When #8 doesn’t have the distance to spread out (like in a house), it’s mass has a LOT of energy. Short of body armor maybe, I’d use small birdshot for home defense no problem.
I have a 410 as a home defense with 00 buckshot. My friends always give me a hard time about only having a 410 for defense but after seeing what the bird shot out of a 12 gauge did im confident.
I also have a judge public defender. Wouldn't hesitate to use it for home defense within 10 yards at all. Especially hornady critical defense 410 ammo.
The Winchester PDX shot.. look at that pattern. Now picture that pattern hitting somebody in center mass. God damn. I have several boxes of PDX ammo that I've had for quite some time now. I have practice with it over the years at different distances. It stays very well grouped for about 25 yards. After that it spreads out real real fast. Right now in my ar12 I have a slug load out and I have a magnum buckshot load out. Five of each per mag. From defense, typically I would use either my 9 mm or my Mossberg 590. The 590 has low recoil buckshot in it. Where I live there's no safe direction to really shoot at an intruder and miss.
I'm using #8 for my HD 12 gauge. My apartment is small, and there are people living in every direction, so a miss with a slug or buckshot might not be the best option for that situation. I know some might say, "Well don't miss, practice more, blah...blah...blah". The fact and probability is that it could happen, especially under extreme duress. I'd rather mitigate any collateral damage, whether mine or someone else's. So, #8 should do the job. I'm looking at it like, who wants to get shot? Who wants broken bones, like ribs, or a broken sternum, clavicle, arm, etc.? I'm assuming broken bones will ruin the day of anyone. Also, getting hit dead center in the chest with a round or two of #8 will be devastating at close ranges of 7-10 feet, and for psychological reasons should end the fight. If it doesn't there's a few more left. I'm guessing one or two will do. There's a few left for more than one intruder as well. Imagine, if Mike Tyson could get one clean shot on you in his prime? Would he put your lights out in one punch? Probably, and a shotgun blast with #8 is 10 fold (not mathematically figured), nonetheless it will put a BG down. As a side note to anyone assuming I'm trying to just wound, no I will be going for lethal results, and a #8 should incapacitate the threat lethally. The pellets are held tightly in the wad at close ranges, so it will be a large mass of approximately 500 grains. A 500 grain hunk of lead isn't something to sneeze at.

Not really. You want more penetration than that. Look up a channel called brobee223, and you will see what is suitable and why. Most slugs are designed for small east coast deer, and don't penetrate well. Hard alloy solid body slugs are good for bears, but your standard 1 oz slug from the local store is almost certainly a soft alloy foster which turns into a doughnut and quickly stops a small animal.

I’d like to know who the 41 people are that didn’t like this video. Did they read the title? Did they expect him to juggle chainsaws? Good video!
Probably democrats
Juggling chainsaws while shooting a door would be cool too
@@jasonslabaugh5783 Definitely democrats, however, l bet they would make good targets.
Yes I want to see the juggling chainsaws while shooting a door too!! That definitely would be an awesome video ! 😂
Scott wilson: 😂 Democratic Targets 🤣
Nicely done!!! Thank you for this demonstration of door vs shotgun loads?
What is a point of a metal door when 90% of American houses are build of cardboard like materials???
XDDD true
I've use #6 heavy field loads in my home defense shotgun because I don't want over penetration into the neighbor's condo or into another room of my home.
On a side note: you should get into 2019 door designs.
I couldn't help think an ewok was going to come out of the background at some point.
That would be awesome. It does look like the forest they lived in.😂
#4 birdshot is the way to go for home defense
Defiantly a heavy enough shot to do the job.
What is your distance from the door??? What shotgun choke are you using?? All good questions as they drastically effect the performance of your shotgun rounds....Anyway interesting video which I did enjoy... Thank you
I have never seen a low brass buckshot before. FYI: #4 birdshot is available in 3" 1400 fps, 1 1/4 oz and it is deadly. Ounces, not grains!
That double aught slug was awesome.
I might start using it for deer hunting. We can use slugs and buck shot here.
Good video but you never did say how far from the door you stood
Had the same thought; by counting his steps in the last segment of the Video pretty near 25 to 30 ft.
What state? The woods look rly cool
Washington state. The Great Pacific Northwest
MasterCraft Menard's Doors a Spit Ball Can Dent! I Shot a Old. 68 Suburban Hood at 20 yard's and The Double Auto Bounced off after leaving a Good Side Dent!
I have my Rockisland VR60 with a 20 round drum mag full of #3 shot. I think that should be good enough for any two legged threat, if that don't do it I have a KEL- TEC KSG with 8 00 buck in one tube and one in the pipe and 7 slugs in the other tube, and if that don't work I have a Saiga 12 with a 20 round drum mag full of #3 shot, and if that don't work I'll pull out the Glock 19x with a 50 round drum and 2 19 round and 1 17 round mags full of Federal HST 147 +p, if that don't work I'll grab the Glock 29 gen4 10mm with 8 15 round mags full of 180 gr.V-crown, if that don't work I'll get my 556 and a mountain of loaded 30-40 round mags...Ok I'll stop hear, this could go on for an hour or two. I could fill someone so full of lead it would take a crain to lift them out of my house if all the bullets stayed in them..😂😂
So much more fun shooting at this than paper targets. Number 2 steel waterfall at 1600 feet per second would have gone right through.
