      No worries Mary. Empty pots are the thing I always forget and it is such a shame when you find out a few nicer ones have cracked because of lack of care :(

    Excellent video. Remember what they say an once of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Packed most of my trees away already. Spring cant come soon enough

      @@XaviersBonsaiRetreat 🤣 i think u covered winter care very well. How do u think larches do in the winter if they are in a small pot . I put mine in the shed just for this year just in case cause i bought it at the national show. Next year im putting it in slightly bigger pot

      Anything in a small pot I tend to keep in the cold frame as a precaution.@@Chris-oq6kn

    For those who must leave vulnerable plants outside, you can get frost protection by covering them with cheap blankets and sheets from the thrift store, like some farmers do.

      Cheers Jen - I have realised that I need to play catch up in that area if I wan tto keep going with this. I have just started using Davinci Resolve - blowing my mind how good it is. So fast on everything :)

      Massive difference and to do the basic editing is fast. i am slowly learning how to use all the fancy stuff. Even the color grading is helping now. God bless@@YesYouCanHomeEducate

    So much work!! Ack! I'm jealous. The temperature inside the trailer where the trees are was -18C today. The windchill outside was minus stupid. The dog poo didn't even have time to steam before it froze.

      Morning Martina - very cold here now but I am braving a sock on my foot and a shoe as well...Mass is calling me. The frost is thick on the grass and i am so glad I spent 3 hours yesterday doing my final garden tree shuffle. Stay well :)

    Great info - must attend to a few of your mentioned chores tomorrow while the sun is still out. Some pretty awesome trees in the update section as well - love seeing what other people love growing. Hope your toe is mending properly - some data entry will be just the trick to keep things high & dry!

    Another great advice video. Man I hate this cold weather. I was out moving all my trees into the greenhouses after work the other night at 11.30pm as it was getting to -1. Now I have a cold 🥶. Winter sucks in this hobby 😂

    Brilliant video Xavier and lots of great information. As you know I go a bit over the top with winter protection but I'm trying to reign that in a bit this year. I've got more trees outside this year than I ever have. Wish me luck 🙏

      It's typical that we are having this freakish early cold snap. Threats of wind chill at -15C :(

      I appreciate the support and kind words. This is a great community and has been my salvation since the death of my wife in 2020. Unfortunately that Elm was one of her gifts to me as a 'rememberance'. I have two like that - I am so lucky :)

      It is so warm and perfect for cold winter walks. It makes people laugh at me in this country. I do wonder why you keep showing up in my 'possible spam' section. It drives me nuts :)

      Truthfully, they are the cheapest I could find on UK ebay. I am about to purchase a load more for next spring. I can find out the dealer if that is of interest.

    Winter = move tropicals to the basement...the dishwasher does an excellent job of cleaning pots..just don't tell my wife..😂😂

      It's typical, we are having a freakish early cold snap with threats of wind chill at -15C. The wind is always the bigger factor in my garden. You just gave me a perfect excuse to get dishwasher :)

    Hi Xav. What's the name of your Dormant / winter wash spray? Good advice on checking the bench structural integrity, just found mine are a bit unsteady. Joe's Bonsai garden looks great too 👍

    Hi Xav. Thanks for your excelent video. Can you tell us the name of Polland Company you odered from your a Potting soil. I have a problem to find the small fraction of pemza or lava in our country and Polland is Close to us. Thanks.

    Ottimo video come sempre, qui nel nord Italia abbiamo temperature vicine ai zero gradi e i miei bonsai sono tutti in serra fredda, anche se ho notato che qualcosa non va perche' anche se gli alberelli sono riparati dal vento gelido e dalla pioggia all'interno della serra ho la stessa temperatura di fuori e non so sia normale, buona fortuna

      Lo stesso vale in Inghilterra. La grande differenza è che sono protetti dai venti gelidi e dalla pioggia eccessiva che impregna i vasi. Il mio cold frame raramente scende sotto -1. La maggior parte dei miei bonsai sono in realtà resistenti fino a -5. Grazie per le gentili parole :)
