I can never stop watching Futurama content. The series is truly timeless.

Now that's ironic
10yrs ago I was 21 and had just got fired, had to move back home with my mom who had just lost her job herself and we had a hard couple months. During that time we cut off our cable to save money. I spent almost a year with my small movie collection annnd my Futurama season 3 & 4 on dvd. I watched the seasons over and over again lol. I now watch it on my Hulu app but it still surprises me that I have seen these episodes literally hundreds of times and I still watch them now and it's one of my favorite shows when I need a comfort show on the tv lol

“I know what name you wanna give him, Yancy. It’s okay.”
The reveal in Luck of the Fryrish was so expertly punctuated and wouldn’t be what it was if it weren’t for Yancy’s wife. Just the fact that the writers let us know that *she* knew how much Fry meant to Yancy gives more weight to who Yancy was and how much Fry’s disappearance affected those he left behind. God I love this show.
That brings a tear to my eye. The most heartstirring episode, dare I say moment, for me in the entire series.
I still think "Luck of the Fry-Rish" hits harder than Seymors story, but both ripped my heart out as a kid

They honestly should’ve let him do what he wanted considering how successful The Simpsons was.
Interesting how Fry's early relationship with Leela only succeeds when he's being someone he's not. The beneficial parasites making him smart, the "autopilot" Fry that takes over during time skips and of course the Devil's hands.
Kinda reminds me of an ex who liked me best when I had my ADHD medicated.... I couldn't stay on it for medical reasons and it really hurt to feel like she only liked me when I was on medication that I couldn't stay on long term

"Kif Get's Knocked Up a Notch," is criminally underrated IMO. The first act is a joke factory running at max efficiency. Also it gave us the word "smizmar."
Technically “Raging Bender”was the first episode to introduce us to smizmars, the fight announcer says it.

With Futurama it also makes more sense since it's mostly episodic.
Omg yes I’d love to watch that.
The futuristic aesthetic works sooo well. The mix between sci-fi / retro makes it timeless, it's clever but it's not constantly diving attention to itself. Most of the gags work decades later, after multiple rewatchs. It becomes it's own aesthetic and not a mash up of parody and references that would date it.
The ending quote to Godfellas was my senior quote in high school. Almost 10 years later it is still to this day, a saying I live my life by
which one?
@@RustyRants Possibly could be. "When you do something right, people can never tell." something like that.
You can't just dismiss where the buggalo roam. It is a big kif and Amy episode and also it shows her family dynamic and explains a lot of her personality. Plus the whole buggalo concept is awesome. I want one. And zoidberg is actually pretty funny in this one
I've been watching Futurama ever since I was about 8 years old, and have always loved its more emotional episodes. It's actually crazy how much they resonate, as just 3 second clips from both The Luck of The Fryrish, and The Sting, genuinely made me cry. What a fantastic series Futurama was. Thanks for all of your amazing videos on the show :)
27:26 You literally taking the context out of a otherwise funny scene by deeming it "Homophobic". Grow a pair, or is that considered "Transphobic" now?
My editor chose that clip and I should have swapped it for something different, even though it works well visually. It isn’t a homophobic joke in context. I wish I had caught it and swapped the clip.
But your “or is that considered transphobic now” comment doesn’t rly make you look good here lol
Yea I hate when these videos have woke takes on good episodes on adult cartoons
So is your entire audience gonna be de-legitimised then? You seem to only be responding to people you disagree with which seems to be a LOT of people.
I doubt the show was transphobic or homophobic. Rather, it was trying to protect those groups.
27:29 Idk if I'd consider that to be homophobia, the main joke is that Fry doesn't want his "grandpa" to be gay, because that would mean that he wouldn't exist
I actually agree with you about that episode, but for a very short clip that visually aids what I was saying, I think my editor made a smart choice haha
@@Johnny2Cellos Ouch. On the other video you posted, what the hell do you mean "But not before the damage has already been done?!"
I was about to make the exact same argument just to get it out there but was worried nobody would read it. It's good to see that Johnny already read my comment 6 months before I wrote it and even agrees!
@@Johnny2Cellos Wrong. Your editor did not make a smart choice to side you with Twitter. Especially if you own the fact here that it wasnt "homophobic" it was adding backing to Frys desire to exist, a focal plot point of the episode.
