    It's simple to create a simple mini fish pond for you back patio, deck or garden. In today's guide I will walk you though an easy tutorial that will highlight all the necessary equipment and where to find everything you need online. A mini fish pond can technically be created using any vessel that will hold water and typically sits above the ground, no digging required! If you find yourself here but want to learn about creating a small in-ground pond with an insert, here is an article we made previously. Some people use large planter pots, others use pre-fabricated above ground pond kits that are available from a few retailers. Today, we will cover a simple and cheap diy pond that can be made with only a few easy to find parts and pieces. Check out the full blog post here: aquaproshq.com...

    Love this video! Got a question for you: We're setting up a small pond (ca. 17 gal) for the first time, and thought we did things well enough to be pre-cycled . . . used a large, established sponge for bio-filtration, started out with transferring water from established tanks, loaded up on plants from established aquariums . . . but the nitrite (middle step in cycle) is still reading high -- though the nitrate is also increasing daily. What would you do to get it ready to add fish? Add some bacteria supplement (e.g. "Cycle")? Water Change and assume the best since nitrate is being produced? Add another established sponge filter? Just curious.

    I killed my goldfish in a galvanized container. It usually happens slowly. So you don’t know why they died. But goldfish live for a long time when properly cared for. If the water is being changed daily, or the container is old, then it is ok. But if the water is not being changed often, (DAILY) then it slowly poisons them.

    Galvanized is not good for fish, beside the galvanized leaches out zinc, which is good for plants, other animals, but not fish. There are several studies on the zinc from galvanized tanks and the dangers it has on fish. I took my 100Galloon back due to that. I hope all is OK with your fish.

    Hey Mike! How's this pond doing? I just made my own pond with that exact same tub, but I noticed the water gets pretty warm after a while. It is in direct sunlight from morning up until 2 or 3 ish I think. I created a make shift cover for half the tub today, so we'll so how it holds up tomorrow during the day. Do you recommend me moving it to a shaded area? I'm scared if I do the pond plants won't get their daily sunlight. I also added some "fatheads" and they all died after a couple minutes. Even when I let them adjust through the bag. Just added a water pump today and there's also a small filter which really doesn't do much

    • @Lazy_Fish_Keeper
      @Lazy_Fish_Keeper 3 года назад +5

      It sounds like the water was oxygen depleted when you added the fish.
      Latitude and temp affect how hot the water gets, and how much aeration is needed.
      My friend in Dubai has to keep the pond in shade after 8 am, and has to run a pump and fountain from 8 am to 10 pm so the water doesn't overheat. They also had to select fish that matched the temps, and have the fish imported.
      Keep 75% of the surface covered with floating plants (and not more than 85%) to reduce evaporation.

    Hey there😁 I live in Las Vegas and am building a pond for my small patio at my apartment in the next 2 weeks. I'm experienced with ponds but it's been about 5 years since I've had a house with a yard. I get great morning sun until about noon but not a lot of light the rest of the day. I'd love to have flowering plants, can you recommend a pretty one that would do well in the Las Vegas heat? I will have a stronger current with a waterfall to help cool and oxygenate the water, however I've never had such a small pond. What are your thoughts on the material that would be best to cool the pond? Do you think that a liner is the way to go or a galvanized Steele would be better to keep it cool? Thank you in advance lol

      @@arthurdewith7608 If it wasn't clear enough I was concerned with the bowing. Albeit I have never used one of these so your word is more useful then mine here.

    Even hardy fish like minnows shouldn't go in it if the pond is in a full sun area?

    Does the Aquaclear HOB really work outside exposed to the sun and rain? I have an extra AC 50 somewhere that I could put to good use in a setup like this but in rains fairly frequently in Houston, and I wonder if it would work

      If your “mini” pond is set up correctly there’s no need for filtration at all. Plants and fish will live of each other. In Japan as well as in tropical locations like S. Florida they fend(the fish and the plants) for themselves. Rainwater is their water change with occasional fish loses. No biggy if fish are reproducing. Lastly a power head or a water jet maybe used to create current, but even that is not necessary but optional. Some fish species do not like heavy flows like the rice fish.
