Chuck's the real star of the show, real old school mechanic, the world needs a lot more like him. Most of the newbie's I work with aren't worth the space they take up, a few month's with Chuck would sort them out.
2023: I have flown on a DC3. Once with American Airlines when I was a kid. My father worked for American and once with the FAA when they were checking out the new runway approach VASI Lights that we had just installed at Cannon AFB in New Mexico in 1974. No GPS then. Just look our the window.
from one Aircraft Mechanic to another , Chuck is the man I have learned so much from the old timer engineers/mechanics they have knowledge that can't be bought or read out of a book it's good ole hands on experience and that's gold
As a prior P-3 Orion mechanic I agree with others here. CHUCK IS AWESOME!!! I've been out for 13yrs and he just made me feel like I was back in the Navy. He acts exactly like a Flight Engineer. You are one cool cat bro! Pull out all those breakers and make them pee their pants. (I noticed you pulled #2's Temp Datum breaker, yeah nice, you should see a flux on your TIT gauge) You are also 100% correct Chuck, that is one awesome airplane and they don't make them like that anymore. She's a beast! Fuel PIG for sure!!!. Though the T56-A14 put out 4600 shaft horsepower so we could beat that old pig's speed easy.
British-mechanic Agreed, the gentleman's way of explaining the various aspects of the aircraft is excellent and enjoyable. The only problem I've got is the habit of the wings falling off. Check out "The Tell City Crash"on Google. Don't let him kid you, he says "ooott" instead of out just like a real Canuck, but he was born in Tampa, raised in Manhattan (upper east side) New York City, educated at Villanova and Penn. He's high society man, The last time he ate dinner without wearing a Tux was when he went to one of those uppity summer camps in the Poconos, he was 10.
got to test the first C models the navy bought. We loaded it with bags of buckshot and took it out to test it under positive and negative g's. Bent the right wing up and the left wing down.....(a little). It brought us back and we ferried it across the country to Burbank. Boy was Lockheed pissed! Fantastic airplane though.
Thanks Chuck. Greetings from Dunedin, New Zealand. Gotta love the L188, once they got the wings and harmonics sorted out of course! It has stood the test of time and still going. How come they don't have to throw them away once they have done so many cycles of pressurization? is it just that they still have many cycles left in the airframes because those particular birds are relatively low cycle and/or low time planes?
Canadian airplanes are routinely bought by the Americans to examine the airframes, because we use them for thousands of hours past what the Americans use theirs. Particularly in our Air Force.
2023: I have flown on these with American Airlines when I was a kid. My father worked for American. Wonderful Airplane AND That Sound! Very interesting and informative. Thank You and Best Regards.
This guy is in the wrong show, he should have starred in the movie 'Deliverance' with Burt Reynolds.................you know..........."he's got a priity mouth":-):-):-)
I don't know who Did the editing for this video however I think that a man of Chuck's age and stature in life should be able to express himself without such follow language so I will not now be subscribing to the chapel which I did enjoy watching that ice pilots on TV but I won't enjoy this
@@geezerhull It was a Viscount, not an Electra. The cause was a mandatory repair done wrong which intiated a crack in the main spar and a wing came off. A young girl on Indee Station remembered the crash. Her mother described the severed wing coming down like a falling leaf. The girl grew up frightened of aircraft and only last year in late middle age, flew in an airliner for the first time.
Wonderful AND beautiful plane! Yes, “aesthetics” mean a LOT to me!! Probably one of the nicest planes ever built! BUT the mechanics “nasty language” was terrible at times! No need for that!!! Can’t show this video to family now! Seems like “mechanics’ language” in general is “foul” (not fowl!)! WHY? It must reflect on their parents? I know, “i should talk”!!! Yes, many times I’m ashamed! Anyway, the Lockheed is one very wonderful AND beautiful plane! Makes me want to go out & buy a nice model of one!!! “Ach du lieber, mein schatz”!
Why is this only 4 minutes long? I think we could watch this man go over every little detail of this plane for hours. 👍

Take it easy on the newbs. They are newbs. Chuck is a veteran.
Most of the newbies would run away crying with Chuck's tutelage!
"Watching the GPS in a DC3...I have gone faster on a skidoo!" Favorite line.

He is hillarious! If I had to work with him, I would laugh my ass of all day long!
Chuck is the highlight of Buffalo Air. They should show more Chuck. Love Chuck the most.

Cracked me up. Gotta love true airplane people. Behind that humor is knowledge as serious as a heart attack. Would live to meet this salty dog-!
Great airplane to fly in as a passenger. Smooth and quiet. The cool place to be was the lounge in the back. 👍
Love this guy. Bet u can't work with him and can't work without him lol

Love this guys attitude! I'd love to fly I plane like this, well I live in Britain so there must be some lying around here.
Love those Alison Turbo props. I got some flight time in P-3-C's on Adak with VP 50 and loved it. Great aircraft.
We still use ours for sub hunting. We have upgrade to Arcturus but still have some hanging around.

I saw the fuel trails from hundreds of them in Piedmont colors , as they departed out of Charlotte NC in the 1960's.
Oh, this is hilarious. The jumpseat bit.
lol eh. Awesome video, loving those old planes!
Fuck 'em right up, eh? LOL
Thanks for this!! Got to love Chuck and also the whole Buffalo family :D
Sounds to me like a typical Flight Engineer such as I was in the USN for 23 years.
Great job Chuck!!!
A wealth of knowledge, Chuck!
You always need a smart ass to keep you on your toes! It saves lives and makes you want to know more! A treasure!
The star of Ice Pilots NWT was a mechanic named Chuck.
Learned a lot in a couple of minutes. Thanks Chuck!
This guy is awesome, had me rollin' the whole time with a good laugh.
Another Kelly Johnson Masterpiece!
i am sure this the Lockheed L 188 Electra that used to land at Liverpool Airport uk and was owned by Altantic Airlines in the mid 2000s
Anthony Mcdonnell Yes.

My first commercial flight was on one of these, a long long time ago. I was quite young. I thought at the time it went up like a rocket.

Chucky is the best!

Yes, the ‘chapel’ doesn’t want you anyway. Amen⛪️
Search Airspray airtankers that’s my dads job
Dude, you can't be shuting off the engines in filght just to f**k with the crew, can you?
If you're chuck you can haha
I still think the Vickers Viscount was a much better all round aircraft
I was within two days of dying in the one which lost a wing here in Western Australia south of Port Hedland.
@@DARANGULAFILM sounds like it was before they got the "whirlmode" problem sorted out.

Well the Viscount came first and at the right time. The Electra was better but too late.
Bitchen L 188 4000 shp
