Buffalo Airways Lockheed L-188 Electra RARE VISIT to Calgary Airport!

  • This may very well be the catch of the year! Due to the ongoing crisis in B.C., quite a few additional cargo flights have taken place between Calgary and Vancouver.
    Buffalo Airways of "Ice Pilots NWT" has now joined these flights, bringing one of their Lockheed Electras all the way down from Yellowknife to carry some supplies to Vancouver!
    It can't be overstated how exceedingly rare this is - yes, you could drive an hour north to Red Deer and see a dozen Electras on the ground, but to actually see one flying on one of Canada's busiest air routes is unheard of in 2021! Enjoy this rare Electra action!

    Thank you so much, Alex. Lockheed Electra was a very special plane here in Brazil: she flew for almost 30 years in Varig's colors, with no fatalities, and, between 1975 and 1992, wrote a wonderful history in Rio-São Paulo shuttle. My grandfather conducted this machine in her first years in our country, perhaps 1962-1964 or 65 (domestic and international routes).

    I don't ever tire of looking at L-188 ELECTRA's but to see and hear those ALLISON's qualifies for overkill. With the props nice and loud from the front to the shrill sound of the turbines exhaust at the rear, I'm glad I came across your video. Day and Night at that! Nice.

      What’s the emergency in Canada?

    • @gerardacronin334
      @gerardacronin334 Год назад

      @@paulgray2387 Your question comes over a year and a half after my comment. In late 2021 there was severe flooding in Western Canada that washed away over 20 bridges on a major highway (the Coquihalla), washed away homes and rail lines, killed several people. In the immediate aftermath, road and rail access between the West Coast of Canada and areas east of the Rocky Mountains was cut off. This led to major supply chain problems and constraints on national and international trade. 35 days later the Coquihalla highway was open again.

That aircraft originally delivered to American Airlines as N6123A on October 22, 1959, named Flagship Nashville, their 23rd of 35 Electras. That one sold in 1967. Compared to many other Buffalo Airways aircraft including their DC-3s and C-46s I guess it's a relative youngster at only age 62!
