We then had to do budgeting papers and we were graded on how well we did. They really should include that in all grades because that's real life. The people they are actually learning from and are around the most are teachers and friends, so it would make sense for them to teach them.
Kids shouldn't worry about money and bills. Is good they understand finance but if they are going to be Thinking like adults and feeling stressed already is not good
@ellaes6602 so when do they learn it, their 18th birthday. Get real, kids can learn this stuff, as well as how to put the washing machine on etc etc and still have time to play, have fun, and time with their mates. You don't have to wait until they're an adult.

Soo many of us are distracted, lacking structure and discipline.
For the most part, I agree. Where I think this could be a little better, is in giving bonuses out to kids for things where proficiency isn't necessarily required. In the working world, you can get bonuses if you are a high performer. If you're not a high performer because you don't have the aptitude in your job, you can try to find another one where you do and get better compensation there. Where this falls short is that these kids can't find another "job" that they might be better at, so it gives them the impression that they don't have options and they might take that feeling into adulthood. A better option would be to give bonuses for being nice or polite. Pretty much everyone can learn how to do that 😀
@@shortnr Of course these kids find other jobs to be better at, and a teacher like her actively finds and rotates and would make special categories! They likely rorate classroom jobs every week. @@MrBigMoneyMan909what was the point of this reply lmao. Teaching financial literacy doesn’t mean u stop teaching kids how to read. It’s just another very important thing that kids need to learn
@@noonebutme the point is how do you expect kids to be good with money with 80% of middle schools in a city like Baltimore are reading at a 2nd grade level. Literacy in the US is at its lowest levels in decades and children all across the country are failing standardized tests. It’s great to teach kids about money, but if you teach illiterate kids about money and you’re setting them up for failure. So maybe teach the children how to read and teach them about money later in school?
@@MrBigMoneyMan909 these are two separate issues which don’t really have much relevance to each other. I’m aware that literacy rates in this country are atrocious, and that ofc needs to be addressed but I think life skills like this should be implemented in all schools too. I don’t see how teaching this to any kid could be setting them up for failure, nor do I think it’s ever really too early to start especially if it’s a fun, relatable way like this. Either way kids don’t learn just one topic at a time at school, that’s like saying kids need to be taught reading skills first and leave the math til later. Children learn reading, math, science, and social studies every year. This type of learning could easily be implemented into their curriculum
I’m 63 now but had a teacher who did this when I was in sixth grade - approx 1971. He created different colored money for different things: Blue for the jobs we each held - green as we invested weekly in the stock market - red for ethics and behavior - we had a court, lawyers, judge, etc. when the school year was done, we could use our money to purchase educational toys, books. Best teacher I EVER had!!!

@gemmeldrakes2758 Financial responsibility is such an important part of being successful in life it should have been a no brainer to include in curriculum as a main subject!! But if more people were educated on the subject it would mean less money for credit card company's, banks etc. Makes you wonder if it wasn't purposely left out!
I was taught about money and credit in the 8th grade and then again in high school. Now this was 100 years ago so times have changed. I've heard many things have changed in education, but some of the basics like this need to come back!
@daniellemitchell3118 As a former school teacher , I agree. If it wasn't on the state standards, it was not taught (including cursive writing). I always worked in the important skills. I was always reprimanded by administrators because they thought it was a waste of time. They were focused on test scores. After 17 years, I quit and started teaching privately online and in-person. Free to teach what they actually need in life.❤

I love this, because you know these kids were taught certain importance. And just because you get money doesn't mean it's all yours. The fact they came to conclusions, by counting what they made and what they owed, teaches them a lot.
“I’m about to be broke,” was spot on by the youngster after paying rent. This is great instilling in these children about finances at such young ages. Great job!

