I have to say, what a breath of fresh air to see someone properly and respectfully land and release a trout. Absolute minimal time out of water, no hands, and the correct net material. Thank you sir, for leading by example
When I was younger, I used a lot of Rooster Tail spinners. Then I found Mepps, and started having better luck. Best performer of all for me though has been Panther Martin. Then again, I am fishing a local lake for stockies, so I don't have a current to help with the lure action. In still water, you are dependent on retrieve rate to make the lure spin, and I have found that Mepps and Rooster Tail spinners have to be retrieved faster to get the desired spin/action. This often leads to trout just following my lure to the bank without striking. The slower retrieve rate attainable with Panther Martin spinners is often just the edge that will make a trout hit. I agree that in the right water, they are all good performers.
I love both but Mepps is my first choice…. Either way. Solid lures. Tried and true.. I have caught a ton of fish on the Silver Mepps #2 Aglia. It was always my go to lure.
I dont mean to be so offtopic but does someone know a method to log back into an instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the password. I love any tricks you can offer me!
@Kason Trevor i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im trying it out now. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
I've always loved mepps, I've caught many big browns on size 3 gold blade, tho I have started to make my own spinners and they work very well, caught close 200 this year just on my spinners, brooks, browns, rainbows, and even a few palominos up here in PA. Great content, keep up the good work👍
Hey, bud. I’m also in PA, and just getting into trout fishing. Any tips for a beginner? Do I have to go and get myself an ultralight rod and 1,000-size reel, or am I okay with a medium/medium-light and 2,000-size reel, using the appropriately light line, of course?
The Panther Martin spinners seem to better induce strikes on the fall. They also create a bit stronger vibration and the blade gets fouled less with fewer parts. I rebuild the PM's using heavier stainless wire and solid brass bearing bead rather than the hollow beads used by the manufacturer. I also down size the treble hooks and pinch the barbs down for cleaner release of the trout. I find that adding red treble hooks to my re-builds on PM's is very productive.
On the contrary, I believe the Palomar knot is a great knot for use on monofilament lines and most all lures except the very largest ones. I usually use a very small snap-swivel and tie them on with a Palomar. I dislike the Improved clinch and only use the standard Clinch knot for small flies. The Panther Martin is my very favorite spinner for trout and the one I use most for spinning tackle. I do have a big box full of Mepps as well and use them too. I have to use single hook lures for trout where I fish. Fortunately, both brands make a single hook line of their lures
Remember it was rumors about Mepps was going to stop producing Mepps Aglia, then I bought 1000 Mepps Aglia Gold Red Dot size 2. Best ever, only thing I use.
Mepps, slightly smaller blade in "hot orange" colour is an absolute killer for mullet in brackish water, sea trout and wild Brownies go mental for them too.! Another enjoyable watch as usual. 👍🎣🏴
I have been fishing creeks, rivers, lakes, ponds for ....oh ...say...about 48 years now and as far as spinners for trout, IN MY EXPERIENCES ONLY, I have had the best luck with Joe's Flies with the brown and red hair, and tied for 2nd between Panther Martins and Rooster tail. The yellow and red haired Panthers and the black Rooster Tails. Then Mepp's would be 4th. And I seem to do better with silver spinner/leaf than gold but could just be in my mind and to give Mepp's a fair shake I had so much luck with the other 3 that I haven't fished with Mepp's as much. Good video and thank you.
Love the black and yellow panther martin with the bronze Or gold spinner. Have had great success with that lure as well as rooster tails in Pennsylvania stream.
I have literally been using Mepps for 58 years, never been disappointed with the quality or it's ability to attract fish. Not bad mouthing anyone else's product, but for me, nothing beats a Mepps.
Panther Martins have always been my go to. I have probably caught more fish with them than any other single lure. My favorite is a black body and a chartreuse blade. Not sure they make those anymore, but they are fire.
