A great list and damn, what a year! Only a few I thought of that didn’t pop up in the honourable mentions: Tiamat - The Astral Sleep Xysma - Yeah Sadistik Exekution - The Magus
Great selection!!!!. But I would have included Cancer - Death Shall Rise ( for the great work of james murphy) and Malevolent Creation - The Ten Commandments, with the rest, I agree.
A buddy of mine was in a death metal band called Cross Fade in Long Island back in the early 90s. They used to play gigs with Morbid Angel, Autopsy, and Malevolent Creation. They were friends with Suffocation and would go to each other's shows. After a gig one night they ended up getting lost in Bedford Stuyvesant in the middle of the night. Their truck was loaded down with their gear. Through some miracle they were never robbed or murdered. Once some cops stopped them and helped them out they were in shock that the band had been stopping at red lights, etc. They said that given all the gear they were carrying that they wouldn't have pulled them over if they had just driven through the lights. Stories about Brooklyn scare me
Binging all your top 10 thrash and death metal albums atm, really enjoying it and getting to know some great bands I didn't know before 😄 Only sidenote on this one is that you played Suffocations EP version of Infecting the Crypts, which came out a year earlier! Cheers!
Keep forgetting to vote but 1. Blessed are the sick 2. Athiest- Unquestionable presence 3. Asphyx- The Rack 4. Entombed-Clandestine 5. Gorguts-Considered dead 6.Suffocation-Effigy of the Forgotten 7 Dismember-Like an ever flowing stream 8 Tiamat-The Astral Sleep 9 Autopsy-Mental Funeral 10 Grave-Into the grave
Xysma's Yeah is my favourite album of all time didn't even make the honourable mentions.. Good to see at least some people remembered Carbonized's For The Security (which would be my #2 for 1991) and Funebre, Therion, Broken Hope and Deceasted too. If Crematory's Denial isn't in the 1992 lists I'll know I need to change my expectations of what to expect in there countdowns.. The popular Liverpool band line made me laugh. Spectacular work!
This list is fantastic! Ever Flowing Stream is my favorite album for this year. I know the list is voted on by the Discord, but I'm still curious to hear more of your opinions on some of these
5 Carcass: corporal jigsore quandary 4 Autopsy: mental funeral 3 Morbid angel: blessed are the sick 2 Cannibal corpse: butchered at birth 1 Death: human
thanks for giving the songs enough play-time for us to have a listen, instead of going over them quickly or not playing them at all, it's a great format, cheers \m/
It's funny, I agreed with all the thrash videos but I disagree so much on the death metal videos. It's got the perfect mix, the discord has great taste, but I would rank the albums differently. Doesn't matter, another KILLER video! Cheers!🍺
Great video, great list, so many great albums on and not on the list. Did you play the Human Waste version of Infecting the Crypts by mistake or because you prefer that version?
I remember in 1991 seeing the cover of Unleashed "Where no life dwells" inside a record store. I will never forget the eerie feeling, I was 15 years old. I don't know what happened to me..this was no Sodom, Kreator or Helloween... The band logo was reminding me of a gigantic spider web. I just knew it had to be very threatening music.. even much more than Slayer. Days later I saw someone wearing an Obituary shirt at my school. I was in awe. WTF had happened to my school mates wearing Sodom "Agent orange" shirts???? Where were they??? They swapped.. almost all of them. To the mighty force of Death Metal. And then I saw a blonde long haired boy with a leather jacket and a big Deicide patch on his back at the supermarket . He barely spoke German, he was from Poland. I was deeply impressed. We got brothers and he showed me his collection. From this day, death metal was my new religion. And unfortunately, bands like Maiden, Helloween and Kreator... I've lost interest into them for a solid amount of time. Bands like Anthrax, Kreator or Metallica betrayed my cause. Death Metal now was trve metal for me.
1991 was peak year for death metal. Pretty much all bands released an excellent album to a masterpiece. It's easier to count bands that didn't release an album that year than the ones that did hahaha
My top 5🤘 1. Dismember-Like an Everflowing Stream 2.Autopsy-Mental Funeral 3.Immolation-Dawn of Possession 4.Entombed-Clandestine 5.Bolt Thrower-War Master
Killer list, Suffocation and Death is a toggle for my number one. I’d say it would depend on my mood. Both are such great albums! Looking forward to 92… perhaps I’ll vote for ‘93 when it becomes available
This is honestly almost how I would rank the albums for this year. I would probably give a slight edge to Human in first place over Effigy of the Forgotten, and I would probably move Blessed are the Sick up to third, but the actual top ten I would say is spot on. 1991 was arguably the golden year for Death Metal. You really couldn't go wrong with the releases this year.
My top ten: 1) Unquestionable Presence - Atheist 2) Human - Death 3) Testimony of the Ancients - Pestilence 4) Like an Ever Flowing Stream - Dismember 5) Death Shall Rise - Cancer 6) Blessed are the Sick - Morbid Angel 7) Necroticism - Carcass 8) The Ten Commandments - Malevolent Creation 9) Effigy of the Forgotten - Suffocation 10) Choir of Horrors - Messiah Cheers! 🤘

