Further explanation on what may be causing high morning glucose and what you can do about it: diabetes.org/diabetes/treatment-care/high-morning-blood-glucose
It is called “dawn phenomenom”. I noticed that when I am following keto diet my morning blood sugar falls to 5.3 - 5.7. But, if I allow myself to eat just one bag of potato chips, during next two days morning sugar raises up to 6.5 and then slowly goes down to normal during next week if I do not eat carbs and stay on keto.
Simple solution I employ based on a 1 year type 2 diabetes education program involves eating a small snack of complex carbs shortly before bedtime specifically garbanzo beans. This complex carb more slowly digests thereby providing a relatively slow release of sugar into the blood stream. This tends to prevent liver dumps of sugar.
Thanks for all your hard work, I am type 2 but been controlling it with diets and exercise however I still wake up with high blood sugar even though my levels are lower during the day and before I go to bed.
I am pre-pre-diabetic and trying to stay that way. With an A1c of 5.5-5.7, I track my blood glucose in the mornings and can find them 110-120. I will test it before, after, and an hour after my breakfast of eggs, with my blood glucose going down to the mid-80s or 90. After that, my blood glucose remains in the 80s or low 90s until I sleep. I admit I have not been sleeping the best this year, and working on that. Hopefully, I can correct my morning blood glucose with better sleep.
Yep. I hear you. Hubs has type 2. We have done everything and beyond to get his numbers down, but they persist in the 170s. It's very frustrating. He eats very low-carb and takes supplements (berberine, banaba, etc.). Metformin was making him sick, and we don't want all those drugs pumping through his system anyway. We wish we knew what more we could be doing. His doctors don't have anything to suggest. And yes, we've gone to other doctors.
I have a very active liver. I can go to bed in my 80s and wake up at 105. I'm on metformin ER 2000 MG a day. Before metformin my fasting would rarely go below 100 and mornings could be in the 120s. Last a1c was 5.7 down from 7.8 with a low carb diet (or a low blood sugar spike diet,
Hi.tnx for the video..as a type 1 diabetes nothing helped me to bring down my high morning sugar but the apple cider vinegar at bed time..i mix 2tbs with glas of water and i see miracle in the morning..hope it can help out other diabetes
Really useful, my am readings have been high - this gets me feeling like I am behind the game even prior to my first meal- so disheartening, I feel like I just want to give up.
I Excercise daily in the morning and in the evening, I walk, don’t eat anything with high carb, and yet my sugar is higher in the morning from 99 at the bed time to 121/124 in the morning, that’s my issue. I was hoping you will explain that.
I have a type 2 diabetes since I was 38 years old on February 7, 2017. I take metformin medication. My mother and I have type 2 diabetes mellitus without complications .. I am Prediabetes now. I'm 44 years-old middle-aged man and nonsmoker person and never drinking nonalcoholic too.
I directly add baking soda(due to its antacid properties and carbs being acidic), clove powder, and ceylon cinnamon to the carbs I eat. If I eat a main course and most non-desserts(raisin bran cereal is an exception to the following rule), then I also add turmeric(with black pepper), ginger, onion, and garlic powder in addition to those aforementioned ingredients. QUESTION: Do those things help your sugar levels or would they not? I think a lot of people would want to know whether adding anti-diabetic preliminaries to food and drink helps you. NOTE: On the baking soda, I do take blood pressure lowering edibles during the day like vinegar.
Though Type 2 diabetes is dominated by Insulin Resistance, there is also evidence of the loss of Beta Cell function over time. Can Beta Cell function be preserved or even recovered in Type 2 Diabetes? It depends. "Without treatment, type 2 diabetes can progress, and further loss of beta cells can occur. However, 2019 research has found that loss of beta cell function is reversible in the early stages of type 2 diabetes and does not cause permanent damage." (Reference in video description) Some Type 2 Diabetes patients have lost up to 50% of Beta Cell function upon diagnosis however there is research showing that in some cases the pancreas can recover this function at least in part. The issue with Type 2 Diabetes is not an auto-Immune issue, like in Type 1 Diabetes, however in Type 2 diabetes there is a combination of both insulin resistance and exhaustion of the Beta Cells in the pancreas. Let me know if this video sparked any further questions for you. If there is interest, I will continue to answer your questions here and/or via a future video. Thank you for being part of the Friendly Pharmacy 5 community!🙂
Visceral and ectopic fat will affect beta cell function as will fatty and especially toxic liver. Long standing type 2 diabetes will have all of the above. It can take castor oil liver packs and a series of 24 to 36 hour fasts to reduce fat accumulation and detoxify the liver.
