I'm from those areas. and I wanted to suggest to those who want to visit these areas, and do not want to be surrounded by many people to visit in May or September. Salento is not well known by foreigners but by Italians yes, so in the summer many people come on vacation (Sorry for my english). I love my land, beautiful video!! Ciaoooo
Martina Stefanelli Thank you Martina, great suggestion! I had to cancel my first holiday to Italy due to COVID. I will try for May or June in southern Italy. You English is great and I hope to do well with my studies in Italian 👍🏻
@@mharrisona5526 You are welcome !! I hope you like Italy, and I am sure you will become very fluent in Italian, good luck!
My father is from Galatina, I visited Just to see his home town and was blow away by the beauty of that whole area. Don’t tell too many people though😀
Torneremo 2021 a maggio. Non vediamo l'ora!
@@mharrisona5526 i would go in the first half of june as children break up for summer mid way through june , it may get busier or more expensive when they are on holiday
NO TOURISTS ... in October ... from June to the end of August salento it is packed with people
Yes, Put on a pully, scarf and out to sea!!!!! LOL
But they're all Italian tourists, I think for strangers it is an unknown place respect to other Italian destinations
@@christiantonello8905 nah, october is still warm around here
The point is: Italy is the most fantastic tourist destination. The reason is that you can find everything there. Crystal water beaches in the south, wonderful mountains in the north, hills in the center, arts, history, tradition and everywhere fantastic food !!!! Each place has its own local food, completely different if you just move 50 kms.....and I agree with you....avoid the crowded destination like Venezia, Firenze, Roma.....ok...visit them, but take your time to travel out of them and find the hidden gems that are scattered all around.
Bingo. I've been to Italy twice, and yes, I've been to Venice and stayed in Milan, but our stays have been in Padova, Bologna, La Spezia, Torino, Ravenna, Parma, Mantova and Cortina. Italians know these places, but international tourists, not so much.
Cm'on what's this! Are you selling out our greatest historical, artistical, architectural cities this cheap! "Avoid them"?!?! Naaaa! There's A TON more to see and do, FOR SURE! But let's not always underrate home.
Are you Italian?
@@nni9310 yes, but I have been living abroad for the last 22 years. I go back to Italy about twice a year
@@hugolafhugolaf I am from Bologna and lived many years in Ravenna ...
I wish Salento was a hidden gem. During summer it's packed with people, one of the busiest places in south italy
You just need to avoid the July/August period and you're sorted!
You’re right, but nice things are for sharing! 🤗
I was going to say "no tourists because of covid and low season"... in summer is way too busy
That’s true. Salento might be a hidden gem to foreigners but it’s definitely not to italians... my mother is from Lecce and we used to spend our holidays there and I can definitely tell that tourism in Salento has peaked in the last few years...
So what is a true hidden gem in southern Italy?
Lecce is called the Florence (Firenze, Tuscan, Italy) of the South of Italy.
It's not true! Gregorovius, a german historian called Lecce "the Florence of Baroque" that is quite different ;)
Miss not being able to go to Italy! Such a great place.
😚❤ at least you absolutely deserve to take an italian kiss
Very special, let’s hope we can get back to travelling soon 🙏
I love traveling, can I make friends with you
Salento is one of the most touristy areas of Italy... Although it is mainly popular among Italians. I've spent there 2 summers, years ago. It was simply packed with tourists, but since I lived with locals, we were able to avoid the crowds. Besides, I worked in a restaurant specialised in Salento's cuisine, and those Pasticciotti ruined my health 😅
As a Salentinian, thank you. This video is beautiful.
I'd suggest to come in May or September, even in October the sea is still warm. But not during the "high season" (June to August) because you'll find it jammed with tourists, beaches full of people and long queue of cars.
i hope someday to visit, had thought December or January, but, am so happy to learn May or September there are fewer tourists.
@@tomeemerson it's a bit quiet during the winter, because there's not much to do.
This entire Italy series has been fantastic. What a pleasant surprise for it to happen during this pandemic! This area looks stunning! Your vlogs have the quality of a big production and I forget that I am watching RUclips. This is better than anything you will find on the Travel Channel.
We have been there 4 Weeks in 1987 for Honeymoon. Absoloutly breathtaken.
