I used to have ALOT of fun with my single cam with an eBay turbo on 8 psi on a bone stock engine. I had it tuned on 15 psi at one point, and it pulled REALLY hard, but I just wanted to turn it down to a fun streetable car and 8 psi gave it plenty of fun power and I could take out modified WRXs and Mazdaspeed 3s at the track.
That is awesome we love stories like this good job bro
I'm currently doing this exact thing!! Do you have any suggestions as far as an ECU solutions?

Glad to see a good breather setup. Nobody realizes how critical that is. Nice work.
Yeah man I put them on all my cars and I made sure my mate put one on his
That exhaust is beautiful! So glad to see a full exhaust rather than a cheap dump right out of the damned hood or fender!
if we do that in Australia we get put in jail for a day and fined $10,000
Its really popular here in the states mainly cuz it's cheap, easier and gives best performance/backpressure. With that said I'm doing full 3" split to duals on my Camaro. That is a well done setup, super nice exhaust and sounds awesome.
@@BDauto86 that’s awesome man, I wish we got camaros here
@@TURBOTRISTO I know the feeling I wish we had Holden's lol.
We got a short run of Camaro, firebird and GTOs with LS motors that used to be great budget performance cars. The prices jumped up alot over a few years, same with Hondas if there any decent shape. Our backup vehicle is a Cr-v b20, I would like to put a small turbo on after other projects are done. We love the car, just want alil more spicy lol
@@BDauto86 do it bro b20 doesn’t like much boost though
Love seeing the casual cruises and banter with folks. Seeing the losses is fun, it’s a d16 at the end of the day but it’s lovely
The same car is now a b18 big turbo should make 3-4 times that power as it’s a fully sleeved block

That’s all good man hahha the owner doesn’t care haha
Man that exhaust is a thing of BEAUTY! So is your civic! New sub here -- super in love with m d16y8. 8psi is what I'm on currently just a tune from home. Lifted my head my first trip out then went with ARP studs and a bit less boost hahaha Be well fam!
Thanks for watching bro I appreciate the sub
Super nice and clean build mate , it's nice to see one done right and using quality components . I have a very similar build in an EK sedan and it's alot of fun . Subscribed !
Thank you very much!, this car has actually been put back to stock for sale, the owner had it just over 300 hp but it kept lifting the head, aussie tuners need to understand these motors dont love heaps of timing
@@TURBOTRISTO Yeah up around 20 lbs it's usually necessary to drill and tap the block for larger headstuds. I thought mine was puking oil out from between the head and block on 17 lbs but it turned out to be the cheap valve cover gasket I used. Keep your head up down there I know times are tough for you guys but stay safe and have fun !
@@popslops2188 thanks Pops! 💚💚💚💚
Awesome content been watching your videos! Seriously considering ditching the idea of a b/k swap after seeing your vids. The car sounds fantastic!!
thanks bro Glad you like them!
The d16y8 should handle 500whp all day long when it is built. Lifting the head shouldn't be an issue until around 600whp with head studs. A bunch of people out here are making 500 with just a cheap set of rods and some vitara pistons.
That’s exactly what this build was supposed to be but the tuners here crank the timing and blow the engines
@@TURBOTRISTO Yeah that sucks to hear. I haven't made big power with my Civic yet. I have been focusing on getting my Prelude built and the Civic kind of got put on the back burner for the last few years. It is an EM1 though so it is a b series car (b20z2/b16a2 swapped) and needs some engine work after I found the coolant mixing in the oil pan. I was actually toying with the idea of throwing a d16 in just to get it back up and running cheap but decided to just wait until I have the money to k swap it.
Hahahaha loved the race!
The guy was proper surprised!
He sure was I’m so pissed I missed 3rd I did I pull in 3rd before that and it went to 165km/hr
Brings back memories from my D16Y8 days when I ran a 50 Shot of nitrous I could pull a 14.8 Quarter with just that and the AEM on a non Limited slip. I ditched the 50 shot Nitrous and went with the T3\T4 Turbo and a tuner and thing was getting about 235 + plus HP at 10 PSI street and 14 PSI on the Track thing went from high 14s to low 13s So much fun. That was on the EG chassis 2 door coupe.
Sounds mint man I woulda love to see it
Car might not have 500hp but it looks very fun and actually driveable on the street. Great work!
it sure was fun, we ended up getting the synchro's done in the gear box. it was a bit clapped out and didn't like going into gear

@@TURBOTRISTO yeah I learnt from your videos man haha
just running a stock d16 I know how much of a difference letting these motors breath with a less restrictive exhaust makes, better fuel economy no doubt. can't wait till I get things more sorted and start my journey making more power. but might go high compression first and then do a turbo build next. might add that I currently have an ej8 that had it's engine and tranny swapped for the y7 variants, but found a d16y8 with tranny for $200, just a shame I had to dismantle it because I was in a tough spot to even transport it seeing as I had no hoist or stand and had to take it apart in the back of my pickup just so I could lift it and store it. the gasket surface of the head got scrapped so now I have to mill it. so might as well just completely rebuild the y8 and either do a mini me swap or use the whole engine and remove the y7 components all together. the y7 does seem to get good fuel economy despite having the original ecu and being electronically limited to 5.6k rpm aka the vtec switchover
Damn man that’s unlucky, hopefully it gets sorted soon
Backpressure on these is actually dangerous too. You want the least restrictive exhaust possible because backpressure leads to reversion which limits the amount of timing you can run.
Nice video man how I love these small engines on boost 😍
So do I bro
Wow that exhaust looks really really nice!
It’s amazing it was done by elusive racing
My crx makes 275/240 on piston/rod t3 hybrid turbo. And it feels like 450+ whp in my focus. Thing is absolutely rowdy. Power to weight is a blast.

Either will be weapons
Quick question that just crossed my head. If I was to connect my dump pipe a similar way, would I have issues with wideband readings if it's installed after they connect together?
Not at all. the reading is still the same as the exhaust gas has left the cylinder head so It wont make any difference , a full exhaust system will get you a better cleaner tune any way as its more sealed from the outside oxygen

In my experience the ignition timing blowing out the head gasket is unique to the Y8 head. I was able to run way more timing on a Z6 with no issues. My Y8 wants about half of the timing that my Z6 wanted under boost, or it will blow the HG even with ARPs/Vitaras. I assume it’s due to the much tighter quench zone on the Y8 head. For reference, I had my timing table at 15 degrees advance @ 15 psi on the Y8 and it blew the HG. I backed down to 8 degrees @ 15 psi and with very minimal power loss and now I have no HG issues.
That’s awesome to know man we both got too frustrated with the d series and we ditched the builds haha
@@TURBOTRISTO I feel you! I’m looking for the right K or B bargain as well. D has turned into so much work for so little gain. I need low-end torque in my life.
what i know about z6:
over 0.7 bar (10psi) - it blows HG as it's stock head bolts ain't hard enough. And should be replaced with stronger ones.
If you have the captions turned on, anytime the motor is running at idle, the subtitle says [music]. Which isn't false.

how come theres no intake on the turbo inlet? like theres nothing at all even protecting the wheel??? im confused how turbo works on some cars i guess..on my car the turbo has an intake directly going to the inlet of the turbo...couldnt imagine ever leaving the wheel exposed
as long as air goes in the the front of the turbo then its all good, some air intakes restrict the flow, thats not why there is no intake on this one though its mostly due to lack of space and lack of caring by the owner, as long as he doesnt drive in a dusty dirty road then it will never be an issue
