I’m a D.C. resident and can say from experience that the police are so outnumbered and understaffed that many have opted to take the law into their own hands. Less than 8,000 of us in D.C. are licensed to carry a firearm and it’s estimated over 100,000 criminals have illegal guns. It reminds me of when I lived in Rio de Janeiro. We are just so outnumbered by criminals the only way to protect yourself is to own a firearm and know how and when to use it.

I get the point but its more complex than that: prisons are already understaffed, funded and overpopulated. If every guilty criminal was actually put away, the criminal justice system would totally break down. Ultimately, what will solve the problem is holistic and grassroots, not more jails, more prison time.

Sure. Plan, Plot, scheme & scam. the making/designing of a society that is dependent and manipulated in many ways in order to maintain an organized shift or to effect a disorganization. In other words don't think that what you see is real but is only a means to an end. What you are shown/told has a purpose to someone. "pay no attention to that man behind the curtain". E.g. You have a leader that for years cannot do a thing right, per media but reportedly does everything wrong. That's not a bit improbable is it ? That's just a fraction of how silly and plainly wrong things have gotten. Its as if a burglar has thrown tainted meat to the guard dog and as long as the dog is fed the burglar will have his way.

Going to jail for a while and missing out on life is a pretty strong incentive to not go back and make changes. Repeat offenders go right back to where they belong, because they don’t learn their lesson. It’s pretty simple.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. As someone who has been to jail, would you say there are people there who WANT to be there? Like as in people who don't want to work, want to be fed and housed for free? Are there some people who consider jail an easy life, or is that just the perspective of someone who doesn't know the inner workings? I always wondered if people repeat offend for the sole purpose of going back because they feel more comfortable there than the outside world, if that is even possible.

@@Bancheis there are some people who possibly prefer being in jail. They are unfortunately, institutionalized. There are also outside influences that promote it as a sort of badge of honor. I could go deeper into why this is the media and our governments fault, but then this would be a 50 page synopsis. Ultimately, when people don’t have role models, they gravitate towards anyone that dominates a space. Some people see jail as a space to dominate. It’s an extension of a cultural downfall. I personally just kept my head down, prayed to stay safe, and counted the seconds until I was out. There is nothing cool about eating absolute trash food (truly disgusting), sleeping on a metal slab, pooping with everyone watching, listening to grown men brag about adolescent behavior, and showering in full view. Some people in jail are extremely childish and temperamental, but there are many like me who just want to get out and have a normal life. Almost anything can be seen as disrespect. You are at the complete mercy of the authority around you. Bottom line, it absolutely sucks. Anyone who prefers this setting is likely, very mentally ill. I’d much rather be working from home on my computer with little to no social life, watching Monday night football, eating wings, and staying out of trouble, than bragging about 50 bags of chips and having “respect.” I am lucky I have a good family with a good environment to go home to. Many unfortunately, do not. I made mistakes. I saw them for what they were. Some really do not. And it’s a sad thing. But, I can’t see how you can rehabilitate someone who thinks a tough guy life has any sort of honor to it when they don’t know any better. My only belief is, they either figure it out by losing their freedoms, or, they do not deserve freedom.

They’ve never been to a broadway show or stayed at a five star hotel to overlook a dusk sunset with the sound of waves crashing. It’s a socioeconomic issue, and the government makes believe they are doing a good job by propping up a loser mentality and using the media to promote it. It can't be simply blamed on voter ignorance. Rather, the real problem is voter WILLFUL ignorance. Voters are capable of making better choices but they consciously decide to make bad choices in their voting booths. It's on them. Let the voters live in the misery they vote for.