I grew up with Futurama as a whole, and am Pansexual. I never took any offence to anything, including the supposed "liking men bad" 3 second gag with Frys grandfather thing you showcased. I am also Native American and never got upset about the Martians.
You need to stop being so sensitive, if you like a dated piece of television like Futurama, especially the older version of it, you need to learn to keep your modern sensibilities checked at the door.
Or do you want more episodes like the Eyephone and Susan Boil thing? As a member of the LGBTQ, please stop getting offended for us, let US make that distinction. Taking a SJW stance just depowers the people that have the right to get offended.
If I can use Monty Python as a stance for a lot of my inspiration for acting and comedy as a whole without being offended, you can like Futurama without going full "this joke bad".
Notifications are off on this one, I want you to learn from this comment, not here to debate an SJW.
@@trollking6315 spit king 👑
i always love that part when bender confuses fry's heart for his ass
21:19 As a Navajo myself, come on dude, chill. You say "Where the Buggalo Roam" is offensive, lazy, and not that funny, but to my sensibilities it was one of the funniest episodes, and I was never offended at all. You wouldn't believe the humor we natives play out at our own expense, and that includes making fun of native stereotypes. I don't know why people think natives are so sensitive. Oppressed and historically abused, sure. Impoverished to third-world levels, absolutely. But don't white-knight us just because you never talked to an actual native to figure out what depictions we find offensive.
Futurama created a meaningful allegory with the Native Martians, the buggalo, the "bead," the Wongs, and their casinos. Amy even returns ownership of one of her parents' casinos to the Martians in the episode "Viva Mars Vegas." It was a well-intentioned but misguided gesture from Amy, and the Martians express as much in the episode, but that's how the relationship has always been between Native Americans and people of European descent. Meanwhile, you call the writing in "Buggalo" offensive, presumably because (1) you assume natives find it problematic, and (2) pointing it out is a gesture of what you believe is good faith. But to my eyes, it's another misguided gesture.
To be clear, I'm a big fan of your video essays, Johnny, including this one. Don't change. I'm not trying to make you feel bad, but there are just so few natives out there to set the record straight, and you deserve to hear it.
I appreciate you conveying your feelings and perspective, but I absolutely do not appreciate the assumptions about my own intentions and actions.
My perspective on this literally stems from talking to or listening to native people I know here in my industry, writing/media/tv/production, and the issues they have with problematic portrayals of natives in media. It's an issue I hear about a lot because I work in media.
As I'm sure you know, groups of people are not a monolith, so while this might be how you as a native feel about these portrayals, I'm sure you would also acknowledge that it isn't how everyone feels, and it's weird to tell me that I'm making assumptions while you, in turn, are making assumptions.
Nowhere in my video did I speak FOR natives, I was not offended on their behalf, I cited what I felt to be problematic portrayals based on my own research and experience. You are absolutely allowed to feel differently, but please don't make these kinds of public assumptions about my intentions or my life.
@@Johnny2Cellos : Agreed. I made assumptions about your intentions, and I ought not to have. However, call me uncreative, but there aren't a whole lot of other conclusions for me to draw when you call the episode offensive without specifying why and to whom. What exactly about "Where the Buggalo Roam" was offensive/problematic, and to whom? I wouldn't have commented if you addressed those bits, even if I disagreed.
Your point that cultural groups are not monoliths is well received, and indeed appreciated. That said, I've been steeped in this population my whole life, and the people around me get offended not by bad representation, but by the removal of agency that we experience when outside groups tell us what we supposedly think -- like how the word "Indian" is somehow offensive, despite essentially all of us embracing it with pride.
Your goal was never to dictate the feelings of others, obviously. I just want to convey that, from my perspective, I get triggered when non-natives tell me what is and isn't good representation.
I acknowledge that natives are frequently portrayed as caricatures, almost as if they're extinct. But not every caricature is offensive. That only happens when the caricature diminishes what/whom it's portraying, and I just don't see that in Futurama. To the contrary, I enjoy the inclusiveness. After all, were Italians offended by the Cygnoids in "A Leela of Her Own"? Did Indians (from India) find the Antarians in "Attack of the Killer App" problematic? Maybe, though I doubt it.
But I could be wrong! That's why I'm asking what you found problematic about the episode. I'm not discounting the issues held by the natives you've worked with. Natives get a raw deal in most media, but what was it in Futurama?