They are outstanding! I considered making this video with the latest from both brands but decided to go with the old school ones first. Thanks for watching!
I like the inline spinners like Panther Martin the best. The spinner seems to spin easily. I like to throw upstream and bring the spinner downstream while barely spinning. I can get down into the deeper holes that way. I like the metal body spinners with the tuft of red felt at the hook.
Yea sliver and gold I found them to work the best like I was using a sliver number 0 spinner and I bagged out in 10 mins with brook trout and there were all 15in long
Never fished a mepps but I’ve had a ton of success with a panther. Keep up the good work brother! I’m a little jealous as most of my spots are froze over until spring.
Hey I’m not sure what u like to fish for but if u r thinking about using a mepps spinner for trout use a AGLIA LONG silver spinner and it depends on what type of trout u r going after for the size. I was using a aglia long sliver spinner for brook trout and I got my limit 10 mins in to my fishing trip and the Brook trout were all 15in long
Both great spinners......I catch everything on the Mepps! I like the hooks better on the mepps than the Panther Martins I feel you land more fish......great video 👍 🐟
I like the panthers when I'm fishing deeper water. They get down deep quicker and it's easier to keep them in the strike zone. If I'm fishing faster or more shallow water, I prefer rooster tails, IMO they're unmatched in heavier current when comparing to other online spinner. Mepps is kinda the in-between do it all inline spinner. They sink a bit faster than roostertails and still functional in more shallow faster currents.
You earned yourself another subscriber! I like how informative your videos are! Plus I learned the difference between Panthers & Mepps and why each has their niche. Although I think you should try the Ozark Trails brand inline spinners for trout along with the Ready 2 Fish brand also!
Great videos. I'm heading to Blue Springs next month. What would you recommend starting off with or your favorite go to bait for Blue Springs. Look forward to watching your future videos. Thanks
Everything on the channel works but the no.1 is the gulp pinched crawler on a trout magnet rig. Spinners are also hot this time of year aswell as trout magnets & trout worms. Good luck!
The one he has in this video is excellent. Silver blade with a yellow body and red dots is the best spinning lure I've ever used. Possibly the best thing I've ever used besides worms, honestly. Be careful though, the hooks on those things are horrible
Yes, unfortunately all spinners will create some line twist. It can be a mess from time to time. I recommend a barrel or snap swivel especially when making long casts.
Mepps size 3 with a ladybug pattern. Sadly they don't sell those patterns anymore in my area :(. I've had atleast 300 pikes in 6 years with the one spinner.
I just re-started fishing again after a 30 year lay off and these two spinners were my go to baits in the day! I have been trying to learn more modern tricks but they all seen to be based on catching stockers. Were there that many more wild fish30 yrs ago?
Never tried Panther, but used varying Mepps my concern is the use of treble hooks, which are not permitted in Alberta and BC, which is where I fish. I changed my hooks to singles, but if course there is no feathers/fur now. The flashers work, but are they are as attractive to fish than before , jm not so sure Please, please, encourage barbless single hook fishing ( far less snagged fish, nets, and fingers). Thanks
Gold Panther Martin spinner... But 99% of the time I’m throwing a mini jig. Have been for over 25 years. Wild back country fish and stockers just can’t stay off it if fished properly. Goldens and browns love em. I have brought thousands of Eastern Sierra trout above 3lbs, including a handful around 10lbs to hand with the mini jig. Pearl white is the best.
Some real nice size fish in the creek! Where is the general location? Rooster tails get bent really easy for me.
What do you prefer for lures when fishing trout in lakes? I usually fish with worms.
BOTH Classics and still catching fish to this day in 2021! Tight lines!
100%
I love both but Mepps is my first choice…. Either way. Solid lures. Tried and true.. I have caught a ton of fish on the Silver Mepps #2 Aglia. It was always my go to lure.
Great spinners! Love the Panther Martin though. Especially the black and yellow with the gold blade. Awesome comparison. Tight line's everyone!👍🎣

