Thankfully everyone understands this channel was a way for me to overcome the loss of my wife, father and mother back in 2020 - not become a success. Being 'long-term' unemployed my kids pushed me to do this to help keep me busy and to stop me from becoming depressed. We all have issues and I certainly don't advertise them or expect people to feel sorry for me. The problem with Social Media is that often people use it as a means of being nasty...or at best unhelpful. I rarely reply to these sort of unhelpful comments but felt you needed to recognise that this channel is about recovery not money. Stay happy and helathy and I hope your bonsai continue to flourish. God Bless
@simonr9524What kind of comment is this.....🤔🤔 jealousy perhaps? I'll have you know I've watched and learnt so much from Xavier. As he said to your ridiculous comment, this channel is a way of healing severe heartache and loss, One can only imagine what xav must've gone through that year, I'm sure if he just "piggy backed" and just "interviewed" people his subscriber count would not be so high. The money making is just proof of xavs hard work and genuine following. You sir should call it a day with comments like this...
@@AlexBraunton He may not have meant it that way - but I appreciate your support. Especially as I used your garden several times to piggy back my success :)
Again, great to see what you did with all that footage you filmed. Hopefully everyone enjoys watching as much as I did and thanks for the pleasure of your company - it was a real joy and pleasure 🙏
Speaking of click bait, there isn't much out there (especially in English language) for those of us who are interested only in shohin or smaller trees. Please give us more! I am in love with your beautiful trees. ❤❤❤
Lovely to see you two together, hardly watched anyone since Tony died. Hubby planted the common juniper from then, but I still haven't done anything with the hornbeam. Love how you are bringing the community together. Xx xav one of my favourite songs is When I see you smile by Bad English. Xx
I respect Jason's interest in process, not just in result. Hence, his interest in seed propagation, thread grafting, air-layering, and so on. I prefer to collect volunteer seedlings, like Japanese maple, oak, red cedar, chaste tree (vitex), common American elm. A late friend loved collecting oak seedlings from a stream bed, where he said you got natural trunk movement created by the water flow.
I think we all share the same diverse interest in this hobby. I get a lot more satisfaction from building a new tree than maintaining a purchased tree. Of course it is always great having a completed bonsai in your collection to look at in the morning with your coffee :)
I always enjoy the collaborations where you give viewpoints on several topics. I usually learn a thing or two or at least take inspiration. You are both "A-List" to me and will remain so until I can get at least one of my trees to look like Bjorn's (which is never gonna happen). Oh and that wonderful rock seems like it may break into 4 pieces just by adding water!
I still watch lots of bonsai channels and though I know a lot of the techniques I am still amazed by the bonsai that are produced. It can be like watching painters at work. Different approaches and results but generally always interesting.
I appreciate these thoughts you and Jason brought up. I'm still getting my old brain around AI, but you posed some good scenarios. The amount of work that goes into choosing, preparing and presenting new contents must be challenging. I love how each artist puts their own unique take on the process. Thank you for all your efforts!
Forgotten what I was going to say after reading Simon's comment ☹️ Anyway great interview and please do more with Jason in future. Excellent chemistry between you both.
Hi Xavier, A great video with you and Jason I loved every minute of it, you covered a lot over the few times you have been together, Jason is such a knowledgeable guy. Unfortunately I had a bad fall this week 😢not unusual for me now, with my big berberis tree, needless to say not only was I injured, the pot smashed which was a great pot plus the tree lost some branches, not sure which I am more sad about me the tree or the pot, fortunately I had training pot about the same size so got it potted in that. I can see a Christmas present with my name on it with luck.
Thanks Xavier and Jason. I had been looking forward to part two. It was interesting to hear your thoughts on AI, I use it in Photoshop, I take pictures of my trees and use it to remove branches before I, (in the words of Peter Chan) “bite the bullet”.
