The 1984 film entitled Purple Rain didn't even scratch the surface in terms of a viable biography. Young Purple wasn't built in a day let alone a couple of hours. The diminutive Minneapolis Maestro and his purple army conquered the musical world...YES! Flyte Tyme, Grand Central, Mind & Matter, The Family & The Lewis Project and the future, challenged his talent and durability. By the time he signed with Warner Brothers, Young Purple had it sorted. Multiple instruments, a silky falsetto and that dramatic visual aesthetic. The trappings of fame are no match for hard work, laser focus, blinding confidence and an unflinching resolve. He played "all" (Head, Uptown) the instruments. He "wrote" all the songs (Partyup, Do Me Baby, Let's Work, Purple Rain) and lead the Revolution from Hennepin County to the waiting world. The Alexander O'Neal dinner on Lake Street. The Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis Snowstorm in Atlanta. The tour bus with four girlfriends in tow.The Morris Day fight. Brother Andre's exit. Vanity's goodbye in the 11th hour. Kim Upsher. Jill Jones. Susan Moonsie. Brenda Bennett. Sue Ann Carwell. Jesse Johnson! Shiela E! Jerome Benton! Mirrors...Elephants & Flowers! Starfish & Coffee! Maple Syrup & Jam! 200 Balloons! The friends, The funk, Love & Vanity, the Erotic City and the man himself take you from June 7, 1958 to the Dawn. "...Apollonia?" (Jill face).
Once Upon a time in Minneapolis is the EPIC drama that Purple Rain couldn't tell in a mere 111 minutes. Young Purple put in his 10,000 hours plus.
"It's hard to take a trip and go around the block and STOP when the trip is 400 miles...DIG?"

That makes me mad happy
Prince showed respect and appreciation toward people who deserve it, that is my opinion and also the right way. Prince knew and was very particular about everything in life so with people too.
Fully realised and true.

Thank you sooo much for this!
I’m grateful for your enthusiasm!
@@Sinnik22 Ive been binge watching these after work. All of the unheard content and the way its arranged and accompanied with photos and video clips is really satisfying!! Really, thank you.
@@phosion The entire impetus was because past pop stars/rock stars were encouraged to become unknowable (by p/r, management, record labels/movie studios/television studios). So the information came from Mtv News or any of the monthly magazines that were ubiquitous to the newsstands. Today everything is on front st. Vlogs, blogs, etc... What if some folks who were motivated, who had the ability to bring a decent visual and a passion for storytelling decided to compile a ton of research into those icons of the past whose influence continues to echo?
This series was amazing!! Thank you!!!

i thnk i've heard bean say that's where he earned the name? true?
@@Sinnik22 Could be, but not sure for it never came up in conversation. Couple other ironic related tid bits is Michael Bland from NPG father Johnny Bland (RIP) was my favorite teacher. Johnny taught science at Murray Jr High and was the coolest cat around. Wore a lil fro and an athletic headband like a 70's basketball star.
Another dude with cool Prince story's you may want to include clips of lives not far from me. The dude Stokley from Mint Condition. Really nice, humble guy. Lotta talent came from Central HS students and even non students via the talent shows they had there.

The world is still waiting in vain for the Ana Duvernay Netflix documentary and since she quits i m not even sure we ll see anything.
Thanks a lot for telling the story and kept the legend at bay. It always better to tell the truth about Prince genius without hiding the insecurities, pettyneess. It helps to realize that he was a flawed human being. He is even bigger in my book after watching this all thing..
🙏🏼👍🏼🤲🏼🤲🏼
We ain’t done. Lotta Butta to go
@@Sinnik22 i can t wait. I ll be watching. I m from Paris, France.
I ve seen prince live like 40 times in différent settings, venues and countries. I was in College in Nice when he was shooting under tbe Cherry moon. I was lucky enough to see the shooting of the video of America in 85. I was one of the 6000 parisians at the august 86 concert when he cut the base for what will become it s gonna be a beautiful. Same for the shooting of u got the look in june 87 after the concert of the sign of the times tour. I always felt blessed of living in that era when he was so creative. He led me to discover kind of music i would never have listened to and as Alicia keys put it he challenged me with each and every album, forcing me to rise to the occasion.
Where are u from ? Did u ever consider sending those 2 seasons to Netflix. You did most of the work regarding the timeline, the choice of tbe archives and u pushed the limit of fair use to the max not to be shut down. You should take that leap of faith to take it to next level and be authorized to use the music and the archive more officially. But again whatever you intend to do in the future, count me as loyal viewer
Good luck for your future endeavours
Incredible. You were a fan then?
A lot of people have stated the same. That I should go to Netflix. I’m quite practised in fair use. I’m an extremely curious person and Prince left too many tempting breadcrumbs for me not to want to piece his incredible life together.
I’m from the USA
Very cool.

