Longtime supporter of HHR. Love the channel, man! So, we are the same age. Let's see how this matches up. I'm writing this before I watch it, and just doing one album from each band. And damn, if certain bands I love, such as Sadistic Intent, for example, had a full-length, they’d be on here in a heartbeat! My top 20 (in no specific order): 1. "Legion" - Deicide, 2. "Altars of Madness" - Morbid Angel, 3. "Eaten Back to Life" - Cannibal Corpse, 4. "Seven Churches" - Possessed, 5. "None So Vile" - Cryptopsy, 6. “Failures for Gods" - Immolation, 7. Oh, we are doing 22? Okay... Yeah, Krisiun's "Apocalyptic Revelations," definitely... . And... because it was the first one I heard from them, Exhumed's "Slaughtercult." I guess today it'd be considered more grind? Whatever. But back when I first heard Exhumed, I simply viewed it as death metal. I'm sure some won't see Sadistik Exekution as "pure" death metal either, which I can understand... Never had Apocalyptic Revelations on vinyl. Gonna pick it up on HHR!
@@humanbrisket7718 Yeah, man, that one is just something out of this world. It took a few spins to wrap my mind around it. But when it hits, fucking amazing!
A few of mine that weren't listed are" Suffocation-Pierced from Within, Morbid Angel- Covenant, Obituary-Slowly We Rot. I stepped out of the room for a little bit so I apologize if that Obituary album was listed.
Hey Jdawg. Just saw your video on Whitechapel. I'm from their hometown, and they absolutely fucked the "metal" scene here. Made everyone want to buy some lame ass digital amp,a dress shirt, and write bland shit. They inspired a lot of people, and even inspired me. Inspired me to get into better stuff like exhumed, goatwhore, macabre, destroyer 666,and so on....
Good on ya. Personally I think their demos and first album are decent but other than that, meh. The new shit is terrible with the whiny singing and shit.
@@MANGRINDER_band_ static bands, and static folks. It's a basic watered down formula to hook bros, and dudes more concerned about what time the sportsball is on. Not everyone in who listens to it is like that, but a huge chunk is.
@@kolemyers21 I don't personally know anybody besides me who listens to deathcore (metal is not very popular amongst young people in Spain, which is dominanted by latin trap and reggaeton) so you might be right idk. What I really hate about deathcore is how all those fucking idiots on yt react to every single new song by the latest Lorna Shore copy cat and pretend to be excited for it and go nuts when the "totally unexpected chug chug breakdown" hits. It's all so fucking boring, those mfs don't even know who Suffocation and Criptopsy are. But still, I don't care how the fanbase as a whole is, I'm just in for the music. If you ever want to give the genre a second chance I recommend Shadow Of Intent's latest album (not a single breakdown on that one) and in a more typical deathcore style the latest Fit For And Autopsy one, which has well implemented breakdowns and grooves hard. Also check out Lunacrium Thepsis by The Dark Alamorte if you like blackened stuff.
As someone else mentioned, Nesphite by Demilich. That's a fucking masterpiece of a record. Also Bolt Thrower's Those Once Loyal and Bloodbath's Nightmares Made Flesh are probably my favorite dm records of all time along with Pierced From Within and Once Upon The Cross
Human fuckin rules. Suicide Machine kicks ass. I think I first heard a song from that album on Headbangers Ball. I’m trying to remember the damn song title
I don’t own my favorite death metal album sadly. I was gonna get it at my local record store but my mom flipped out when she saw the back (it was the hell’s headbangers reissue) hahaha so I had to settle for Immolation - Here in After

Love how J Dawg is always preaching how the young devils should know the ROOTS of death metal! I think most people who do listen to Death Metal DO have an interest in the early bands, moreso than other genres at least. My heart goes out to you devils, though, because there is sooooooo much out there and so much constantly coming out. Ans that's a good thing. Got one life and the well is endless!
Great stuff! Several of those are on my tentative list (will finalize sooner or later) while I would have chosen a different album for a few others. I'd never heard of Centurian, so thanx for introducing me to them! (Strangely, I'd recently explored Dutch death metal, yet they passed me by.) A couple years ago my daughter was listening to Slipknot; I shared a couple tracks from None So Vile with her and she was immediately hooked. (I 100% agree it's all killer, no filler!) She soon explored the early greats (Morbid Angel, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, etc) and then found black metal via Marduk. Currently, she listens to more black metal than anything, but still visits Cryptopsy and Morbid Angel regularly.

