No, Italy is absolutely not overrated. I have been going there since I was 14.
    Italy is heaven on earth.
Being French, I have learnt Italian rather easily and I plan to retire there, I have just bought an apartment in Umbria. When I am in Italy, I feel like being among my cousins.

I was in Italy last year in September. My heritage hails from the southern part of the country in Napoli. I have friends I've known in Bologna for about 16 years, and they couldn't wait for me to come. Our first stop was Rome which was amazing, followed by the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, taking a boat to the island of Capri, then putting the anchor down and swimming in the ocean. Then up to Venice, and finally Bologna. While in Venice, I went where the locals were, we ate at Al Timon there and it was delicious. When I got to Bologna, my friend there brought us to a place to eat, and another friend there showed up even though his son was sick, he wanted to be able to see me.
The next day my friend brought me to the Ferrari museum which I loved and than took me out to eat. It helps knowing people there as they can help guide you and bring you to the best spots. I laugh when people say the food wasn't good because they got suckered into a place advertising a tourist menu, rather than going to the places where the locals go. Or the guys that are yelling at you to come check out the place. A place with great food will speak for itself, not a guy yelling at you to come in.
Italy is the only country I've ever been to and I don't really need to go anywhere else. I feel like it's my second home there, as there is where the family began before they came to the United States. People with Italian heritage should connect with their roots. Trust me, I cried when flying out of Rome back home to New York. A part of my heart was left there and there is just so much to see but not enough time. I will be going back though because for me, I don't think anything else as a package can compete with Italia. Food, language, wine, cars, history, architecture, the people, the scenery and the mere fact that Italia is basically an open art museum. You'll find tons of stuff that you couldn't find in other countries. Can't wait to go back.

Brilliant! That is REAL Italy. I had a big grin on my face the entire video. Even in Rome, or Venice, or Florence... you can have a local "small town experience" if you choose to. Get off the beaten path. Stay in a room above a family restaurant. Shop at the grocery store. Go to a vinaria for your wine. And most importantly, slow the hell down. Sit somewhere and do nothing but watch, listen, and smell. Don't do anything in a timely manner. That is when travel is at it's best. impromptu. Be open to a variety of options. Do and try new things. Please communicate with locals, even if you don't speak the language. It's really hard not to fall in love with Italy. It seeps into your bones. Once you have been there, you will always feel the pull to go back. It feels like home.

Union Pay is a Mainland China banking system used exclusively in China and its special admin regions such as HK and Macau. Yet its a dominant payment system in Florence. Florence is a nice place, but people really can't see past their own noses at what's happening to a country that once had the most fantastic architecture, but now sits in literal ruins.

it is we Italians who underestimate ourselves, Italy, with its wealth of art, culture and natural beauty, has long been the leader of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world, and we invest nothing in Rome, the Eternal City .... the other nations invest a lot in their cities and capitals, Tokyo, London, Paris ecc.

Overrated in terms of what? In my personal opinion, nightlife can be a bit disappointing. In comparison to what Spain and Greece have to offer. But, is nightlife what you go to Italy for? For me, the most underrated thing about Italy is that fact that is still exists as a singe nation, that foreigners think of Italy as one country and can visually imagine an 'Italian' identity. And, for this, hats off to Italian politicians and the ordinary folk. And then there is the issue of language. 'Italians' have somehow managed to replace their dialects (languages really) with Italian. It took a century to do it, but again RESPECT from me. RESPECT. I always, always ask myself, we in Yugoslavia all speak the same language (apart from the Slovenes, to some extent), are all South-Slavs and YET, could not do it. WHY? It does not make any sense to me.

Pepperoni is an American English word meaning spicy salami. We have spicy salami in Italy, it's more common in southern Italy. So it's possible to not find it in small shops in northern Italy. But I see you went to Esselunga supermarket, and they surely have it!! Just search for "salame piccante" o "salsiccia calabrese". When you go to a pizzeria, if you like "pepperoni pizza" ask for "pizza con salame piccante", "peperoni" (just one P letter) means peppers, in Italy, so if you ask for "pizza con pepperoni" they'll bring you pizza with peppers!

yes Italy is overrated unfortunatelly, but not because of the country in itself but because of total social decadence. All those who believe in those proverbial italian myths just do not know a thing. Food? highest European antibiotic usage in livestock farming. Fashion? all stocks are sold abroad, largest usage of synthetic fibers. Latin lovers? higest spread of infertility and sexual disfunctions. Family values? lowest natality in the world. Hygiene? cities covered by dog shits. Monuments? collapse of part of POMPEI tells you the story.
In all honesty, as Italian, I find it annoying when foreigners witness a tragedy from some delusional tourist resort and also have the bad taste to villify that with that sort of stupid comments.

. Any region, any province, any village has its history and its' heritage..
As an Italian , 64yo, and having travelled in all the nation really a lot of times, i can say i still miss a good 3o-40% of these beauties...

Stop using that stupid mandolino sound!!!! Is not related to the whole country is just a chavy southern folk music.
I beg you Brits and Americans to stop to use any tarantella and mandolino as soundtrack when you talk about Italy! We seriously find it annoying.

In Italian Peperoni are sweet peppers. If you want a pepperoni pizza, you can ask for a Diavola, wich is with "salame piccante", spicy sausage.

If you don't like Italy go to Margate or probably Bognor Regis and stay there !! If you decide to go to Italy don't forget to apply for a VISA ( remember you are out of Europe) plus get enough money to support yourself that what we are going to ask you at the borders control .

I have been to so many countries, but came back to Italy more times than all my other trips combined. Italy has so much to offer from everthing: culture, heritage, beaches, mountains, lakes, architecture, food, very nice people, beautiful passionate girls and much more. Rome, Venice, Florence are maybe 1% of what the country has to offer. I was never disappointed (well, to be honest, one single time yes: I made some really bad experiences in Taranto. Don't go there)

Omg Taranto! It's just about the port and Ilva heavy industry and it's enormous pollution with a number of cancer cases much higher than the national stats. Just pass around it!

Finora era l'unica volta della mia vita che io sia partito da un posto prima della data prevista...

I've never seen a video about Americans visiting Italy that does not end up talking about mafia or mentioning mafia here and there.. Although is a matter of fact that there was/is mafia in Italy, there is crime and criminal organization all over the world (that's what mafia is), so no need to bring up this all the time.. like you guys say in the video there is a lot more in Italy then mafia..