Come back!!! 1987 😱 time for a refresh course 💫
Wow! Italy is amazing! I’m in love with the places in there! Thank you for this awesome video and be safe! :)
Worth a visit 🙏💫
It's true that Puglia has been a very popular destination for Italian tourists from the north for a long time now, but in recent years the secret is out and more foreigners are going there too. The Salento (southern part of Puglia) is now getting pretty well known, so next time you go I'd recommend you try the northern part of Puglia which is still more known to Italians and less to foreigners. The Gargano promontory in the north of Puglia is strewn with beautiful towns, gorgeous Adriatic coast beaches, and even less mass tourism. The food is also fantastic, for example you should definitely visit a trabucco. They are old wooden structures built on the edge of a cliff that used to be used for fishing, they look like old sail boats with big wooden masts hanging out over the sea where they lower nets down. Many were abandoned but now have been repurposed into amazing local seafood restaurants where they serve incredible food from whatever they catch, and have great outdoor seating to enjoy the views with an aperitivo. Just like all of the south, the food is remarkably inexpensive especially given you are being served the best quality seafood literally caught right there, and local produce from the surrounding farms. In a big city elsewhere in Europe you would pay ten times the price for food this good. I would recommend the Trabucco da Mimì which is near the town of Peschici, also very much worth visiting.
Thanks
I love you Italy beautiful and natural beautiful clean rich country Italy 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹 bro

Chiagnene e fottene come dicono a Napoli.
Salento Is pretty famous in Italy, usually there are many italian tourists, I think that without corona you could see more people
I love Italy and this will be my next destination, thanks so much for sharing this gem. I live in Salento and I am proud of my land💖
I've been to Lecce twice, both in August during their Sant'Oronzo celebration. Fantastic! On the main plaza is a modern raised stage with modern acts, while at the corner of the plaza is a sunken Roman amphitheater where the more traditional music is performed. At sunset the entire old core of the town, built from a soft creamy limestone, is hit by the light and makes the buildings look like they are carved from butter. Totally surreal. Lovely Lecce. See you next August.
I was born in Puglia, and my birthday is Oronzo
sad face, I wish I was there, love Italy. Dreaming of our return for a holiday. Will put this region on our bucket list.
I definitely recommend it!!
Guys visit polignano a mare would love to see you guys explore that place and especially the cave restaurant. It’s on my bucket list
Loved the video! We live in London but my partner is from Salento and we go there every year to visit family and friends. What you have shown us is so genuine and we are glad that you introduced Salento to the world!
May I ask if you are Japanese?
ahhh I can't wait to explore Southern Italy😍❤️
Wow! Stunning! We love to explore beyond the tourist areas! I also appreciate that you show the maps! Very helpful! Another fabulous video!!!!
You should visit sometime 🙏💫
Em’s giggles and both your sense of humor made this video fun to watch on top of the gorgeous scenery. Definitely my next stop after the pandemic
As an italian, i go every year in Puglia, Calabria and Campania. I really advice u to go in Tropea ( Calabria region), Ostuni (Puglia region), and Naples ( Campania region). The last one is really undervalued, but is full of history.
You should watch the (Gay themed) Movie "Loose Cannons" (Italian: Mine vaganti). It's set in Lecce. This made me wanting to travel there. I plan on going there next year.
well, Iàve been a guest to this years Food and Travel Awards in Italy, and Salento ranked as the 2020 touristic destination, so is not a hidden gem at all.
Let’s call it special rather than hidden!!
it is cause there's not many foreigner people outside of italy and germany, which is the most traveler's i meet on the beach!
What I love about you two is that your keeping it real, not putting on airs (first class all the way, give me a break) Hope you continue to grow.
Our Underrated place was Kintyre Peninsula in Scotland. We were the only tourists. Locals were often surprised to see us. It was so quiet and beautiful with sweeping beaches.-Shawna🍁
The beaches in the north of Scotland are easily the most beautiful in the world, many with beautiful clear green water (like Castle Varrich), and with no people on them. And contrary to popular opinion it does not rain all the time!
I have no idea why you two have not been snatched by any of the TV channels. You do your show, professionally and better than I have seen on television. Keep it going, great informative, and often humorous and certainly a pleasure watching you both. 👍
I keep telling people to visit Puglia! Glad you guys enjoyed this beautiful place. Please do visit Torre Lapillo or Punta prosciutto next time :)
The pasticciotto yum yum!!! hahaha
You make me happy. Just had to say it. SADNESS OUT!
I definently gonna visit this place!😍😍😍🔥🔥🔥
We will be waiting 💫
Being in Lecce would make me so emotional. Hard to explain why but I think I would be overwhelmed by the beauty!
I keep coming back to this video - one of your best films. We are now planning our own Dolomites to Puglia roadtrip, inspired by your travels. Thank you!
Hope u did well….great choice!
