In this Italy travel guide video, we show you why you must visit Puglia and some of the best things to do in Italy. After our Salento travel vlogs we headed to a different part of Apulia. We had no idea you could swim in ancient ruins here - a new MUST DO in Italy and definitely one of Italy's best beaches. We visit the picturesque towns of Polignano a Mare and Ostuni. As well as the biblical cave town of Matera. We also sample some of the local food, including a traditional Italian snack of frise, prosecco, and olives! This day was definitely the highlight of our south Italy travel vlog series so far!

Given the news cycle here in the US currently, you two are a lifeline of sorts. Somewhere out there, there's still the simple pleasure of walking down the street in a beautiful place.

We visited Puglia in 2018 and prebooked (in Oct 2017) our spot at Grotta Palazzese in beautiful Polignano a Mare. To say the least the experience was Amazing, the ambience, the food, the view, the surroundings and I'm pleased to report they are not pretentious at all. There were couples, private party group, groups of 4-6 seated all around up and downstairs in the grotto. A tip its cheaper at lunchtime and if you go at night book the second seating so you can stay as long as you want. Polignano a Mare has everything, historic centre, beaches, grottos and as beautiful as it looks. We stayed 5 nights at Sassi di Matera and recommend it highly especially if you are a historic buff. Thank you for bringing these wonderful memories to us. Our trip this year was cancelled and we are living it through your videos :)

I live on the west coast of Sardinia, which hosts one of the most desirable beaches known to the island, Is Arutas. It is a "pebble" beach, not in that it is rocky, but that the sand is little rice shaped/sized grains of quartz! They are smooth, and colorful, and an absolute marvel. Every year, tourists are fined thousands of euros for trying to steal the "sand", it's THAT beautiful! Anyway, after going to a beach where the "sand" just rolls off of your body, I'm spoiled, and despise sandy beaches where everything clings and sticks and gets mucked up into your lotions and oils. Don't hate on pebbly beaches just yet, until you've experienced them all!

Frisa is more like a rusk. The frisa gets soften by soaking in salted water before topping with tomatoes, salt, olive oil & oreganum. My grandparents told me that when they were kids taking dry frisas to the beach and use the sea water to soak was very common.

Went to Cisternino in May 2019, it rained 5 days out of 7, stayed in a trullo with a fireplace, just as well, we needed it. Would like to go in June and hopefully the weather would be better. Nice place despite the rain ,, mi amo Italia

Polignano! I used to live and work there! In the 1980s. My parents had a bodega there for many years. My family still live in Italy - they live in Conversano which is very near to Polignano. Have you been there? Or passed by it? Grotta Palazzese is the restaurant in the cave. I attended a wedding there! I moved back to the states many years ago. Oh the memories - thank you for sharing your adventures in my old stomping ground!!!!

Subscribed 😊If I may suggest, definitely some places in central Italy: Civita di Bagnoregio, Lago del Turano (Lazio), Pitigliano, Terme di Saturnia (Tuscany), Orvieto, Spello, Rasiglia (Umbria), Civitella del Tronto (Abruzzo), Grottammare Alta (Marche). But at the end of the day, even the smallest village has something beautiful to offer in Italy (foreign people just don't know all of them)😉

Those places are not “secret”! everyone in Italy knows it and I can’t understand why visitors, especially from the US doesn’t know their existence. Puglia is my region of origin, but all the south of Italy offers paradise beaches, archeological sites, arts, amazing food and beautiful towns where especially in the evening on summer the atmosphere is unique.

I think most first time travelers always focus on the major spots like Rome, Florence and Venice. I don't think I have ever met any first time travelers that are willing to skip out of those other major sites for the south of Italy and unfortunately, many will only be able to travel once to Italy. There are so many lovely areas in Italy to see and the south is most definitely a must for us, so after a few years of saying we need to travel there, we finally booked our holiday for next year in June and cannot wait to explore this spectular region. 3 nts in Martina Franca and 3 nts in Lecce. From there, we are heading to Tropea for some relaxing time at the beach.

Have you been to Orvieto? Thats then one I stumbled upon by chance. Go see the duomo. The facade i fantastic but the paintings on the walls and the ceilings in one of the chappels inside are breathtaking. It is said that these inspired Michelangelo before he made his version in the Vatican.
Orvieto is half way between Rome and Florence, close to the main motorway.

If you plan to see Orvieto (really great city) you can complete the area with cities built on "tufo" rock, visiting Civita di Bagnoregio, Pitigliano, Sorano and Sovana. Civita di Bagnoregio, as Orvieto, is worldwide famous, but Pitigliano area is not so popular outside Italy, but really dramatic

I watched the videos with the spectaculars beach cities at Puglia, bu I hadn't see anything about Trani, near Matera, where my italian family live. It us so beautiful too. I had the opportunity to go once to Weston beach at U.K. and is perfectly understandable your astonishing state in Puglia! haha!
