    I´m very confused with those two, I don´t know which one I am using for my research, the situation is the following, in a university, I am going to choose two groups (experimental and control) and I am going to apply a particular activity in the experimental. The thing here is that due to lack of groups of the same level (let´s say 3th semester) in the university, I just have acces to the two only groups of the the third semester, the students are of diverse ages (generally from 17-22). Which one am i using? hope someone can help me out. The plan is to ask the teacher of those groups if I can do my experiement with their groups

      Can you please explain more clearly the level of independent measure that you are going to test on? I'm not sure about the part you mentioned 'lack of groups of the same level'.

      Yes, in that school people learn languages, people from all the parts of the city go there, I am planning to apply a particular activity on the third level because generally the third level has more than 1 group (sometimes 3 groups; A, B and C) and the SAME teacher, program, book etc.
      Something to remark is that there are not many students in the groups, the number vary in 10-20 students (I still don’t know the number because it’s still vacations)
      If there are 3 groups of the same level I can do a pre-test in order to find the two more alike in terms of average score (in the ability I’m going to work with)
      That way I will have the control and experimental group.
      It is also important to remark that generally the students are from 15-22 years old, sometimes there are adults (35yo), they are from different schools from all around the city, there are even people from different cities (currently living in the city where the school I’m going to work with is).
      Finally, I’ll “offer” the teacher the treatment for the experimental group in order to get the permission
      I think this is very detail, I personally have found characteristics of both experimental and quasi-exp. so I’m very confused

      I think no matter how much you check for variables (e.g. teacher, program, book) unless you randomly assign the students to the each group (A, B ,C) the experiment would be quasi-experimental. the reason is there could be some factors that are different between the groups which you've not accounted for. for e.g. a group of friends with a certain type of personality are in one of the groups and that personality would be more affected by the activity you want to test.