I use a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) and it shows that my glucose level has high fluctuations. Why is this happening if I am sleeping? Thank you for the information.
Extremely important questions have been answered, I would love to have more legit info on Type 2 Diabetes. I have been Diabetic for almost 8yrs now, initially I was not serious about it, I was quite over weight, with a waist size of 38" . Now however, i am very serious about this issue, also my fitness regime includes Jogging / walking, almost 40 min, and my waist size has gone down to 34". But, yet my sleeping is not satisfactory, and my blood sugar levels are not satisfactory?
I think you hit it on the head. If your sleep is not satisfactory more cortisol may be repeated in the morning and with cortisol comes a release of glucose from the liver. At least, that is what I heard. BTW, congrats on your journey and the weight loss.
Excellent lecture. I like the way you explain the subject matter and provide details. So many others do not give details and it's details that leaves people with questions. Your lectures are better than most. I can tell you stay neutral but personally for me after decades in the medical industry I definitely lean hard far away from the medical cartel system e.g. cancer causing and DNA damaging nuclear studies like CTs etc ....
Good morning Lindsay. Thanks for this video. My husband is Type 2. He walks 1 hour daily, like the postman - rain, snow, sleet and hail. We eat healthy but his problem is the BREAD for sure, and the significantly larger portion of a "healthy, low fat, low sugar, gluten free desert". I wondered whether or not somehow, as you get older, your body loses its ability to perform as it should, in relation to insulin. Seems everyone in the 60+ age group has had their Metformin doubled, even with lifestyle change efforts. I'm up early making bone broth and he's snoring, so I'll direct him to the video to watch tonite after dinner. Take care.
And that's what every husband wants their wife telling them what to eat so they can live longer I'm not saying you're nag I'm sure you're doing it out of love but it really hits hard on us when our wives tell us what we're doing wrong Men have feelings we show them very differently we also think about our feelings much more than you have any idea. So anything you want to tell your husband that he's doing wrong or you think he should change. Figure out a really good way of tell him. I know this because I feel the same things when my wife tells me what I should eat and what I'm doing wrong so I can live longer. We just want to be back to normal and we know we can never get there 😔
You might want to be careful with having a low-fat AND low-sugar eating plan. Your body needs energy from somewhere, and even though a majority of us have plenty of fat to burn off our bodies, our bodies are still looking for energy input as the liver has a limit of glucose it makes each day. If fat and sugar are limited too much, your body might cannibalize the muscle for amino acids to keep your organs healthy. Well, done with the bone broth, and I would be interested in how your husband would respond to a teaspoon of coconut oil in the morning. In my opinion, Type 2 diabetes is a symptom of something deeper going on in the body and not the disease itself. I am not a physician or play one on tv. Just expressing my opinion. As for the other comment, if a man's wife stops "nagging" her husband, he will start to wonder if she cares any longer.
The "Dawn Effect" is one reason I find it so easy to extend my fast and wait until the afternoon until I break-my-fast. Helped with a cup of coffee, the dawn effect keeps me going, with help from a very low carb diet. Gluconeogenesis is the body's ability to make blood sugar from fats and proteins. It means NEVER having to eat any carbs ever. None zip zero. There are essential amino-acids and fatty acids, but NO essential carbs.
Before I go to bed in the evening, I’ll check my Blood sugar. It’s generally in the mid-80’s to Low 90’s. I eat a low carb diet, rarely eat anything after 6pm, No soda, sweets and very little Fruit (Blueberries, and other Low GI fruit), and never after 6pm. I drink black coffee in the morning (no juices), water, Unsweetened tea, green tea, or a low carb protein shake (5g total carbs) during the day. Only water after 6pm. When I check my sugars in the morning, it’s often 120+. Your info is useful, But I don’t understand why the liver is producing sugars when I sleep…… can you please be more clear on this point. I do not have a medical background.
