I have seen so many documentaries about these explorers that praise them and make them look so good. But these explorers were violent men. They stole, raped and murdered their way into history without that part really making it into the books of history.

They would never tell the story about themselves in an unflattering light. They took what they wanted and the folks who were exterminated never had a chance to tell their side. The story of the white man leaves one with hands utterly drenched in blood

I’ve seen this one a few times and for the most part a good amount of it is accurate but so much has changed in findings through archeological tea search and investigating. After excavating many mound sites and Mississippian sites archeologists have found golden, silver, copper, and even jade jewelry artifacts like ear spools, beads, necklaces, bracelets and other trinquits that predate European contact in the Americas. Meaning that the gold the natives had never came from Spanish ship wrecks and were attained through native trade and even local mining in some areas. The gold the natives were wearing in Florida upon Spanish contact from hernando desoto was not made from Spanish shipwrecks and most likely came from the Georgia and South Carolina aplachian mountains where gold was later found and mined in the 1800s . It’s also possible the gold the natives of Florida were wearing came from oceanic grade before Spanish colonization about 50 years prior with tribes like the arrawak and the Taino. Also worth noting is that mayan / meso American and Mississippian trade has been proven since this video was made. I understand that this video is a bit outdated though

John Rhys Davies is a Shakespearean actor, and he has nowt to do with archeology save for his role in "Raider$ of The Lo$t Ark"... As a high-actor, and also as he is a Welsh person, I would expect him to have a bit more respect for correct pronunciation...
Of course, to Welsh people, certain words in my accent would sound "queer" to them as well... Not "gay", but just weird and unnecessarily (and seemingly intentionally) mispronounced... But, HE knows damn well that "Conquistador" is not pronounced that way, but he does it anyway, just to be rude and superior to Iberians.

    • @FriedPi-mc5yt

The Spanish were far more brutal to the Native populations than the British were. But look at every country Spain colonized and you see corruption, despotism, suffering and misery of large numbers of people. Most of the countries that were British colonies did pretty well and are mostly modern 1st world nations.
