I agree with this. A great comment. I do not like being identified with being a diabetic as it is not who I am. I have diabetes. My daughter has MS. We don’t call her a Multiple Sclerosic. My husband had cancer. We didn’t call him a canceric. And so on and so on. We all chose and choose to fight back against our diseases and not be identified with them as who we are.
This was meant to go with the comment from “Fight Back Against Diabetes”. A great comment. Sorry I put it in the wrong place.
Try broadening that outlook even more by acknowledging what we resist, persists and that we don't need to fight back, illness, viruses etc. That's a narrow euro centric fear based worldview.
I'm a seamstress and do this movement constantly when stepping on the sewing machine pedal to run the machine. So, though I have a sedentary job, it's beneficial. Wow!

Thank you for sharing. I love Dr Huberman and listen to many of his facinating podcasts. Your short video makes easier it easier to share to those unlikely to listen to his longer podcasts. It seems this we would be easy to track by people who regularly test their blood sugar. For me, the main issue is forgeting to do these simple pushups. If I'm sitting in a rocking chair it is easy to do and remember. I wonder if this rocking is as effective as I imagine the chair action would make the motion slightly easier. I hope people who regularly test their blood sugar will report on their results.
Great points! I imagine the rocking chair movement might be most effective if the heal is reaching the ground each time. It will definitely be interesting to see more data in a larger cohort in future.

The research here showed that they did the exercise for up to 270 minutes I believe, which probably isn’t practical for most people. I think the takeaway is that some movement, even seemingly as small as this calf raise can indeed have an impact. If I see any further information I will let you know.

Thank you so much for your explanations of how the body is supposed to regulate sugars. VERY informative. I will try these exercises to see if they can help controlling my blood sugar, but I am a skinny man and don't need a faster metabolism. I am actually trying to gain weight and am not sure how to do that effectively. Any tips would be very helpful.
I am in the same boat. I add a table spoon of almond butter with each meal. That would add at least 100 calories with zero sugar.
Yet another very informative and concise video. On a personal note, I have been on SGLT2 (empa-Jardiance) for 3 years now (2.5 as part of a double 'blind' study) and it has been a miracle drug for me (10 mg/day) with none-to-negligible side effect. Always consult your physician, but from what i can see in the future, with current eating trends/habits, this will be another 'aspirin' type of medication.
Jardiance 10 mg daily has been good for me for a year too - downside is it gave me minor fungal infections

I will venture a guess that we must experiment, but how extremely boring wouldn't you think?
How about a companion video about how to reduce chronic high insulin? My BG runs around 80-90 (non-diabetic), but my fasting insulin is 19. Currently ketovore/carnivore and IF.

Exactly how frequently should this exercise be done?
Well, how about crossing the legs & doing the Soleus push ups with the "other" leg weight too.....plus, one push up cycle should be lifting from the ball of the foot & lifting the toes from the heel too??? Maybe the 270 minutes/day could be reduced to get the "desired" results??? Just a thought....
It’s an interesting thought. Leg weights as well, could possibly have a similar impact.

The video shows performing the soleus pushup at a slower, consistent pace. What about performing it more rapidly like those who bounce their legs while sitting?
I don’t have any literature on this, so I can’t say. I tend to think that some movement is usually better than none though. Thank you for the comment.

What is considered high /low blood sugar ???
Great question. Blood sugar is measures in different units in Canada versus the US. Where are you from?
This proposed movement is quite slow. I find it easier, when sitting, to keep the heel slightly raised and let the leg shake, shake, at approximately 10Hz (10 times per second). The calf that produces this vibration. Este movimento proposto é bem lento. Acho mais fácil, ao sentar, ficar com o calcanhar ligeiramente levantado e deixar a perna tremer, tremer, a aproximadamente uns 10Hz (10 vezes por segundo). A batata da perna que produz esta vibração.

