    SuHua road along the cliff is the most beautiful parts, but riding in those tunnels was terrifying. We gave up in the middle and take train since it is really scary when you hear a truck approaching from behind in a tunnel that you don't know how close it may gets you......

      Yes. It can be pretty scary. I was very lucky to do it when there was little traffic.

    I can't even ride around my neighbourhood without falling over a few times, I think I will stick to watching your videos. By the way, nice looking wind breaker :)

    Thanks for the North east section tips.. . I’m in Kending now, just about to tackle the Shouka pass tomorrow… doing it slow and easy with a few rest days injected in the journey. Enjoyed your videos.

    Hey. Are you in Taipei? Will you be able to go to the Taipei cycle show?

    A lot of construction and very rugged roads along the southern mountains, I took a half trip around the mountains and then back. Avoid the mountain roads in The North East Tainan District and Pingtung's Northern roads along the mountains. I mean if you have a good gravel bike thats good but its not for road bikes, you'll end up walking probably about 500m each section.

    super nice and useful video. Just finishehd the amazing east coast and planning now to do later this year the full taiwan island.
    I was wondering: Did you fly with your bike in luggage (check-in ) or do you actually live in Taiwan?

    Great video thanks! When you take your Brompton, where do you store the Brompton travel case when you bike around Taiwan?

    • @AsiaHikelopedia
      @AsiaHikelopedia  3 месяца назад

      Thanks. I don't need one as I live here. But generally there are lots of options if you do have a case = from luggage storage at train stations and airports to hotels. Small hotels are usually very accommodating and will maybe store it for free if you are coming back later during your stay. Otherwise, paid storage in Taiwan is also usually pretty cheap. Hope that helps.

    Thanks for the video and the tips! I cycled Taipei to Hsinchu recently and took the coastal route that partly goes along Highway 61. In some parts of the route there are speeding trucks overtaking and the route is narrow (esp crossing bridges). Gave up after the first day since I felt unsafe. Are the remaining streets better? Did you ride this route before?

    • @AsiaHikelopedia
      @AsiaHikelopedia  Год назад +2

      No I didn't ride that section because of that reason. If you follow the Round Island Route 1 (or use Google Maps bicycle feature) it takes you along quieter roads for the most part. If you do the Suhua and Northeast coast, then you have to ride some shared roads. It's unavoidable.

    Very good back up show mate. I'm worried about the news of China taking over Taiwan. Hope you and family are OK. See you next week. Over and out😁

      China has never taken Taiwan. Not a single PRC law applies in Taiwan. Long may that continue.

    Great tips, thank you. Is there anywhere other than police stations where you can top up on water without buying plastic bottles? Happy to pay, but trying to cut down on waste.

    • @AsiaHikelopedia

      Not sure. Some of the water stops are at schools too. Guess you could use stream water if you have a filter.

      Sorry Richard, do you think the first 2 weeks of June will be too hot and wet to enjoy doing the huandao? Even if one does all the riding early in the morning? It’s the only time off I have.

    • @AsiaHikelopedia
      @AsiaHikelopedia  Год назад +1

      @@hyomandibular It will be hot for sure (30+) as the summer temps have arrived, plus it's been raining a lot the last couple of weeks. You could still do it of course, but it's far less comfortable in those conditions. Depends on whether you're ok riding long distances in such conditions. I was supposed to go out today, but there are storms and I've had to cancel.

    Hi friend! Is there any anyway to avoid the more narrow bits? Im hoping to go next year and ive done some touring trips but always try to avoid trucks as much as possible

    • @AsiaHikelopedia
      @AsiaHikelopedia  Год назад

      Yes. You can take a train between Hualien and Yilan to avoid the Suhua coastal road. And for the northeast corner there is an alternative inland route.