I'm willing to bet there's a video essay premise in here somewhere.
Lastly, I want to reiterate, because it's so easy to succumb to the toxicity of internet anonymity, that I'm a fan, and I respect you, Johnny.
I hear you, and again I appreciate your perspective greatly.
I didn't want to dwell too much on the negative in an already very long video, and I did discuss this episode and its representation on my podcast. Here's what I felt came off as harmful in my eyes.
The episode obviously uses the Native Martians as a parallel to Native Americans, only on Mars, with the Wongs having seemingly scammed them out of their land. Again another parallel to native displacement in the US. But in the end, the solution is basically that the Native Martians learn that they had actually been traded an incredibly valuable diamond, and not been scammed out of their land at all.
From my POV, this solution is what creates the problems, because it implies that A) The natives were not intelligent enough to realize that they had received something actually valuable in the trade, and B) That they were never actually wronged, they had gotten a fair deal for their land
Which I think, if you transpose back to its origins as a Native American parallel, is a problematic solution in the episode.
Obviously the use of stereotypes themselves can be debated, and not everyone is going to find them harmful. I do think that media, when portraying natives, should make more of an effort to cast native actors in these roles. They clearly just used Billy West and other on staff VAs to play the natives, where as a show like King of the Hill has always had a Native American actor playing John Redcorn. This isn't necessarily a stereotype issue obviously, but more of a representation issue
@@Johnny2Cellos : I respect that interpretation. It's more well thought out than mine, and it holds up to deeper scrutiny.
After further consideration, my personal suggestion would be, in future, to use the word "problematic" and not "offensive." The latter implies, however unintentionally, that it's your issue to get offended about. The former, "problematic," is something you can easily back up with concise reasoning, as you've just done. If nothing else, it'll spare you the ire of pedants like myself.
Have a good one, sir~
That's a good distinction and I appreciate your comment a lot!
29:00 What i love the most about that scene is at the end as the holophone versions of fry and Leela walk into the distance his playing become better showing that he improving and if he continues he can become something similar to the “robot devil’s hand’s” version
Honestly, I love every single era of Futurama. Despite the occasional poorly-aged episode, the original run is fantastic. The movies, especially BBS offered some of the funniest and most emotional highs in the series. S6 may have experienced a rocky start since the writers at the time hadn't written for the show in 7 years but I thought S7 was a great return to form.
The only episode I don't like and have trouble watching during a binge is Neutopia, season 6 episode 20. It's such a character killer and has barely any redeeming substance. But the fact that there's only one episode I skip out of dislike is pretty amazing and speaks to how good Futurama is
@@ssunsspott Yeah for me, that episode would have to be 'Attack of the Killer App' from S6. Despite giving us the best Futurama meme 'Shut up and take my money!" and a decent satire on consumerism, everything involving Susan Boil feels ripped straight out of a modern Simpsons or Family Guy episode and it isn't fun to watch.
That's enough rambling from me today!
@@ssunsspott I second that. Neutopia felt like Rule 63 fan-fiction crossed with an episode of a bad 1950s sitcom.
I barely remember any episodes after the movies and I've watched them all twice.
Nothing in Futurama has really aged poorly though. It all still holds up today.
I've always had a thing for Futurama. I've always liked Fry's happy-go-lucky attitude. And of course everybody's trash-talking beer guzzling robot bender. And I like how they made Amie a klutz you usually don't see the type of humor in these types of productions when it comes down to female characters.
Dumb klutzy valley girl was literally a trope that existed in media for decades. What are you talking about?
@@KhayJayArt Amy isnt dumb shes the professors apprentice also later down the series becomes a doctor herself. Shes more of an airhead so she is kinda a spin on that trope at the time
@@shybie2798 Klutz doesn't equate being dumb.
Amy is essentially what Daphne turned into for Scooby Doo Be Cool and I loved it!
Why if you making joke about trans it is considered transphobic, but if you making joke about literally everything else it's fine?
Right?
You didn’t like “Mars University”???!!! That’s one of my favorite episodes of the entire run.
It's just lower on my season 1 list, there aren't many episodes in the original run that I actively dislike
I loved Mars university aswell
God I hate when people use the word "problematic" to describe opinions or representations they don't like. What problem is being created? Wrong think?