I Walk between 10 and 12 miles per day. Run an 8 minute mile. Do weights and bike rides. Avoid all the bad foods and still have high blood sugars in the morning. I was told my weight was never an issue, so it's hard to understand why my figures are bad ( or even why I got diabetes in the first place). Last blood review said my liver function was perfect. Sometimes life can be like that. We are at the mercy of our DNA.
It’s a great question without a simple answer. Here is an excellent explanation from the American Diabetes Association: diabetes.org/diabetes/treatment-care/high-morning-blood-glucose
Not just "in some cases". Low carb is the solution to most cases of T2D. It's just a matter of time. Sticking to low carb, with some fasting your body shall adjust back to normal with drops in A1C and fasting glucose levels.
I'm 72 years old in diagnosed with type 2 diabetes twice each time I lost my weight and change my lifestyle and today I am not a diabetic at all consider the way you live
I’m not diabetic my A1C is normal but my sugar number in the morning pretty high between 100 and 115 sometimes more and when I eat it goes down after 2h or still the same
Yes, thank you for this. I explain in more detail in this follow-up video: High Fasting Blood Sugar Solutions | How to Get Your Blood Sugar Back to Normal ruclips.net/video/JA1vHscRV9U/видео.html
How do you balance the Congestive Heartfailure medications that increase blood sugar levels, with trying to prevent diabetes/kidney function reduction?
I have very low blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, but I haven’t taken any medication yet. Is there any diabetic medication for my scenario? Thank you very much.
I have insulin resistance and did not understand it. Thanks for this explanation. I also have a very difficult time loosing weight due to Hashimoto’s (hypothyroidism) and taking an antidepressant that has caused weight gain. I have tried intermittent fasting with no effect. It’s very discouraging.
You are not alone. I have the same, but hypothyroidism due to ablation after a diagnosis of multi-nodular toxic goiter. The insulin resistance has affected my kidneys to where I am classified as state two chronic kidney disease. My fasting sugar stays at around 105 and after eating rarely if ever goes up more than 25 to 30 points. Intermittent fasting has made little difference for me as well. Yes, discouraging and depressing. I hope some day soon you will find a successful solution.
Hypothyroidism actually causes weight gain due to slowing down BMR.Replacement therapy (usually with Levothyroxin) should be adequate to prevent weight gain and other problems.May I know your initial and last TSH,FT4&FT3 values and the generic name & dose of the Thyroid medicine . Your body weight is also needed.
Look at inflammation info. Your body might be chronically setting off immune system to try to heal your thyroid. Look up dietary measures to help thyroid and eat onion, garlic, greens and probiotic foods to calm inflammation. Worth a shot
My hba1c was always around 4.6 till my age of 58 (now I’m 61). Suddenly the numbers raised in front he last three quarters to 5.5, 5.6 and 5.4. Then I started reducing my carbs and the last count was 4.9. But whenever I check my fasting blood sugar it is always between 100 and 125. Why is it so. I’m a very active person doing walking - 14000 steps per day, yoga 45 minutes per day, light gym exercises for 20 minutes or cycling. I’m a vegetarian and eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Morning breakfast one tender coconut with lemon and 100 ML coffee, lunch at 11:00 am and dinner consisting of fruits vegetables, nuts and 100 ml non-pasteurised A2 cows milk before 7:00 pm. Please suggest me how I can reduce my fasting sugar to less than 90 without any medication.
A switch to fatty meat helped me. Rarely any fruit or vegetables. They were causing my Blood sugar problems. No carbs. 0. That includes fruit and vegetables.
Agree that reducing fruit intake can be helpful in general as fruit can have high levels of sugar. Will give this some more thought as I can see you are certainly doing what you can. It’s hard to give an accurate assessment here online, are you able to reach out to a local pharmacist or diabetes educator who can help? What area of the world are you in?
I check my sugar before I go to bed on a regular basis it is very often between 100 - 120. When I check it in the morning It is between 170 and 200. I do not have a hot fudge sundae while i'm sleeping! No matter how few carbs I eat. This is very frustrating
I noticed when I eat something at nite my glucose is better in the morning around 125 if I am fasting16 hours my glucose is around 135 when I wake up...
I have type one there was a small amount of fluid behind my eye so they gave me injection into my eye the fluid is gone but my eye sight is getting worse what could be causing this
she made a big circle but only focused on T2D patients. The body generates glucose to wake you up. however some one may have little insulin resistance due to aging or pre-diabetics. it is dawn phenomenon. not necessary only for T2D patients. my personal view.