The place I visited and was surprised that no one had ever recommended, was Bradford, UK ;)
Who is it?
Great video! The water looks fantastic, so blue... What about Alberobello? or Ostuni?
That place is fantastic, and the rock hard graffiti was......interesting, LOL!
Thanks for showing this area of Italy 🇮🇹. Such lovely views and it's looks like you had a great time. Also video itself was shot so well you can tell a lot went into it. Curious how much did that stunt driver cost 🤔
lol
I love traveling, can I make friends with you
I'd say it's packed in July-August, but it is worth to visit all year round!! Home sweet home!
Why's the steering wheel on the right side of the car? Did you bring this car from the UK?
So much fun and love how you attempt Italian... Good on you... At least you tried and Alex drove ... I just thought because Emma gets car sick. Miss Italy 🇮🇹 . Food was fabulous. We have amazing beaches here in Australia 🇦🇺 too. Love from Kayleen and Mark
I can't wait anymore to Jump in Italy . 😊😊

I have started to follow you a few days ago and I love the way you share your trips and your laugh is so contagious!!! Thank you!!!
Agree. I've been watching Travel Beans for quite some time. They are my favorite YT channel. Welcome and keep watching.
No tourists? Well, there is a pandemic.. October 2020? Italians know this area quite well..
Nestled in the heart of Puglia, Lecce is a city that effortlessly blends ancient history with breathtaking Baroque architecture. Its intricate stonework, adorned with intricate carvings and ornate details, has earned it the nickname "Florence of the South." The city's historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a labyrinth of narrow streets lined with stunning churches, palaces, and squares. From the majestic Basilica of Santa Croce to the charming Piazza del Duomo, Lecce offers a feast for the senses.
Beyond its architectural wonders, Lecce boasts a vibrant cultural scene, delicious cuisine, and stunning beaches. Immerse yourself in the local traditions, savor fresh seafood delicacies, and explore the nearby coastal towns. Whether you're a history buff, an art lover, or simply seeking a relaxing getaway, Lecce is a destination that will leave you enchanted.
Emma, sei bellissima!!! Also you, Alex, a little bit! ;)
It was a secret till you could not help making a video about it.
Hi Beans!!!! What a diamond!!! It looks like my next year's holiday destination... If we can....
Talking places no one recommends: Italy, everyone goes to PISA... ok, have to see... but nothing special... but in the shadow of Pisa is the most amazing Italian City, LUCCA!!!!!! What a place!!!! Magic!!!
Pisa - ‘nothing special’?? I found it amazingly beautiful and well worth visiting. Also did Lucca, pretty place.
Go to Punta Aderci beach in Abruzzo too! Another jem in Italy. It's also a natural park and you can reach it only by a local bus. Crystal clear water, sand or pebbles.
I have to say the small island of Gozo next to Malta is one of our most favourite that no one has ever recommended but is the best.
I’ve wanted to go to Puglia ever since I saw a beautiful trullo listed on Airbnb three years ago. What time of year were you there?
Gorgeous place. Croatia have similar beaches they share the Adriatic ocean. So beautiful!
came to Trieste (nord-est Italy) It's amazing!!
Gorgeous scenery and it's great you're showing more of Italy than just the regular tourist trail that English speaking tourists do. The pastry pasticciotto is pronounced 'pas-CHOT-to' lots of swallowed consonants and a few blended vowels!
Underrated places? Maybe for British visitors!!!
Wow! Thank you so much for this amazing video. I will be going to Lecce for one week of language and culture immersion, but I will make sure I visit all these amazing places, especially the beaches.
I read that the dark dough (of your sandwich, and perhaps that yummy pastry) comes from unrefined barley. I can't wait to eat that exact veggie sandwich. Thanks a million!
🇮🇹 Thank you so much ,, you really present a very nice way of getting to know places 🇳🇴
You need to check out Luca & Sara from LeAw, 2 Italian travelers and youtubers! They are currently in Italy and their videos are top level!
Iam a greeeeat fan from Puglia!!!!!!!! All the little towns, the villages, the secret and lonely beaches. I know Italia and i love all, but Puglia has a special charme!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aubergene... you are so English! I love your pronunciation.
Bella Italia
Gallipoli and Santa Maria di Leuca are nice places too.
Another nice video. Keep it up guys
Would love to go. I'm in the U.S. and did my DNA ancenstry through 23andme. It shows that my whole ancestry is from Bari and Lecce. It's crazy. I need to go here! Beautiful.