The Bend her epsiode was not "transphobic". Bender cheated at the games and then they played with men and woman stereotypes. This guy is way to easy to offend.
The "politically correctness" supertficial takes spoil everything.
Agreed, it kicks me out of an otherwise well made video.
I physically groan and roll my eyes whenever I hear words like problematic.
Bend her is hilarious. Stop taking it seriously it's a fucking show and comedy ugh I hate this crap. Equality means having to deal with offensive and inappropriate jokes.
There is no such thing and an appropriate joke that's why it's called a joke.
It's that mentality why comedy is dying. Either it's all on or none of it is. There is no Grey area it's straight up black and white
I know its part of the final video, but even though Jurassic Bark was crushing. The single biggest gut punch in the show, and arguably one of the biggest ones ever in TV for me is the end of Season 7 episode Game of Tones. It was entirely unexpected and still immediately breaks me.
We're whalers on the moon. She was like I never knew astronauts were so fat and Fry was like he's not an astronaut and he was just using space travel as a metaphor for beating his wife.
Bang! Zoom! Straight, to the moon!
Omg u can't make fun of trans and gays. It's not funny omg
you can make fun of anybody you just have to actually be funny and not reinforce harmful stereotypes that hurt people
@@Johnny2Cellos OK I have to say it. Stereotypes - especially in the context of an obvious joke - are not "harmful", and their mere existence does not "hurt" people. Fists and bullets hurt people. Vibrating air molecules do not, and you and every child whose mother ever rightly taught them "sticks and stones..." know that. Stop with the Newspeak.
Bend Her isn't even transphobic or misogynistic. There are a lot of jokes about sex stereotypes, but nothing particularly controversial, even by today's standards. And the episode is actually very accepting of the idea of transsexualism. The characters just don't like the fact that Bender used his sex change operation and relationship with Calculon purely for personal gain.
I feel like you are letting your opinion of this episode be coloured by modern taboos, rather than any serious objection to its content. It's a shame, because it's a great episode.
Bend-her is a Simpsons like prediction of the woman weight lifter from new Zealand
Nothing I hate more people complaining about stereotypes in cartoons and comedy. I'm Italian you know how many racist horrible stereotypes Italians deal with

19:30 I was around 19 or 20 when I first saw this episode. I’m 34 now. Bender’s whistling as the scene fades out still haunts me to this day when I hear it. Such a great episode.
Well I suppose it depends on what kind of humor you like that will say what episodes you feel did or didn't age well... I personally feel that gender bender episode was funny 😹 and it definitely aged well
It did age well Johnny 2 Cellos is just wants to cry abt everything, he calls everything h0mophobic, r@cist, and s3xist, so he can get points in the twitter community. Nobody should be untouchable in comedy, otherwise it’s hypocritical.
Its super transphobic and spread a lot of hate about trans people, so definitely aged poorly

The space bee episode is the one and only "It was all a dream" reveals that does not piss off the viewer. Usually such plots are handled as extremely outlandish BS going on that makes no sense, only explained by "it was a dream none of that happened!"
Instead, a lot of it did happen but Leela perceived it differently. Which is why when they revealed that twist instead of leela just going bananas i cried rather than yelled "Oh are you ****ing kidding me!?" at the end.
As much as I love Futurama I wouldn't ever want another season. It ended perfectly
Imo, if matt groening said he would be open to bringing futurama back, its probably a good idea
Hopefully the episode Otherwise ends the show beautifully once again.
What I love about the Why of Fry is that both Nibbler and Fry are correct. One life compared to billions of lives is a pretty easy choice to make, but that one person would have a right to be upset
I was born on 14 March 1999, Futurama was first aired on 28 March 1999
One of my favorite episodes from their first run on TV is, Roswell that ends well.
I seriously can’t agree more those 4 seasons I loved way more than the Simpsons even before the movies were even brought up. Please do the Comedy Central years as I watch all of the series again. Thank you
"She flies like a Steakhouses but handles like a bistro." Possibly my favourite home in the series.
"Differences between men and women humor that didn't age well."
It aged fine. It's just that now people berate each other over anything regarding gender.
I disagree with you about that episode not aging well. It captured perfectly exactly what is happening now. Men who were failures in their sports are now beating women and even setting records in women's sports. Being against cheating is not phobic or dated.