So many great albums that year and a lot of new bands as well, absolutely brilliant!👍🤘
Infecting the Crypts playing now on the original 1991 vinyl. Not Effigy of the Forgotten, but the Human Waste EP. Discovered them when nobody had heard of them (yet).🙂 Cool to see Suffocation ended up as number 1. 🤘😎👍

Yeah, Suffocation, had to be. Effigy of the Forgotten has to be quintaessential brutal death metal album. I love it. 1991 was such an amazing yeat for DM. Wall-to-wall classics.
Gorguts : Considered Dead is one of the best death metal albums of all time. It's also strange that CC's Butchered at Birth missed the list, a very strong album.

I have about 1/2 of them, but I don't have all of them. Some ones I do have from 1991 not mentioned are Morgoth-Cursed, Therion-Of Darkness, and Unleashed-Where No life Dwells,
@@RuthlessMetalYT I personally I liked the Unleashed's demo - And the Laughter Has Died more than the versions that ended up on Where No Life Dwells. It's probably the most brutal Johnny ever sounded.

BOLTHROWER : War Master 7. ATHEIST : Unquestionable Presence 8. ENTOMBED : Clandestine 9. NO RETURN : Contamination Rises 10. SUFFOCATION : Effigy Of The Forgotten

Dismember - Like an Ever Flowing Stream 6. Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten 7. Entombed - Clandestine 8. Immolation - Dawn of Possession 9. Funebre - Children of the Scorn 10. Gorguts - Considered Dead
Pretty good list. Its a surprise Butchered at Birth wasnt included. Unleashed Where No Life Dwells should of made the list over Entombed Clandestine. Dismembers Like an Ever Flowing Stream was another surprise not so much it being on the list but how high on the list.
Immolation - Dawn of Possession Cannibal Corpse - Butchered At Birth Pestilence - Testimony of the Ancients Morbid Angel - Blessed Are the Sick Unleashed - Where No Life Dwells Grave - Into the Grave Atrocity - Hallucinations Broken Hope - Swamped in Gore Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten
Immolation's Dawn of possession slays everything DM in the 90's, until it met Incantation's Onward to Golgotha, a bastard of an album that fought way too dirty for Dawn of possession to even stand a chance, but such is the way of the circle of the tyrants.
My Top 5 Death Metal Masterpiece from 1991: 01. MORBID ANGEL - Blessed Are the Sick 02. CANNIBAL CORPSE - Butchered at Birth 03. SUFFOCATION - Effigy of the Forgotten 04. DEATH - Human 05. CANCER - Death Shall Rise Cheer and beers from the Philippines!
1. Atheist - Unquestionable Presence 2. Morbid Angel - Blessed are the Sick 3. Pestilence - Testimony of the Ancients 4. Asphyx - The Rack 5. Immolation - Dawn of Possession
I remember getting Dawn of Possession on cassette and not getting into it so I went back to the record store and exchanged it for Necrotism. It took me years to appreciate Dawn for what it is.
Awsome år för death metal också.🤘💀🤘 för mej va det grymt fram till runt 1995 96 med at the gates slaughter of the soul sen efter det så tyckte jag att death metal blev som han i metal evolution sa i episodet om extrem metal att det blev stale and overdone.

