I reenact colonial Spanish and Napoleonic era British Royal Artillery, and was just at the Battle of New Orleans reenactment, where I fell in with a group of Laffite's men, the pirates of Barataria Bay. They were a great bunch of guys, very dedicated and knowledgeable buccaneers, and I would love to see a video on the Baratarians in particular, or gulf coast piracy in general
Would love if you made a video about the “Pirate Round of Africa and India. Including the ones who sailed it like Roberts, Every, and it’s founder Thomas Tew. Hope you keep up the good work!🏴☠️
I can't remember the name of the hotel, but if you look around the edge, it's got a little bit of a stone wall around some of the edge of the property. That wall is what's left of the fort Hornigold occupied in Black Sails. Other than that, there ain't much left at all that I know of
I’ve been watching your channel for a while and one thing I’ve never understood is how small you are. You make well put together videos, and you’d think there’s a ton of people out there interested in pirates. Just never made sense to me
He's focused mostly on the facts when many people might prefer the myths and he has a very thick accent that I often have trouble understanding. Even so, he's my favorite channel covering this topic.
I grew up in the lesser Antilles and thought I knew a lot of the lore. I'm glad that there's more to learn than the tales I was told as a kid on various islands. Most islands have a local.. usually hero.. and tales about encounters, but I never learned any of the backstory.
I have visited Nassau 11 times. The last 5 times as a garbed as the River Pirate 13! To me it is Hallowed ground for the Golden Age of High Seas Piracy. We had a couple of our Krewe of the 13 members inducted in the courtyard where Fort Nassau once stood. Major pirate street cred! Both were lady pirates! The surprising part I find is the local Bahamians are never taught the rich history of the Pirate era. They know a little about Woodes Rodgers but mostly the more recent history of the establishment of the country. The only historical Pirate any of them knew about was Blackbeard. None of them knew who Hornigold was or Calico Jack. They did know who Jack Sparrow was! lol! Enjoyed this video mate!
Research question: who were some of Hornigold's closest major partners/lieutenants besides Bellamy? The only other ones I've heard of are Josiah Burgess and John Cockram, and Idk what they did (I think one of them was a major smuggling kingpin?).
I believe that the game assassin’s creed black flag loosely, follows the story of Benjamin, though it should be noted that Edward Kenway was not the one to kill him.
On account of their norsemen heritage, do you think there were any Swedes or other Scandinavians that hoisted the black flag during the golden age? Edit: forgot you had a channel dedicated to Nordic countries on the Baltic, I’m just going to watch all of those videos now to make recompense.
Sweden had very strict laws so it was hard for Swedes to emigrate. There were a lot more Danes active in the Caribbean. Richard Taylor, a pirate active in the 1720s, allegedly had some Swedes in his crew. Most notable named Swedish pirate was Peter Hoff, a navigator press ganged by Samuel Bellamy and later hanged
You forgot to mention that without him the most famous manga and anime in the world would probably never have been created. He and his story are the inspiration for Gol D. Roger.

Hornigold is one of if not my favorite pirate to hear about, glad we got a video on him.

Great video very entertaining
Amazing video once again! Cheers from Jamaica
Gosh these videos are so good, I wasn't even a pirate buff but I can't stop watching them.
A very good video, a nice look into Hornigold, the pirate with the most piratical name of them all! 🏴☠
Would love if you made a video about the “Pirate Round of Africa and India. Including the ones who sailed it like Roberts, Every, and it’s founder Thomas Tew. Hope you keep up the good work!🏴☠️
My intention is to produce and publish that video this year. Roberts didn't sail the round however
I love this channel. You make great content and should have more subs.
I'm quite proud of fact that Mr Hornigold is in my ancestry
you should be James
Cool. Captain Blood was my grandpa
"Commonwealth" is certainly more accurate than "Republic."
Is there anything left in Nassau from that era that's worth visiting? Ruins? Museums? Historical Sites?
There's a museum yeah

Love coming here, always learn something new about the golden age of piracy! Which pirate/Caribbean centric game is your favorite?
i dont play any of them
Another fantastic video, thank you
Cheers, contact me on Discord or via email if you want to do a collab

It's been a while since you've done anything on a specific pirate so I'm eager to see the video at 4.
Edit: I was 4 hours, 25 minutes late.

I look forward to your video on Samuel Bellamy aka Black Sam. I saw a comment saying you were doing one this year is that correct?
I'm never going to promise or guarantee anything

He's my 8th great granuncle, always rumours in the family he was a relative, found him following my family tree
"ben... a pirate should have a better last name than dover..."
"What about Hornyforgold?"
"*Sigh* just do Hornygold"
sometimes your parents really just pull a dirty on you
Yarrr I be here for the algorithm. For this be a fair hoard of knowledge.
It is said that Horigolds descendents own a peninsula of Iceland called hornstrdir

I am related to him what a amazing pirate

👍🏻😁great vid great channel!
Interesting, very interesting🤔
I feel like the main thesis of this channel is that piracy was always more something ppl engaged in rather than identified with.
The 1st pirate Republic anyway. People hardly seem to realize that America itself is a pirate republic.
Nassau looks nice i wonder if there is loads of fanny
Is it me or were most of these guys was puritans? ironic(hornigold, Rogers, Roberts) lol
yeah, puritanism was very common amongst pirates, I'll discuss this a bit in the first video coming next year
@@GoldandGunpowder It will be an interesting topic
He did not, unfortunately, wind up in horny jail
