- Came here for hollow knight? Came here for musicals?....so i made a thing.
Ive seen HK videos with this song and oh man it fits so well. So i tried making my own thing(if thats ok). I tried putting my gijinka designs into animations(animatic to be exact) so this vid is just for fun, and also a way to try the audio in flipaclip(still having trouble with it, exported vid doesnt seem to synch? or is it just me??). I hope the characters is still recognizable.

To those who are asking. Yeah I did took 'inspiration' from 55 Chromosomes( ruclips.net/video/7VkxMtLipj0/видео.html ) and Lemon the UPS man's( ruclips.net/video/w3odVJ6ol3w/видео.html ) works, because idk their vids and concepts are so good and i wanna make my own(and i wanted to draw expressions so bad lol)

Everybody here talking about how sad the animation is and about the voice actors but I'm appreciating how this person drew Hornet's hair, like how her hair is up until Hornet has finally had enough of the White Lady and snaps after she doesn't accept the blame for what happened to the Knight and taking off what was keeping her hair up. Like. Wow.

Little details can make a great difference
The idea of Hornet having survivor's guilt after the Knight's passing is actually really interesting, I hope they somehow incorporate that into some of Silksong's story
They probably won’t, the creators said that you won’t need to have played hollow knight to understand silksong

More importantly, Team Cherry said that every ending is equally canon, including the Embrace the Void ending, which you can get without ever even going into the Temple of The Black Egg, so Hornet wouldn't have any need to feel guilty

1:42 just gonna point out the fact that Hornet has a cut on her cheek and at the end you can see a glowing thread. She stitched it herself, thats such a cool detail
What makes it even cooler is that if I'm not mistaken that's how she heals in silksong, the mechanic is her using her thread to stitch or bind her wounds. HONESTLY I CANT THIS ANIMATIC IS SO COOL

Oh god, that shot of the crying Shade strangling Ghost? “You choked him out of his goddamn mind” and the connection with “No mind to think” despite that Ghost is so obviously hurting? The implication of the White Lady being the one to encourage the Pale King? And those shots of Herrah comforting her daughter one last time, Hornet with Herrah sleeping, and then Hornet and Ghost talking after Herrah is gone and THEN HORNET *CRYING* AT THE ALTAR WITHOUT GHOST? Oh god, oh fuck, how are you so good at portraying her anger and regret and pain, oh fuck, my heart hurts, oh no.....

Aaaa I agree! And because Ghost was one of the "failed" vessels, that means they have emotion, too!
The Queen did encourage him. None of this could have been done without her helping him. She made children and then let them be slaughtered over and over again because they weren't good enough, then sacrificed the final one to save herself and everyone else. By the time we see her in the game she's barely holding onto sanity. Ghost came out of that hellish pit of Death and darkness just to sacrifice themself and Hornet started to believe that Ghost could be the key to finally put an end to this suffering but in a few endings Ghost sacrifices themself to keep it going and the cycle begins all over again. Ghost completing the ritual are always the worst choices because it never stops anything just buys more time killing Radiance is the only way to end it.
And around 1:33 with the shots of little ghost and the hollow knight hurt my heart

Same. I watched this on loop for days before I even bothered to look at SAD-ist's name, and didn't remember it was the same animator until after "Dawn of the 16th" dropped. Sad, but at least I know I'm watching her animatics for their quality rather than the hype I feel because of their connection with the DSMP.

Same, I just got to Hornet
Hollow knight is one (if not the) best indie game(s) in history
Playing this at a slower speed and seeing each panel, it really gives you a better idea of the story. Seeing the pain, anger and regret Hornet is going through, her wanting- needing- for her family to be any type of normal again comes out so much clearer. And you can just see how manipulative, yet caring and regretful the White Lady is for everything that has happened... she just wants Hornet to be happy, yet it seems her words are only widening the barrier between them... She can never replace or lessen the love for Herrah and Ghost in Hornet's heart.
At least that's what I've noticed.

Man this is super sad. i never really thought about what the aftermath of the sealed vessel ending would entail, but it's sad to think that hornet might feel so angry about the knight's death :(
Edit: and also I really love the detail about the knight confronting his fears and fighting his shade, this song fits so well!
He (the Knight) is really not dead , but being sealed is a faith worse than death, because even if he is Hollow or not , he is going to break, no Matter what, And Hornet in The Game knew there was a way to finally end the Radiance control over hallownest, but the Knight decide to do what the White lady said to him,be sealed, that's why Hornet is so angry at her by letting the Knight do the same as the Hollow Knight
Technically, they didn't die. Just encapsulated the Radiance again.

There are so many beautiful details in this its hard to talk about them all. The different colours of the shots on the beginning, choosing to focus on potential interactions between WL and Hornet, Hornets complex emotions on her past roots and present situation!

I love the humanized designs so much. This is absolutely amazing. This concept where Hornet confronts the White Lady is something I never knew I needed to be made canon. This makes the first ending even more sad.
I love how at 1:23 it implies that they could have gotten a better ending than just "The hollow knight" ending if they just worked together.

This is so good,the animation,style,and how well you portrayed Hornet's emotions! I could see Hornet blaming White Lady,it sort of was White's fault. She could have done better in saving Hallownest. And Ghost just looked babey in this animation I WANT TO HUG HIM!! And Radiance looming over Hornet,it's like she saying,"Child,I took your entire family from you. Your mother sacrificed herself because of me. Your sibling is in tremendous pain,all because of me." 'You choked him out of his goddam mind!' with the crying Shade strangling Ghost,really hit me.I would actually die to make Hornet feel better,and to make Ghost come back.

So when I first watched this, literally months ago, I knew absolutely nothing about hollow knight and I just thought the animation and poses were absolutely killer but now-. Now I have context-. Oh no my poor heart. This is even more beautiful with knowledge

I watched this animatic MANY times before getting into the game, didn’t watch it at all while playing, and now I’ve watched it after beating the game and it is GLORIOUS
I love how this implies that after this ending the infection still isn't over. It looks like Ghost gained emotions because of Hornet, and it looks like she knows about it. This is why Ghost also fails at containing the Radiance, so Hornet still sees her influence and is fighting it herself, like it's corrupting her. So, in a desperate attempt, she goes to see the White Lady to seek help, but doesn't get it. So... she will fight alone again, just like she did before.
It's such a good animatic, I get goosebumps every time. Great job!

This fits surprisingly well and expresses the way I think we all feel when getting the ending where the knight contains the infection.
Honestly the first time I heard about this game my brother tried to sell it to me as having two sad endings. The first one I got was beating radiance. The second was sealed siblings. And I cried when I realized the fate of the little knight.
The little white threads from Hornet’s needle especially at the end... the detail in this is incredible and the fact that it was finger on a PHONE SCREEN makes it even more so

Goddamn beautiful, has made me cry more than once, such a powerful song, and the animation is phenomenal. No such thing as enough props to SAD-ist.
This hits so different, I became a dream SMP fan purely because of her animations and now I’m a massive hollow knight player so watching these knowing it’s from sadist is beyond full circle
The overlay of the Pale King over the White Lady during "till the moment he died" and the silk stitching on her scratches on the last frame GOD this is immaculate
I love the designs of all the humanized bugs in this! Especially Radiance, the Pale King, and Little Ghost. It only shows a few seconds of them, but they look so amazing! I also like the image of Ghost's shade choking him.
The facial expressions are absolutely perfect, the hatred and regret and sorrow and memories. I love it so much!
Anyway I might've rewatched it 20 times after it was released-

I’m amazed at how well this works. All the tiny details showing the conflicts in her head, all the people she knows that have been affected by the Radiance. It’s sort of like seeing Undyne the Undying. You know she can’t win but... we’re cheering her on anyways.

@@juangutierrez673 The thing is, that scene isn't happening, hornet is just stating, "we could've entered together" insinuating the radiance ending(I'm unaware of the actual ending's name) but instead, they just got the first ending, where the knight replaces the original hollow knight in contaning the corruption, but I could be wrong.
@@juangutierrez673 This is not true, becase they are talking about how the knight locked himself in the black egg temple, I'm not so strong in the lore game, but from what the animation is implying, it looks like the hornet is aware of the radience, and is confronting the white lady for events that aren't cannon which happen after the knight replaced the corrupted hollow knight.

i'm really digging this depiction of the white lady as a grand architect of manipulation! I mean, if i'm not mistaken, she is supposed to be a god(or godlike) creature on the pale kings tear, and we see /hear of his power, but the white lady? not as much. She never struck me as either powerful, or scary, but when she is just smiling at Hornet's accusations at 0:40 It got me. if they ever made a hollow knight movie, this would make a great after credit set up for a squeal!! this is just fantastic work!!!!!

Hornet has reason to be angry...but it's mainly at her father, the Pale King (that's the real Juanita if you think about it), who is the architect of everything, especially the loss of bugs in Hornet's life. The White Lady's crime is being completely compliant with it and not stopping it since as the Pale King's equal she had the ability, but chose to follow him without question. So Hornet's real problem with the White Lady isn't so much she's a grand architect of manipulation as it's not being the mother she's supposed to be to the Hollow Knight and all the other Vessels. She KNEW the Hollow Knight wasn't perfect, yet she didn't stop his fate. So the Radiance wins because one of the most powerful of bugs didn't tell her partner to let go the kingdom and sacrifice himself instead.
Agreed, I didn’t even notice her smiling at Hornet’s accusations, awesome job catching that.
She's not the grand architect, she was just complicit. The Pale King is the one who committed the deeds, she's guilty of letting him.
It's sad alot of people missed these older animations because the dreamsmp ones blew up and cover all this up
The first time I watched this I didn’t know anything about hollow knight. Now I’m rewatching it after playing hollow knight and knowing it’s lore, and I gotta say, it hits different.
This is so stunning, I don't even know where to begin with how much I love this. I don't think about this ending much because it's so heartwrenching; but you've perfectly captured exactly *why* it's so heartbreaking.
Hornet isn't usually openly emotive, but you've portrayed her complex feelings on her past and her pain and anger at this ending so thoroughly in character. I love your portrayal of the White Lady as a big part in causing the whole tragedy; I feel like a lot of people overlook her role as just as much of a well-meaning villain as the Pale King, so this is a very good and refreshing take on her!
And as someone who puts a lot of focus on facial expression and emotion in my own art, the angles and body language and faces in this absolutely blow me away. I lowkey want to study this thing frame by frame to learn how you do that.

Seriously though this is fantastic. The lyrics fit surprisingly well, the expressions and animation are emotive and snappy, the fast cuts add to the rising tension, and the emotion is *palpable.*

Every time there's the flashes of past things, it's so good. All of it is good, but the choices of what to include where in the little flashes is a masterpiece.
OKAY IM BACK NOW AND READY TO LEAVE A PROPER COHERENT APPRECIATIVE COMMENT.
Good god. Where to begin? First off, as usual, your artstyle is beautifully expressive and your angles and animation are mindblowing. The way you portrayed Hornet's emotional state while still very much retaining her personality (even though she's not usually an openly emotive person) really struck a cord and is one of the most heartbreaking aspects of this video.
Your gijinka designs themselves are SO incredible and immediately recognisable, even to someone who's never seen them before! i instantly recognised pk, the white lady, and herrah with absolutely no trouble. And I ADORE the dark irisless style you use for the eyes- i feel like it makes it so that despite them being gijinkas, there's an element of otherness to them, which is absolutely gorgeous and fitting for hollow knight as a whole!
moreso, the story of this is just... so incredibly heartwrenching! i dont see many people acknowledging the white lady's part in this- or specifically how you, as Ghost, find her in her chambers and she essentially gives you half of a charm and tells you "hey, i hope this helps you go get sealed and be alone, possible in tremendous amounts of pain, forever despite knowing for sure vessels aren't pure and having had first hand experience in the matter. nice chat c:". Like thats your own mother telling you that! Holy shit! And Hornet's justified anger- her having clearly developed fondness for Ghost and caring about them- it makes me ache so deeply.
There were so many beautiful sequences in this as a whole! The White Lady and PK overlapping at "held (them) til the moment (they) *died*". "blood and gore" - shifting between ghost and an infected thk... Ghost "facing their regrets" and having their weeping shade LITERALLY suffocate them. Hornet's sequence of steadily losing everyone- the hollow knight, her mother, ghost- and all the adults in hornets life; pk, herrah, and wl...
It's so beautifully tragic. Her anger. Her loneliness. The depth of her determination. Hornet's *had enough*. She's lost everything to post-radiance Hallownest; her mother, two of her siblings, her childhood to a burden she never wanted- and with the eradiction of the infection, the only purpose she ever knew.
additionally you draw ghost like SUCH A CHILD... IT HURTS SO MUCH. to see them like that, so obviously small and vulnerable and alone, having gone through so much unspeakable pain and lost so much and gotten nothing but eternal lonliness in the end... awful. so so incredibly awful, so painful and poignant and emotionally evocative to so perfectly characterise them as the child that they are. i think gijinkas were the best option for a video like this.

I love the detail. The reluctanct, yet furious actions of the Shade, how Hornet seems to blame herself, the flashes of The Radiance and The Pale King. The way it seems Ghost really did have emotions. Its just....perfect.

I never get chills, and I never understood what people meant by it, but when I heard "So I have you to blame for this pain in my chest." I actually shivered. Great work and while I am glad to see this channel getting so much attention, I am sad to see that the last hollow knight animation was a year ago.
i really love this. At 1:17 I love the flashing of the characters behind hornet and I especially all herrah stuff. I also just love the whole ending with the counting and stuff. This whole video is amazing, your art is lovely, keep up the great work!

I remember browsing RUclips 12 hours after this came out, and I saw it and immediately clicked, as I'd just started playing Hollow Knight and was obsessed with it. This was the first fan animation I'd ever watched, and my introduction to how amazing the people in this community really are. I had this video on loop for hours that night. Thank you for making it.

So here’s my takeaway.
It’s a couple years after The Hollow Knight ending and while the Radiance was successfully sealed off, the Knight is in there, basically dead.
Pre-Fall the White Lady suggested the creation of the Vessels but let PK take credit, especially when it failed. She never cared for them, it was PK who actually did, and it hurt him every time he had to throw one away, it hurt so much that eventually he hid away and killed himself.
White Lady’s motive for this was so that she would wait until the true Hollow Knight to rise up and seal away the Radiance so that she could become the true emperor of Hallownest.
After Hornet and The Knight killed THK and the Knight sealed away the infection, Hornet started feeling guilt over killing her brother and leaving another to rot. She wanted nothing more to kill The Radiance and free her best friend, or at least retrieve his body.
The white lady wasn’t going to let that happen, because that would show the Citizens of Hallownest that the creation of the vessels was unnecessary, and so they would revolt over losing their kingdom and minds, and WL would no longer have intelligent bugs to serve her.
Hallownest may be free of the Radiance, but she still clings to Hornet’s mind, infecting her, but not in the way the citizens of Hallownest know. The Radiance wants to be killed. The last thing she will do is completely destroy Hallownest and finally get revenge on the one that locked her up.

Nah, White Lady doesn't seem to care about ruling. And she does seem somewhat guilty for her part in things.
Also you're wrong about most of this, Hollownest is already dead and gone. White Lady doesn't have any followers left. Sounds like you're trying to shift the blame from Pale King onto White Lady for no reason, when canonically her biggest crime was compliance with his whims.

I was going to write about the "ghost confronting their fears" but then I remember the the part with the "suicide" and WL making ghost do it. Also the small details in the flashes, or her binding her wounds with silk. Its just so good

Uhhh okay so basically, I’ve been a fan of yours since you made Hamilton animations (crazy, somehow I got into Hollow Knight a few months after your first HK animation), so you’ve been _kind of_ a big inspiration for me for quite a time now. I just can’t believe that someone I’ve looked up to (I’m not sure if I should phrase it differently, but whatever) got inspired by something that *I* made (partially, at least).
