Its so hard to find a perfect medium between being big enough to win physical battles but it doesnt affect your agility too much. I play in england and its very physical here.
If Im being honest when it comes to agility, acceleration, and speed drills and even weight exercises, i train according to like NFL wide receiver training, just because, how its stop and go, switching direction and top speed stuff, which can all be implemented in soccer
@@overtimeathletes YES, HE REPLIED.. and definitely would work, with the changes of direction, just beautiful, hopefully one day i will be able to train with you guys
I love all of your videos Coach. I have purchased many of your programs simply for the education. As a basketball skills and performance coach, I have had many players from other sports come to me for performance and strength training. Your videos and programs contain some of the best information and guidance out there and they have helped me immensely when it comes to designing and programming for athletes in sports that I'm less familiar with. Thank you! Keep up the great work.
I def agree with a lot of assessments in this video. As a soccer coach I def advice my players to seek strength training to prevent injuries and such. The most important part of your training is the soccer drill you gonna do to help you incorporate those things in your game because when you out there playing mainly you gonna be running cutting jumping and passing the ball a lot. So when you train make sure all those things are in your drills. Good work as alway.
cant wait to see what you bring for this. my 13yo daughter has just finished her season (hete in new Zealand) and would love to get her into some specific off season training
OTA love the video but what lifts and plyo ect need to be specific about the strength and linear speed power what lifts what exercises exactly good knowing but what exercises exactly
fantastic! I really appreciate your professionalism, waiting for you to have experience, rather than relying on theoryblike so many coaches and you youtube fitness channels.
Soccer is changing. The common thinking was that soccer athlete should remain supple and agile. Soccer athlete should train in a similar manner to WR. Power, strength, agility take a higher president over the skill of the player. This guy is spot on.
the difference with your judgement is WR only cover 1-2km max per game day. Soccer players now cover over 10-12km per game with nearly 1-3km at high intensities. Power, its rare to see soccer players with a Vert over 34in but in WR 35 is like low for elite elite. Strength its rare for soccer players to bench 1.5x+, squat 2x+ and deadlift 2.5x+ but then WR would bench 2x, squat 2.5x and deadlift 3.0x
This is good stuff. Every agility drill that I do linear, multi-directional, etc I do first 3-5 sets without the ball then I do with the ball. This has worked best for me.
When should all the athletic abilities trained beside the regular teamtraining? And how about the loadmanagement? Most pro teams train between one and two times a day plus matches at the weekend. Were is the time for all that? And what does a faster and stronger athlete bring to the table if he still runs at the wrong moment and in the wrong direction? whouldn‘t it be better if the player could make better decisions and could execute his decisions better (position, moment, direction and speed)? All that is trained in a soocer session, not in the gym…
Thank you so much for your content! So thankful for every soccer/football specific video of you! Another video I would love to see: A full body workout routine for In-Season (soccer/futbol/football)
Good stuff! I have a lot of similar videos on my channel for sports performance, specifically for soccer strength, soccer power, agility, acceleration, etc. I played soccer all my life, going D1 for college, and now I have my own sports performance company which trains a lot of soccer players. The 2 sports that mimic soccer the best training wise are football and basketball, both of which I've seen great results from!
Do you have any own material or video / channel on RUclips to indicate? How do you relate basketball training to soccer? I play futsal and I see similarities with basketball.
I think I’ll buy your soccer program. Is it accessible with phone? Right now I only have access to the internet, only from my smartphone. Could I use this program with efficiency on a smartphone? Thanks for these videos, they’re really helpful!
Hi Chris I’m a soccer player from Argentina. I’ve been training for strenght consistently during quarantine and I got to 140 kg. squats for 5 reps. (I also pull sumo, do RDL,s single leg squats and plyos) My weight is 80 kg. Is absolute strenght a little bit less important for soccer than for other sports like football or hockey ? I mean should I keep increasing the weights maybe until reaching 2x bodyweight (160 kg.) or should I focus more in endurance now?
There is a limit rate of return after 2.2-2.5x BW for 1rm. That might be close to a 178kg squat for 1rm. You don't really need more after 2xBW realistically, which I think you could for 1RM now. Try find other areas that might be weaker to work on. If gym is important to you then work on Plyo's or/and strength/speed continuum
@@marcelosantosdomingues5164 First question. If you keep getting stronger, would you keep getting faster or more powerful? or is there a point you will stop gaining in these other areas? Since I can't paste the page directly -- Strong correlation of maximal squat strength with sprint performance and vertical jump height in elite soccer players After the players reached about 2.2xBW on half squats. There was diminishing returns
@@SSrutbe Got it. My humble opinion (based on all the material I've seen for a few years) is that the strength gain is related to the physical type and function of the player (among other particular characteristics). I understand that people are still based on common sense, just as in the past nothing was known about nutrition. I myself, for example, thought that weight training would not help football. Today I have been training hypertrophy because I am 35 years old and I am very short and light. I only have 1.62m and 55kg. I play as a wing. Most players with my characteristics do not reach 65 kg. Nice conversation. Too bad the language barrier gets in the way. I could talk about that for days. Hehehe! Thank you brother.
Sounds good but, to many questions are ?, or similarities or diferentiations between athletes from nfl, to soccer, nba, hockey, soccer is so complicated that is the reason why is the biggest sport. I would say during my sport career as professional soccer player, we did not like strenght coaches who thought us how to squat ,insisted just for reps and reps, weighlifting, specially if they were so young and without any knowledge about moves, jumps, tackles in soccer(because they did not play soccer and they could not understand nothing about our body conditioning), knowledge from book and faculty is litlle bit different from real game. The real thing is that you need to survive the game in soccer, during the game you play mostly in fatigue state, so coaches rather choose less strenght and performance gains to keep their athletes healthy. Soccer is totally different sport from athletics, in soccer you do not have much time to train all components separetly, because games are on weekends, sometimes in the midlle of the week, so basically keep your athletes healthy is the most important thing, I always like to say look at Usain Bolt, he said that he would be great soccer player(Manchester United) also , I do not see him playing professional soccer. I think he has all key factors strength, linear speed, power, strenght etc but the most important the lack of skill(technic) makes him incompetence to play soccer. So the question is having all characteristics which have been mentioned can not win over just one skill? why is that?, nobody knows but skill always win :):), yours videos are educationally, good job!
I don't know if I understand, because I'm Brazilian and I don't understand English. Perhaps in field soccer strength training is not so necessary. I agree that technique should always be prioritized, especially for amateurs. But I follow futsal channels, as it is the sport I have practiced for the past 10 years, and in this sport one of the physical pillars is strength, along with agility and power, at the expense of endurance, explosion and speed. I also never liked strength training, but for me, who is 1.62 meters, 55 kg and 35 years old, strength training has been helping me, competing with much younger and bigger guys. Do you follow a football training channel? Do you have any material to indicate? Thank you brother.
Here in Brasil every team puts ball work into the workouts, it's crazy. Just let me fucking jump and accelerate and we'll deal with the ball later, but they always want to put some headers or passing along with the explosive stuff
Wont believe me but I prayed(thank you jesus) for this cause i didnt know how to train for soccer all I did was otas football vids
