedgerow depletion by the farmers and overuse of pesticides. Crows no longer classed as vermin so can't be shot - result they move close to the houses and kill all the small birds in their nests. Stewards of the countryside ????
Cuckoos sadly rarely heard now in England, excessive tearing down of wildlife areas has destroyed some natural habitat, they forget that birds & animals need homes too..
In Holland we say - the sound of the cuckoo means rain tomorrow..
Great episode, as usual, with fine carpentry, faithful and affectionate chicken interlude, and your mentioning the background growl of the river. Thank you for that because it brought back a dim and almost forgotten memory of when I worked in Yellowstone National Park during the summers. There, like your Alpine 'roar', the Firehole river played a constant rumble in the background on a daily basis to where you almost didn't hear it anymore. It was when we went out of the park for shopping or whatever that you noticed it being no longer there and you couldn't wait to get back to its constant song. It's enticing and being away from it for 62 years it still sings in the depths of my memories. And you brought it back to me with this episode and I am eternally grateful. Thank you.
We love you, and with all our hearts wishing you all the best. Thank you for these wonderful moments. Say hi to your best and true chicken friends! ❤👏🐔❤

Dear Martijn I am so amazed how much those little chickens follow you around, they’re like little dogs. You are truly a good man and although I dont eat much chicken this makes me not want to eat it at all. They are so attached to you and I expect you are attached to them. God bless you x
I kept pet chickens for many years and love them!! They all had individual characters, particular friends, special places: one always came and sat on my knee when I sat in the garden to have my morning coffee. At night several sat with their wings over their neighbour and I used to stand and listen to them chatting as they fell asleep. such mistreated and undervalued animals.
I love how the chickens follow you around. Such a rich and peaceful life you have. Thank you for sharing your journey with all of us.
The rain is no fun, but it is the best news of all. It makes our world green.

Thanks for mentioning the name of that movie....I couldn't place it.
Also recognized the accents before seeing what he was watching. My father was Bert Monroe's best friend and fellow mechanic.
I thought it might have been Spotswood (The Efficiency Expert) 1992 with Anthony Hopkins, Ben Mendelshon, Toni Collette, and Russell Crowe, but I think you are right, Anthony Hopkins seems a bit older
that's fantastic! I saw this movie with my son thanks to the recommendation of my dad. A great story!

I love your rainy day projects! Can't wait to see the bedroom all finished.
Perhaps consider making a long 18"×16' iron firewood rack with iron support bars every 12" to 18" so it can easily bear the weight, to keep the firewood off of the ground and just mere inches away from the stone wall of your amazing home. This aids in preventing insect infestation, rodent habitation, etc..
My father did this and it served him well for the remainder of his life. My brother lives there now and it is still serving his family well.
I also find that wooden door so beautiful, warm, and inviting to look at. What a wonderful find and piece of work.
I am so moved by your love and care for your chickens. I, too, have hens. Besides giving me eggs for meals, they actually enjoy my company, follow me around, and talk to me. Such awesome little creatures.

Thank you for allowing us to follow, explore, and vicariously dream of other pathways to live. Looking forward to the warmer weather and the friends it brings your way to keep moving forward.
GLAD YOU DECIDED TO DO WITHOUT THE EXTRA TRIM . IT LOOKS MUCH NICER. HERE'S A TIP. BUY FEW PIECES OF DOWEL ROD AND CUT THEM TO SIZE TO MAKE YOUR SCREW HOLE PLUGS. IT WILL BE EASIER AND FASTER TO DO WITH LESS SANDING TOO. THE PANELING LOOKS FANTASTIC.
Martijn has a special way of living. How adorable to see the chickens following him
How very nice to sit there in the morning sun with breakfast and hear the river. Your chickens, well their just to cool. Have a blessed week.
Loved hearing the cuckoo bird and seeing how the chickens followed you back to the roost. Adorable.
You have done beautiful work on the panels. I have learned something helpful with the pegging. Like you, I would always wipe away the excess glue with my finger. But I was shown a better way, to let the glue extrusions dry untouched. They then easily come off with a flat chisel and require little sanding. The risk with wiping comes from the likelihood of the glue staining the surrounding wood from a smear. And you don't notice it until you put down stain, further complicating the job of removal. A valuable lesson. Bedtime is such a pleasant moment after a long day. When you lay down your head, gazing around at that magnificent firewall, the stone and the panels, you heart must brim with satisfaction and comfort. You have made home so beautifully. Much love ❤️
A similar issue if you mix glue with sawdust for hole filling - it makes for a “permanent” colour
Your stone walls are just so beautiful. All that hard work pointing and cleaning has paid off so much! More chickens are needed! Ooof, about time for gardening. Get some cucumbers going on a trellis this year.

I agree with @sahlaamorris. I have watched this channel since the beginning. It is by far my favorite RUclips channel; hands down. I realize now that the channel is not about the Italian Alps, a creative artist / photographer, an antique house restorer or a world traveler and documentarian. It is about a man and his chickens. He has made these adoreable chickens into media stars. They follow Martijn around like puppies, they talk to him and the evoke such emotion!!!! This channel has everything: drama, evocotive landscape, the strong silent lead man and most of all his adoring chickens LOL !!!!!! Keep it up; I love it Martijn.