OBITUARY Cause Of Death was my first DEATH METAL album. That was early 1991. We all know what an incredible year for DM that was. I think I was in the right place at the right time. I would go to CAMELOT MUSIC in the mall, go straight to the METAL section, and start at A and go through everything to Z. I remember staring at the artwork for COD thinking "with an album cover this killer, the music has to be good". I have a clear memory pushing play on it the first time, and that intro, the death drums, the gnarly tone of the guitars... then the vocals hit me. That was it. I still get that feeling when I listen to it.
It gunna lie, when I was 8 years old I thought slipknot was super heavy. But, then I heard eviseration plague a year or 2 later, and slaves shall serve by behemoth and was like, yeah that’s way too much for me. But when I got a little older it hit hard.
You must be younger than me I'm guessing. I'm a year older than the dawg and when Slipknot came out I was around 16 or so. I mainly remember thinking some of it was ok and some of it was completely crap.
I'm about Dawg's age, but I found CC, Obituary, Brujeria and Gorguts when I was 10, so Slipknot was just embarrassing by the time I heard 'em. My friends used to screw with me and call my Suffocation hat a Slipknot hat

Crypt of Kerberos? Sadistic Intent? Crimson Massacre? Hard pick. yes i like florida dm, old school tech death & thrashy shit how did you know

Longtime supporter of HHR. Love the channel, man! So, we are the same age. Let's see how this matches up. I'm writing this before I watch it, and just doing one album from each band. "Altars of Madness" - Morbid Angel, 3. "Eaten Back to Life" - Cannibal Corpse, 4. "Seven Churches" - Possessed, 5. "None So Vile" - Cryptopsy, 6. “Failures for Gods" - Immolation, 7. "Galloping Through the Battle Ruins" - Arghoslent, 13. “Mental Funeral” - Autopsy, 14. “The Karelian Isthmus” - Amorphis, 15. “Retribution” - Malevolent Creation, 16. “We Are Death...

The first three Sinister albums are some of the best Death Metal ever made!🔥
@@zacharyseibert4526 Yeah the other two as well. Pure brutality🔥
Macbre is so badass
Damn why all the hate lol. I enjoy both Deathcore and Death Metal. Although I like dm more because deathcore tends to be more formulaic and static
None So Vile is also my GOAT Canadian album. It's my favorite thing to come out of Canada.
None So Vile and Temples Of Knowledge were the best 90’s Canadian death metal albums
I concur
As someone else mentioned, Nesphite by Demilich. That's a fucking masterpiece of a record. Also Bolt Thrower's Those Once Loyal and Bloodbath's Nightmares Made Flesh are probably my favorite dm records of all time along with Pierced From Within and Once Upon The Cross
Pierced is #1, of all music, period

Love how J Dawg is always preaching how the young devils should know the ROOTS of death metal! I think most people who do listen to Death Metal DO have an interest in the early bands, moreso than other genres at least. My heart goes out to you devils, though, because there is sooooooo much out there and so much constantly coming out. Ans that's a good thing. Got one life and the well is endless!
Great stuff!
Several of those are on my tentative list (will finalize sooner or later) while I would have chosen a different album for a few others. I'd never heard of Centurian, so thanx for introducing me to them! (Strangely, I'd recently explored Dutch death metal, yet they passed me by.)
A couple years ago my daughter was listening to Slipknot; I shared a couple tracks from None So Vile with her and she was immediately hooked.
Your passion for life and music is so inspiring man your such a legendary dude, I agree with all your choices except I think Leprosy or SBG deserved a spot, or even Spiritual or Human. Chuck is God! Keep up the amazing work Man!

Winds of creation rules!
Good list, shout out to Winds of Creation by Decapitated! Don't agree with the Dying Fetus pick though, I think that's one of their worst albums.
@@RandyBeans69 that is one of my favorites to listen to. I crank that bitch a couple times a month
Great list J dawg💯💯💯👌
God damn that's a good God damn list God dammnit
That opener on luck of the corpse blasting when you drive down an old ass DARK ASS country road after midnight is what is feels like to actually live..........trees and shadows and a cool breeze. Fucking banger.
Killen it....couldn't agree more bro...hails and horns to you!!!
Maybe it's just me, but I think Butchered at Birth is the best Cannibal Corpse album. Pretty sure Barnes once said that Butchered gets overshadowed by Tomb and personally I agree with him.
I kinda agree but there’s something about tomb… but the songs on butchered are killer, that’s probably the most unique CC album.
Though if the vocals were better I’d pick eaten any day of the week, love the thrashing riffs
One of my friends from back in high school. Was huge in to grunge, Guns N Roses, AC/DC, Danzig, and Cannibal Corpse-Butchered At Birth. He would jam. Vomit The Soul between Smells Like Teen Spirit and Rocket Queen. He was a goofy dude

I remember a young 1 year old J dawg saying we should burn a church, way above his time .I gave him my nail belt some gas and sent him on his way.
Hell yes, every one of these are masterpieces. Pretty sure have all of these. Great list.
I love the lyrics on Tomb of the Mutilated. They upset and offended everyone.
They made me laugh at how fuckin over the top they were. Love that album