Another take on the situation: Since it is so bizarre that using this muscle would have this effect, why not, what-the-hell, investigate whether it is the flexing, actual contraction of the muscle that causes it, as opposed to working the muscle. If so, then a simple device could be constructed which would place a constantly rising/falling floorboard beneath the heel while sitting; effortless, automatic motion. No four hours of conscious effort required. Of course, the muscle would not be "worked," and if it is work that is required, no cigar. But it would seem that without resistance, very little "work" (F X D) is being performed, anyway. Just a thought.
less than 5min of stepper after approximately 110min of any meal keep my postprandial glucose levels under 130 mg/dl. I thought I might share that with whoever is reading this and interested in the subject.
However my fasting glucose level is normally around 110 mg/dl so there's something going on while I sleep. A video about this subject would be extremely useful. What causes the liver to release so much glucose at night time? why only the fasting glucose is high?

I haven't read about this for years but I know it's common.
As I was sitting here just now cross legged and pumping my one foot... I was thinking.... It may be normal so your body has something to work with when first rising in the morning before any food is available... If I was designing a body I might do something like that...

Nice to see you are doing the calf raise! I will cover this mechanism regarding sugar and the liver in a future video for sure. There is a distinct mechanism and it’s part of the key signs of Type 2 diabetes.

When the diabetic patient cooks after everyone in her house, sometimes its impossible to keep up with your own needs.
Your health is important. Who would cook for them if you're not there? Everyone in your home would benefit from healthier food and exercise. I wish you well.
When you say high blood sugar what would be considered high?
Great question. The unit of measure depends on where you live. Here in Canada a fasting glucose of higher than 7 is considered high. Before meals, a fasting glucose of between 4 and 7 mmol/l is considered optimal. These units of measure are different in the US.
Interestingly, the habit of rapidly foot tapping bouncing your knee up & down while sitting (often if you're anxious or nervous) would have a similar effect to your suggested knee press-up exercise? 🤔

Huberman says in his podcast on how to lose fat, that its been found that people who fidget eg tap feet, are thinner and lighter than would be expected by their calorie intake and level of other exercise.
4 hours??? Ridiculous. But it’s good news that a total of an hour can have more than a 10% effect.
Sadly, I checked my blood sugar before, did at least 10 minutes nonstop and then check the blood sugar after 15 minutes of ending the exercise and my reading was the same...
They talk of doing it some 270 minutes a day.
Don't give up. Try it for 3 months.
I did it it does help it takes time after 15 minutes or so
Just do it and give it time just like when I exercise about and hour later my sugar drops low and that doing heart rate exercise

This proves that the body hols on to energy regardless what it is, it is obvious ,to get rid of energy from the body it will take a much greater effort. The conclusion is you better be ready to work like you've never worked before if you want results.

Clickbait. Seen this technique on several channels, and on all of them there are numerous people saying it does not work. I tried it myself as well. It does not work. People need to stop being lazy and get away from their desks once in a while, get a treadmill or stationary bike. People give away exercise equipment for free all the time on craigslist. Go get one and use it.
I always do soleus push up one foot while balancing my whole body, i didn't know it has good benefits. 😅😅😅
Study said took four and a half hours a day to get the stated results. Seems to be a bit impractical. Definitely not a replacement for excercising

I would think it would help anyone who is diabetic or non-diabetic. Especially those who are somewhat sedentary or unable to get as much movement in a day that they would like.
While this is true, eating less sugar and carbs will also reduce your blood glucose 😂

I agree with you completely. I had type 2 diabetes that is now in remission because of my low carbohydrate diet AKA Keto and even though my A1C is now 4.8 I am still insulin resistant because my morning blood sugar is around 115 but doing this exercise I do it a few times a day 10 minutes to clip but I also walk a mile a day in addition really helps me getting my insulin resistance under control and I can tell because my morning blood sugar is no longer 130. But the truth is as you said diet alone can be enough there are plenty of disabled people who lose weight I put diabetes in remission because of #properhumandiet
@@gaganchadha6149 for a type 1 diabetic its a lost cause without medication. A type 2 is clearly caused by bad nutrition. So while the solution can involve many things, stopping the cause is absolutely one of them...
Yes i agree 100%. You cannot exercise you way out of a high carb diet. If you're prediabetic or diabetic, go very low carb (from 0 to 50g according to your own blood sugar results).

Seems to make no sense, but, so what? Lots of observed truths are counterintuitive. My question: Has anyone considered the idea of fatiguing this muscle by for example, heel raises with weights, or using your body as a weight on a stair, with some significantly shorter time of exercise. Because, that would be preferable to four hours, I presume, every day. That seems unsustainable.