@@ammonpeart1587 Appreciate the advice, boss.
In Ireland the mepps comet with blue spots is my favourite for trout in rivers and streams
My favorite way to trout fish. Love spinner fishing. I'm impressed you got them to hit that fast with the colder temps. Good job man.
I find the colder the better in my area. They are a cold water fish after all I guess. Thanks for watching!
That is true for sure. 👍

I've always been a mepps guy but they're both great lures
Love using both of these spinners. My favorite lures when not fishing top-water.

The PM is one of my favorites. I also have some pretty good luck with the super dupers.
On the contrary, I believe the Palomar knot is a great knot for use on monofilament lines and most all lures except the very largest ones. Another great inspirational video. I like the Panther as well . You're catching some really nice size bows , you might need a bigger net soon .
Heck yeah agreed!
Great video! Panther Martins, gold blade with red/yellow bodies kill em in California. I love to see them at work elsewhere.
Coast to coast!
Great video, was nice talking to you up there that day!! Your a heck of a fisherman buddy!
Thanks man! Nice meeting you too!
The gold spoon panther Martin is my absolute favorite!! I grew up on it. Even now living in Texas I still use it !! Love your videos!!

Awesome video! I worked in a tackleshop for many years. The two best Spinners availible in europe are Mepps Agilia and Veltic Rublex, period.
Heck yeah that's awesome!
I have literally been using Mepps for 58 years, never been disappointed with the quality or it's ability to attract fish. Not bad mouthing anyone else's product, but for me, nothing beats a Mepps.
Thank you for the videos NRV Outdoors. I find them very educational and helpful when trying to learn more about catching trout
Heck yeah!
Big Mepps fan, will have to venture out into the Martin it appears.
Yea The Mepps Algia #2 And the #3 Are one of my favorite baits. exspeccally if I can find Black tail.
Still learning with the spinners. Like you, I enjoy the drifting, but these spinners look fun too. Thanks for the lesson!
Thanks for watching

Got a few mepps with flys attached , can’t wait to try them. Another good video brother !
They are outstanding! I considered making this video with the latest from both brands but decided to go with the old school ones first. Thanks for watching!
how come youtubers get many fish in one trip and the only tight lines I got is getting stuck at the bottom...
Nice man. I love the orange and gold panther Martin spinner.
Heck yeah
Thank you for replying to my comments and that's really nice
Great video! Thanks for explaining the functional differences btwn the two
Another good video. Joes flies are my #1 and panther martin is next in line. So much fun.

I like the inline spinners like Panther Martin the best. The spinner seems to spin easily. I like to throw upstream and bring the spinner downstream while barely spinning. I can get down into the deeper holes that way. I like the metal body spinners with the tuft of red felt at the hook.

O yea an another bonus is mepps is hand painted if u get one but if they have a squirrel tail on it might be one I shot
Good flicks. I'm a panther & joes kinda guy I've caught a lot of trout with those !
Can't go wrong with either!
Enjoy the tips. Wish our trout were all that size. But most of ours are wild and just struggle to get there.
I’ve never really used either very much. I have always been a Joes Fly guy since I was a kid. Can’t wait to go pick some up and give it a try’

Mepps and panther martins are what I've found out to be the 2 best here in southwest Virginia

Love both of them. They both work really well!!
Heck yeah!
Great comparison video. Mepps will always dominate One question, how many times must you says guys.
I like the mepps spinners slot but I still prefer the rooster tails. Too much nostalgia!
Brilliant video. What size Mepps did you use? Looks like a size 2.
Snap swivel will help with line twisting when using a spinner
Love both of these baits for trout fishing.
Agreed!
Would like a shot at the spinners. You're spot on with your review
Thanks
Love those lures !
I use both of them and they both work well, but which one I use depend on the water I fish in.
Both great spinners......I catch everything on the Mepps! I like the hooks better on the mepps than the Panther Martins I feel you land more fish......great video 👍 🐟
Looking into making my own but not sure where to start cause have very little money or experience

Do you have more success with the black and yellow or the yellow and red panther Martin’s?
Love both of these lures.

Love the comparisons. Thanks!

Yes, unfortunately all spinners will create some line twist. It can be a mess from time to time. I recommend a barrel or snap swivel especially when making long casts.
Probably haven't gotten either out of my spinner box since I found Joe's Flies. Now I will have to

Mepps size 3 with a ladybug pattern. Sadly they don't sell those patterns anymore in my area :(. I've had atleast 300 pikes in 6 years with the one spinner.

I noticed that you attach the spinner directly to the leader. You dont have line twist issues?
Line twist definitely happens especially with the Panther due to its lack of cleaves but overall it's rather manageable. Thanks for watching!

Yes if memory serves. Just keep at it and remember to change it up a bit every once in a while. Thanks for watching!