Yes I face the same issue in the morning. Reading is 10 mmol. What I did was at 3.00 am everyday I took 500mg of metformin and a shot of 20 IU insulin . Now my reading is down to 6 mmol. I know another person who said he will never eats anything after 8.00 pm. He don't face high reading in the morning.
It's called sunrising It's your liver feeding you getting you ready for the morning wake up One problem You're diabetic. What I do is regulate what goes in the night before and maybe add a workout session after dinner. Just remember a workout session will add energy and make you want to do more so go do more. Take a walk with the wife or husband. Just remember the drugs you are taking at the moment older they came out a long time ago and they still work well when your doctor wants to put you on a new medication check out the meds very carefully. What is their worst side effect. A lot of the new drugs cause cancer. It's the last side effect they'll put on the listing hoping you don't read to the end. These drugs are pushed very heavily by the representatives from the pharmaceutical companies to the hospitals where your doctor is affiliated.
I was diagnosed with ketoacidosis 8 years ago. Doctors told me my pancreas stopped working. I was in the ICU for 6 days. Prescribed Humalog and lantus .....end up developing high blood pressure after taking these insulin. I end up being diagnosed with diabetes.Attending doctors couldn't agree if its type 1 or type 2. I managed to control my sugar levels for few years. After covid was here I'm experiencing high readings.....11.5 , 10.8 in the mornings for few days now. I suspect insulin resistance too. I am 67 years old. I stopped eating refined carbohydrates altogether including white rice and pasta. Eat a lot of vegetables. Stopped eating tropical fruits too. What can I do to stop high readings in the morning?
Madam my bed time blood sugar 140 then morning fasting 207. What is the problem. My Wright 65 kg. Age 44. I have daibetis past 24 years. I am taking novomix 30. Morning 14 units evening 12 units. Please help me. Thanks
anyone experienced this?... T2d & have been very strict keto for months, have seen good results & wt loss, a1c ⬇️, good bg numbers. but - in the last week, my glucose numbers throughout the day have been > 100, as high as 154. no changes in meds(ozempic) but i have been eating more strict carnivore (bbbe). suggestions & ty!
I’m steering away from keto/low carb as I’m seeing it reset my body to a higher fasting BS after a few years. I know it’s all the rage and folks brag and swear by it😄and it works briefly, then nothing or worse. Other keto people have said this too. There really isn’t enough long term clinical research on it. The brain has to have carbs, firstly, and if the body is used to fat and protein only, the liver is going to make glucose and it will be higher in the mornings.
I've been eating keto/low carb, exercising etc... my last a1c down to 6.1 from 7.1 (morning bg 140-180). Now my bg in morning are higher than they were before. I'm concerned and confused. Did my a1c go up??? There's a yt Dr. Ekberg that said it might be normal when someone changes eating habits. What do you think? Thanks! Great video.
I was told it can take up to a year for your body to catch up. Your numbers will one day go down. Keep eating low carb under 50 grams carbs per day. This is definitely challenging since I am on month 2 and still high numbers. But no meds.
This is because the liver will start producing its own glucose when the body is fasting, such as during sleep in order to maintain glucose levels. In the morning hormones like cortisol also raise blood glucose levels via this mechanism. In diabetes, the process is somewhat more complex.
This may be helpful: ruclips.net/video/JA1vHscRV9U/видео.html I also have an interview that you may enjoy on this topic: ruclips.net/video/F7W1sIJvGbQ/видео.html
Great question. According to the American Diabetes Association, your blood sugar when you wake should be below 100 mg/dL (5.6 mmol/L) if you don’t have diabetes. If your fasting blood sugar level is consistently above 7, this is indicates a possible diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes.
@@FriendlyPharmacy5 my sugars are good , but when I train with free weights ,the reading is not perfect but goes from 90 to between 115-120 and settles down to normal - 90 ish ?
I’m Type II and have been having trouble maintaining my numbers. Recently, I’ve stopped being hungry and have to force myself to eat. Having to force myself to eat when I have no cravings for food make me feel like a child being forced by my mother to remain at the table eating when I used to turn up my nose at something she prepared. Does this sound like something is actually making me go without food? What can I do to get over this?
