- Went out to Wisconsin for a family fishing trip in the Summer and had an incredible fishing for Northern Pike. Biggest one was 42 inches long, second biggest was 40 inches long, and plenty more action followed all using the Mepps Agalia on the Kayak Perception Pescador 100. I tried my best to take care of the pike, however, the 42 inch northern had difficulty swimming away, this was a massive learning exprience for me and will know how to handle bigger fish like this in the future in my Kayak. Super grateful for an amazing Northern Pike fishing session in Wisconsin.

Yes, that 42inch pike and probably the other large pike did not make it either. At least three things you don't want to do, first don't use an open face reel, you put them under too much stress, because you are fighting them for too long! Use a bait caster reel. Second you laid them down on hot and or dry plastic bottom of your kayak, you will shock them, it removes their protective slime that keeps them protected from different elements in the water. Third if they hit their head at all on your kayak floor or sides that alone could kill them. Lastly you had them out of the water too long. Try reading up on the proper care of any fish that you go out to catch. There are tons of You Tube videos out there that show you the Right way to handle fish.

Caught all my pike with size 3 and 4. I've never tried size 5 though I have a couple of them.
I just used a #5 this Memorial Day weekend. I hammered the pike. My first time using them, too.