My 2nd Grade teacher did something similar to this and we were able to buy candy and toys with them. If you had $100 you would be able to sit at the teacher’s desk for the whole day. She was really broke and had to drive 30 minutes to school every day, not even having enough money for snack time, but she did it regardless and I am forever grateful for her. She has always been my favorite teacher because of the things she did for her class. She left at the end of the year because she was pregnant, I hope she’s having a better life now.
I also had a teacher do this. We were able to earn "funny bucks" and buy candy and small toys or school supplies. If we saved 100 funny bucks we were rewarded with a happy meal and got to sit with the teacher. I remember saving enough for a bottle (glass) of coke that sat at my desk all day while I took the tiniest sips.😌❤️ Good times the 70's were.🥹
My favorite teacher in 3rd grade did something like this but we earned with As, Bs and being helpful, extra bonuses etc. And could buy from the class "store" or purchase extra credit, lunch with teacher in classroom, I think even free pass on a test if we saved enough etc. Was so fun. But my silly entrepreneur self as a 3rd grader turned it into a business opportunity and started writing a 'zine', holding 'raffles' and games etc and making big 'bucks', even hired friends as employees to help run everything and distribute etc. Was so fun hahaha
Parents should be more vocal about what they want their kids to be taught. Most teachers will do what they are told and what they teach is usually determined by the administration. As a former teacher and current parent (who homeschools) I highly recommend you let them know what you want them taught. Parents have power. As a young teacher, I felt powerless, you are always afraid you are going to lose your job if you shake things up. And I know a lot of other teachers feel the same way.

I had one teacher in 5th grade who spent about 2 weeks doing expenses, stocks, and other financial stuff. We all got news papers, had to pick a job, a house and utilities and insurances. We then had to do budgeting papers and we were graded on how well we did. They really should include that in all grades because that's real life. Sure, we also explain it as parents, but it reinforces it when others say the same thing. Plus, unfortunately not all kids have the greatest parents or parents who are good with budgeting either. You can't teach something you don't know, and if they taught it in school, everyone would know! Those kids in groupon homes/orphanages don't have parents to teach them either
@@rexrad9735agreed, but why is it then that the media is full examples of schools going beyond their base to teach perverse sex ed, but not fianncial basics?
You don't even get this level of financial education in high school.
Give this woman a raise.
Basic financial information IS NOT given in school because they want us to be IN DEBT and BROKE. They want us to use credit cards. That keeps the economy running and it keeps the banks and lenders rich!!!
This is EXACTLY what's needed! I love hearing, "I'm about to be broke!" Kids (and mine are young adults) need to learn that things aren't free; rent isn't free. Great job!!!! 👍
This is sooooo important. Those kids will remember her when they are financially secure adults.
Right?! This is awesome
Exactly.
I'm sure that entire class will be multi trillionaires. Kek
That is a FANTASTIC teacher implementing REAL skills into the young minds of her students. They'll definitely remember her for the rest of their lives!
“I’m about to be broke” I felt that.
Awe this is so sweet, I love teachers that actually enjoy teaching and find creative ways to teach
FINALLY! A TEACHER WHO ACTUALLY TEACHES KIDS IMPORTANT THINGS! HALLELUJAH!
Parents should be the ones teaching simple money management. She's doing a favour for ya all useless parents out there.
@@RonLarhz Do you really think in this society that the parents are who the kids are around the most? Maybe for little kids, bur as they get older, people really don’t get to spend that much time with them anymore. They’re their own people with their own lives, even if they’re not legally adults yet. The people they are actually learning from and are around the most are teachers and friends, so it would make sense for them to teach them.
@@RonLarhz Not teaching kids about money does not equate to useless parents but whatever ig?
Kids shouldn't worry about money and bills. Is good they understand finance but if they are going to be Thinking like adults and feeling stressed already is not good
@ellaes6602 so when do they learn it, their 18th birthday. Get real, kids can learn this stuff, as well as how to put the washing machine on etc etc and still have time to play, have fun, and time with their mates. You don't have to wait until they're an adult.
We need more teachers like her. She is a superhero. The little kid cracked me up when he said he’s about to be broke. 😂
Many can relate.