Thank you for the comment and I'm sorry to hear you are feeling this way. It's hard to do an assessment without all of the needed information and I cannot give advice on this platform. There could be another issue going on, or it could even be an issue with medication. I would recommend consulting a physician or pharmacist and not ignoring this, as clearly this is not normal for you. I hope this helps and I hope you get an answer for this soon.
I like your presentation it is easy to understand for us i appreciate you saying this am pharmacist living in africa but before 14years understand having the diabetics started to take metformin & glibenclamide after 5 years i use to take additional metformin which is 500mg bid daily.recently which is one year after i started to inject insulin/mixtard/ bid daily with metformin 500mg bid.on top that am hypertensive too.for that also am taking Lisinopril 10mg bid.the last 14days i stopped all medications including insulin.regulary am testing my glucose.i started healthy life style which is exercising in the morning using health diet fasting 18hrs.i fell okay am full of energy no fatigue at all the fasting glucose is usually 128mg/dl still am straggling to reverse it.i wnt to know your suggestions on my issue.10Q so much.
Thank you for your question and comment. I cannot give medical advice on this platform so I suggest you see a healthcare professional before starting or stopping any medications or supplements. Lifestyle changes can be extremely beneficial but please do not make any medication changes without the support of a licensed healthcare professional. I hope this helps.
What do you consider high? My doctor indicates that if you test 250 ot greater, that is considered very high. I would assume that moderate to high might be from 150 to 200, Thoughts?
The first disagreement I have with this video is stating that glucose is the main source of energy for the body. I have heard it said that fat (or ketones) are like petrol that your body runs off most efficiently, and glucose is like nitrous and can put your body in an afterburner mode. Yes, some cells of the body run better off of glucose, but most don't. I am surprised that nothing was mentioned that the liver makes glucose in the morning as a response to cortisol that helps wake you up.
Thank you for the comment, and for watching the video. I actually have a new video coming on this topic tomorrow. There are different reasons for high sugar levels depending on the person. Let me know if you have further questions after watching tomorrow's video - it might help you figure out what is happening and it may be a good idea to ask your healthcare provider for a plan to better manage this. It's great that you are paying attention to this and documenting it is also helpful to spot different trends, and consistent highs, as you have mentioned.
Has there been any studies re Covid affecting blood sugar levels? My levels were perfect for 14 years without any medication then suddenly out of the blue they skyrocketed.
This is a very important question. COVID-19 infection, as is the case with other infections as well, can indeed temporarily cause changes in blood sugar levels. We do know however that the virus can invade every tissue in the body, and “several studies have suggested that adults face an increased risk of diabetes diagnosis after contracting COVID-19” (American Diabetes Association) So yes, there can be a correlation. I would suggest seeking a healthcare provider for an assessment if this is continuing for you. Thank you very much for this question.
@@FriendlyPharmacy5 My diabetic nurse is really confused by my latest results. My liver function is perfect. I have no fatigue, raging thirst or any other of the signs of high sugar levels. Very strange.
That is actually fairly typical of Type 2 diabetes. Many people never realize they have it until they have bloodwork done. Type 1 usually has those more typical symptoms as there is a higher % of beta cell destruction and therefore the body is unable to keep up. Type 2 diabetes is usually much more gradual, and often without symptoms.
@@FriendlyPharmacy5 Part of the problem is people think you have to be obese to get it. My doctor told me she didn't think for a second I was at risk. Bad Irish genes!
Hi apart from reducing carbs , theres 2-3 other tips to prevent blood sugar levels getting too high .. 1. When you have your meals , eats your salads and vegetables first or with your protein ( chicken , beef , lamb etc) ; then have your carbs last (i was informed about 15 mins later) ...and reduce the portion size of the carbs. 2. Test your blood sugar 2 hours after your meals end. BUT 30-45 mins at the end of your meals do some exercise , go for a brisk walk to burn up sugars and digest. 3. Try and have your last meal/dinner by 7pm or 8pm if possible so you can go for a walk and it gives your body a 12 hour intermittent fasting period before your breakfast the next day Nb. re 2. meal eating order , eating vegetables and protein gives your body a feeling of satiety so that the carb portion is reduced and also not easily digested to increase your glucose. Nb. Also maybe look at your diet and ask your doctor / research the Mediterranean diet. But it also means no unhealthy snacks at all times of the day. If you find this hard , take baby steps and try it Hope this helps

Hi , I am a new subscriber in your channel , and I have a question hoping that you will give me an answer . I am over weight , my dr asked to test my glucose or sugar level ,, at that time I used to eat normally , like bread , rice , pasta and sweets always , so my blood sugar was 123 although I walk for one hour around five times a week . So I stated dieting and I stopped completely all the carbohydrates and sugar , and I continued walking and lost weight . After 3 months I repeated the test and the blood sugar dropped to 103 , continued the same lifestyle watching what I eat , and also after two more months I repeated the test , and to my surprise , the result was 102 . This really surprised me , I was excepting it to drop below 100 . So what does that mean ? Am I pré diabetic, or is it diabetes 2 or what ? Please can you answer my question as I am really worried , thank you in advance . By the way , I am 67 years old
So is my liver creating the extra sugar due to my hypoglycemia even though I also have insulin resistance? I feel like I am not getting anywhere even with diet, exercise, and medication. I still do not even understand how I can even have both. They contradict each other don't they?