It’s never boring listening to you both. 🤩👍 Thank you so much 🙏 A little remark though, I’ld like to make regarding the videos graphic layout, Xavier. Long time ago, I learned not to mix typefaces in a PowerPoint presentation. Today’s multitude of styles of letters and text appearing kind of overwhelmed me… No offense, just feedback and of course a matter of taste. 😘 Enjoy your day 😊 Cheers 🙋♀️ Martina
Top notch xav and Jason looks forward to jelle joining forces just need Peter Chan to do an 8 RUclips journeys and 2025 would go off with a bang thanks both
I always learn something from both of your videos. Xavier, where is the email address for your viewer pictures? It doesn't seem to be on your website. One question for you both in the next chat - why does "real" bonsai demand these huge sumo trunks that frankly aren't at the scale of even the oldest trees? Nigel just took us on a great tour of real trees in his town and not one was shaped like a stump with branches. Is this some recent trend?
I am not a fan of Sumo trunks but it is something that has been part of bonsai for along time. Often seen with the Trident Maples. Just send to expressionsbonsai@gmail.com
Excellent video, as always 😎 I really like Jason's catsura and potato tree, personally I really like it how it is lol. Strangely... I purchased a Trident Maple from All Things Bonsai too (surprisingly, it was only £49!) and I'm doing the same thing as Jason in, except with cuttings - putting them on rocks. I also planted an apple seed in March, from a supermarket apple, and it's turning into a nice little crab apple 🙂 Online Bonsai School is a channel I watch regularly too, it's excellent for learning those traditional Japanese techniques. ... and regarding the username haha 😆 I've just always used 'anti-duck' as my username, but RUclips doesn't (or didn't; I'm not sure if things have changed) like the hyphen 😢 You're both A-list 😎 EDIT: Forgot to mention AI!.. it's literally the field that I used to work in haha 😆 I completely agree with Jason, it's a really useful tool, but I do understand concerns about it at the same time. With regards to fraud using AI on RUclips though... there's not much to worry about; there are already AI algorithms that can detect AI generated images which I'm sure RUclips could easily implement if it ever became a concern.
@XaviersBonsaiRetreat it's quite a big little tree! 😎 ... But seriously - about 45cm from the top of the soil to the top of the trunk, and it has about a 1 and a 1/2 inch thick main trunk (maybe a bit thicker... my judgement is rubbish); I was surprised at what I got for the price. Put it that way 😎 I was thinking the price of trident and Itoigawa juniper seem to have increased, but I thought it was just me haha 😆
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat is there any way that I can send you a picture? I think it was, perhaps, so cheap, because it had some ugly surface roots and some inverse taper.
great video both. i enjoy the content i have a tree that needs a couple of fresh eyes for ideas its an acer palmatum with 13 inch nebari and stands about 20 inches tall it is growing superb with loads of potential. would you both look at it for me ? i would be over the moon if you would :)
Another great video. Click bate🤔🤔🤔 I’m not bothered about titles it’s more about the person on the video, I have to enjoy that persons videos if I do I’ll watch them no mater what.
Great video Xavier and from Jason a really informative to how and why not only Bonsai trees but to how you go about editing and using the tools available and that’s what really sets you guys apart from a lot of people even though I have only been doing well trying would be more accurate Bonsai is more than enough learning for me as for doing films of the process my head would explode it’s taken enough years to find how my smart phone works lol 😂 keep up the great work you guys do it’s appreciated 🫶
Xavier... In 2.5 year. You have learnt just to piggy back other people's success and "interview them". Call it a day.

We had a great day and so much stuff was left out...so may feature in something else :)

what.. I need to come over to the UK in September too??😢🎉
That’s when I will be on the big boat sipping cocktails 🛳️
@TheBonsaiGarden ok..Where do Xav and go for these coctails?
I think people want you to move nearby :)
We can have another sailing series from you jason :)
My son makes great cocktails :)
Need a bit more soil in that air layer pocket ?
My Maple air layer this year is set to over winter with luck.
Bonsai do take Time 😂
I still find it strange that two trees of the same species can react so differently to being airlayered. Patience is the key...as you say
