No worries Mary. Empty pots are the thing I always forget and it is such a shame when you find out a few nicer ones have cracked because of lack of care :(
Excellent video. Remember what they say an once of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Packed most of my trees away already. Spring cant come soon enough
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat 🤣 i think u covered winter care very well. How do u think larches do in the winter if they are in a small pot . I put mine in the shed just for this year just in case cause i bought it at the national show. Next year im putting it in slightly bigger pot
Thank you! For those who must leave vulnerable plants outside, you can get frost protection by covering them with cheap blankets and sheets from the thrift store, like some farmers do.
Cheers Jen - I have realised that I need to play catch up in that area if I wan tto keep going with this. I have just started using Davinci Resolve - blowing my mind how good it is. So fast on everything :)

Excellent Winter Care video Xav, thank you for your down to earth yet humorous words of wisdom 👍 I was just thinking that you have a very small greenhouse when you corrected me, it’s a cold frame! Biggest one I’ve ever seen!! God bless you 🙏✝️. ✌️🇷🇺☮️🇺🇦✌️. ✌️🤍🇮🇱✝️✌️
So much work!! Ack! I'm jealous. The temperature inside the trailer where the trees are was -18C today. The windchill outside was minus stupid. The dog poo didn't even have time to steam before it froze.
Hi Xavier, enjoyed this one. 🤩 Subscriber trees are beautiful. Susan’s challenge tree might to need some big pruning decisions. ✂️ Thanks for sharing 👍 Take care all ❤ Cheers 🙋♀️ Martina
Morning Martina - very cold here now but I am braving a sock on my foot and a shoe as well...Mass is calling me. The frost is thick on the grass and i am so glad I spent 3 hours yesterday doing my final garden tree shuffle. Stay well :)
Great info - must attend to a few of your mentioned chores tomorrow while the sun is still out. Some pretty awesome trees in the update section as well - love seeing what other people love growing. Hope your toe is mending properly - some data entry will be just the trick to keep things high & dry!
Another great advice video. Man I hate this cold weather. I was out moving all my trees into the greenhouses after work the other night at 11.30pm as it was getting to -1. Now I have a cold 🥶. Winter sucks in this hobby 😂
Brilliant video Xavier and lots of great information. As you know I go a bit over the top with winter protection but I'm trying to reign that in a bit this year. I've got more trees outside this year than I ever have. Wish me luck 🙏
This is my first winter as a bonsai enthusiast, and this is probably the best video I've seen. Informative, not scaring everyone and honest. Thanks mate, you have a new subscriber. By the way, I absolutely love that ramified elm over rock, if you want to sell , please think of me first lol
I appreciate the support and kind words. This is a great community and has been my salvation since the death of my wife in 2020. Unfortunately that Elm was one of her gifts to me as a 'rememberance'. I have two like that - I am so lucky :)
Top video Xav! Watched this whilst making tea. It will help me to plan what I need to do. I love the hat. My father-in-law has one very similar to yours lol 😀
It is so warm and perfect for cold winter walks. It makes people laugh at me in this country. I do wonder why you keep showing up in my 'possible spam' section. It drives me nuts :)
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat I think you look good in the hat. When I’m walking the dogs I don’t care what I wear. I’m at that age now it doesn’t matter as long as I’m warm. 😊
Truthfully, they are the cheapest I could find on UK ebay. I am about to purchase a load more for next spring. I can find out the dealer if that is of interest.
It's typical, we are having a freakish early cold snap with threats of wind chill at -15C. The wind is always the bigger factor in my garden. You just gave me a perfect excuse to get dishwasher :)
Hi Xav. What's the name of your Dormant / winter wash spray? Good advice on checking the bench structural integrity, just found mine are a bit unsteady. Joe's Bonsai garden looks great too 👍
Hi Xav. Thanks for your excelent video. Can you tell us the name of Polland Company you odered from your a Potting soil. I have a problem to find the small fraction of pemza or lava in our country and Polland is Close to us. Thanks.
I’ve taken a lot on from this video for my first bonsai winter! Thanks Xav 🙏🏼🌳
Oh the joys of winter!
It seems to come every year :)
Thanks for the reminders. I had to pause your video and move empty ceramic pots, and some plants into my porch. It's snowing now
Woops, paused again, got to get the azalea!!

You've summed winter care up perfectly in just one sentence! Unfortunately I had to find a way to make that sentence last 2o minutes :)

No worries - I am looking out over a sea of frost right now :)
Hi Xavier, very interesting, entertaining and educational video. Thanks for that🙏👍
Cheers - my toe was throbbing so badly having to move so many trees about. Thankfully it is finally starting to recover from the operation :)
Great information Xavier!
Good morning raymond - cheers for the encouragement.