Thank you for the question. We discuss this more in detail in this interview: Unmasking Diabetes Myths: Expert Insights and FAQs Answered! ruclips.net/video/F7W1sIJvGbQ/видео.html
Diabetes is a complex chronic illness - though sometimes Type 2 diabetes can be reversed with diet and lifestyle interventions. This video may explain it a bit further for you: ruclips.net/video/JA1vHscRV9U/видео.html. Please do let me know if you have any more questions for a future video. Thank you for the question!
Ive been low carb for months. Ive lpst almost 15 pounds. But my blood sugars wont go down. Drinking lots of ACV, cinnamon, walking 8000-10000 paces /day.
This is difficult to deal with, I'm sure. Have you had your A1C done lately? I have more videos and interviews on this topic coming soon. Sometimes the pancreas simply isn't able to produce enough insulin - this could be your case. I would suggest following up with a healthcare provider who can run some tests and get a better picture of what is going on in your case. Thank you for the comment and for your interest!
What if you don’t take insulin? I have always run high in the morning. I take Metforim 500 mg ER X 2 twice a day. Prandin 0.5 mg 3 x a day, Jardance 25 mg daily and I try hard. My blood sugars run from 145-185 in the mornings. I try to eat right. And I been trying to get my sugars down and eating right but they are still high. Is there anyway I do wake up hungry most mornings. I try not to eat after supper but if I do it’s usually something sugar free or popcorn. Is there anything else I can do to get it down.
Thank you for the information. It is welcoming to listen to an informative presentation without the buy my shake, buy my sponsor's supplements pills, eat only plants, eat only grass fed beef, etc.. Any readings and/or studies you could recommend about low carb diets would be great. I just discovered my so call healthy breakfast of rolled oats, banana, blueberries, and low fat creamer is doing (has done) more harm than good.
You are most welcome. Usually high sugar (fruit) and low protein can cause these issues. If possible, it may be good to speak to a dietician for some better options.
Great question. It’s hard to say what might be happening without looking at your case more closely. I would suggest asking a pharmacist, physician, and/or Certified Diabetes Educator. They should be able to investigate this for your particular case.
What about someone who is on Ozempic .5mg dose and their fasting glucose and A1C have considerably jumped in the last 3 months (A1C went from 6.7 to 8.1). Does that mean the .5mg Ozempic dose is no longer working and needs to be increased to the 1mg dose? I am referring to my husband who has Bipolar Disorder and developed T2DM from the Metabolic Syndrome caused by his meds. I wish more doctors and pharmacists like you would address those patients since in their case, the cause is the drugs but they can't just stop taking it which makes their T2DM a lot harder to control.
I suspect you will find that elevated sugar drives poor digestion of fat in the blood, which forces the fat to the liver and increases blood sugar because breaking the fat down releases the glycerol which can be converted into glucose, released back into blood already too full on energy that cells are locking out to preserve themselves in spite of increased insulin trying to force that energy in anyway. Forcing sugar into cells that do not need more energy is very likely a very bad idea, whether naturally or through medication. Eat much less energy in the form of sugar and fat and shrink your fat cells back to where they can properly store excess until needed and the protective mechanism of the body is restored.