A great list and damn, what a year! Only a few I thought of that didn’t pop up in the honourable mentions:
Tiamat - The Astral Sleep
Xysma - Yeah
Sadistik Exekution - The Magus
Cheers!
Great selection!!!!. But I would have included Cancer - Death Shall Rise ( for the great work of james murphy)
and Malevolent Creation - The Ten Commandments, with the rest, I agree.
Cheers!
Agree very good call
Totally agree, + Gorefest "Mindloss" for me!
Stories about Brooklyn scare me
Sounds insane, we hardly even lock the doors here. :)
Binging all your top 10 thrash and death metal albums atm, really enjoying it and getting to know some great bands I didn't know before 😄
Only sidenote on this one is that you played Suffocations EP version of Infecting the Crypts, which came out a year earlier!
Cheers!
Cheers
Some real masterpieces in this top, probably the most well known records !
Would have only added The Ten Commandments by Malevolent Creation
Cheers!!
How cool bro, I'm Brazilian and I'm enjoying your series a lot. Keep producing it please. Hugs!
Cheers!
Keep forgetting to vote but
1. Blessed are the sick

What a year for death metal was good old 1991! By that time I was hooked on this music like a crack addict. Hell I still am! Nice top ten bro!
Thanks, Cheers!
Cheers! 🍺
This list is fantastic! Ever Flowing Stream is my favorite album for this year. I know the list is voted on by the Discord, but I'm still curious to hear more of your opinions on some of these
I'm such a noob when it comes to death metal. I'm more of a heavy/thrash/doom guy. Cheers!
5 Carcass: corporal jigsore quandary
4 Autopsy: mental funeral
3 Morbid angel: blessed are the sick
2 Cannibal corpse: butchered at birth
1 Death: human
Cheers!
@@RuthlessMetalYT If you can make a video for the top 10 black metal albums of the 90s. Cheers🤘🤘
@@vaggelis6349 We're going to do some sort of BM vote some day too. maybe not a yearly list.
thanks for giving the songs enough play-time for us to have a listen, instead of going over them quickly or not playing them at all, it's a great format, cheers \m/
Cheers!
Thank you SO much! There is very little Death Metal coverage on the RUclips machine. It is awesome to see!
Thanks boss! Cheers!
Has to be carcass for me followed closely by dismember, bolt thrower, morbid angel and death. Great video again fella
Oh shit yeah testimony of the ancients is in my top 5 dm albums of All time
Cheers! 🍺
My high school graduation year and a great time to be a young metalhead! 🤘
Glad I'm alive to be an old metalhead!!!
Yeah, we're all old farts now. ;) Cheers!
Me too
Me too brotha. Class of '91. We're a dying breed.
@@Powermad-bu4em indeed, we are.
I'm a young metal head and I like the old stuff it's awesome and badass I like both thrash metal and death metal
It's funny, I agreed with all the thrash videos but I disagree so much on the death metal videos. It's got the perfect mix, the discord has great taste, but I would rank the albums differently. Doesn't matter, another KILLER video! Cheers!🍺
Yeah, the thrash videos were my lists + the internet vote, the death metal vids are just the internet vote since I'm a DM noob. ;) Cheers!
1991 is THE year of deathmetal. So many classics !
Cheers!
Great video, great list, so many great albums on and not on the list.
Did you play the Human Waste version of Infecting the Crypts by mistake or because you prefer that version?
I messed up when compiling the list.
Cheers!
One of my favorite albums that came out in 1991 is Obituary: Cause of Death
It came out in 1990 and it was on my list in that video. ;) Cheers! 🤘
@@RuthlessMetalYT Oh okay, thanks for the correction
Nice top ten! But I would of ranked them differently. 🤘
Cheers!!
1991 was peak year for death metal. Pretty much all bands released an excellent album to a masterpiece. It's easier to count bands that didn't release an album that year than the ones that did hahaha
Cheers!
My top 5🤘
1. Dismember-Like an Everflowing Stream
2.Autopsy-Mental Funeral
3.Immolation-Dawn of Possession
4.Entombed-Clandestine
5.Bolt Thrower-War Master

Killer list, Suffocation and Death is a toggle for my number one. I’d say it would depend on my mood. Both are such great albums! Looking forward to 92… perhaps I’ll vote for ‘93 when it becomes available
the 92 vote is up right now. Cheers!
@@RuthlessMetalYT thanks I thought it would’ve been closed out. I just went on there and voted
Effigy of the Forgotten is my only 10/10 death metal albums, then Human, Pierced, Cause of Death... etc
Good Job!!
Cheers!
Cheers!
Un buen año, mi favorito es el "Blessed Are The Sick" . 10 buenas muestras de cuando molaba el Death Metal. Un saludo.

Another top notch video. Every one of those albums deserves to be on that list.

Gorguts : Considered Dead is one of the best death metal albums of all time. It's also strange that CC's Butchered at Birth missed the list, a very strong album.
1991 was crazy and Butchered at Birth was barely missed the top 10 as it landed on the 11th place. Cheers! 🤘🏻
