    Hahaha, 5 yrs ago, you do look younger for sure but still a great teacher.
    I'm 68 been playing with a cheap 40lb take down bow for a while.
    Now a cheap but good 300 buck compound 40-70 lb.
    Had to lower poundage as i couldn't pull it back.
    Struggling with lining pins up through peep sight wearing glasses.
    Didn't think of that !!
    Have bow partially tuned so far , at least arrows in red around bullseye.
    Concentrating on building up weak muscles, becoming familiar with holding the bow etc before accuracy.
    Will take a few months.
    I've seen several of your vids and revert back to refresh.
    Appreciate your skill and sharing.

    Well done! Good instruction and your delivery is clear and concise. The fact that you can deliver a video without excessively falling back on lazy verbal habits like, "ummm", "you know" and forced laughter at your own jokes puts you well above hundreds of other RUclipsrs. Keep up the good work.

    Great Video Average Jack Archery! I just got an old Composite Bow, a Pearson 'rogue' to be exact. I'm learning how to used this as this Bow is really old but looks good. Your videos are very helpful!

    Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older.But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.

    very well explained, i'm very new to archery. I have shot in the past but recently decided to get back into it as a new sport/hobby. is there any way you would be able to post a video a little more in detail of how and when to adjust the sites? I have a compound with a three pin sight.

    How did you like that Hoyt..? I have a medium priced bow now and really am going to upgrade soon to a high end one. But am thinking of Hoyt, but have heard good things and not so good things as well.

    • @averagejackarchery
      @averagejackarchery  4 года назад +1

      Hoyt makes good stuff! Only you know what is best for you though. So definitely shoot the Hoyts as well as others to find what suits you best!

    This might sound stupid but I'm new to archery and I've got my 20 yard pin zeroed now I want to start moving back but wasn't sure if I start where sight pins came from manufacturer should they be adjusted first for 30 threw 50

    • @averagejackarchery
      @averagejackarchery  4 года назад +1

      Excellent question. A good gauge is to step back to 30 but aim your 20 pin at where you want to hit. Shoot and the arrow will hit low obviously. Now, draw the bow again, put your 20 pin back on the spot, and see where the arrow is below the 20 pin. Let down, move the 30 pin, and draw again. You want to cover the arrow with the 30 pin, or very close to it. Now you can shoot the 30 pin as you'll be much closer to where it should hit, and fine tune the pin from there.

    I see alot of tuning method like paper,walkback,broadhead... Should i just pick one and good to go. or i have to get though them all? Because consistanly adjusting the rest is kinda pointless to me

    So this might sound like a silly thing to ask cbut I am new to bows so say I’m at 40 yards and I’m shooting left or right how would I adjust for that

    • @averagejackarchery
      @averagejackarchery  5 лет назад +1

      You want to move your sight left and right. Rule of thumb: chase the arrow. If your groups are right, move the sight to the right. Vice versa for left hitting groups.

    • @tylergamel9262

      I thought that’s what I should do. Honestly your like the first person to give me a straight answer which I like. I’ll definitely continue to watch your videos!

    How many arrow do you think give you a good indicator?

    • @averagejackarchery
      @averagejackarchery  6 лет назад

      Justin Verrall I try 3 for paper tuning, just like when I shoot for groups.

      Thank you for the reply I'm incredibly new to this so it's kind of hard for me to know what to do. I think the fact that I have a really old compound bow doesn't help but it's let me get into this awesome sport so it'll do :D
      Sorry to ask so many questions but what do you think is a good number of arrows to practice with? I was thinking somewhere between 3 to 6 but I'm not sure.

  • @rickyrice4704
    @rickyrice4704 4 года назад

    So I have a 3 pin sight. So the first pin should be set at 20 yards? What about a 10 yard pin? So if u set your first pin at 20 yards, then that 20 yard pin will have you covered through 0-20 yards? Is what I'm asking

    • @averagejackarchery
      @averagejackarchery  4 года назад

      Some folks like a 10 yard pin, however, I've found it to be pretty useless with today's compounds. Bows are much faster and arrows fly much flatter than years past. Better to have a 20 yard pin and practice with it at 10 yard and see how high it hits. My guess is for a Bowhunter shot the POI difference will be nominal.

    • @rickyrice4704
      @rickyrice4704 4 года назад

      @@averagejackarchery someone told me that u actually wanna use your 30 or 40 yard pin for shots within 10 yards bcs the arrow is still on it's way up at that distance so u would want to aim a little high. Idk I'll just have to shoot my bow and see. Waiting on getting into a shop and getting my new bow built and tuned

    I have a bear Cruzer X. It's shooting around 250 fps. I have a 3 pin sight. Would you recommend setting my pins at 20 30 40 yards or 10 20 30 yards. I am looking to make ethical kills on whitetails. thank you for your time and knowledge. God bless.

    • @ericb6390
      @ericb6390 5 лет назад

      20,30,40, then just remember where you hit for 10yds , then can make best shot on the harder longer shots,and the easier low yardage shots will be close enough anyways and you will know where 10yds is compared to 20 yd pin

      They didnt, they just shot instinctively. Traditional stick bows dont require as much maintenance and tuning as a compound.