Ha! Ive been following you for years now! In 33 day I leave Canada for Corigliano D'otranto where I've rented an apartment for a month. so I'm doing research and this old video came up! Cool, its like hearing from old friends, their view of where you're going!!. edited to add, congratulations!!! you've just been married!!
Wonderful and beautiful video bro
No way…….. I’m from Nardó (Lecce) I think you need to be back to remake the video… do you forget to go to Porto Selvaggio… first and unique part in Italy where we have natural park with the tropical weather and fish…. watching the sunset there is like being reborn… if you go.. let me know…
Great video very informative! Thanks for sharing.
Lovely video! Just retired and moving to southern Italy permanently so your videos are very helpful for planning the next phase of my life. Any recommendation for AirBNB in Lecce or Otranto? Thank you again!
You guys are wonderful, I enjoy watching your clips, keep doing the good job you do. 🇷🇴🏴
All those places are, unfortunately, already well known. Thanks for your video and kind words. From Salento with love.
A not very popular area i discover this summer in Italy is the Umbria region and those lovely medieval towns like Spello, Gubbio, Assisi, Perugia etc. Lovely
In fact this region is known as an alternative to Tuscany for the English, German and Dutch who bought houses here. Like Ed Sheeran who bought a villa in Paciano, near Lake Trasimeno.
The greenest region
I love Salento and particularly Otranto.
Otranto is in my heart, in my soul and in my blood as for 'lu sole, lu mare e lu ientu' that means 'the sun, the sea and the wind'.
I'm from Caserta, do you know the 'Reggia di Caserta'?, and I love my whole Italy: the best place to live...
سبحان الله ..شكرا على الجولة الجميلة 😘😘
Beautiful area, been in Salento this year for the first time. Visited Gallipoli and Lecce, both very charming. Seen beautiful beaches with crystal clear water, and probably the best thing is that the area is not very busy with tourist yet. Try spumone and cime di rapa pasta which is kind of traditional for the area. Thank you for the video!
Bari and Lecce are definitely next on my list. Thanks. Quite a nice video with breathtaking water and beaches. #chompingchampion
Look I'm Italian I have visited many beaches In my country there are many beautiful places for example in Sardinia there is the pink beach It is a breathtaking sight. There is amalfi capri in the Sorrento peninsula. While in the video they did not show another very beautiful place in Salento as the "Gargano" and the "tremiti islands" are wonderful. From north to south Italy, in addition to breathtaking spectacles and scenery, there is the truth of many colors and shades of the sea.

Never been to Italy so its lovley to see what you have shown. Love the Beach in Dornoch scotland .😜
I was really very amazed by Ohrid in North Macedonia. Ist a little town by the see. Although friends told me about it, I didn`t expect to be as beautiful as it really was at the end. And the great food! All this was soooo icerdibly cheap…
As always, thank you so much. I frigging needed this today. A little audio-visual slice of heaven. Safe travels. Drink 6 for me... I'm a big guy. Ciao ciao
I am Italian...Salento is always deserted, great find! Even us Italians didnt know about it. go there and enjoy long and quiet beaches.
I'm 1/4 from near Lecce and 1/4 from Bari.
On the one hand I am very happy you are showing non-Italians these gems, but on the other one I hope they don't get as crowded as the most known tourist spots.
ps. Yeah you did butcher "pasticciotto" and the stress in "òtranto", but it's ok, we understand ;)
It’s bloody Nutella inside....hahahahaha!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait to visit this area when Europe opens up again to those of us in the U.S.
So beautiful! I was in Bari last year and loved it, considered going further south to where you went, but everyone raved about Rome, Firenze and such...... so wish I went south!! next time though :) thanks for the vid! xx
Yes, as some others also say here - the video was certainly taken during the low season. We visited Baia dei Turchi in July this year and it was almost impossible to find a parking place…..the beach overcrowded….also in Otranto there were a lot of people…it should be said that the situation is very different here in July and August….not that impressive, pity….🙋🤷♂️…
Wow....... just Wow!!!

Angry from Bradford (Just Kidding!!) Love your videos.
Fun fact: your "Salento" pronunciation (like english subs do) reminds me to "Cilento", which is another gorgeous undiscovered italian gem. Alongside with its inborn cultural, human, nature (and many others) riches, this part of Italy is where "dieta mediterranea" comes from. That is not only a diet stuff, but a certain way of life. But hey, shhhhhhhhh, don't spread this across the world.....some gems has to remains well hidden, in order to be called gems.
Beautiful parts of Italy! Tjr only problem now is those places will eventually get flooded with British tourists and will just go downhill from there on!! What a terrible terrible shame!!!🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲
