This is absolutely awesome! Would it be okay if I use this song in an animatic for Hollow Knight? Course I’ll give credit, but I wanted to make sure before I make anything. ^^
Before this, I hadn't noticed what the locations in this game look like..... Sad, abandoned, and empty. Like their whole life has been taken away from them. Usually we are always on the move, always enemies, and here I was given the opportunity to look at them without everything and they are so empty.
Once again getting to that very part in the song (after rewatching it like ten times today) as soon as I read this comment because that’s how life works I guess
"Way up above lies your chosen 'pure' knight. The only one spared was the one with no mind. For you, for your heart, for your love did they lie? Pretend all is fine as their mind rots inside." It is heavily implied that the Pure Vessel was not truly hollow. It was not able to completely keep the Radiance's infection from leaking out into Hallownest like it was supposed to. Whether or not it was truly hollow from it's conception, but at the end of the Path of Pain, we witness a memory of the Pale King and the Vessel sharing a moment in the White Palace. The theory I subscribe to is that the Pale King grew attached to the young Vessel, and vice versa, which caused the Vessel to slowly grow a mind and to lose it's true purity. The Pale King became ashamed that he allowed this to happen, and decided to go along with the plan anyway, and locked the memory of their love in the most hidden and impassible part of his palace. I love this line here, as it directly addresses this rather obscure fact about the Pale King and accuses him of screwing up the ritual that so many creatures sacrificed themselves for.
Honestly im trying to see this from the Pale kings Perspective, aka one of rightful paranoia against another god of light of extreme power seeking revange, and all i can feel is that while the message and all that is thrown against him is true, the guy mustve been truly desperate, he had done incredible stuff built his kingdom from near scratch extanded his dominion took over as sorta god-ruler, and his last rival was a fellow god that wanted revange, except the very mind he gave his kingdom to think with was also its weakness as it could prey on their very thoughts and feelings to corrupt them, so he had no choice but to find a way to get rid of it ASAP, thought that going by instincts without thoughts of feelings would be the best way to seal it and with his wife started experimenting without success as countless of their children thought or felt, which normally would be fine but in this specific case it couldnt work, it just couldnt, it stressed and strained the relationship between husband and wife and its bound to make him even more stressed as the urgency became even more important he HAD to steel his heart and keep going, at one point it had to pay off otherwise it was all doomed, till finally, a vessel seemed to fit the bill, didnt think, didnt feel, a perfect one after ALL the sacrifices, it all paid off, he could finally lower his guard, the Radiance would be a problem no longer and he could finally try to fix everything he had to do to get there, unfortunately, he relaxed to much, the vessel he birthed was certainly perfect at first, but it develloped feelings, for him, him of all beings that cursed all of its siblings back to the abyss to be forever abandonned and forgotten, and the problem was that at that point no one else loved him, they respected him admired him maybe, but no love was to be found from the being that willingly killed its own children to pay a price and be sacrficied anyway So of course, he shared those feelings, which cursed the perfect one to fall apart, to be just as imperfect as the rest if not more, at which point he knew, he couldnt just kill his last child and definitly the last one in the world that genuilly loved him, his heart couldnt take it, but Radiance was a problem and ditching the plan entirely just couldnt be an option considering its awful cost Thankfully he wasnt entirely alone, his wife may understandbly hate him now, but his Kingdom could still help and at this point even his own previous work would have to pay the price for its existance, so he brought along his advisor telling them they needed to be sacrificed to save the kingdom as a last effort should the Vessel fail inits duty one day, after all they were the strongests in said kingdom in both mind and body and therefore if they were put into eternal sleep they should be able to retain it, causing one to force him to make yet another child not giving him breathing room with his wife, and the other putting in actual argument as tk why this last urgent plan he made wasnt that great. Only for it all to fail, his life work wasted, his kingdom ruined, his familly ruined and most definitly all hating him, his last loyal servants slowly fading of falling to its light. He was never dad of the year material but i genuilly think its not all his fault if he was up againt Radiance, only mostly but not all his fault he just tried to hard lol
What a tragic lie it is, to pretend you can be what your father wants you to be. To, perhaps knowingly, doom a kingdom, just so that he can be proud of you.
@@cawareyoudoin7379 i can only imagine the lil guy looking toward the void "you abandon us for a lie? Why" "Well i'll be real it sounds overcrowded down there so im pretty fine up there *later when infected* "I regret everything"
@@Freedmoon44 "well, the way I see it, this beats just straight-up dying." "Fair." Actually, probably a sense of purpose and a duty to save the kingdom also came into play. I am often emotional about these bugs, you have no idea.
I think what he don't knew about the Hollow Knight's feelings, in four cut dialogues of the Oniric Nail in the Pure Vessel fight he say: "Do not think..." "Do not Speak..." "Do not hope..." "Do not..." "..." he tries to hide his imperfection, about de Path of Pain, the Seal of Binding have the answer, the description say: "Used to contain a powerfull force, or to preserve something of great importance", Why the Pale King want preserve that memory? Probably the Hollow Knight tried to seal his feelings with him or keep that memory that even if it meant not being what it should be, he treasured. Sorry for the long text and my bad english
Ogrim: "Did you do it? Did you seal the Radiant away?" The Pale King: "Yes" Ogrim: "What did it cost?" The Pale King: "Every--... ... ... no cost too great"
This kind of sounds like Radiance coming up with random songs to sass on Pale King out of boredom after being trapped in THK for decades. Absolutely amazing song and excellent performance!
@@petietheamazing7234 It is clearly from the point of view of the vessels! "We lived and we died so that you could pause time" "Try to forget us, we dare you to try" "Do your remember your graveyard?" "We try and we try to climb up to the light" "The only one spared was the one with no mind" "Our voices will cry out again"
@@blake_thegod9461ARE YOU KIDDING!? IT'LL BE A NIGHTMARE IF EFFIN' TIKTOK FINDS THIS! I love this too much to let it into the grasp of literal brainrot incarnate. Do you know what they'll do to this masterpiece? The exact same as they do to everything, immediately find every possible way to ruin or destroy it. Tictok always taints or stains anything it gets even near to in short time. I like the idea of this mastery going viral, but NEVER THROUGH TICTOK! They almost always resort to warping the original message with the unbelievably stupid collection of bingers on that site, typically resorting to r34, misinterpretation, and even just making idiotic "true theories" just because they can or because they cannot comprehend these types of things with their two shared braincells. Good thought and goal, awful execution. I'm quite sorry for anything that felt like me insulting you-although not sorry for insulting Tictok at all-I'm just very passionate about not letting things get ruined for about as long as I'm able, despite that time being very limited. I am also quite passionate about not letting Tiktoc have any effect on me. It generally just rots minds and essentially is an endless factory for dopamine-dependent zombies who have no actual thought put into even their thoughts and just seem to accept whatever 3 year old or idiot's opinion or so called "facts" about anything. Like "the world will end in 3 months because the sun will blow up!" First of all, the sun won't blow up, it'll just inflate then shrink, both in a dramatic change of size an in a cosmically short time(a few billion years from now). Sorry for the rant, I just really strongly think this masterpiece getting into the hands of Tictok, the braindead as it would be forever shattered and stained by a child's sh-- covered hands. I also really like insulting Tictok an absurd amount for some reason. Anyways do you agree with me, are you angry after reading this? Do YOU have any points you'd like to make or share. I'd love to hear any feedback you've got, even opposing opinions!
This song makes me feel that all the dead siblings can sense the pain of Hollow, when they tried to not think while the Radiance whispers things in their mind and that’s just heartbreaking
English: This is a fact for those who want to know about the word "Omelas" According to what I found, it is a city described in a book called "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas", where a relationship is found regarding the reign of the pale king. Basically, it describes the city of Omelas as a utopia where everything is happiness, but at the cost that a child must suffer, so that the whole city can obtain that happiness.
I love how the last line is "our voices will cry out again" If you didn't know if you dream nail the area where you get screaming wreaths it says that exact line.
My god. Everything about this piece is stunning. The lyrics hit like a truck with how emotional they are. The vocals are unbelievably beautiful. And the visuals are stunning! I know this comment is just me gushing, but… god, I adore this. “Try to forget us, we dare you to try. We will remind you, this isn’t goodbye” hits HARD.
Everyone keeps mentioning a lot of the lines in this song but- "We hope you enjoyed your last subject's applause" Jesus christ that hits. The idea of the population slowly withering away while tries to maintain any semblance of normalcy and hope, just for it to fall apart til nobody's left... These are some of the best lyrics I've heard in a fan song
Absolutely amazing. To think the product of 3 people’s passion lead to people making literal songs for the story of the game, for a character we’d never interacted. The vocals were amazing, the music was so splendid and the lyrics fit the Pale King really, really much!!! Keep up the good work!!
fun fact the famous line "no cost too great" was going to be replaced by "False one… you can not… reach me… here" probably talking about the radiance but the developers thought that his dream nail dialogue reflect his past instead of his present.
LYRICS in case you don't have the reflexes to read the bottom text like me: Ohhh... Ashes to ashes, your dust into dust. Telling yourself that you do what you must, oh anything to keep your kingdom's trust, monarch eternal as we slowly rust. How much is too much, oh just what is the cost? To keep up this faded and cursed Omelas? We lived, and we died, so that you could pause time. We hope you enjoyed your last subject's applause. One, two, three, you need sacrifice to seal your damned demons away. Cause pain and death, it's fine as long as this kingdom's mine live to see just one more day. Please, just one more try I've got it this time Cause there's no cost too great. Think of the future. Think of the past. Do you remember. Do you regret? Think of your children, think of your men. Someday you'll have to pay up your debt. Try to forget us. We dare you to try, cause we will remind you: this isn't goodbye. Look to the future, look to the past! Do you remember, your graveyard? Silently slowly, we keep up the fight. Given some time, we just might set things right - We try, and we try, to climb up to the light. With corpses beneath you, do you sleep at night? Way up above lies your chosen 'pure' knight. The only one spared was the one with no mind. For you, for your heart, for your love did they lie? Pretend all is fine as their mind rots inside. One, two, three, you need sacrifice to keep your damned demons away. Think of the future! Think of the past! Do you remember, your graveyard? Our voices will cry out again!
I know this is awesome and i totally like people who do this but im pretty sure everyone who managed to find this video would have good enough reflexes
He did all of those wicked deeds to save his kingdom only for it to fall anyway and he died knowing that the cost wasnt enough and never would have been. It was all for nothing.
i cant express how much i love this song. it captures the EXACT vibe i get from this game. “faded and cursed omelas” is one of my favorite lines because i had read that book a few years before this game came out and it never dawned on me how accurate that comparison is. im very thankful to you guys for making this, it’s the first fan song for my favorite game that ive found that REALLY gets the game.
***Major TL/DR Warning. If you don’t wanna read my freaking essay’s worth of text I don’t recommend pressing read more 🥲* I need this I’m always imagining at parts like 1:13 it switches from the current singer, who is almost definitely the siblings of the abyss *(if anyone asks, I can provide reasons if I get the notification lol, RUclips is unreliable 🙃)* to the pale king, desperately trying to justify his actions but only falling deeper into his own regrets, being manifested as the void itself or whatever. If I was even a tiny bit good at animating I swear I’d do this I have *so many ideas* And at 1:04 the singer(s) may be mocking the pale king before he actually starts singing, since “cause pain and death it’s fine” sounds like they are showing him how he sounds with his plans, and he responds by vainly trying to retaliate ( 1:13 ) And the setting in general may be the pale king, sitting on his throne being weighed down by all he’s done, and *(like I said I believe the singer(s) are the siblings)* they are showing him all of his memories, pretty much guilt tripping him until he falls to his own guilt. Hahaaaa I write too much 🫠
Few things are more powerful than that ending line in combination with the music leading up to it. There's something so inspiring about "our voices will cry out again" being sung at the top of one's lungs like that
@@starseer986Actually, aside from the name, there's one more piece of evidence that this is 100% directed to the Pale King: the Omelas reference. The plot of The ones that walk away from Omelas is that there's this perfect society, but it depends on one single child living in misery. Can't really apply that to the Radiance, because it's neither a perfect society nor a child living in misery, but it's a perfect match for the Pale King. Also the part about the Hollow Knight being ,,your'' chosen pure knight doesn't apply to the Radiance
O' great Monarch! O' great King! Please save us from this infection! Please spare us from this suffering! Let this Kingdom live! Let this Kingdom prosper! - From "Prayer of Hallownest" by the Royal Retainers
Wow, I don't know if I'll be able of say how much I like this song, but I'm going to try. I really love how sad, regretful and even angered the song feels, from the very begining it shows perfectly everything it tries to represent, from the desperation of the Pale King for saving his kingdom to the resentment of the vessels. Lines like "Telling yourself you do what you must, anything to keep this kingdom's trust, monarch eternal as we slowly rust." "We lived and we died so that you could pause time. We hope you enjoyed your last subjects aplause" really gives the feeling it should give, and it just increases as the song progresses, with the "One, two, three, you need sacrifice to seal your dammed demons away. Cause pain and death, is fine as long as this kingdom's mine live to see just one more day" as we see the Dreamers, the monument of the Hollow Knight and the empty throne of the Pale King. And then just when I think it can't get more intense comes the "Please, just one more try I've got it this time Cause there's no cost too great" which not only has the very well implemented dialogue of the Pale King, but it really makes you feel how truly desperate he was. Taking advantage that I mentioned the reference, they are incredibly well implemented in this song, being explicit like the "No cost to great" or subtle like "How much is to much, just what is the cost?", I also love how the kingdom is refered to as "Omelas" now that I know what it means. Then the song gets more silent and sad as it says "Think of the future. Think of the past. Do you remember. Do you regret?" as it shows the corpse of the Wyrm and the statue of the Radiance. One is something from the past that marked the future and the other is what makes everyone regret sealed her into oblivon. Both related to the Pale King, one way or another. Then comes the tragic "Think of your children, think of your men. Someday you'll have to pay up your debt." as the Abyss is showed, where all his children got locked and abandoned. Then it suddently becomes furious as the Vessels show their remorse; "Try to forget us. We dare you to try, cause we we'll remind you: this isn't goodbye. Look to the future, look to the past! Do you remember, your graveyard" as some vessels corpes appear, but not only that, also the corpse of Isma, the house of the Grey Mourner and even a room of the White Lady, like a way of show that not only the vessels but almost everyone in Hallownest is somewhat remorseful at the Pale King for abandoning them! Then there's no more lyrics, just the intense music as we see the Hollow Knight being corrupted by the infection, and continues as The Knight arrives to Hallownest. When the lyrics came back they're the Vessels singing about how, even after everything, they keep on fighting; "Silently, slowly, we keep up the fight. Given some time, we just might set things right - We try, and we try, to climb into the light." That part really feels like the refreshing shadow in the burning sun. Then, after that tragic yet heroic effort, they antagonise the Pale King again by saying "With corpses beneath you, do you sleep at night?" The music gets tragic again when talking about the Hollow Knight; "Way up above lies your chosen 'pure' knight." I love how they say 'pure' in a sarcastic way. "The only one spare was the one with no mind" sounds amazing and, as other comment says; it's such a raw line. But maybe not so much as the "For you, for your heart, for you love, did they lie? Pretend all it's fine as their mind rots inside.". That line it's just a whole another level, I don't know how to say it, it's just... really meaningful and accurate. When the songs repeats itself in the "One, two, three" onwards is more hurtful than before, especially the part where we see the corpses of the Soul Master fight, I had NEVER before thought the possibility that the Pale King let the Soul Sanctrum do it's experiments until he regret it and stopped them. If that's true, it really changes my perspective about that part of the game. Oh, and then the part that represents how desperate was the Pale King is just as hurtful as before, or even more! And then we're back with the "Think of the future." part, but this time with the Hollow Knight. I thought when it says "Do you regret?" it was going to show The Hollow Knight stabbing themself, but.... no, it showed nothing on screen, which I find really good in this case, there's no need to make enfasis on that, but in the possible regret of the Pale King. We see the Hollow Knight again in the "Think of your children". Now that I think about it, the "Try to forget us." onwards could be both for the Pale King and The Radiance, since both tried to get rid of/forget the vessels, but then they came back to make them pay their debt, 'casue they will remind them, that wasn't goodbye. "Think of the future. Think of the past. Do you remember, you're graveyard?" could refer to how the Vessels are, in some way, showing the Pale King that it was a mistake abandon them in the past, since now their here to save the future, and that he should have remember more the graveyard that is both the Abyss and Hallownest. But in can also, at the same time, be for The Radiance, about how the future she wants is uselless and how her acts for the past are finally going to make her pay. Especially since it starts when The Knight is about to Challenge The Radiance. I don't know if that was intencional, but it fits very well. I gotta say, the music is just PERFECT in this part, even when The Knight falls to the Void is well synchronized. xD It's just amazing how the music intensifies as The Knight goes on and the song ends in a perfect way as it says "Our voices will cry out again!" Now I want to say that not only the writting and editing are fantastic, but obviously so are the composition, the vocals and art. Everything about this is just amazing! The end says "Thanks for listening" but geez, thank YOU and everyone involved for letting us hear this passionate song about this amazing game! :D
I really like the comment and the effort you put in to make it, but i disagree with one part of it. When you talk about the graveyard line at the end, you mention that it applies to the radiance because the future they want is useless and they will receive retribution for the past. I dont think this fits with the lore, as the intent of the Radiance, and the reason behind them making them infection, is actually far from fitting either of those descriptions. In fact, it is implied (enough for it to be cannon) that what the Radiance did with the infection was not intentional, but rather an attempt to reach out to past followers through some form of telepathy, however, their minds, created by the Pale King (who i do not need to remind you of his arrogance, possessiveness, and obsessiveness) resisted the telepathy, causing the radiance to use more and more (unstable, due to years of non-worship) power, until it eventually mutated into a deadly infection of the mind (this process is shown pretty clearly with the moss vagabonds, they are shown to be trying to listen to “the light” and then become infected). Then, there is their wishes for the future, it is also somewhat nearly outright stated, and also implied as part of what I said above, that their intent was to return to how they were before, not specifically the religious leader of Hallownest, but rather one with the ability to reach that position through effort, a chance the arrival of the Pale King robbed them of.
@@wingdinggaster6737 I've heard before about the possibility that the infection was unintentional, but I don't recall any in-game details that implicate it as clearly as you say. The only ones that kinda fit that idea are those talking about how is a mistake to try and defy nature. Maybe it's just that I'm misinterpreting the dialogues that imply that, but I don't know, could you tell me what clues we have to believe that?
You must have put a lot of effort into writing this - it’s a whole entire song review that goes through the whole thing, pointing out the lyrics that have a deeper meaning (so pretty much the whole song lol)!!! Major props to you, this was wonderful to read. The song itself is truly beautiful and I am so happy to see others paying so much attention to all of the little details. 👏👏👏
This song is beautiful and encapsulates the king perfectly and the voice work is wonderful I'm so happy I found this (It also sounds like it's from the shades perspective)
I don't think i can put into words how much i love this song. Everything about it is great, from the vocals to the instrumentals to the lyrics. I also love how its about the perfect time length for a radiance fight, whether it was intended or not lol.
I know a song is magnificent when I don't know anything about its story and I can still listen in wonder. You know I'm gonna have to play Hollow Knight now right? I can't not know how this was inspired.
In the beginning there is one “How much is too much *just what is the cost?* “ . Very subtle, love this song. Just realized, there’s a line that says “Please just one more try, I’ve got it this time, cause there’s no cost too great”
Holy shit i just realised the last line is a reference to the Void Shrine where you get Abyss Shriek. I've been listening to this for so many months and I STILL FIND LAYERS TO THE SONG. You are a musical/lyrical GENIUS, TyKim!!!!
Building on the above... also couldn't be from Radiance because... 1, Rad didn't have a kingdom, they weren't a monarch, they were a god. 2. "you need sacrifice to seal your damn demons away" Rad wasn't trying to seal anything away, they were the one being sealed away. 3. "No Cost Too Great" is a line from, or at the very least about, The Pale King, if my understanding is correct. It's seen (*spoilers*) on the climb out of the abyss in the flashback climb. Definitely directed at The Pale King.
@@blankedeye1451 I mean, the PK didn’t hate the Void. Sure- he committed what could be considered a genocide against it. (Well. At least Void in living form.) But he didn’t want to utterly destroy it as the Radiance did.
"Way up Above lies your chosen 'pure' knight. The only one spared was the one with no mind." "Pretend all is fine as their mind rots inside." These lines Have so much impact!

I know this comment is just me boring, but… god, I adore this. "Look to the future! Look to the past! Do you remember, your graveyard?" HITS SO HARD GOD.
This sounds like if a vessel was revived this would be a song they wrote to diss their dad also the line “pretend all is fine as their mind rots inside” gives me chill it’s so good amazing work
I haven't played Hollow Knight for so many months now until I started playing it again just a few weeks ago. Hearing this fan song right after completing my third run of Hollow Knight made my playthrough worth it.
When you said “mind rotting inside” it’s cool how it can apply to not only the hollow knight being controlled by the radiance but also it knowing that it’s father never truly loved them
The lyrics and vocal cords here are amzing you can just feel how much work and dedication was put into this. Absolutely beautiful Fun unrelated Hollow knight fact that nobody asked for: the bargain that the pale king made with herra wasn't hornet but rather the "act" of making her... HAVE A GREAT DAY 👍
I just cant help but imagine the one singing this song actually being hornet, in place for the vessels, sinse they cant talk themselves, but also along with maybe the little to no "discarted" siblings that actually did happen to have a voice to cry suffering- idk i just love to imagine all of pale king's children getting together to shit on him and this song is perfect for that
"The only one spared was the one with no mind" Jesus I never thought a single line could almost bring me to tears. This. THIS! Is a masterpiece at its finest. Absolutely beautiful, have been listening to it none stop for an hour, goosebumps ^^
You know, it's funny. Despite everything, the Pale King did succeed. His kingdom may be in ruins, but its main point still persist. Bugs still gain mind within Hollownest, even if it puts them at risk of the Radiance's infection.

This is glorious. Amazing. It's not only about Vessels but every resident of Hallownest. I love this song so much! (If one day there would be an animation with this song it would be so powerful) Absolutely glorious ❤
I love this because after I played hollow knight the pale king quickly became one of my fav characters because he's just so complex, this song captures that perfectly, and it sounds great so that's a plus
i dont remember when i first hear it, but i know that from time to time i come back to listen, and its perfect, the voice, the song itself, the music, the rhythm, i love it, im amazed and speechless every time.
the gothic theme perfectly fits the dreary and grim nihilistic style of the game!! the lyrics are perfectly singable, the instrumental fade-ins worked perfectly with the interpretive build-up!! while i wasn't the biggest fan of the chorus, this just absolutely lightly caresses, because slaps is far too blunt for something like this. credit where it's due, you did an amazing job on this!
My god, this envolves so damn good what the pale king did, oh my, I just can't stay still with this song. It is great, it has the essence of the hollow knight running through the verses. Just amazing, I can't express my amazement with words. Great job
This is genuinely amazing, i do have a bias because Hollow Knight is my favorite game, but i will listen to this on loop, also i need to see what the heck is an Omelas
I can’t say i remember hearing many original hollow knight songs, but this one is defo going in the playlist! Absolutely lovely vocals you have a great voice 🤍
An amazing song. I can just see how the Vessels surround the king and sing this while pushing him between them. The abrupt silence that follows the final words are amazing and makes it feel like the Vessels are finnaly able to rest. (I apologize if my english is bad)

Before this, I hadn't noticed what the locations in this game look like..... Sad, abandoned, and empty. Like their whole life has been taken away from them. "we lived and we died so that you could pause time" is such an great line holy shit
Once again getting to that very part in the song (after rewatching it like ten times today) as soon as I read this comment because that’s how life works I guess
"Way up above lies your chosen 'pure' knight. The only one spared was the one with no mind. For you, for your heart, for your love did they lie? Pretend all is fine as their mind rots inside."
It is heavily implied that the Pure Vessel was not truly hollow.
Honestly im trying to see this from the Pale kings Perspective, aka one of rightful paranoia against another god of light of extreme power seeking revange, and all i can feel is that while the message and all that is thrown against him is true, the guy mustve been truly desperate, he had done incredible stuff built his kingdom from near scratch extanded his dominion took over as sorta god-ruler, and his last rival was a fellow god that wanted revange, except the very mind he gave his kingdom to think with was also its weakness as it could prey on their very thoughts and feelings to corrupt them, so he had no choice but to find a way to get rid of it ASAP, thought that going by instincts without thoughts of feelings would be the best way to seal it and with his wife started experimenting without success as countless of their children thought or felt, which normally would be fine but in this specific case it couldnt work, it just couldnt, it stressed and strained the relationship between husband and wife and its bound to make him even more stressed as the urgency became even more important he HAD to steel his heart and keep going, at one point it had to pay off otherwise it was all doomed, till finally, a vessel seemed to fit the bill, didnt think, didnt feel, a perfect one after ALL the sacrifices, it all paid off, he could finally lower his guard, the Radiance would be a problem no longer and he could finally try to fix everything he had to do to get there, unfortunately, he relaxed to much, the vessel he birthed was certainly perfect at first, but it develloped feelings, for him, him of all beings that cursed all of its siblings back to the abyss to be forever abandonned and forgotten, and the problem was that at that point no one else loved him, they respected him admired him maybe, but no love was to be found from the being that willingly killed its own children to pay a price and be sacrficied anyway
So of course, he shared those feelings, which cursed the perfect one to fall apart, to be just as imperfect as the rest if not more, at which point he knew, he couldnt just kill his last child and definitly the last one in the world that genuilly loved him, his heart couldnt take it, but Radiance was a problem and ditching the plan entirely just couldnt be an option considering its awful cost
Thankfully he wasnt entirely alone, his wife may understandbly hate him now, but his Kingdom could still help and at this point even his own previous work would have to pay the price for its existance, so he brought along his advisor telling them they needed to be sacrificed to save the kingdom as a last effort should the Vessel fail inits duty one day, after all they were the strongests in said kingdom in both mind and body and therefore if they were put into eternal sleep they should be able to retain it, causing one to force him to make yet another child not giving him breathing room with his wife, and the other putting in actual argument as tk why this last urgent plan he made wasnt that great.

Actually, probably a sense of purpose and a duty to save the kingdom also came into play. I am often emotional about these bugs, you have no idea.

Cursed Omelas is SUCH a niche reference for a song lyric, I absolutely love it.
This song makes me feel that all the dead siblings can sense the pain of Hollow, when they tried to not think while the Radiance whispers things in their mind and that’s just heartbreaking
English:
This is a fact for those who want to know about the word "Omelas"
According to what I found, it is a city described in a book called "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas", where a relationship is found regarding the reign of the pale king. Basically, it describes the city of Omelas as a utopia where everything is happiness, but at the cost that a child must suffer, so that the whole city can obtain that happiness.

***Major TL/DR Warning. If you don’t wanna read my freaking essay’s worth of text I don’t recommend pressing read more 🥲*
I need this
I’m always imagining at parts like 1:13 it switches from the current singer, who is almost definitely the siblings of the abyss *(if anyone asks, I can provide reasons if I get the notification lol, RUclips is unreliable 🙃)* to the pale king, desperately trying to justify his actions but only falling deeper into his own regrets, being manifested as the void itself or whatever. If I was even a tiny bit good at animating I swear I’d do this I have *so many ideas*
And at 1:04 the singer(s) may be mocking the pale king before he actually starts singing, since “cause pain and death it’s fine” sounds like they are showing him how he sounds with his plans, and he responds by vainly trying to retaliate ( 1:13 )
And the setting in general may be the pale king, sitting on his throne being weighed down by all he’s done, and *(like I said I believe the singer(s) are the siblings)* they are showing him all of his memories, pretty much guilt tripping him until he falls to his own guilt.
Hahaaaa I write too much 🫠
Someone is doing a map call for it

Few things are more powerful than that ending line in combination with the music leading up to it. There's something so inspiring about "our voices will cry out again" being sung at the top of one's lungs like that
Beautifully made not only does it sound amazing but it can also be seen both ways for the radiance and for the pale wyrm/pale king
No, it's definitely directed to the pale king not the radiance. Hell, look at the song name.

Then, after that tragic yet heroic effort, they antagonise the Pale King again by saying "With corpses beneath you, do you sleep at night?"
The music gets tragic again when talking about the Hollow Knight; "Way up above lies your chosen 'pure' knight." I love how they say 'pure' in a sarcastic way.
I gotta say, the music is just PERFECT in this part, even when The Knight falls to the Void is well synchronized. xD
It's just amazing how the music intensifies as The Knight goes on and the song ends in a perfect way as it says "Our voices will cry out again!"
Now I want to say that not only the writting and editing are fantastic, but obviously so are the composition, the vocals and art.
Honestly this is a well written comment. This game is so great.
This song is beautiful and encapsulates the king perfectly and the voice work is wonderful I'm so happy I found this
(It also sounds like it's from the shades perspective)
Mixed with the scene with them saying they need time to fix things, are trying to fly up to the light, and the end supports this idea. Good spot!
God-DAMN!
I was waiting for that "No cost too great" inclusion.
This is a banger. Need to share this asap.
In the beginning there is one
“How much is too much *just what is the cost?* “ . Very subtle, love this song.
Just realized, there’s a line that says “Please just one more try, I’ve got it this time, cause there’s no cost too great”
Bruh why do I read comments that talk about a certain part of a song, and then that part plays
@@pengine6096 why does this always happen to everyone
I personally think the Pale king and the Hollow Knight have the most tragic backstory of the game
*the vessels
@Virus (the vessels included the hollow knight, but ok)
@@Cadaveer_XII Why did you try correcting someone's opinion tho?
Screw it, everyone has a tragic backstory in this game
@@thenyan3095 checks out
Holy shit i just realised the last line is a reference to the Void Shrine where you get Abyss Shriek. I've been listening to this for so many months and I STILL FIND LAYERS TO THE SONG. You are a musical/lyrical GENIUS, TyKim!!!!
this is really cool!! I'm surprised there isn't more views yet
Wdym It had been out dor 8 minutes when you commented this
It's kind of crazy that this can put from both Radiance, and the Pale King.
i thought it was from his dead child
@@microwaveddoorknob8211 I think they meant TO both of them. Since they both committed sins to the children of the void.
@@skinwalkermc9540 you can be a monarch and a god at the same. They’re not mutually exclusive.
"Way up Above lies your chosen 'pure' knight. The only one spared was the one with no mind." "Pretend all is fine as their mind rots inside." These lines Have so much impact!
Damn those vocals are breathtaking!
My god. Everything about this piece is stunning. The lyrics hit like a truck with how emotional they are. The vocals are unbelievably beautiful. And the visuals are stunning! I know this comment is just me boring, but… god, I adore this.
"Look to the future! Look to the past! Do you remember, your graveyard?" HITS SO HARD GOD.
This sounds like if a vessel was revived this would be a song they wrote to diss their dad also the line “pretend all is fine as their mind rots inside” gives me chill it’s so good amazing work
With the plural singer, it seems like all of the siblings are collectively singing this, as like a reverse prayer or something :o
Literally started replaying HOLLOW KNIGHT last week, this couldn't have appeared at a better time. Awesome song!!
Simple y llanamente magnífico
0:44 is a god tier reference about the tale called: The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas and a very good analogy
I agree! Actually, I read the tale because I had got interested what "Omelas" is from this song. And it's pretty good!
Keep returning to this song after finding it
Beautiful reference to the Dream Nail Dialogue and Lore!
Voice is hauntingly soft
Great Job!
I haven't played Hollow Knight for so many months now until I started playing it again just a few weeks ago. Hearing this fan song right after completing my third run of Hollow Knight made my playthrough worth it.
When you said “mind rotting inside” it’s cool how it can apply to not only the hollow knight being controlled by the radiance but also it knowing that it’s father never truly loved them
I think that PK did in fact have affection for the Hollow Knight, judging by the end of Path of Pain
@@redstinger0966 he was probably trying not to love them or let them know that he did 🥺
@@Bubblegum-Cupcake 😥
I wouldn't see why he wouldn't love him
He sacrificed his children and fatherhood
In the end, he failed, all that he sacrificed was nothing...
The lyrics and vocal cords here are amzing you can just feel how much work and dedication was put into this. Absolutely beautiful
Fun unrelated Hollow knight fact that nobody asked for: the bargain that the pale king made with herra wasn't hornet but rather the "act" of making her...

How has this not gotten more attention? This is amazing, your singing is beautiful. It's even accurate to the lore, and has a meaning. Perfect.
THAT WAS SO COOL!!!!! I love the desperation in some of the lyrics “live to see just one more day” “just one more try.” Absolutely fantastic. I hope this gets more attention soon because it needs it
2:03 TO THAT IS STRATE UP MAGLOVANEA AND I LOVE IT
Right before that is the Sealed Vessel motif.
0:41 ''To keep up this faded and cursed Omelas" That one hited a special place
I can never resist coming back for this song to just. Feel it. Chills, literal chills, EVERY time
This is amazing! I like the lyrics so much and absolutely love the skip beetween the "narrator" and the King during the refrain!
I'm so glad this was used for the MAP. It fit incredibly well i'm absolutely awstruck with how well it turned out. Beautiful song and equally beautiful animatios and concwpts from the community

This is amazing, I was so enthralled by this song that I didn’t even realise it was over. Thank you for such an amazing song.
this is severely underrated. Its soo good and i can't believe you have so little subscribers. Anyway, you've earned a new one!
I heard this from the MAP call and I had no idea it was a fansong playing to the storyboard until I read the description. This is so good?? Like super quality, amazing job.
this is fan-made ? wha- !? it was way too good to be a fan-made song. the lyrics and intonation was so sad and tragic, accurate to hollow knight's lore. thankyou for the artist, singer, musician, and sound team for producing this master nailart
This song gave me goosebumps. It's amazing! I almost cried while listening to you. I didn't think there was anything like this on RUclips. We all definitely need more fan songs like this
Thank the RUclips gods for this amazing video randomly popping up in my recommended
i love this, the lore is spot on, and it's an amazing vibe.
That’s awesome, I have no words! The voice, the lyrics, it’s perfect!
Also« Our voices will cry out again » the line that reads when you dreamnail the statues which give you the abyss shriek, clever!

The hollow knight community is just pure joy, thank you y’all are just so talented ❤️
GOD THIS IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE the vocals, the sound of the instruments, and WOW the lyrics
Even when HK got popular it still felt like it never got too big to get a lot of fan music so this is so exciting to see thank u for sharing such an amazing piece of art with the community

Guess I just found my new favourite song to listen in loop for hours
This is... Oh my god. As a fan, I'm just out of words... Perfect voice, perfect lyrics. I teared up a little. Great job you guys! 🎉🎉🎉
Oh my god this song is insane in the best way. The singers voice is so powerful, the lyrics are so good, and the instrumental is just AUAGIDJEBEJL
This is glorious. Amazing. It's not only about Vessels but every resident of Hallownest. I love this song so much!
(If one day there would be an animation with this song it would be so powerful)
Absolutely glorious ❤
“Do you remember your graveyard?” Is such a good line holy shit
One of the few things I call Painfully Epic. Only 3 other items are in this group. This has made it to the top
This is so well made! It made me cry, holy crap you even got the lore down to a millimeter. This blew me off my chair (at 11:30 pm).