Must have heard his parents 😢😂😂😂😂
Me too babe😅😅😅😊

She is a patient woman- the kids really respect her - hard to teach kindergarten
Not that hard if you know what you're doing, have experience with children and just enough patience to do the job in general. Of course teaching in general is stressful regardless of the student's ages but not so much hard if you're clued in
We need more teachers like her, not like 80 %, are so bad!
@@Ebunoluwa13exactly, it's all about organization. Just like raising children. It's actually easy for many people, many cultures celebrate the process of raising kids! but it's hard for those who aren't structured and organized! I think we need to get organized in the USA. Soo many of us are distracted, lacking structure and discipline.
...in US. can't say that's true in other countries. My kids were raised in different countries. The teachers had fan and so did kids.
I would say kindergarten is easier then Middle School.
now she needs to make one of the kids a landlord so they can see how it really works
Not just teaching financial literacy. She's teaching that hardwork pays off. Love this!
They likely keep track at recess for sportsmanship. They likely have special tasks, like running a note to another class, to give other kiddos a chance.
I agree. She is teaching that you get rewarded for doing good work and that it's not just given to you.
That SHOULD be true, but unfortunately not always how the world works.
@@shortnr This was a very short clip. I imagine a teacher as good as she is would also give bonuses for exemplary behavior, doing extra jobs, helping fellow students, doing well in non-academic activities (PE, art, music, etc.) and such. She's a wise woman!

But not about taxes. If she taught them what taxes really entail, she would end up fired, like it has happened to another teacher. Doing that math exposes too much.
It's on parents responsibility to do that. Both of my children received a weekly pocket money. they could save the money or have a "credit" from us if they wanted something more expensive. Of course they had to repay the loans😅
But at least, they learned that money doesn't grow on trees

Ummm... life skills r mainly taught by parents😑 ...supposedly. But hey, somebody gotta do it I guess. Noble if her 2 take on the task.
"Live Skills", what, as opposed to prerecorded skills?
Someone should have thought you how to spell
@@samanthadavis519you just answered your own questions, not every parent is good at teaching their child life skills, just cause you have a child doesn't automatically give you these skills. Whilst a child is in a teacher's care, that teacher is responsible for the child, so yes as an adult with the right life skills to teach the child they can, as long as it's appropriate to their age and learning ability and that teacher would have made parents aware of this, if this is a good school. Also financial skills is still maths. 😂

@@Cre8tive_Always There is an entire generation of educators who have gotten into the field under the false belief that all the job required was passing out packets, training kids to regurgitate information regardless of comprehension, and getting 3 straight months off a year.
When they get settled into a class and realize that they are expected to actually educate, they become begrudging and hostile toward the system, the parents, and even the children.

Maybe start with actual literacy first..
Rare to see young kids with manners these days. They way they responded after paying their rent ❤
Kids are extremely moldable, especially when they're as young as 4-6 yrs old. This is why is a kid is acting spoiled or rude or is outright horrible in character both his parents and his teachers are to be blamed...

Finally a teacher who is going to teach them info that they will actually need and use to have better lives
Other teachers should take notice!!! I never understood why this was never taught in school!!!
Because the assumption was always that children would be taught about it at home. We are beginning to realise that isn't always the case.

A teacher actually teaching kids relevant life skills. Refreshing. This lady is a gem!
I remember saving enough for a bottle (glass) of coke that sat at my desk all day while I took the tiniest sips.😌❤️ Good times the 70's were.🥹
She's not teaching them about her personal life. She's giving them long-lasting tools🫶🏿
I hope that she sees your comment !!

Parents should be more vocal about what they want their kids to be taught. Most teachers will do what they are told and what they teach is usually determined by the administration. As a former teacher and current parent (who homeschools) I highly recommend you let them know what you want them taught. Parents have power.
