My hometown is in a remote countryside in Hube Province in China.
I used to take care of silkworm when I was in primary school。
In summer vacations or on weekends, I was woke up by my parent to pick mulberry leaves for silkworm.
When the cocoon formed, we collected them to sell.
Silkworm did much to help us off poverty.
Thanks for the sacrifice of silkworm.
I want to cry when watching this video.

Just a suggestion. You may be able to learn Mandarin faster with the Google translate app. You can even form sentences with the app. Although the translation may not be 100% accurate, it is good enough to hold a conversation with the Chinese in China.

We do appreciate the work of silkworm. There're so many poetries and mottoes contributing to their hardworking and dedication spirit.
Although I don't think silkworms know that. They're more like "another wonderful day, getting well-fed, and I'll become a beautiful moth after a great beauty sleep. What a life" and then... oops

    • @BlondieinChina

I find a lot but not all of them are very famous. Here's one I personally feel "not bad". You can search "诗 蚕" on Google or Baidu, there'll be a lot for you to discover.
      宋 戴表元《咏蚕》
      物亦有仁者,蚕功不可量。
      将身甘鼎镬,与世作衣裳。
      过栈苍云湿,登山白雪香。
      未知龙种似,犹与马群妨。
But there's one piece that so famous that almost every Chinese knows, though the entire poem was not all about silkworms:
      春蚕到死丝方尽,蜡炬成灰泪始干。
      by 李商隐

Silkworms feel soft and cool, they eat mulberry leaves, with the sound of gentle swish, diffusing a kind of strange scent, which makes people at ease. I don't like worms but silkworms are just cute.

It's a coincidence that I was in Suzhou on a business trip last week and stayed at a hotel near the bridge where you were standing at the beginning of the video. Suzhou is really the representative of the typical cities in the south of the Yangtze River in China.

In fact raising silk worm is very interesting. If you have some of them, you can hear the rustling when they chew leaves. And you can see the leaves diaspearing little by little. It is amazing.

yeah!!! I spent ages just watching them. When you enter the room they're in, you can definitely hear little rustling!

Finally you came to my hometown. Hope you've tried the famous tea 碧螺春. It's also the time for mooncake so why not try the speciality of Suzhou-meat mooncake. Personally I won't go back to Suzhou until winter because the lamb soup in winter is the soul of Suzhou.
