I never experienced a bigger "melting pot" than in my military service. We had every demographic you can imagine, and no one cared about anything other than being good soldiers and taking care of each other.

Almost 50 years ago when I was in the military, my first Commander was Latino. One of his top two subordinates was black. I later went to an advanced training course, where the top instructor was black. Nobody ever questioned their abilities or suggested they be promoted or rewarded SOLELY for their race or ethnicity.

I am a disabled veteran with 12 years active duty and six years army reserve. The story I relate it’s from my first tour of active duty in the 82nd ABN Div. My platoon consisted of 24 guys and 5 noncommissioned officers. To say we were a mixed bag of races is putting it mildly. White, Black, Hispanic, Middle Eastern, Asian, and one Native American. I mention Singer (Navajo) because he was my best friend. We were a tight group. I don’t remember race ever becoming an issue. You see we had a very dangerous job. We jumped out of airplanes. We trained for combat. We did the kind of stuff that you needed to have somebody watching your back. We trusted and protected each other. We succeeded in that job. I guess that’s why Paratroopers are called a Band of Brothers.
I served in 82nd Eng Batt... Supporting 82nd ABN... Congress people need to have served...so they know what it is to see Rights and care stripped away...then we will see our Veterans taken care of!!

I was a recruiter for 2 years. We were forced to recruit and enlist minorities before white people. The standards were lowered for minorities and minorities were given opportunities before anyone else. It was the most racist thing I’ve ever seen.

I don't think that it is necessarily because they feel that they won't measure up, but rather, because of ideas like affirmative action and dei they don't have to strive to be their best selves. Perhaps, on a subconscious level, they know that that would require effort that they don't want to extend.
The claim that affirmative action and dei "level the playing field" is just not so. Instead of helping them to better themselves, these ideas actually rob these people of their passion and drive to achieve success on their own. Laziness knows no skin color, ethnicity, or orientation, and most people, when given the choice, will choose the easy path instead of digging deep and pushing themselves to succeed on their own merits. Just like affirmative action, we need to get rid of dei, they do nothing but breed laziness and entitlement.

When I was in the Army, I clearly remember being quarterly briefed on the DOD policies, which ensured no one's race(physical characteristics), ethnicity, religious affiliations, creed, should be held against the individual. DEI violates the DOD policies that ensure everyone should be treated equally. Promoting individuals for diversity quota, not by merits, creates division in a unit. DEI needs to be removed out of the DOD.

@kerryholifieldjr6395 I know enough about the negative situations. Hearing from the Airmen, Soldiers, and Marines who are leaving the installations here in North Carolina. The classic PowerPoint to death service members in how their "unconscious biases" makes themself rascist. Meanwhile, the policies and practices of the ideology of CRT, the bases of DEI, is in fact rascist . When you subdivide individuals for ideological reasons based on physical characteristics, by definition, that is racism. When soldiers say they are being passed over by individuals who do not meet the military standards, that creates division in a unit. The adverse effect a Soldier/ Airmen/Marine chooses to leave the Armed Services because of they are being held back for unjust reasons. Even those choosing to retire, speak in private about policies that they do not agree about but been forced to support or they to would be removed from their postions. It is one major reason I am glad I was retired in 2008, as Commands started focusing on identity politics.

As a Vietnam vet with two tours under his belt, I am lost for words to explain how lucky I was to receive real training that helped me and my brothers stay alive during actual combat. Coming from a 22 year Army retiree veteran I can personally attest that up to the year of 2009 when I retired race was never a consideration in the numerous airborne units I was assigned to. We all had tremendous respect and appreciation for everyone else. We only saw the color green when we looked our fellow paratroopers in the eyes and we each knew that no matter how bad a combat task became we would have each other’s backs. The democrats insistence that race, sex, gender etc. become a top priority is not only tearing our military to shreds but it’s also destroying our country.

I was in the Army for 22 years, and I retired in March 2022. With this being said, I believe it gives me the unique experience to speak on this matter. I want to start off by saying I believe Republicans and Democrats are both the same and different in name only. I have seen what bringing race,gender, and sexual orientation does to the Army, and it is nothing good. I have seen Soldiers disrespect leadership because they didn't want to do things, and when told to fall in with everyone else, they screamed racism, sexism, or homeopathic. Without any proof on the matter, investigations start and all because an entitled Soldier felt they shouldn't be out in the field or doing range cleanup or even missions that are too much like work. I have seen female Soldiers show up to formation looking like they are more fit to go to a nightclub rather than doing their job, and rightfully so the immediate leadership is afraid to say anything about it because they don't want to go through the embarrassment of an investigation. The Army has always been about you are not a woman, man, white, black, gay, or straight you were a Soldier. That Army has been pushed aside for an Army of individualism and fear when enforcing rules and regulations. I retired at 42 years old and with 22 years in because the new Army is a dangerous Army both in garrison and deployment, not from enemies foreign or domestic but from Soldiers who believe they are individual's, entitled, and special. I wouldn't have wanted to deploy with 60% of Soldiers today, and for that reason, I retired.

I served 10 years active duty in the United States Air Force and one of the things I really loved about that was that I never saw any racism at all. And that was back in the 80s and 90s.

My dad was a reserve intel officer in the USAF. He saw black officers promote their friends very frequently. Not saying this was throughout the branch but he has personally seen cronyism happen a lot during his time.
I was in in the 90s , racism existed. I don't think people were being held back due to race. If you did your work and a little self improvement, you could move up in most rates... except if you were a BT, those guys were never advanced.

There is reason why the House always has a parliamentarian available during an active session. Very few of the House members (if any) have a comprehensive view of all the House rules. The Chair did as he should have done and spoke in measured tones while he took his time to confer with the parliamentarian. Gaetz -- like many Trumpist idiot fake Republicans who want to see the world burn -- think "point of order" and "decorum" constitute the be-all-end-all of Congressional showmanship, to say nothing of effective legislative purpose.

I agree, but unfortunately the "SPEECH and DEBATE Clause" allows congress to lie to Americans which is unfortunate! That being said the 2017 pentagon survey seems to validate the discrimination that occurs in the military. It even makes mention that 40% of black people feared for their safety due to racism. Pretending racism doesn't exist isn't going to fix the military and hoping it will go away won't either.
I don't understand it, either. I am sure Pelosi and Schiff and all their ilk could give us some understanding about that.

I served in the Army 2015-2020 and met a handful of genuinely racist people including so far as some that caught EO complaints for it, so I don't agree with all the people saying tace never mattered in the Army. EO complaint channels exist for a reason.
HOWEVER, it was very rare and always dealt with swiftly and seriosuly when brought forward.

I have close relatives that served and the issue of racial inclusion still lingers in the Military even in the higher ranks of command. If the DEI training is something that informs and brings a standard on how to interact with their fellow soldiers the only issue would be if you wanted to continue to scream your racist jokes and not promote certain groups of people based on their race. People with different gender pronouns should also be respected and equal. And equally judged on their ability to perform like the rest. At the end of the day it’s just information on the standard to treat everyone by. If you want everyone to treat everyone equally then why would you have a problem with everyone being on the same page about it? If you’re not personally effected by ignorance it’s easier for you to dismiss it.

When I served we were all one color: GREEN and every soldier no matter what background, put all their differences aside and served together with no racial issues. DE&I is already part of the military culture, in the RIGHT way. To say that diversity isn't happening in the military is absolutely insane. More than half of my chain of command going all the way up to top brass were Black, Latino, and Asian and this was in the 90's. My Command Sergeant Major was the brother of Michael Jordan, there was no way in hell CSM Jordan would stand for any type of racism from anyone.