Spoken like someone who's never played a single sport before.
@kalebk9595 you make no sense. I have played plenty of sports. But my favorite was kickboxing. And at the gym I trained at I always tried to avoid sparring with women. But one time my trainer asked me to spar with a female he was training for a fight. I held back and took it easy on her. But she weaved whan she should have ducked and even though I pulled my punch she had moved her own head right into mt glove. Lights out for her. I felt so bad. Never sparred with a female again after that. YOU sound like you have never played any REAL sports. Either wise you'd know the difference between men and women.
Fantastic analysis! Tho I was never offended by Bend Her, or Fry’s Uncle thing. I cannot speak for everyone. But I took those episodes at face value and found them hilarious
'The Sting' definitely scarred me for a few months when I first watched it. I was most likely 9 or 10 and I was anxious of everything lol
I was 9 or 10 when it premiered*
"The Sting" is one of my favorite episodes, part of this is definitely due to the fact that, Fry kept Leela alive. She came so close plenty of times to taking the 3rd spoon of honey, the spoon that would make her sleep forever/kill her. It's just impactful that we could've seen our favorite cyclops slip away.
13:44 Did by any chance you have re-record that line because you got "popular" and "poppler" mixed up? Lol
When Bender changed sex for winning a competion was pretty hilarious.
this show was one of the best ending for a series ever. truly masterful
I’m sort of surprised (but not really) bc I don’t see bendher as transphobic I see it as not only a funny commentary especially for bender for people (specifically men) who couldn’t cut it in their division so they become a woman and enter their divisions and beat them easily but also those who transition and then regret it
I didn't really find the Martian jokes or the bend-her episodes offensive. Stereotypes yeah but many stereotypes are based in truth to some extent. It only becomes a problem when people turn those stereotypes into fact or use it to dehumanize and or belittle people. I don't think anyone watched Futurama and thought: "Oh Native Americans only have casinos? That's so cool!" Like people aren't that dumb. And if someone did come to that conclusion, their most likely a messed up person to begin with.
Of course jokes can be made out of malice, but I highly doubt the creators and most of the show's viewers genuinely hate gay or trans people. Most people have good intentions. Assuming the worst in people is neither healthy or productive.
The Golden Era had the Top 3 tear jerkers
300 big boys is my comfort episode, and i think the sting has become one of my favorite emotional episodes, its so hauntingly beautiful.
A Tale of Two Santas was the first episode I ever watched. It introduced me to the word "crap".
bend her is hilarious
And now it’s getting rebooted again
When I’m on Disney plus the way the episodes are grouped in terms of seasons is very different to how it’s grouped on Wikipedia: it’s very inconvenient when I try and search for a particular episode
Yeah streaming generally has everything in broadcast order
Its just as awful with American dad lmao
i really dont understand how everything is up for comedic digs accept the people who are most sensitive in society. You could argue that some things arent accurate representations, but isn't the point of making a dig at something that its inherently hyperbolic? Theres plenty of other reasons to like or dislike an episode and i kind of feel like not liking something because its PC is a little pretentious
“ENJOY THE TOUR, DUDES!!”
……I’m gonna go lie down.
That part will never not be funny 🤣🤣🤣
I never knew Phil Hartman was supposed to be Zapp, but now that I do all I can think of is how perfect he would have been! Such a tragic loss of comedy and talent ripped away from this world far too soon. 😔
It's actually why (in the meta, at least) Fry's first name is Philip. They named their lead character after Phil Hartman as a tribute.
@27:30 I never saw that as homophobic, the way I saw it is that Fry didn’t want his grandfather to be gay because if he was then he wouldn’t marry Fry’s grandmother and thus wouldn’t exist as a result (or so he thought)
That’s correct, my editor chose that clip and I missed it in the notes
Writing off whole episodes because of 'problematic' portrayals is so soft
*If it taaaaakes foreverrr...*
I think my biggest gripe with this show is that later on they think bender was more funny than he actually was. Sure he's a jerk but they never really stop and becomes a drag for a bit. Other than that the show is just amazing
Yeah I like Leeila's Home World to. I also like how they played the song Baby Love Child by Pizzicata 5 at the end.
This show is just so clever with its scientific references. You come for the Simpsons-esque humor but you stay for what weird sci-fi premises the writers will come up with.