Guy at the gunstore sold me 00buck for home defense..I live in a townhouse..that shit will literally go thru my neighbors wall..I need to get some birdshot after seeing what it can do
I got my kel tek KSG loaded with 24 rounds of the Agelia mini buck shot 7 pellet. I wouldn't even have to open the door I could use walkthrough the massave hole after that.
So much for safety behind a metal door. Cover and concealment are two different things. What distance were you shooting at?? Some years ago I shot my Taurus 16.5" barreled .22 magnum M72 into an old metal 50 gal drum at about ten feet and solid points went clean thru the front as though the hole was drilled. The hole on the back side had a huge dent around it. Sure is fun shootin' stuff ain't it?? Nice video sir.
I keep 5 slugs followed by 3 "00" payloads racked up in my 12 pump
I'd be interested to see #4 shot in the exact same spot 2 shots I bet most of the bbs would penatrate
You expect major damage from bu k and slugs but bird shot is frickin mean too.
yeah, now go put your door back on the house, lol
...or act least save it a Halloween prank l:D
I like it when the person videoing is not talking to be seen sweet vid
When science is fun
GOD BLESS AMERICA
How can anyone NOT like this video??? Demonstrating various 12 gauge ammo and having fun doing it! Good job.
Thank you Rex! It was a lot of fun doing this video!
Wouldn't wanna get hit with anything going several hundred feet per second. Not even sand.
Peter Torres sand rash!
Dude, you had me at # 8 and # 4....stopped video in first 2 minutes! Liked & sub
Thank you Bucket List, I appreciate it!!
Thank you sir for taking the time and buying the ammo to post this video it's always interesting to see I have similar loads to test what it would do so it was informative thank you I would like for you to err on the side of caution even though there's two of you out there and I know you guys know what you're doing don't leave your weapon with your ammo I got a couple of scary stories but it doesn't matter because each and every one of us are individuals I'm not trying to be rude or belittle it's just something I'm always aware of on the Range no matter how many people are there alright Brothers fight the good fight keep your barrels warm and your powder dry !
Your a mad man!!😣
Bird shots nasty at closer ranges, perfect for home defense.
No
beautyfull forest , where is it ?
You look and sound a little like Tom Arnold, Funny! I also like "what shotguns have to offer" Yeah, hot fast lead!
This was a fun video!
Funny! I've never been told that about the likes of Tom Arnold, but I too now can see this a bit! Glad you enjoyed my video. It sure was a blast shooting...I mean "testing" my old door! The next video was after over 100 rounds of birdshot met my poor door... so much fun!!
+Micahmania greetings from UK England Essex you Americans sure knows how to have fun I subscribed 👍🐾🐺🔫
Thanks for the Sub. I bet you guys have fun in UK England too! Yes I have a ton of fun at my range!
Thank you for taking the time to record this demonstration, sir!
I always use a shotgun whenever I go hunting doors in the woods
Never knew there was a 1oz slug with 00 buck!! Would this be the ammo of choice in Alaska in grizzly bear country
Hey, I'm missing a door on my shed.
What state are you in. Pretty property
IdiotBoxProductionsTV Thank You, I love it out here in Southwest Washington. The Pacific Northwest is a beautiful area! I have a lot of fun out here on our range!!
Get a face full of that birdshot it will ruin your day
You could try shooting further than 8yards
Was that the distance he was shooting from? That's about the farthest distance I was concerned about.
That was actually pretty cool and interesting.
StraightPipe C60 Thanks StraitPipe! I thought I would take advantage of utilizing our “old” front door and make a educational 😂 video out of it!
Awesome shooting, What distance were you shooting from, TY
John C. About 10 yards
Micahmania TY for Replying, Looking for a shot gun for the home, Not to expensive. And what would be the best type of shells to use for home defense, TY Again
@@jcsgaragejohnc.5027 I think if you are considering a shotgun for home defense, I would get a pump shotgun. Just that sound of a pump shot gun loading alone can be quite intimidating and may detour a home intruder. I personally would use birdshot, you are less likely to miss and it would mess them up very bad.
Micahmania Sorry to bother you again, last question. 12 gauge okay
@@jcsgaragejohnc.5027 Definitely!
Should have did a cutshell!
Good video. This is exactly what I did to my old doors, too. lol
Good video😏
The older OO buck was awesome blowing a nice hole in a door and taking out the door knob and bolt lock.
Done it many times...
You have some beautifull property nice range
jack mcminn Thank You Jack! I love it up there!
Wow. Just came across this video. As always a shotgun with any ammunition is going to eliminate Any Problem....
Should have shot several birdshots in the same spot and see what happens
Check out the video after this one. Over 100 rounds of bird shot destroying a metal door!
You should steel T shot , it will Swiss cheese a 55gal drum
Seems #4 bird shot is perfect for home defense.
Yes bird shot it no joke, especially #4 and larger. Sure, given the choice, I’d take buck shot to defend my home. But I’m a pinch I wouldn’t hesitate to use my larger bird shot to ruin an attacker’s day and face.