Thank you for the question. This may be explained by something called the Dawn Phenomenon - which I explain in this follow-up video - I hope this is helpful! ruclips.net/video/JA1vHscRV9U/видео.html
Glucose doesn't accumulate during the night (you don't produce more than you need), but when you wake up; when you need it, because your cells are underfed. Especially in diabetics who besides insulin resistance often have liver problems as well. This problem gets worse if you use glucose lowering drugs that prevent glucose from entering the bloodstream (while your cells are demanding glucose), which means your liver has to work even harder and insulin resistance gets worse. Nothing improves your chance for remission as much as not using glucose lowering drugs, not even bariatric surgery. (source: Epidemiology of type 2 diabetes remission in Scotland in 2019: A cross-sectional population-based study). The best thing you can do to fight insulin resistance is build up muscles, each 10% increase in muscle mass is associated with 11% relative reduction in insulin resistance.
Good question. It really depends on each particular case. Most doctors will provide lifestyle counselling and guidance to start and then follow-up in 3-6 months. There are cases where, in order to avoid the microvascular and macrovascular complications mentioned in the video, prescribers may choose medication earlier on. Regardless of whether medication is prescribed, lifestyle interventions like diet and exercise are extremely important and as mentioned, reversal of type 2 diabetes can occur for many people when caught earlier enough and treated appropriately. Thank you for the question, I’m sure many people do wonder about the reasoning behind different approaches.
More information on this coming soon. The answer is not as straightforward as one may think. Understanding Insulin resistance is part of the foundation to understanding this process. Reducing sugar intake, increased dietary fibre and exercise, as mentioned the video are also helpful. Thank you for the comment and question. More to come soon.

I have the same scenario, after losing 20lb, I still got 130 in the morning😢

I have more videos and interviews coming on type 2 diabetes that will hopefully be helpful.
Good information and advice for everyone. I sent this to my brother who has been told his blood glucose is high. Thanks Lindsay.

Thank you, this is very educative. Blessings and thanks again for sharing.
Eight and a half minutes and I still don't know why my numbers are higher in the morning. Nothing here we Type II folks don't already know.
Dr Ken Berry or Dr Eric Berg have probably discussed this in their videos
I Excercise daily in the morning and in the evening, I walk, don’t eat anything with high carb, and yet my sugar is higher in the morning from 99 at the bed time to 121/124 in the morning, that’s my issue. I was hoping you will explain that.
I have a type 2 diabetes since I was 38 years old on February 7, 2017. I take metformin medication. My mother and I have type 2 diabetes mellitus without complications .. I am Prediabetes now.
I'm 44 years-old middle-aged man and nonsmoker person and never drinking nonalcoholic too.
Ever watch videos by Dr Ken Berry or Dr Eric Berg ?
Very useful and helpful information 👍
Glad you found it helpful. Thank you for the comment!
However, 2019 research has found that loss of beta cell function is reversible in the early stages of type 2 diabetes and does not cause permanent damage." (Reference in video description)
Some Type 2 Diabetes patients have lost up to 50% of Beta Cell function upon diagnosis however there is research showing that in some cases the pancreas can recover this function at least in part.

Extremely important questions have been answered,
I would love to have more legit info on Type 2 Diabetes.
I have been Diabetic for almost 8yrs now, initially I was not serious about it,
I was quite over weight, with a waist size of 38" .
Does this Dawn phenomenon, you are talking about affect our hb A1C in the long run?
Yes. The A1C is affected. .

You have insulin resistance. Cut sugars and processed foods out of your diet before it becomes worse and takes longer to correct.
What about the dawn effect, everyone has a higher glucose level in the morning, they say to wait an hour after waking up before testing your glucose.

Maybe you should consider cutting out the fruit at supper time. This may be too much glucose for your body to handle. Just a thought.
Try supplementing with GLYNAC. It has positive effects on glucose metabolism based on the latest research.
Try intermittent fasting daily. From 12 hours gradually longer, 16, 18, 20 hours, as you can. I do and got excellent results.

I get lower blood sugar readings 2 hours after eating than i do after 12 hours fasting.
This is because the liver will start producing its own glucose when the body is fasting, such as during sleep in order to maintain glucose levels. In the morning hormones like cortisol also raise blood glucose levels via this mechanism. In diabetes, the process is somewhat more complex.
