You should see some of Buffalo's other fleet. Their newest is a Boeing 737-300... Besides that they have a couple of Electras, a fleet of DC-3s and they even used to fly a DC-6 as a passenger service to hay River.
I always say is, but Canada has the most interesting airline industry in the world. We fly everyone from large to small, brand new to WWII era, jet and prop, long paved runways to short dirt strips. Its truly impressive
There´re not much places left over where you still can see a Curtiss C-46 Commando depart! Thank you very much for this very unusual Plane-Spotting!😃💛👍 - Summer in the Arctic!🌝 -
I used to visit Barranquilla airport (BAQ) back in the mid 70s as a teen and the C-46 was operated by the airline Aerosucre. The airline still operates today, sans the Commando. Used to hang out with the mechanics and saw them test run its engines. Love the sound of those propellers. Seeing it taxing and take off sure touched memories. They wore different colors, one was painted purple and was nicknamed the “Obispo”, the Bishop in Spanish. Again, thanks for sharing. Semper Fi! And Post Tenebras Lux

For a good primer on how the north was opened to aviation: The Max Ward Story. By Max Ward. (includes all the political aspects of Canadian government protecting Air Canada's monopoly).
I don’t understand why this dc-46 is still in operation in 2023. This was a plane conceived during the WWII. It’s a nonsense to me. It most cost a fortune to operate and to find parts
Many airports are gravel jet aircraft have a hard time with that….have you seen the size of a C46 cargo door and the amount of weight it can handle Buffalo operates 2 C46s and a few DC3S check out a show called ice pilots NWT and you will understand
That C-46 is seriously cool.
Agree! It's like being sent back several decades. Imagine the passenger experience :) If you want to go back in time then get a ride on that :)

Absolute chonker
I had probably never looked at a plane take off in any more awd than I did watching the Curtiss take off 😵
long runway , very gentle on the engines..
Yellowknife Airport - where legends never die!
It's amazing how the Curtiss C-46 can maintain flight for such long periods of time.
They flew the hump during World War II. Look it up.

The Flying in The Far North is like no where else in Canada. Great to see the Buffalo. That made my day 💗💗

Fantastic work! Now this is MY kind of planespotting 😎 2 thumbs up
Excellent footage! Certainly the best content from Yellowknife I've seen since Ice Pilots.
Always good to see an old warbird like AVO still taking to the skies. Glorious old bit of old kit!!
Curtiss is a gem!
What an eclectic mix. But that C46 trumps them all.
It is probably the best planespotting video in Yellowknife Airport. There is no match so far. Well done, Alex. 👍👍👍
I love the 737-200s for some reason
Red news? The Canadian north won’t be flying them anymore
@@titanicbigship Ye but I do like them
Cool seeing the 737 with gravel kits eh! Thanks for posting eh! Some beauty footage eh!
Crazy to see not one, but two 737-200s in 2023, but operated by different carriers is another level.
And the Dash 7
@@aviatorsplanet8219 Much at this Airport Traffic looked like a Free Space Museum.
@@NicolaW72 Yep, love it
Thank you. 😀 just great. John Batchelor. NZ.
Great video...the C-46 takes the cake but the DASH 7s are great icing on the cake! Oh and other aircraft are great too....thanks for all your "work"!
737-200 .. the great sound of the P&W JT8D engines.
Outstanding piece. Great catch on the C-46.

Oh yes, Aerosucre🤢 - another chapter.
Well that was an amazing group of aircraft in one shot, well done!
Probably the most interesting airport for plane spotting. Nice variety and no boring airbus :p
the summit Dornier flight was my very last flight has captain on type. thanks for the video Alex

@@CivilStig yes boeing 757/767
@@williamdenis6384 congratulations! very cool aircraft. wishing you many safe flights!
Feels like the only things missing were an Electra and a DC-4 or 6.
Fantastic video Alex! Get to see some old classics featured too!😊
How to experience classic plane spottings:
Step 1:go to canada
Step 2:plane spot
Step 3:done
How do you hold your camera so steady for all this long telephoto? This is amazing planespotting!
I suspect he has a really good fluid head on his tripod.
Amazing video Alex!
Beautifully done, extremely interesting, thanks
I love this plane spotting videos, keep up the good work alex
Cool, there is still a TACAN in Yellowknife.
Pretty much anywhere the CAF still operates.
such a cool video. great variety of aircraft and very nice videography, great job!
What an airport!
Love those gravel kits
Fantastic compilation !!!
Good video...lots of classics
Thanks this is great stuff!
aint no way you uploaded this while im IN yellowknife right now
That c-46 is CRAAAAAAZZZYYYYY 😂 4:09
Why did the C46 have the Lufthansa logo under the cockpit?
I looked it up: C-FAVO was owned by Lufhansa from 1964 to 1969 under the registration: N9891Z
It also took part in the Berlin Airlift
@@Jil1A Really crazy!😃👍 There will be not much of that Aircrafts left over which are still flying. Thank you very much for this informations.
@@Jil1A wow. that really puts into perspective how old the aircraft is.
My dad once had been on a Curtis C-46
Great background at 13.50 ,,,,802 fire bosses
Good one.
My other half will be up there today. No time to plane watch though sadly.

Did you see Mikey?
Where can I see what you look like?
Oh my home
I like to see where those Buffalo transports fly to ?
@@simon51209 Not true at all. The C46s usually fly to Hay River, Norman Wells, etc
Sigh

I’ve seen Ice Pilots.
DC-46??
Most things built these days just aren’t as good. Some time ago there was pride. Now most everything just gets farmed out to lowest bidder.
The Commando is easy to understand, you see. Find parts? Yup hard to but not impossible. A fortune to operate? It wouldn’t be operating, would it?
Alex, thank you so much for this marvellous video. You were the “icing on the cake” with it for my Mother’s Day. 🛫🛬