For me Futurama is one of those rare shows that was great it's entire run. It's final finale was perfect and I wouldn't want any more of the show because I think it ended on the perfect note. I'm glad it didn't run for countless seasons and lose its charm like the Simpsons. So while the first few seasons may be the golden era to some, the entire series feels like that to me
the CC seasons are underrated, but it definitely should not get revived
Sometimes I wonder if Fox jerking their chain helped or hindered it.
I would love more futurama but I know very well that something can outstay its welcome and grow boring.
Dude a joke is a joke!
This video made me cry like 5 times which is just a testament to how strong the early run of this show actually was.
To this day, I see a single still image of Seymour and I tear up. By about ten minutes into this video, my vision was blurry from all the water. It just hits the emotional strings. So. Damn. Well.
even as as a Die-Hard Simpsons fan I've always have a soft spot for Futurama and always LOVED Futurama even from the FOX Era to the straight to DVD Movies to the Comedy Central revival it always made me laugh from it's sci-fyi adventures and characters
Lmao everytime an episode has "homophobic" or "transphobic" or a minority group is the butt of the joke, you say its not a good episode, its lazy writing and that it didnt age well. I wanna see you do videos on South Park, your head must explode when you watch it lol.
You reaching way too hard to be offended on behalf of others, Johnny.
Fuck I just strained my eyes from rolling them so hard
I agree with Johnny’s take for the same reasons. It’s also not a great episode compared to the others. But you got to understand if creators don’t make those asides people will attack or question them for not acknowledging those issues much in the same way you’re calling him out for bringing them up.
@@doubleplusdanny I'm all for capitalism, but kowtowing to bad faith actors requires a lack of ethics.

I'd suggest having more conversations with people you disagree with. It's enlightening.
@@ryanclark3935 This has nothing to do with which economic philosophy you like, but that’s nice. I don’t think he’s kowtowing, he’s being genuine. But you missed my point. If he doesn’t bring it up he might get called out by some people and if he does bring it up people like you will do just the same. There’s no way to win but I’m sure he’d rather have people like you pissed at him because it’s so easy to laugh it off.
I liked this review until you said less than a hero was “Decent” like it’s one of my favourite
Episodes
Well now that I think about at least Johnny didn’t think it was bad
It’s weird to say but I never got into the Simpsons I was always a Futurama guy and from what I can say about his new show I like the story’s of the characters and how it presents itself I always though you could see more feeling through it
As they always stay in a loop as Futurama forward
Watching the sting high on ketamine was something else
Just because I'm currently an emotional wreck that recently rewatched Futurama again with my fiancee, I want to say that the show not only had heart but the most realistic understanding of emotion and tragedy. I say this as someone who lost his brother prematurely several years ago and I can't help but cry with Luck of the Fryrish. Life goes on and it can go on pretty normally as shown with the flashbacks throughout the episode but the ending with Yancy talking about how he misses his brother everyday despite the world still moving and framing the drawing Fry made reminds me of how I kept all the comics my brother drew as a kid and how I have his favorite stuffed animal on the mantle above the TV of the new home my fiancee and I bought.
And on the other side, this is the first look at Fry's past that he was always portrayed as happy leaving behind and showing it wasn't as bad as perception made it, which I can understand as well as someone who lived with depression his whole life and never felt I fit in with even my own family until looking at the games my brother and I created and played.
I love you, Tyler, and I miss you everyday
I can never stop watching Futurama content. The series is truly timeless.
There is nothing wrong with Bend Her. Sorry you think Bender being Bender is transphobic.
That’s a really flimsy understanding of why the episode is a problem!
its not transphobic. its just funny
Nah, it’s transphobic and not very funny
@@edenengland1883 no it really doesn't
Bendin’ in the Wind is my favorite episode. The 3rd run is the best batch of episodes IMO
as a trans person (from what i remember at least) bend-her isn't that bad, It shows someone doing something selfish (bender transitioning to win awards) and not thinking about how hard going through that process would be in the long term, doesn't think about how selfish it is, and doesn't think about all the other issues that happen with just him (her in this episode i guess) emotional wise. All of these issues were more or less talked about in the episode and blame was put right on bender where it belongs. That and side note they actually respect bender in a way by calling him her and using female pronouns even if in his/her case (again not sure which to use) they weren't really transgender at all and were just using it. On top of all of this the issue of trans people in sports is a topic still talked about today. I just don't think its that bad of an episode, maybe not great but not bad
Interesting! Thanks for the perspective. There are other aspects you may be forgetting that are worth a rewatch. They are particularly grossed out by Bender dating Calculon which comes across as very homophobic as well. It’s a weird episode
@@Johnny2Cellos oh wow hey lol and yeah I'm probably forgetting a good bit, I just wanted to say that it didn't seem bad from what I remembered :) and i hope you dont think i was just being critical or hating the video or anything like that, I love your videos ^-^ just thought it would be interesting to share a bit is all. That and a lot of the homophobic stuff is sadly kind of common, as in when you come out people can have a ton of negative reactions to you being who you are but can sometimes work past it, I'll need to watch the episode again though, it's been a long time lol
I appreciate the comment sincerely, especially perspective from someone in the trans community who has experiences I can't have!
@@Johnny2Cellosbro ur so weird, a trans person says something wasn’t offensive and you say they must be forgetting things, you just can’t admit when ur wrong and overly offended? ur so stubborn n full of urself. You think it’s impossible to not be right.
Don't hate on the Snu Snu episode. That episode still has me using lines irl. XD
I make friends when the other person smiles with that grin.
_Snu Snu_ snickers lol
@@tyler4418 nah we all know ur just trying to be edgy for the sake of being edgy
The Bend Her episode is a great episode since it showed what would happen in the future with transgender athletes and has been pretty spot on.
Thank you sooo much for letting us know you're leftist, I hope you're masters are satisfied. Reminds me of that Stewie G song... "Estsblishment...establishment..."
These comments are always filled with grammatical errors what a weird coincidence
Ok, good review of it all. It c’mon, really getting offended at the Indian portrayals or transgender. It’s all done as jokes. The wongs were a joke about the settlers who didn’t care, I don’t see you butt hurt about that. The transgender episode is about a guy wanting to fake being a woman to win medals. I think that’s more relevant than ever. Not someone who actually wants to transition, but someone who is using it as a tool. You don’t have to be offended for others…
That transgender bender episode is what today is though lol it’s aged well
Am I the only person that thinks bend her is hilarious
Don’t worry, not everyone is offended by this type of humor. Only those chasing clout.
When Fry angrily folds the male centerfold in the calendar to reveal the female this is NOT transphobic. Fry does this because if his grandfather is gay, he'll never have a child with his grandmother (in Fry's mind, at least...), and therefore Fry will never exist. Having said that, Bend Her is the worst episode, is transphobic AND misogynistic, and I also skip over it.
It’s not transphobic at all, no. But the joke itself, of him sternly turning the calendar back, is mildly homophobic. Despite his character motivation having a good reason in the story, the moment itself is a repetition of a fairly old trope.
@@KCKingdomCreateGreatTrekAgain because "a man pretending to be a woman to win at sports" is actually a terrible transphobic talking point that has no backing. Its gross and its still being used to this day.
@@StagFiesta "transphobic talking point" is an interesting way to dismiss valid concerns that are voiced.
At that point in the vid he said transphobic (showing Bend Her which it 100% is btw I agree with you on that) and homophobic (showing that scene in Roswell that Ends Well). He was refering to the calendar moment as homophobic not transphobic. That said in context I wouldn't call it that bad as Fry is trying to ensure he continues to exist so finding out that his "grandfather" is gay would put a wrench in that.
@@treborkroy5280 Trans women don't actually have more testosterone than cis women
Smooth add transition cello-man.
Futurama has made absolute history, one of the reasons i like it!!!
If you watch the pilot, there is a frame that shows a shadow that looks like Nibbler underneath the table
War is the H-Word is my absolutely favorite episode. I have watched it probably over 20 times and still can't help but laugh at the jokes.
War is hell
As for the episodes you find so much disgust for I genuinely don’t see it, there’s a way to make trans and gay jokes without being hateful as someone who’s both trans and in a poly I think I have some room to talk on this.
He’s just one of those people who thinks mentioning a trans person or a woman in a joke makes it transphobic or sexist.
Exactly. Even trans people and gay people can relate to those episodes, just like in South Park. And it was not like there were LOADS of these episodes anyway.