These are by far the coolest videos for someone who really loves prince and wants a look into his life....there are so many people making sensation pieces to get views full of runors and repeat from the press....this is straight from the party's involved and put together so well....the only thing i dont like is the fact that some of the videos have to end because they are so good......thank you... R.I.P Prince....THEY CALLED YOU PRINCE BUT YOU WHERE A KING!!!!! WE LOVE AND MISS YOU...SEE YOU ON THE GRAFFITI BRIDGE
You're a genius.
Prince left a lot of bread crumbs. I’m trying to put him together. Most docs take an hour to remind us that “Prince is a mysterious genius”. He always talked about practice, artistry, ownership. Doing this is helping me see what it was like. Enjoy & share.
@@Sinnik22 I just dig the style. Us Prince fans we’ve heard and seen all the interviews from everyone. By putting it together the way you’re doing it doesn’t lessen the mystery - it puts us right there in the middle of it. I’ve watched and read every doc or book I can get my hands on. I’ve never felt that I was more then a devout fan. Your work makes me feel like I was his neighbor or his cousin. Watching this makes feel like I was in his band. You’ve conjured up some Purple magic. Thank you from the bottom of my paisley park heart.
@@TruckStopMixtape Good grief aint this the mission? perfection even after a year. you said it bruh. but are u still watching?
@@Sinnik22 oh yes.
Absolute perfection!
Obvious Prince fan right? Are you starting on E1 now?
@@Sinnik22 dude (or dudes) I'm a gigantic prince fan, an ACTUAL prince fan. I've gobbled up the least little tidbits info on prince for decades, so I'm pretty familiar with alot of the source material you're getting this from.
But that doesn't take anything away from what you've done! What you've done here is truly absolutely incredible!
Dude, collecting information from hours of interviews and editing it down AND still managing to assemble it chronologically?? And presenting it the way you've done??? Remarkable! And I LOVE it!
AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, you're presenting a truer, more human depiction on the man. Not of prince, but of Prince Rogers Nelson!
Straight down the middle. Warts and all!
It was almost pure luck i even came across this. As a "real" prince fan, you'd have to kind of hold your nose as you hit most links. So I was prepared to do the same here. No big deal.
I caught the first 2 episodes first. And they were pretty good, as I was withholding judgement. But then autoplay skipped to season 2 ep. 7. No probs, this happens.
Dude, when i realized it was my mistake??? Dude...
I dropped EVERYTHING! I went back to season one ep. 1 and ran right through them! I even got mad because you (or ya'll) haven't dropped the latest episode yet!
The EFFORT ALONE dude! Just the effort alone!
And you're presenting it PERFECTLY!
REAL information, from REAL interviews, from the REAL people who were REALLY there!
So yeah I've watched them all.
I hope you get recognized for this somehow. I don't know how much further you're going to go but I am all in!

The greatest musician ever the greatest artists along with Michael Jackson...Prince or maybe better than Michael Jackson...
So no James Brown,al green, stevie wonder
He was way better than Michael. Prince was da man! No doubt! Peace.
@@mrlofi333 They didn't play all instruments. Don't get me wrong, they were good. But the Kid just did it better. And plainly, he did it all.
@@j.r.3097 Stop MJ was respectful and didn't have a crazy ego. No DISRESPECT but MJ was a better artist. Prince was a sexual artist but once Jesus came back now he's too good for his CLASSIC sexual music.
@@j.r.3097 Stevie Wonder didn't play on his own albums? Yeah WHATEVER
The universe gives you the answers.. What coincidence that Andre's Dad played with Prince's Dad. Is that coincidence. I think not. The stars were aligning even back then. Prince had an incentive to be great. He could've went the negative route. But, instead he latched on to his playing ,where he was granted the fortitude to express his feelings honestly.
Prince was Inevitable.
Prince moved with complete purpose
@@view-caster1776 absolutely he did.
John Nelson and Fred Anderson in the same group? I doubt it. I've never heard this story until my cousin Prince passed.
Prince was the shizzznikk! He stands alone in his own lane! I remember when I was younger that ppl used to compare him to MJ and MJ this and that, trying to get a rise out of me. But I just remember singing Controversy all the time and this girl asked me why do you sing that song and why did he put the Lord’s Prayer in it, and I said did you listen to the song! Still one of my favorites til this day! 2023 May 13th to be exact! 🤷🏽♀️💜 To all the legions R.I.P. you were instrumental In your own way! 💜🕊️

Wow this is great
andre doesnt mention prince's song given to him dance electric...but he has the right to be sort of / and sometimes much more neglected from prince in his thoughts cause prince was not at all "the good guy" he was a pain in the ass... but prince was not from this world... he was totally off the hook concerning musicality and work ethics and control of everything to keep his vision of success working no matter cost... however andre worked with some of the best of the best of all time.. so he is a hell of a musician too... mineapolis is the mecca of pure funk and musical innovation....