Everything you said here is not new to any diabetic. I was anxious to listen hoping there’s something new to inform us on. Anyway thx

What is a high morning blood sugar
Great question. According to the American Diabetes Association, your blood sugar when you wake should be below 100 mg/dL (5.6 mmol/L) if you don’t have diabetes. If your fasting blood sugar level is consistently above 7, this is indicates a possible diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes.

Could you please tell us why liver produces high cholesterol ?
Is insulin resistance a fat toxicity problem? I’ve heard insulin doesn’t work because the excess fat causes the insulin receptor malfunction.
I have the same thing going on with me. No appetite. I too have to force myself to eat. Going to see the Doctor next week about it.

If one’s A1c is 6.1 should he take any kind of medication
Not only high in the morning, but high after walking on treadmill for 20 minutes (one mile) ...Stayed at 148...
I have type 2 what should I eat in the morning to get it down
Has there been any studies re Covid affecting blood sugar levels? My levels were perfect for 14 years without any medication then suddenly out of the blue they skyrocketed.
This is a very important question. COVID-19 infection, as is the case with other infections as well, can indeed temporarily cause changes in blood sugar levels. We do know however that the virus can invade every tissue in the body, and “several studies have suggested that adults face an increased risk of diabetes diagnosis after contracting COVID-19” (American Diabetes Association)
So yes, there can be a correlation.

Repeat the video over again until you understand @Malini Dhar
I reduced my carbs; I don't eat after 5 p.m. Before bed, I walk for 30 minutes. This helped me see good morning numbers.
3. Try and have your last meal/dinner by 7pm or 8pm if possible so you can go for a walk and it gives your body a 12 hour intermittent fasting period before your breakfast the next day
Nb. re 2. meal eating order , eating vegetables and protein gives your body a feeling of satiety so that the carb portion is reduced and also not easily digested to increase your glucose.
Nb. Also maybe look at your diet and ask your doctor / research the Mediterranean diet.
But it also means no unhealthy snacks at all times of the day. If you find this hard , take baby steps and try it
Hope this helps
I agree, the video is to general and touches on everything! Can we just concentrate on the Dawn Phenomenon and how to get rid of it.

Thanx. I noticed since of late I pee in my bed by 3 am. Is this due to the sugar.
Dr Ken Berry or Eric Berg
What is eating 'right'? Serious question-that doesn't give any real information.
Why is my 2 or 3 hrs after meal sometimes higher than my spike an hr after meal?
Great question. It’s hard to say what might be happening without looking at your case more closely. I would suggest asking a pharmacist, physician, and/or Certified Diabetes Educator. They should be able to investigate this for your particular case.
Having Anaemia, can it create pre diabetes. SA.
Hello, thank you for the question. I am not aware of anaemia being a precursor for diabetes.
I take Ceylon cinnamon capsules 4 times a day to keep my sugar down no more metformin for me.
the sugar level 220mg/dl after 1hour of food in take, is normal for all?
It is called the Dawn phenomenon
Why is it that my sugar level go high when fast for 24hrs
Thank you for the question. This may be explained by something called the Dawn Phenomenon - which I explain in this follow-up video - I hope this is helpful! ruclips.net/video/JA1vHscRV9U/видео.html
My last A1C was 5.1 however my fasting (morning) glucose readings are always higher than desirable (95 - 105). Why is that?
Below 120 u r OK
@@maxgelezni9620 below 99 is « normal » past 99 you’re pre-diabetic, at 120 is the diabetic call
Mine is high in the morning, then drops to normal levels and stays there after eating.
Go figure.
You didn’t actually give me a direct answer
Glucose doesn't accumulate during the night (you don't produce more than you need), but when you wake up; when you need it, because your cells are underfed.
Especially in diabetics who besides insulin resistance often have liver problems as well.
This problem gets worse if you use glucose lowering drugs that prevent glucose from entering the bloodstream (while your cells are demanding glucose),
which means your liver has to work even harder and insulin resistance gets worse.
Why do doctors like to prescribe medications without looking into root causes of the problem?
Mine is 198 when waking up
I thought you was going to tell us how to deal with an increase Blood sugar levels at night ???
More information on this coming soon. The answer is not as straightforward as one may think. Understanding Insulin resistance is part of the foundation to understanding this process. Reducing sugar intake, increased dietary fibre and exercise, as mentioned the video are also helpful. Thank you for the comment and question. More to come soon.
I don't take medication. I'm having no carb no sugar diet.
